- Princess Peach: Showtime! reviewed by Logan Plant on Nintendo Switch.
Princess Peach: Showtime! is more closely aligned with Kirby and Yoshi’s simple, cheery romps rather than Mario’s polished platformers and Luigi’s haunted mansions. There’s fun to be found in the Sparkle Theater, as these delightfully simplified takes on some of gaming’s most popular genres are entertaining to blast through, and the whimsical stage play aesthetic gives Peach’s game an identity all its own. I’m also thrilled that Nintendo is finally giving Peach another crack at her own solo outing after nearly two decades, and I hope this is the start of an ongoing spinoff series within the wider Mario universe. Some noticeable performance issues and the frustrating lack of a chapter select means I won’t be returning for an encore, and I wish there were a few extra levels to lengthen the somewhat brief campaign, but Nintendo and Princess Peach at least know how to put on a good show.
Kirby’s Forgetten Land got my son into video games. Now my daughter wants this to be her first game. Very excited for it

Seems to me that the only time she ever has a moment of peace is when she doesn't do anything at all. Deep philosophical question there as to what constitutes a holiday for the perpetually unlucky Peach.

Kudos to Nintendo for experimenting and trying something new with Princess Peach in a Mario spin-off. The whole theatre/stage play concept & aesthetic is honestly pretty interesting.
Puppeteer on the PS3 did the stage play aesthetic better than any game I’ve ever seen. An absolute classic!

My takeaway is this is perfect for kids with its simple gameplay.
IGN: "This game isn't difficult."
Speedrunners: "Allow us to introduce ourselves."
Speed running has nothing to do with level difficulty, speed running is a seperate task unto itself where you're focused on time rather than accomplishing tasks other than finishing the level.
@@JohnBloggs-m8l huge parts of this game are timing based. The ninja, ice skating, and kungfu are, as well as every boss fight. In fact, you're mostly punished in this game by having levels take more time.

It's interesting that she's an actress in the theater seeing as her first playable appearance was Super Mario Bros. 2, which itself was a theatrical reproduction of the events from the first game.
Super Mario Bros. 2 was Mario’s dream. Super Mario Bros. 3 is the play.
Gameplay revolving around 2 buttons and being able to take 5 hits makes this targeted at children? Everyone keeps saying it's a 'kids game' when basically every Mario game has done the same thing. It just kind of discredits what was developed, which I'd argue is one of the most original things Nintendo has put out in a decade.

My girlfriend has 0 experience with videogames. She has tried to get into them for me but it's been tough because she's just terrible at them. That said, she played this demo and loved it, it was easy enough for a total amateur to play it. She also loves princess peach so I've thought it's awesome to see how female representation can inspire them.

Nintendo might can sometimes be as bad as Sony and Microsoft but you see games like this and their previous games on the switch with some having fresh ideas you can see why they are in better shape than Sony and Microsoft.

Given the reviewers' complaint about framerate and performance issues, this game could have been meant for a release on switch 2, but it got done before the console, so they downgraded it for the switch 1? I would not be surprised for a switch 2 re-release as a launch title.
Tbh it doesn't look like anything the Switch shouldn't be able to handle. Just seems like lackluster optimization to me
