protection plans are meant to be extended warranties but with Nintendo/SONY/Xbox games they usually will provide replacements under a year anyways; and stores have a 2-4 weeks warranty which is usually enough of a plan. So the protection plan is just redundant, and ultimately victimizes insecure people usually soccer moms and bad joke dads who don't know any better.
My 5 year old asked me to play the peach game, and I downloaded the demo for him. He spun around, jumped around a little, and after a few minutes, he turned the game off, booted up Mario 3d world, and selected Peach to play there. This is my review, thanks everyone.
I don't know, I'm not getting the full version to find out. To me, the fun is getting 100% on all the collectibles, and the fact that the stages do not let me backtrack if I notice I miss something is a capital-C Choice that kills the game for me. To my son, he just found it boring. Maybe it is somebody else's cup of tea, but I'll stick with Kirby as a good kids game for our whole family.
I'm glad this game exists. My daughter doesnt play games, but this one introduced her and trained her in timing, looking for secrets, staying out of LOS of enemies and hitting them from behind, following patterns, button mashing and more This game is like true beginners tutorial for basic game sense, and I can't believe how well it's working even on a kid that's still learning to read properly. I simply don't think it's for "us" As a result of what Showtime has taught her so far, she was finally able to play Ocarina of Time by herself a little bit, she found the kokiri sword and found enough rupees for the shield all on her own. I think that's pretty special and I'm grateful to Showtime for teaching her Edit: We are even going to play some Kirby game tomorrow, though I haven't decided which Edit2: We took turns on crystal shards, it was great
I think you might be overlooking the fact that not all adults are great at games, even if they love playing them. I have trouble with hand tremors so I usually play turn based games, but this sounds like something I could handle.
I have a coworker in her 50s who loves Mario. I was talking to her recently and she said she loved Mario Wonder but couldn't beat it because it got too hard for her. Peach Showtime might be the perfect game for her and others in that demographic tbh.
To be honest, in a lot of games I have issues maneuvering and getting my character to go where I want when I want. So when I played the Demo and found out the game was pretty easy, my thought process was "Oh, this is something I could feasibly finish!" and then I was able to finish it. If you're thinking about getting it, try the Demo first because it gives you a good sense of the controls. And if there are certain levels that are too hard because of your tremors, you can skip past them to get to the next boss or unlock new levels.
@@disneyvillainsfan1666its definitely subjective, so its good to have a whole set of games of varying difficulty for each type of person. thinking about it that way, nintendo definitely did that right. though the conteols of tis game could still be better and more engaging
I am a 26 year old woman and I really love this game. I am actually happy this game was easy as my life is already hard. I only have energy to watch tv most days but I could play this game in the evening while other games really require more of my energy. This is why I play cozy games. I want to feel like I can achieve something without too much challenge. I did not feel like it was aimed at just kids, I think they knew the cozy girl gamers wanted something not too hard. I do enjoy just trying to collect all of the collectables. Also the one hit kill mode is actually challenging.
I feel the exact same way! Life been so difficult lately and even trying to game has been giving me so much anxiety due to the concepts of wasting time by gaming, wasting time but not gaming and my backlog growing among other stupid things. I originally wasn’t going to get this game but played the demo and was so surprised how easy and fun it was. No anxiety at all after not touching my switch for months and months.
Exactly this. Both my 12yo daughter and I have been playing this game, and we've both been enjoying it. My husband, while not interested in playing it himself, has been sitting down to watch us play because of the cute story and visual appeal, as well. Getting to the end of a level isn't the challenge, it's in the collecting. I got my full 10 Sparkles on Ninja-1 earlier today, and I restarted the level repeatedly because I missed a timing during the autorun section. My first time through Cowgirl-1 I restarted during the first lasso section becasue I missed freeing one of the Theets who I knew would have given me a Sparkle otherwise. (Swordfighter levels 1 and 3 are the only ones I've managed to fully complete on my first try, which makes sense since they're basically the tutorials of how the levels will go. Though, I'm playing only a few levels at a time each day right now, and I bought the game two days ago, so I'm still on floor 2. Kiddo will be starting floor 4 after school tomorrow.)
21:34 when my son started playing Mario kart, he cried a lot, and kind of got angry at us for playing something he couldn't. His version of playing game was holding the a button. No steering. Because if he did, it would go awry. And on top of that, it hurt him on a deeply personal level when his character cried after finally passing the finish line. That was maybe 2 years ago, and he's turning seven soon, but there is definitely a place for easy.
My cousin got around that issue when he first introduced me to games by convincing me that the higher your placement value, the better you did 😂. I think it's extra funny because he's only six months older than me.
If this were $40 it looks like it'd be a "cute" spin-off. At $60 it leaves me questioning the fact we've accepted Nintendo games as inherently getting premium valuation.
Its a full priced Nintendo game that is also extremely short compared to other full priced Nintendo titles.. That was a slap in the face for the fans..
This one of my biggest overall concerns here. A similar experience elsewhere would be 20 or 30 bucks, but here it feels like yet another thing where they go "we can get away with charging the full 60 for this because it's got the Mario series branding" and it's just becoming old at this point. I think it's reasonable to want that Nintendo premium to not exist for smaller stuff like this.
half the SWITCH library is not worth their price, especially the sports games but Nintendo fans tend to have some of the lowest standards in the industry
I really think they put a lot of work into Peach's design in this game. Sure, we've seen her and what she looks like in Mario Wonder, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart, and even Smash Bros, but it feels like they went the extra mile to make her GLOW in this game. Picture perfect proportions on the face, just the right amount of vibrant color. It's the best she's ever looked in an official game.
The different shades of pink and white available to buy for her in the shop was SO perfect. She just looks so absolutely fabulous throughout this whole game.
I didn't like the demo that much, but I still got the game. My 7yo niece loves it. She has finished the game twice already, which is something she has never done before, and she's begging her parents to make her a swordfighting Peace costume for this year's Halloween. I guess this game really is aimed at little girls who don't play a lot of video games. Gotta say I used to not be a fan of extremely simple Nintendo games only for kids, but seeing her like this I think I'm changing my mind.
In defense of Super Princess Peach's emotion powers: the premise isn't that Peach has emotional mood swings, the premise is that Peach is the ONLY ONE on the island who can properly control her emotions. It's not saying "lol women so emotional" as a stereotype, it's saying "this woman has more experience regulating and controlling her emotions than any of the other people who could potentially do something."
So basically Sailor Moon? Because... I too would watch that. Personally I would like to see more out of Peach. My White Mage from SMRPG needs more screen time. There was this comic one time where someone got up in arms about Bowser kidnapping Peach because she's a girl and then Bowser comes back with her being a valuable political leader. Like... I wanna see that! Queen Elizabeth when young as with age was a fire cracker and everyone loved her... Why not that but in the Mushroom kingdom?
@@ActuatedGear so are you referring to the mario adventures comic or the fan works Are you unaware her political influence in bowser's inside story Her sheer raw power in partners in time Her tactical James bond esc influence in Paper mario 64?
“My daughter was really looking forward to this!” “Oh mine too! My daughter Rebecca really wanted this for her birthday! Rebecca spills a lot of food on my games, *her* games.” “It‘s for me.” Honestly, this is my favorite bit from Arlo of all time now!
24 year old woman who loved Super Princess Peach on the DS here. I'm not a very good gamer. Most Mario platformers can be too difficult that it makes me upset and I have to put it down. I never got far with Odyssey because I didn't gel with the gameplay. I absolutely loved this game. Sure it's "easy", but I died too many times to admit for it being "easy" 😅 This game was a feel good, easy, almost 100% stress free game with cute costumes and fun little stories featured in the plays and a decently interesting overarching story. It's honestly the first Mario game I've finished since Sunshine 😅 I'm not saying Arlo is wrong in any way, I just wanted to leave my thoughts because we seemed to have really opposite take aways when it came to the difficulty level being good or bad.
Which I will add, it is stinky that the Princess game had to get this treatment. It just turns out personally, I greatly benefit from how easy it is 😂 But I realize I'm not every Princess Peach fan.
I don't wanna be mean but "I'm not a good gamer and I had no problem with the challenge" reads a lot like "I normally hate plot in gaming but I loved RDR2's story." I don't wanna be mean to you, but Rockstar fans are basically just South Park fans so it's fine to bully them.
@@GoblinSquid I don't feel like you're being mean. I just wanted to share another perspective as someone who can't let my heart rate get too high so stressful games aren't fun for me and that maybe not every nintendo game has to cater to everyone. I feel it heavily catered to my life style and game style and I'm so grateful for it. I just wanted to share that because sometimes when I watch people review things... I don't know. Sometimes it feels like the way I enjoy games is frowned upon and can be labeled as a bad game when it's just a different style/pace than what "most" gamers want.
Thank you for the added input. I appreciate how this game is just competent and stylish, and I am glad to hear from more gamers whom don't actually play games specifically for challenge. I do hope it sells well, so we can get more Peach games for a wider audience.
@@adamisme5939 I fully agree, it allows me to feel more comfortable with controls. I always wanted to do well at mario games but im not very skillful with a controller vs keyboard.
arlo, PLEASE do more opening skits like that when the opportunity arises!! it felt like a classic muppet sketch - the humour was so well written and perfectly delivered, i loved it so much!!
i wish there was something similar to kirby where there's optional postgame content that is brutally difficult but lets you replay each mode like you want to. imagine a mind-bending puzzle or a swordfight against daisy. that'd be cool
One could hope for DLC in that vein. I found the EX stages difficult, required a certain rhythm to things. The post-game ninja Theets can die though. Overall, a charming game, worth my money.
The Kirby franchise is very well established at this point and the developers know who their audience is. But Peach is just new territory. Although she deserves to be fully explored.
13:20 I heavily disagree. Most mario games have the same dull "Hit me 3 times and Im done" approach. Especially in the 2D games, Bosses are not even noteworthy. There are some really cool designs in the 3D mario games, but even those are mostly "Figure it out once, do it 3 times". I dont think I would call any boss fight from the mainline mario games legit a "Good boss fight". Paper Mario for example is a different story, but saying that mario bosses are usually so good is an extreme overstatement
I do feel like usual Mario bosses still have a lot more kinetic energy or player involvement than this game's bosses. They're pretty slow paced and "waiting for the right time" compared to bosses like Galaxy or Odyssey
yeah i was surprised when he said that. sometimes the 3d ones are a lot of fun tho like the dragon in Odyssey and the Bowser boxing fight, also Odyssey
Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 have the best bosses in the entire series imo. Idk how you can't consider ANY bosses from those games great. Bouldergeist is one of the best video games boss fights of all time imo, and Galaxy 2 is absolutely stacked with fun, dynamic, and creative bosses that have difficult final phases. Odyssey also has a handful of amazing boss fights too.
@@isaiahromero9861 As I said, some of the 3d mario games have visually well designed bosses, but also bouldergeist is a typical 3 phase boss. Yes it can be challenging, especially with that second fight later on where you only have 1HP, but that still doesnt make "most Mario bosses good". When I talk about good bosses, Im thinking Metroid or Dark Souls.
@@IAmNotASandwich453 Metroid and Dark Souls are entirely different type of genres compared to Mario though. So comparing the three on that aspect feels a bit dismissive That's like saying that the fighting mechanics in Tekken are more refined than the fighting mechanics in Ocarina of Time.
I wanted to offer a counterpoint here. I am an adult woman who sucks at video games. But I like to play video games. I think there should be games for people like me. I have seen many adult women who have really enjoyed this game because of its ease. People who normally play other genres have had a fun time with this game. I have not bought the game because I can’t spend the money on it rn, but I really enjoyed the demo and even struggled with parts of it. It kinda hurts my feelings that so many adults dismiss games as being “too easy for adults” when there are adults who enjoy games of all difficulty levels. I think people who suck at video games but love to play them should have more options. I hear this critique about 2D Mario and Pokemon a lot and those are some of my favorite franchises because I can pick them up and play when I can’t play other games cuz they’re too hard. Sure, maybe you could beat Zelda games at 8 years old, but some of us can’t do that as adults without frustration and I just think there should be more options. Hope you guys can appreciate my perspective. Not everyone games like you do. ❤
I really think that gamers tend to forget that! Harder games require a lot of practice and consistent play in order to be good at them, and a lot of people may enjoy video games but just not feel interested in practising the game like they're learning to play a musical instrument or something. I have literally one platformer I can do anything impressive in; I can (very slowly) do the 16 star run of Super Mario 64, which I was dedicated enough to try out because that was my first video game ever as a child so the idea of beating it so quickly when I never could as a child at all was intriguing. But the moment I step off that route I still suck at the rest of the game! I get the impression that Arlo kind of thinks that a game for girls being easy is demeaning to girls, and he doesn't really understand that girls genuinely don't play video games as much- most of them are so masculine that they're very off-putting to female players. And girls may also just prioritise other hobbies, when a game is very challenging and requires many re-tries at a level in order to succeed. Sure, I could spend 3 hours trying to progress in Zelda, or...I could read a manga, or watch an anime, or pick up a paintbrush. When I hit that frustration point in a game, I don't view it as a challenge to overcome; I get tired of fighting the game and move on to do something else more productive or relaxing.
This. I'm really tired of gamers online thinking a game being easy is a bad thing. It might be boring for them, but not everyone is equally skilled at videogames. You shouldn't have to "git gud" to be able to play games. I've seen a concerning amount of gamers be vehemently against accessibility and being aggressively gatekeepy and it sucks (not saying Arlo is like that, I'm just talking in general). Even as someone who is okay at games, sometimes I want to play games to relax. I don't want all games to challenge me or push me beyond my limit.
@@sophitiaofhyrule yeah, I definitely think arlo IS coming from a place of good faith, but I do think more experienced and skilled gamers tend to forget that there are different kinds of gamers out there. One TH-camr I watch even made a shirt that was like “easy mode: cuz I like to have FUN when I play games” or something similar. It would be awesome if every single video game had like 17 difficulty levels so everyone could enjoy it their way, but that’s just not feasible. We need easy games. Especially on Nintendo consoles that have such reach to more casual gamers! The “cozy game” trend just kinda proves this to me. Sometimes something just isn’t for you and that’s ok. Sometimes people experience games differently than you due to things you’d never imagine! Like I really hate open world or 3D environment games because I have no sense of direction or space. I have low coordination so I can’t play platformers as well as other gamers do. But dang do I love me a good 2D Mario! I should be able to 100% games that I enjoy because that’s fun for me even if I’m lower skill level.
One thing in defense of Super Princess Peach! The mood swings weren't unique to her! It was because of Vibe Island, if I recall correctly. It happened to lots of the enemies too.
@@BJGvideosNot only control them, but flipping them on and off "at will". Most people don`t seem to get, that mood swings are uncontrollable. She literally can tune her emotions on and off like the Phantom from AA: Dual Destinies does.
@@aureliodeprimus8018Doesn't change the fact that they decided that the one Mario game about a woman should be about her using overwhelming emotions & crying like an infant. Nor does it change how weird the text about women & the vibe scepter is.
@@D_YellowMadnessWhat text about women & the vibe scepter? The one at the very end of the game? Buddy, get your mind out of the gutter, when i played the game on release i didn`t even realise it was weird, because unlike most of you i had other worries than naughty toys, when i was a teen. Also i love the double standard, how every one treats the Hulk as a hero for focusing his anger into something productive, but the moment a women does it, it is a stereotype. Remember what Morgan Freeman said about racism? If you want to end it, stop talking about it. You are, willingly or not, reinforcing the stereotype by not bein gable to shut up about it.
@@aureliodeprimus8018…prejudice wouldn’t go away if people stopped being vocal against it. Not commenting on whether the game does bad here, I’m just calling your comment bad.
If only there was some way to let people choose how difficult they wanted an experience to be. Some adjustment that could me made to _set_ difficulty so that its not too _easy_ or _hard_ for any particular individual. (being serious, I dont know how well difficulty settings would function with the problems that arlo pointed out here, but I do know it would be a huge tool to the devs to let them explore more with the game.)
I think the thing that gets me is how overly simplistic Peach Showtime is. Kirby might be easy, but Kirby has a lot of depth. I don't think Peach needs the depth that Kirby has but it couldn't hurt. I do think that the myriad genres being showcased is a great way to make an identity very much like Mario but in her own way.
I could not for the life of me conceive why in the world they would have called the main baddie "Grape" until you said it next to "Peach." Ah. I feel dumb. Lol
It still doesn't really work. "Peach" is a nickname in the real world - though one you might get slapped for using. Nobody is referred to as "Grape" in any way, ever. "Sour grapes" is an idiom (based on an Aesop's fable!), sure; and they were right to run with that as the villain's theme…but the name should have been better chosen.
I am a little surprised that Nintendo failed to recognize how many adults were interested in this game. Every Mario fan knows Peach. I believe we all wanted to see her grow as a character. I hope we get a sequel that addresses all the shortcomings.
The constant slander about Super Princess Peach makes me sad. Everyone always boils it down to 'WoMeN eMoTiOnAl?!?' when it was a really neat little platformer with fun powers and a good level of difficulty for beginner gamers. My little sister played it back in the day and it singlehandedly got her into gaming. And it wasn't just Peach who was emotional - the whole thing is set in Vibe Island, with every single enemy being teary, or super angry, or whimsically happy. And Peach rescues both Mario Bros! I'm just saying it was a much better game than people seem to want to remember
That's because people are to much up their own asses and have to make everything political/ideological. This way, they can seem like people with good moral values and great insight when they just spew out the most basic consensual takes humanly possible.
First, that opening skit is brutally hilarious. Arlo's delivery and timing are so good. Second, I really like this game. Sure, it's very easy, but sometimes a simple, relaxing game is what you want. Plus, I love the costumes, their powers, and the stage play aesthetic. My only real complaint is the price. $60 is way to much for a game this small scale.
My 6 year old daughter LOOOOVES this game. I enjoy it too, especially in short burtsts, but this game definitely hits the pleasure zones of my daughters brain or something as she keeps wanting to play it for hours and hours and hours beyond when I could very much use a break, so I could see her obsession with it swaying me from liking it a lot, to being kind of sick of it over time. Right now though, I still like it too.
Just like me when I get so in depth and play hours upon hours upon hours of 7 Days To Die & Palworld that's for sure. It's akin to playing a Barbie game, and that's what I'm seeing here.
Yeah beacuse she is a girl and doesnt know any better, why dont you show her real games? Show the the Mario Odysey or Galaxy instead? Why are you alieating her on a childish girlish game? Stop being overly defensive.
A shame you put her on this girly games and treat her like a brainless infant. Your a terrible parent. Is that how you treater her? How you teach her? With mediocre games. That child should be taken away from you.
As someone who is left handed myself (although I’m kind of ambidextrous actually) I found it pretty cool that Swordfighter Peach uses her sword in her left hand! It’s minorest of minor details but it’s nice to get some left handed representation in gaming!
@@TheBeggies95 Link's primary hand swap was kinda necessary though. Nintendo went all in with waggle on the Wii, and since right-handers are a super-majority on the planet, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword both had to have their Link be righties for the game to feel right to players. At least they let us have southpaw Link all the way through the Gamecube's life.
@@budgetcoinhunterThe fun thing is that the Gamecube Version of TP still had a left-handed Link. And as a result the entire world was mirrored to match.^^
I love how Brad is heavily nice about Arlo situation and remembers Arlos daughter "Rebecca" especially the ending when Arlo returns the title because he did not enjoy it as much as he thought. Plus he might as well obtain that Reese since he's there, ha ha.
The "because it's Peach" angle is interesting to consider, especially with that DS game, as the reason for it being a simpler game. It could also be Nintendo's approach to start a new franchise with younger kids in mind, and gradually increase the difficulty in new installments as their target audience grows up and is ready for increased difficulty while playing into nostalgia.
This game gave me the same feeling I got when I played Little Big Planet for the first time. I am 22 and I love challenging games, but I think PPS is a wonderful experience. And it is hard to get all of the stars and 100% it, especially with the rehearsals and boss reruns! I like how people of all ages can enjoy it and I had a lot of fun playing all of the different roles.
I think it’s really hard for gamers to understand how difficult games are for non-gamers. Even little kids who’ve been playing games for a couple of years are a bad gauge for how hard a game is for normies. This game isn’t easy for a non-gamer like me. I’m a huge fan of the last two Zelda games, but those are the only games I play. Princess Peach Showtime’s swordfighter levels are the only ones that I have context for. But for once, the rest of the game is not so hard that I can’t achieve flow. This is, basically, a normie game. I’d be interested to see if Razbuten’s lady has played so many games now that Showtime is too easy for her. I’m really enjoying this so far, even if it’s not trying to be a masterpiece 😅.
I bought it for my non gamer daughter. She likes it, it is a game she can manage. My gamer son has an easy time with it, but still enjoyed it. I liked it myself, because of the innovative level design. So cute!
its really sad though that developers have to make entire games centered around people who have never even touched a game because it limits the potential of what that game could be and the heights it could reach by having to remove all the difficulty for people like you. youre the minority soo
I think people miss a bit the point of Super Princess Peach being themed around emotions. yes, Peach gains her power by "extreme mood swings" for comedic effect and that can be seen as steriotypic on women being emotional creatures. but she inst the hero because of those crazy moods, but because she is the only one in the game that can expertly control her emotions acording to the situation at hand. as ironic as it sounds the whole game its basically a cartoonish lesson on emotional inteligence.
That's always been my opinion of that game. Peach is the only person in the Mushroom Kingdom who ISN'T insane! She's not often in trouble because of incompetence, she's often in trouble because it's a goofy cartoon world and she's really unlucky, but Peach is nowhere near incompetent.
It was great to see Peach having her own game and she looked terrific in those different outfits Stella gave her, but I hated that you once you pass by certain parts of a course, you cannot go back, so if you realize you forgot a gem or ribbon, you have to restart the course from the beginning.
A big thing that gets me about this game is how strangely unforgiving some of its sparkle gems can be. It isn’t an enormous deal because of how short the levels are and how many gems there are, but it can be tedious trying to 100% a stage and having to replay it multiple times
OMG that skit at the beginning was hilarious! Arlo's -puppeteering- acting is soo good! The contrast between the customer's stilted delivery and the cashier's casual demeanour is amazingly well done.
From the perspective of someone who read Super Mario Adventures, played Paper Mario, and Watched The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this game is the next step for Peach in presentation, personality, and charm.
Please don't remind me of the mario movie that was a complete letdown as a long time mario fan It succeeded no barriers mario galaxy surpassed 15 years ago Stripped away any character progress since the nes and snes days And most damning of all it's lip service of respect for the franchise only going back to 2013 references While also providing zero explanation to newcomers to the franchise as a whole
@@donaldduck73 Character progress? HAHAHAHA.... wow. Yep, Mario is a TOTALLY different guy than he was in the NES days. Since he didn't have voice acting then let's compare him from mario 64 to now. In Mario 64, he was a happy italian man that goes "Woohoo!" - and let's look at bowser, a spiky turtle monster that goes "Gwahaha!" and likes kidnapping peach. Compare that to now where mario is a happy italian man that goes "Woohoo!" and bowser is a spiky monster that goes "Gwahaha" and likes kidnapping peach. Oh wait. This is a brainless series for children, do not pretend for a SECOND there is "character progress"
@Vaquix000 on country just look at majority of the rpgs up to around super paper mario and dream team and you'd see how drastically they improved Same could be said for many of early sports games on Wii Comic wise just look super mario adventures Show wise there's the super show trilogy, the live action movie and anime adaption So there's plenty they could have pulled from
@@donaldduck73 I don't think Mario himself has much character from that. Literally everyone else, though... The Mario Movie was fine in my opinion, for context. Not great but not bad either. Best Illumination movie I've seen, but that really says more about Illumination than it does the Mario Movie.
Arlo I really think you should try out Super Princess Peach. It may seem like strange and stereotypical but I assure you it's handled pretty well and a solid platformer that might be better than some of the mainline ones!
I really love that it gives you the option to either purchase more hearts or refuse to, based on how difficult you find platforming. It's such a simple feature which I think more games could benefit from. Personally, I cannot handle games which only give me 2-3 hitpoints; I'm just going to get sick of dying at the same spot I was stuck at and replaying from the last checkpoint over and over, only to die at the same spot again. But I get that a lot of people don't have that issue and enjoy the challenge of having to get through a game with zero or very few hits. Super Princess Peach sort of caters to both sides, imho. And it has an art style really influenced by old games like Yoshi's Island which is just adorable. It's probably my favourite platformer, in part because I can actually beat it!
Biggest issue for me is the fact that there are missable collectibles when stages are this long (some 20 minutes + long!) and a lot of them have unskippable cutscenes, etc... Would have really appreciated a "restart from checkpoint" option since right now the only thing you can do is restart the entire level from the beginning...
It's worth saying that arlo is wrong about super princess peach. Her power isn't uncontrollable mood swings, everyone in the game is suffering from the uncontrollable mood swings and peach is the one with control. Her power is literally being the only one with enough self control to manage it.
thank you. I’m sick of all these cringe TH-camr takes acting all high-and-mighty about SPP. only people who are terminally on Twitter would try to politicize it. Normal people just say, “oh, cool gameplay mechanic!!”
@@Key-Knight87people like you are the reason female characters are often so plain, uninteresting or downright unlikeable. because any kind of emotion or softness is immediately put on it being a sexist stereotype.
Arlo super princess peach is an emotion themed game its not peach specifically. The game has sad goombas, koopa troopas, etc and what makes peach stand out is having complete control. I really resent that an interesting and fun game is just dismissed under wtf women emotion bad or something.
As a feminist, the double standards around this game have always baffled me. Seeing emotions being used as a strength is great. We see characters channel their anger into a power all the time...but adding more emotions to that power is suddenly offensive? Screw that noise.
I played Super Princess Peach as a little girl and didn't even think abt the stereotypes or whatever lol and I enjoyed it tbh. I'm sure I'd love this game if I was still that little girl, but as an adult I cannot justify the price tag yikes
I'm just gonna say, I've NEVER seen a woman (who wasn't a known con artist) complain about Super Princess Peach. Seeing a full range of emotions on display as a STRENGTH is a nice thing, usually only limited to something like magical girl anime. And Peach has such mastery over them that she's essentially a Zen master. It just boggles my mind that we have all these series where anger is a superpower but the second someone weaponizes joy, somehow that's a problem.
Am a woman, and I second this. When I heard about and got Super Princess Peach, the emotion angle never bothered me in the slightest. (Really my only complaint was that I dropped it due to difficulty, lol) Maybe it's because most of my formative Mario games were things like SMB2, Super Paper Mario, Mario Parties and Karts, and the Olympic games? So from my earliest years, Peach never had any "damsel in distress" allegations to dodge, exactly? (Like, I knew mentally that she got kidnapped in some of the games, but she had already cemented herself as capable and awesome on my mind, so...)
AFAB here, let me be your first one! Yes, the fact that the one game starring a girl revolves around emotions has to be understood under a sexist and patriarchal lens-because that's the society we live in and it informs the arts that are being made. The mere presence of the theme isn't innocuous, it doesn't come from nowhere. Then, if we move on from that, we can dig deeper: considering Peach obeys another patriarcal damsel-in-distress trope most of the time, leaning into emotions and being able to make them a strength in the game that uses her as an active protagonist is thematically interesting. I think you have a very reactionary vision of any art analysis under a feminist lens as judgmental. Just as any other form of analysis, it's meant to be descriptive, not prescriptive. Yes, making the Peach game about emotions can be understood as informed by traditional gender roles, that doesn't mean we think the game is bad or can't be empowering-two things can be true at once. Analyses like this can be used by a person to explain their dislike/dismissal of a game and dear god, I do that a lot, but it's not automatic. We're noticing things. That doesn't mean we're out to tear games down.
Weaponizing joy isn't the problem here and I think you know that. Honestly it doesn't matter how they contextualize it within' the game, they make decisions like this for a reason. They chose to have it appear on a surface level to gamify mood swings. This is the starting point when coming up with a game, they did not start with the full story context, they started with what they considered to be a natural extension of Peach at the time, which was apparently just extreme emotional outbursts. When they applied this type of thinking to working with the character, Mario got a jetpack, so it's pretty clear where their heads were at.
@@tigaliytdon't use afab as shorthand for woman. That is transphobic in every way. Like omg agab terms were literally made because agab doesn't mean anything abt what a person's gender actually is.
I think Princess Peach Showtime was genuinely a fun game! It's an amazing entry point game for kids, especially little girls who might not be encouraged to play games in the first place (like I wasn't). For me particularly it was extreme eye candy, the finale was super hype and the different play styles were well implemented. I had fun! That being said, it is true that this became a "jack of all trades" game, and I'd love to see a sequel with polished gameplay and the amazing visuals we got on this one (and please, better framerates too!)
Sadly it only targets kids. Why make a game for kids anyway when this is just one out of the 1,000 or more of games on the Switch that gas targeted kids? It makes them not want to play anymore games because there is nothing for kids except Princess Peach Showtime! Especially little girls. Nintendo lacks targeting kids anyway. I’m the opposite of Arlo. I enjoy all genres. Even Princess Peach Showtime! Sometimes I don’t need a hard Nintendo game or a game from Reflect Studios and just want to play. Next month I’ll be getting Princess Peach Showtime! for myself.
Well honestly, I got this game for my 11 year old sisters birthday and she has had a lot of fun with it. The 2 button controls were perfect for her, given that she struggles with games that have 3 or more. The Puzzles were just enough difficult, and it is her favorite game on our switch (Big brother moment) anyhoo I think that the game should have had mechanics feel a bit more flushed out, and had a difficulty settings option.
I played the demo, and was well aware I was not the target audience. While most of their games are all ages, this one is obviously for a much younger audience. And that’s fine. I got plenty of games to play
I refuse to follow that notion that Showtime is more younger audience but I will agreed in terms of the difficulty level. Yes it’s aimed that I’m more younger audience but I still think that princess Pete showtime is for everyone like all Nintendo games.
As someone who bought the game. The demo really REALLLY didn't fo the game any service. It chose like the 2 easiest and most basic levels and called it a day.
Just because a game is easy doesn’t mean it’s unabashedly aimed at kids. Like you said the easiness adds to the feeling the devs were probably going for
27:06 The voice really bothered me at times, actually. It just didn't sound like Peach. But most of the time, it was when she was playing a role, so I suppose it was her putting on a voice. But if they just make her voice deeper per default in future games, then I wouldn't be chuffed about it.
Swordfighter Peach's voice is so deep I was shocked. I wonder if that means canonically Peach's voice has always been deeper and she just speaks in a soft high-pitched voice as a way of expressing herself or maintaining her image as a dainty, elegant noble? Perhaps I'm reading too far into it and her voice just magically changes when she puts on a role lol. I mean it's the power of SPARKLE, of course!
Despite being lambasted for its less-than-stellar theming and implications, Super Princess Peach is an engaging 2D platformer with interesting mechanics. We would not even have Showtime without SPP. Currently, I am playing through SPP on the DS and it really is a good game even if it may lean into some stereotypical ideas
6:13 i don't necessarily see it as a gendered thing. The emotions mechanic appealed to me there,as it does in many games. The other notable one i remember is in Klonoa, and Planet Laika, and those are far from feminine, maybe the latter more.
I love it too! Also yeah there are challenging stuff like some of the boss challenges, a few of the sparkle gems in the levels, and a lot of the rehearsals.
In summary, he feels so sad that PP Showtime had very promising conceptual properties as a potential masterpiece, but actually one or two steps shy due to difficulty / optimization issues.
@@grnpyro5110most people complain about that because they usually look at it in a pretty shallow way, it’s annoying but it happens. The game itself I remember being really good with a few questionable designs in how you beat the game. People thinking that it’s as shallow as “mood swings” haven’t done basically any research
yeah, that was a bit iffy. i know it's the funny american reviewer thing to be like "oh my god this is offensive!!" but it was a fine game. certainly more challenging than this one.
@@YARGGG_GGyeaah Arlo was edging a little close to the stereotypical woke mindset there a bit 😅 not to mention pretending like it’s the early 2000’s where people don’t know girls like to play games too lol.
I had a voucher expiring a couple days after Peach released. My kids enjoyed the demo. After spending way too long analyzing what other games I could get with the voucher, I decided to go with Peach because it hopefully will be a more approachable game for my kids to get into. So far my son (8) has been more into it than my daughter (5). She got really frustrated by the second level of the demo because she couldn’t tap the button fast enough to pass the cake making mini-game.
This game made me realize something about spinoffs. Imagine if this game wasn't about princess peach, and was a new IP in a new universe with new characters. Same gameplay and everything, but a new IP. Would anyone buy it? Maybe some people, but it would need to be far more impressive. Lots of AAA companies have stopped making spinoffs of their mainline series. When's the last time you saw a spinoff of a AAA series made by a company not named Nintendo Atlus or Square Enix? Instead, if anyone in the AAA space wants to try a new idea, they either have to make it a huge game that will impress everyone with graphics and ambition, or they have to go indie and start all over. Spinoffs like this let developers try new ideas without starting from nothing. When people say they want smaller games with worse graphics, this is what they're asking for. They're not asking for indie games or lower quality products. They just want spinoffs - new ideas in familiar packages. We don't get a lot of those anymore.
I feel like if this was a new IP, people would actually be far easier on it. I think part of the criticism here is the ‘Mario factor’. The game doesn’t feel as polished or had as much thought and care as other Mario games, and that probably wouldn’t have happened without the Peach character. Take something like Splatoon, that was a new IP at the time that didn’t have any pre-established expectations, so a lot of people were able to just take it as it was and the game was allowed to shine at doing its own thing.
@@kuraihikari5785Actually, no. Splatoon is given a bad rep especially with the sequels by the online reddit gaming audience. Dunkey was upset at the idea that Splatoon 3 was deserving of a "One more thing" Direct slot
Funny you mention using Spin-offs as a way to test new ideas, as the developers behind XCOM: Chimera squad were upfront that they were using the game to test out ideas that could be used in XCOM 3. It helps that the game is $20. The quality of the game depends on who you ask (personally I thought it was a ton of fun, though I mostly stick with XCOM 2 due to having more meat on its bones. That, and there are way more mods) but the developers transparency went a long way.
I really love the "inconsistency" of the bosses because I find the variety really creative and they, with the exeption of one, really balance out the "easiness" of the game. Which is what I also love about Peach, you can play the whole game with 3 buttons, which not only makes sense, since you have so many different play styles, but I just generally missed that in games lately. We were playing a mario party game recently, like the one that got remade for the switch, and my biggest complaint for that game is that at every minigame, which is my favourite thing about Mario Party, you have to basically learn a whole new control set to play it. Peach doesn't need that, and I think its better this way. And about the difficulty thing, I think the difficulty was perfectly fine, and one of the few times where I would even say the "it's for kids" reason is completely justified. I remember struggling at easier games when I was still 8 years old, so I think for a child around this age it's perfectly balanced, and as a young adult I wouldn't say it was that easy either.
I think i've found the perfect audience for this game. My sister turns 18 next week and she has autism and struggles with dexterity sometimes. she looooved pikmin but i had to help her lots because the game was just too hard and things that were so obvious to me never crossed her mind. fingers crossed she finally gets to feel like an equal with this one!!
Oh god dexterity is something hardly anyone talks about. I have HORRIBLE motor skills and have to play games with more simplistic control schemes because of it.
Honestly I think you're reading too much into it when you say they made it super easy because its a Peach game or because their target audience was young girls. I think it might just be a Good Feel issue. Because I had similar feelings of the game being 'so easy it just kind of bored me' with Yoshi's Crafted World which was made by the same developer. Kirby's Epic Yarn, also made by Good Feel was also extremely easy from what I've heard (though I haven't played Epic Yarn so I don't have as concrete of an opininion there) The only Good Feel game that I feel like did have some level of challenge was Yoshi's Wooly World, which even then it was pretty easy, but some of the extra levels got pretty challenging. I don't think they we're deliberately dialing down the difficulty of the game because they think girls can't handle difficulty.
Rosalina's name in spanish is Estela. Having a sidekick who kinda looks like a chibi Rosalina in this game and her name being Stela would not be confusing at all, that's for sure
i really don’t see this game as any more kid oriented than kirby or yoshi. certainly more than mario, but going for 100%, i think it’s got a great level of engaging design. that’s where the game stops being for kids and becomes for everybody. the game really doesn’t handhold that much, the bosses that take investigating to figure out how to progress are testament to that. if this really was just for little girls, stella would offer help on these bosses. IMO, i think writing this off as for kids more than yoshi or kirby is not something the game is bringing.
Yoshi is a mixed Bag crafted world was again subpar at best but Wholly world was stright fun and addictive and kirby has some pretty challenge boss battles Peach's showtime by design is kinda, clunky and sluggish
Most Kirby games have major challenges locked away deep inside the game, like the Arena or Extra Mode. Heck, going for a score of 100 in Yoshi's Island is one of the most difficult things you can undertake in any game! Showtime doesn't really seem to have any of that. And it's fine, but if I were a parent I'd wait for some sort of sale.
It’s not even that easy for kids. My 4.5 year old can play games like Sonic 2, Mario Kart etc absolutely fine. He can do sword fighter peach levels. But he doesn’t have the strength to bash the B button for the patisserie sections. I wish they’d just have added a hold “B” option instead.
For me, I think it's the fact that every costume feels a little underdeveloped I feel the game would have really benefitted from having either a third normal level for the 10 costumes. Or better yet, focusing their efforts on 5 costumes with 4 normal levels each. This way, they could slowly intorduce more mechanics for each costume and could gradually increase the challenge. Then, finally, have the Sparkla rescue level be a test of everything you've learned. I appreciate that having all 10 offers a variety of gameplay styles, but as Arlo said towards the end of this video, some of them are only fun to play once or twice. To add to this, because each only gets 2 levels, some are really unevenly spaced out. For example, [SPOILERS!] all of the Swordfighter levels are handled by the end of floor 2. This includes the Sparkla level as the game forces to do it straight away as part of a cutscene. Meaning you don't get to play as Swordfighter Peach for the rest of the game unless you replay. Similarly, the first Kung-fu level isn't until floor 4, then the second is immediately on the fifth and final floor. [END OF SPOILERS!] If I were to personally pick and choose 5 costumes. I'd cut; Cowgirl, Pâtisserie (which I loved aesthetically, I'm just not sure how you could stretch it out over 4 levels), Detective, Mermaid, and Kung-fu. This means they'd be Swordfighter, Ninja, Figure Skater, Dashing Theif, and Mighty left to work with. You could even bring back the cut 5 as the minigame levels. TL:DR Having fewer costumes means more effort could have been spent on developing the ones that remain, which could have led to the late game being more complex/challenging.
I'd argue that Nintendo's whole thing isn't that they make games for everyone. More so that they get em while they're young & create a lot of memorable experiences that result in adults that love their games. I am, however, pretty tired of hearing "it's for kids" as an excuse for poor writing or design.
I just got through the game and I hate to admit it but I half agree with your opinion. I was expecting this game to be easy but I didn’t think it would take 2 streams to finish it. I love Swordfighter, Dashing Thief, Mighty, & Ninja with Pastry & Mermaid being the least favorable for me. The theater theme is amazing and fits in line with Mario as I view the entire Nintendo world as a stage play or movie but the gameplay can be a mixed bag. If we could use the ensembles for boss fights like using Swordfighter on Spotlion, that would be fun. But that’s just me. But I think we can all unanimously agree that we need full voice acting!
It wasn’t supposed to be a long ass game. If you want that, ply Zelda. This game likely has the same hour length as Yoshi and Splatoon 3, and Metroid Dread. Ou well. Not every game has to be 100+ hours long. That to me would be boring.
Honestly, I prefer Super Princess Peach. As a videogame overall, it felt much better and less... asinine than Showtime. The mood mechanics in Super are not only explained in the story as being the result of a magical curse, but they also affect all characters and not Peach alone, so I never felt it was a mysoginistic jab. People may disagree, but if I were to summarize their comparison, I would say Super Princess Peach felt more about Peach actually having a platformer adventure, whereas Showtime just felt like it was about Peach being a girl
I personally have enjoyed this game, it scratches that "unwind after a long day" itch that I don't really get with a lot of games, but yeah, $60 is not a good price for this game. Really should've been $50 or $40
I honestly loved all of it as an adult woman. I only wished it had more stages for transformations. This feels like they are testing the waters to see how well Peach will sell nowadays. Hoping we get a more fleshed out sequel or something. Also, my only gripe with the "because it's Peach" comment is that Metroid and Bayonetta exist. Of course they're not Princessess but they are still femine icons so I still don't believe in that notion from Nintendo yet. However I believe this game has accomplished one thing. I think Peach will not be a damsel in distress anymore and she's finally going to be a major part in the next mario game line after the remakes.
Samus has to wear a suit Bayonetta isn't made by Nintendo, only published and was bought because Nintendo wanted something to prove to hardcore gamers that Nintendo cared about them during the Wii U early days
@@internetguy7319What's wrong with a woman wearing a suit? And if Bayonetta wasn't bought, the franchise would've gone bankrupt if nintendo didn't buy it, cause no one wanted to take a chance on it for some reason.

Princess Peach is my favorite video game character of all time + I’ve been a Peach fan since I was in preschool and this game has helped me heal my inner child so much. Imo I don’t care if the demographic for this game is more on the kid side, I genuinely had so much fun and joy playing this game even as a 22 year old.
@@fredy2041you really need to grow up i don't like this game (especially for $60) but I'm not replying to every comment to crap on those who do like it
i’m so happy for you that this game was able to give you so much joy!!! I completely understand how special and healing things can be when they relate to something as meaningful as it sounds like Peach is to you, so i’m really glad you enjoyed the game and that your inner child was comforted by it ❤️
Ok but tbf as a girl that grew up playing super princess peach on the DS, that game slayed. The emotions feature being messed up didn’t even occur to me until I was an adult.
People tend to make a big deal about things they don't understand until someone shows the the reason why things are what they are. In case of SPP, those four emotions are equal to the four deity emotions, which can involve people and the environment, according to the japanese mythology. However, here in the west, people only see a female character being apparently turned into a clown or a sexist joke, which is not true. But then again, people are lazy and do no research.
Not only that I think SPP was also fleshed out even if the platforming is easy...you could argue it has self-imposed difficulty by not using the Calm vibe too (although you could argue that shouldn't have been OP in the first place).
Having fun is the most important thing when you play a game. Never listen to critics, make your own opinion. It is a shame, that adults making such a fuzz about the SPP features without knowing what it could mean or what it could mean in Japan. They only see a woman and think that the emotion feature is something stereotype. Again, this is the reason why I stopped listening to critics, because those people have a one-way-look for things and only speak for themselves. Enjoy the games you like and be happy with them. Nothing more, nothing less.
If you never did play it, maybe consider giving Super Princess Peach an actual shot. Setting aside, I remember that gameplay being far more engaging and fun. As far as this game goes, on the one hand it is perfectly allowed to be simple and "for kids". But the demo literally put me to sleep. And I'm not dropping 80 bucks in Canadian money for this. The real downer is I could be interested in playing it, just not at full price. But being a first party game, it'll either never go on sale, or at most be 20 bucks off, and that's still too damn much for me.
I made a post somewhere similar to your take on the whole "easy game" discussion. My problem isn't necessarily when a game is too easy, my problem is when a game that's easy like this doesn't have that "difficult to master" element in it. You can have an easy game with depth. It's why Nintendo is still so appealing to me with a good amount of their games, despite a lot of them being on the easier side. Sure, you can say get through Mario 64 for example relatively easily because of all the options to choose from when deciding which star to go for next. But because of the way the movement abilities in that game are, the way that it rewards you picking and choosing a preferred path, there is a high skill ceiling with it if you want there to be. In addition, Nintendo games usually have a solid difficulty curve that steadily increases through out. Combine that with the challenge of learning more advanced movement tricks and what not, and you've done it. You have a game that is an engaging and well crafted experience for adults and kids alike. Which brings me to this game. Like you, I was really stoked about getting another spin off like this. But yeah, I also just looked at the gameplay (and played the demo) and it just didn't seem like that type of situation here. There didn't appear to be any kind of attack chaining, reward for knowledge on a replay (except maybe those collectables) it just kinda seemed like a mash A simulator. Idk, maybe I judged it early, back to your review.

I like how the cashier just gave up on trying to sell the protection plan
I mean, the games are made out of Nintendium, the protection plan is just a scam. Unless you play X-box, or PlayStation or something, IDK...
Least believable part of the video
protection plans are meant to be extended warranties but with Nintendo/SONY/Xbox games they usually will provide replacements under a year anyways; and stores have a 2-4 weeks warranty which is usually enough of a plan. So the protection plan is just redundant, and ultimately victimizes insecure people usually soccer moms and bad joke dads who don't know any better.

Sometimes, the simplest and easiest video games are the best to play.
AGREE! I haven't had much time for gaming sense starting my new job and this game has been an enjoyable play for me throughout the week.
58 year old woman here. I TOTALLY hear you!😂
21:34 when my son started playing Mario kart, he cried a lot, and kind of got angry at us for playing something he couldn't. His version of playing game was holding the a button. No steering. Because if he did, it would go awry. And on top of that, it hurt him on a deeply personal level when his character cried after finally passing the finish line. That was maybe 2 years ago, and he's turning seven soon, but there is definitely a place for easy.
Lol! What a loser!!
This is why you pirate. I played the full game 3 days early for free

I really think they put a lot of work into Peach's design in this game.
I played it as a kid and I liked it a lot. I remember feeling moved to tears when they revealed Perry's backstory.
Super Princess Peach is a genuinely fun game and people overreacting to its premise says a lot more about them than it does about the game.
It's not murder, it's "natural selection"
Even if it was the stereotype... Who cares???
And if those emotions turn you into the avatar on this island then of course you're gonna use them.

Personally I would like to see more out of Peach. My White Mage from SMRPG needs more screen time. There was this comic one time where someone got up in arms about Bowser kidnapping Peach because she's a girl and then Bowser comes back with her being a valuable political leader. Like... I never got far with Odyssey because I didn't gel with the gameplay.
I absolutely loved this game. Sure it's "easy", but I died too many times to admit for it being "easy" 😅
This game was a feel good, easy, almost 100% stress free game with cute costumes and fun little stories featured in the plays and a decently interesting overarching story.
It's honestly the first Mario game I've finished since Sunshine 😅
I'm not saying Arlo is wrong in any way, I just wanted to leave my thoughts because we seemed to have really opposite take aways when it came to the difficulty level being good or bad.

It just turns out personally, I greatly benefit from how easy it is 😂
But I realize I'm not every Princess Peach fan.

I just wanted to share that because sometimes when I watch people review things... I don't know.
Sometimes it feels like the way I enjoy games is frowned upon and can be labeled as a bad game when it's just a different style/pace than what "most" gamers want.

what's up with nintendo and giving their characters massive schnozes?
So comparing the three on that aspect feels a bit dismissive
That's like saying that the fighting mechanics in Tekken are more refined than the fighting mechanics in Ocarina of Time.
She's also the only one to CONTROL them.
@@BJGvideosNot only control them, but flipping them on and off "at will". Most people don`t seem to get, that mood swings are uncontrollable. She literally can tune her emotions on and off like the Phantom from AA: Dual Destinies does.

You mean like every other Mario game in existence?

That intro felt like a Seinfeld episode…10/10 would Arlo again!
Biggest issue for me is the fact that there are missable collectibles when stages are this long (some 20 minutes + long!) and a lot of them have unskippable cutscenes, etc...

(Really my only complaint was that I dropped it due to difficulty, lol)
Maybe it's because most of my formative Mario games were things like SMB2, Super Paper Mario, Mario Parties and Karts, and the Olympic games?
I don’t know how many women I’ve seen talk about SPP in the first place, let alone complain about it lol
Oh hey Mari, surprised to see you here. Hope your day is going well 💜💜
Sadly it only targets kids.
Yeah beacuse she is a brainless toddler that doesnt know any better. I started playing Galaxy at her age. Why cant your sister?
I played the demo, and was well aware I was not the target audience. While most of their games are all ages, this one is obviously for a much younger audience. And that’s fine. I got plenty of games to play
yes. and thats ok.
I refuse to follow that notion that Showtime is more younger audience but I will agreed in terms of the difficulty level. Yes it’s aimed that I’m more younger audience but I still think that princess Pete showtime is for everyone like all Nintendo games.
@@Adamtendo_player_1The game is simpler than Kirby
As someone who bought the game. The demo really REALLLY didn't fo the game any service. It chose like the 2 easiest and most basic levels and called it a day.
This is literally the exact mindset Arlo was advocating against
Just because a game is easy doesn’t mean it’s unabashedly aimed at kids. Like you said the easiness adds to the feeling the devs were probably going for
Exactly. Men need to feel masculine. Games also make them feel this way. I don’t care. I’m buying it.
It’s crazy how just glasses make me believe it’s actually a different character
27:06 The voice really bothered me at times, actually. It just didn't sound like Peach. But most of the time, it was when she was playing a role, so I suppose it was her putting on a voice. But if they just make her voice deeper per default in future games, then I wouldn't be chuffed about it.
I think if they wanted to do that, they would've done it in Wonder too
I think it'll be fine
Swordfighter Peach's voice is so deep I was shocked. I wonder if that means canonically Peach's voice has always been deeper and she just speaks in a soft high-pitched voice as a way of expressing herself or maintaining her image as a dainty, elegant noble? Perhaps I'm reading too far into it and her voice just magically changes when she puts on a role lol. I mean it's the power of SPARKLE, of course!
Sheesh, du lebst ja noch. Guckst kein Domtendo mehr, wa?
believe it or not women can make deep voices on command
I feel so seen in the character of Brad, retail therapy is a real thing
what is this super princess peach slander? that is a fun game and there's nothing wrong with emotion powers.
I personally loved it. There are some challenges that are tough to beat! Especially boss rematches for 100%.
6:08 Her power isn't swings at all, literally it's strictly under her control.
Arlo loves to complain about games he's never played
@@grnpyro5110most people complain about that because they usually look at it in a pretty shallow way, it’s annoying but it happens. The game itself I remember being really good with a few questionable designs in how you beat the game. People thinking that it’s as shallow as “mood swings” haven’t done basically any research
yeah, that was a bit iffy. i know it's the funny american reviewer thing to be like "oh my god this is offensive!!" but it was a fine game. certainly more challenging than this one.

The role of games for little kids is already taken in Nintendo by Kirby. We keep having this conversation.
Perhaps but exclusively if it's indie
I feel like if this was a new IP, people would actually be far easier on it. I think part of the criticism here is the ‘Mario factor’. The game doesn’t feel as polished or had as much thought and care as other Mario games, and that probably wouldn’t have happened without the Peach character.
Take something like Splatoon, that was a new IP at the time that didn’t have any pre-established expectations, so a lot of people were able to just take it as it was and the game was allowed to shine at doing its own thing.
Mojang/Microsoft with Minecraft spinoffs
Yeah I loved the bosses. I’m a young adult as well and would also say the game wasn’t TOO easy.
Aww, I hope she loves it!
Kirby's Epic Yarn, also made by Good Feel was also extremely easy from what I've heard (though I haven't played Epic Yarn so I don't have as concrete of an opininion there)
The only Good Feel game that I feel like did have some level of challenge was Yoshi's Wooly World, which even then it was pretty easy, but some of the extra levels got pretty challenging.
IMO, i think writing this off as for kids more than yoshi or kirby is not something the game is bringing.
get gud.
@@johnmarkson1990hey i’m not the one here who found the boss fights in this game unreadable
Yoshi is a mixed Bag crafted world was again subpar at best but
Wholly world was stright fun and addictive and kirby has some pretty challenge boss battles
Peach's showtime by design is kinda, clunky and sluggish
Most Kirby games have major challenges locked away deep inside the game, like the Arena or Extra Mode.
Heck, going for a score of 100 in Yoshi's Island is one of the most difficult things you can undertake in any game!
Showtime doesn't really seem to have any of that. And it's fine, but if I were a parent I'd wait for some sort of sale.
@@redpup112have you played it?
That intro was one of the funniest things I've seen all year. Thanks for making that Arlo
For me, I think it's the fact that every costume feels a little underdeveloped
I feel the game would have really benefitted from having either a third normal level for the 10 costumes.
[END OF SPOILERS!]
If I were to personally pick and choose 5 costumes.
Super Princess Peach is great Arlo, play it.
I'd argue that Nintendo's whole thing isn't that they make games for everyone. More so that they get em while they're young & create a lot of memorable experiences that result in adults that love their games.
I am, however, pretty tired of hearing "it's for kids" as an excuse for poor writing or design.
That intro has got to be one of Arlo's best
Arlo’s skits are genuinely amazing.
The awkward skit at the beginning definitely overstayed its welcome
Honestly, I prefer Super Princess Peach. As a videogame overall, it felt much better and less... asinine than Showtime. The mood mechanics in Super are not only explained in the story as being the result of a magical curse, but they also affect all characters and not Peach alone, so I never felt it was a mysoginistic jab.
People may disagree, but if I were to summarize their comparison, I would say Super Princess Peach felt more about Peach actually having a platformer adventure, whereas Showtime just felt like it was about Peach being a girl
I like the idea that the whole thing is an actual play presented by peach, watched by the other characters
I love Arlo's cute sense of humor at the beginning of the video! That sorta stuff where Arlo is being so pleasant just makes my day.
I’d actually recommend super princess peach! The gameplay rocks and the story/themes are a bit different than you’re expecting!
20:30 that's exactly what they were thinking and that's a VERY Nintendo thing. One of the still most stuck in the past companies out there.
Samus has to wear a suit
Bayonetta isn't made by Nintendo, only published and was bought because Nintendo wanted something to prove to hardcore gamers that Nintendo cared about them during the Wii U early days
@@internetguy7319What's wrong with a woman wearing a suit? And if Bayonetta wasn't bought, the franchise would've gone bankrupt if nintendo didn't buy it, cause no one wanted to take a chance on it for some reason.

Ok but tbf as a girl that grew up playing super princess peach on the DS, that game slayed. The emotions feature being messed up didn’t even occur to me until I was an adult.
Same!! And I wished Showtime was more like SPP, but I had a fun time with it regardless
That skit was incredible, thank you for putting that together Arlo
I could not stop laughing at the Arlo at the checkout counter bit. I'm not suggesting they need to be in every video, but please more Arlo skits where he deals with everyday life. It was absurd, it was awkward, it was hilarious. More please. More!!
