Cool to know the wheels we sent are on that beautiful Z400. It would be an awesome day if the 400s got brought back from Suzuki or Honda. Definitely believe they would sell like crazy.
Ive owned both the 400ex & Z400 & the Z400 is still in my garage. It really is a fantastic quad. Its a shorter stroke engine & it makes power like right now. Very fun bike. Nice job restoring that Z400 & rescuing another sport quad
I'm a Honda guy and prefer a 400ex, my buddy had a Z400 and it was kinda unreliable.. Mainly because it had many owners and many mods by garage mechanics.. Every machine seems most reliable in stock form! To each their own! Just get out and ride! ✌️
@@lucascady4992 oh don’t get me wrong I still think the 400ex is fun quad but prefer the zippier engine in the Z400. Yes agree…get out & ride. They are all fun!
If any manufacturer brought back a simple / reliable / low maintenance 400cc sport quad id be alll over it. Id also love if they brought back the banshee
Oh man its time to dig out my Kawasaki KFX 400 i have an 06 that i bought brand new had maybe 6 hours on it then i put an Athena 440 kit full yoshimira stainless exhaust DRZ intake and exhaust cams and dynojet took care of my jetting. Holeshots all around i emptied the tank and ran it till it shut off and put it under a tarp been there 15 years. Yep its coming out!! Beautiful and awesome running build Mike!!!!
@@MichaelSabo i went out and pulled the cover off last night and am picking up some gas and a battery oil n filter after work today moth balls did the job and kept the critters from building homes in the crevaces and airbox. Excited to hear it run again
About 5 years ago I bought a 2004 LTZ400. I took it to this guy Al in central Jersey who got it up and running for me. I purchased new plastics to change the color to match my other quads. All I wanted was a nice running machine to enjoy, not a full restoration to factory fresh, I think it all cost me about $2,800. Thanks Mike for sharing this build.
My favorite quad has always been the 05 and newer honda 400ex. Plenty of power.. and the 05 and newer have reverse. Which is a must for older guys like myself.
My favorite sport quad is the KFX 700. Maybe not a traditional sport quad in the sense but it’s a lazy man’s sport quad. Power feels unlimited, V twin sounds great, it’s roomy and a super solid ride. Just a tight quality feeling machine. I think any sport quad lover should throw a leg over one. You’ll be impressed. Love the CVT trans too. Immediate power on tap anywhere. I’ve owned a mint Banshee, Warrior and other sport quads as well. The KFX 700 is my favorite to take out for any ride.
You did a beautiful job on that quad. Most people would have modified it. But I'm glad that you stuck to your idea of keeping it completely stock. Nice job.
Im a casual rider. Last raced a quad 15yrs ago So Mate bought a Kfx400 and a ltz400 KFX Stock Ltz. Has an exhaust But overall the ltz feels much better to ride. Same day I played on a ltr450. Didn't enjoy it as much on the mx track I come from a TRX450R with kinda stock and just a slip on HMF pipe. I miss my quad from back in the day
Honestly my favorite sport quad ever is the yellow and black 60th anniversary yfz. A quad I'd like to see be made? Probably if Yamaha made their own 400 maybe base it off of the 450x chassis. Anyways great video the Z400 is immaculate.
I was a high intermediate dirtbike racer, but when I switched to quads, I just felt more natural on them and started racing pro almost immediately. Other people feel more natural on a bike. I felt more natural on ATV's. To each their own.
I had a 06 white z400. It was 100% bone stock, had the original tires. I was the second owner of it. Had 10 hours on it the day I bought it from my dad’s friend who had bought it new in 07. Perfect power and handling. Definitely miss it and wish I still had it
Dude, can't believe you did this after we left lol. i would have loved to see this thing in action. Sounds friggin mint! ahh man, bringing me back to 2005. I think I need to find me another one. I would love to see the z400 come back!
I kinda want to see the 90s 250 Mojave back, its like a utility quad but also quite sporty. Sorta like the Lakota. Also, thanks for sharing the parts breakdown. Its very helpful for finding some parts that are no longer available, even if they are chinses.
Loved my 400ex. Just handled great and was fast enough to be super fun. Never had a problem with it ever. Had a White Bros E-series slip-on. Miss that quad!
I always wanted a Z400, that would fit good with my eiger 400. Raptor was always a dream but never thought I'd get one until I got older. Still kinda want a z400.
Honda 400 ex! I feel it's the best air cooled motor ever in an atv. If they ever brought these back I wish they would make the bugeye light version with reverse. I also wouldn't mind a 250r with estart and modern suspension 😎
sounds like u found my fav trail. north side of the park. that trail is fun. I knee what u was talking about soon as u said smooth swoops. I have a sick loop off that trail.
I had a z400 and thought exactly what you think. Great quad, easy to ride, not too much power, and never not enough. Handled great. That being said, I now own a KTM 450 XC that I put a 525 top end on. I will say it is a complete step up from the z400. Better in just about every way. You should do a KTM XC ATV build (skip the SX version)...would be great to watch and then hear your opinion on it.
10 years ago i stressed out guys on 660 Raptors and 525 Outlaws in woodland trails riding my 1986 Honda 200X three wheeler. Cant imagine how i could have done on a quad like this. Side note i did race three wheelers in the 80's semi professionally.
Im gonna be honest i have 4 different fourwheelers(300ex 350 warrior 400ex and polaris predator 500)and each has their own perk so honestly i like them all equally i couldnt pick a favorite but i will say(and before you read on im not a pro rider this is just my experience) the 400ex feels the most plush when hitting bumps , the 300ex handles turns the nicest due to it being a smaller quad, the 350 warrior feels the most comfortable to sit on and the predator 500 is obivously the fastest of the four but i like the amount of leg room i have or the ergonomics of that quad the best, definetly gotta get used to it though hahaha
guck I always miss the badlands trip. I went one year when yall went, but never saw u guys. then after I found out u guys were at the drag stripper all day that day.
Been a long time coming. Glad to see your work paid off. I broke down and took mine to a shop. Now I'm just waiting on them to call me I'm so ready to rip. Will be my first z400!
1987 Honda trx250x or a 1987 Kawasaki kfs250 Mojave I’d love to see you restore and rip one just to watch your videos on either or both machines then do a shootout with them I own a 87 trx250x and love my little quad.
I love watching your videos, I go back and watch previous ones while waiting for new ones to come out, I just rewatched the blaster and now I’m watching the ASPCA raptor 😂
Put a Rev box on the Z400. I used the Procomm brand on both of my Z's. I liked the results from the replacement on the 2003 and 2006 I own. My 2006 I purchased new and installed it after 2 weeks with no problems and its still working! Those engines will handle higher RPMs with no issues. The LTZ400 Rev limit is 9000 and The DR-Z400 SuperMoto rpm limit is 10,000 factory and is basically the same engine other than cams are a bit different besides the reverse difference. Knowing that is why I had tried it out. Ride on everyone!!
Ok so I watch your new videos every time they pop up, I’m looking for specifically a 2003 KX250 to do a homebrew version of what you do with these machines.
