- I unboxed my Kickstarter Origami Paddler (A fold up, sit on kayak / stand up paddle board.) and took it out on the lake for some testing. I've been told that the "Pelican T handle" is a perfect fit to replace one paddle end if you want a true "T" handle for stand up paddle board usage. Amazon Affiliate Link: amzn.to/3p0jUhx
Just FYI these are very heavy kayaks. Probably don't want to use if transporting over 100ft with a shoulder strap( I got bruises on my shoulder from carrying these). Most woman cannot even carries these because the weight. And the seat support is quite bad in my opinion. The only good thing is that these would fit in your car, and it takes a few minutes to setup. For comparison, I have the Oru lake. That is a third of the Origami weight, half the size, and takes 5 minutes to set up. Better back support, and more storage area. And tracks better through the water at faster speed. The only downside it's made from thin plastic so it wouldn't last longer than a few years if used regularly. Has to be treated like a baby because of the thin plastic. Cannot launch from any rocky areas.
I also got slight bruising on my shoulder from carrying it.
This was better than the Origami Paddler video which was fraught with poor lighting and omitted key information. I appreciated the tongue-in-cheek comments that just carrying it to your launch point was cardio in itself. The wheels are not optional for me, yet as noted, there was no guidance on how to attach the paddler to the dolly.
Thanks Jay! Very helpful. Love the ducks in the background.
Very comprehensive. Thank you.
getting mine in September! can't wait to try this out. i love my canoe but something different is always nice
Thank you for this very useful video. I can’t wait to get mine in February. I will be patient and gather all the tips I can along the way!
Before you buy one of these check BBB online. Origami paddler has comments turned off for a reason
Well I received mine was a little heavier than my wife could carry , I though it would be made of recyclable material and it is not it is made that it can be recycled but. Not from recyclable material so I think Tahiti is why it took a year to get they could no make it and figure out how to make hinges stay in place they gave up and went to making the paddle from material that they knew how to make . So don’t think you can save the world by buying a recyclable material object .
Thanks - very helpful video.
Frustrated with this company. I have water coming in through the top black plugs (seems like many people have this issue) and then I posted a question about the “new” hinges and if both pieces were the stronger material because the top piece looks like the old material still (and that hinge was cracked) and I was blocked from the Facebook group. Still waiting to hear from them from an email I sent at the beginning of the month.
Thanks for making the video. Some thoughts:
It disturbs me that this thing has drain holes. How would water even get in it 'cept through those same holes? I thought it was supposed to be molded in flotation. The seat seems really flimsy. I'd rather strain the hinges on the kayak, than the 'hinges' on my back, carrying the damn thing. 'Nuf said? So is it worth it to be able to have something I don't have to lug around on the top of my car? Hmm.
I guess they decided it was better to be able to drain water (if one section got a small crack/puncture) than to have no way to get into them. Having it fold down makes it possible to carry by a single person, even if it's not easy. (I have a fully molded kayak that requires I drag one end along the ground, or use a cart, and it sure takes up a lot more space in the garage...)
Is taking to long for my delivery, march will be a year
A year! The website says 15-20 weeks. What is the company telling you?
It also said, that they started to fill in back orders, we have to wait for our turn, there’s a link circulating on Facebook to register your order number and to update your imf
@@MDH4444 what is an IMF?
I meant info as information
I ordered mine in June and still haven't received it. I'm beginning to wonder is it's all a big scam. Please don't order one until they start filling past orders.
Kickstarter took around 2 years, they are slowly coming up to speed.
@@summetj I'll believe it when I see it.
@@andrewriley1053 I'm not going to make any excuses for their (slow) rollout, but if you are on the Origami Paddler Facebook group there are constant reports of people receiving their paddlers (eventually).
@@summetj I hope that's true
I finally got mine today. yea!
How tall are you sir and how much do you weigh? Thank you kindly
6" 180lbs
The most awkward instruction video I have seen in awhile...
Don’t order one from this company, my husband has ordered one 1 yr ago and yet to receive it. There are dozens of people waiting as well, one lady is waiting 2 yrs and they are not responding her messages. They are Scamming people, they’ll even block you on Facebook.
It took more than a year for my Kickstarter reward to arrive.
