This vid clearly explained everything i needed for my 4l60 to 4l80 swap as far as wiring goes i did need to shorten my rear driveshaft slightly because of trans housing being a bit longer 4x4 drivshaft needed lengthening as well crossmember repositioned back couple inches as well
I AM doing the 4l60e to 4l80e swap in my 1995 c1500. I have the computer out of a c2500 with the same applications such as 5.7. And 4l80e. Where as mine was a 5.7. And 4l60e. My question is. If I put the computer and transmission from the 2500 in my c1500. Do I need to change anything on the wiring harness? And if so. What? Any help very appreciated.
Bro I have a question maybe you have the answer. I have a 92 Chevy 3500 with a 454 in it and the early 4l80e transmission. I had to splice in a new wiring harness bc the customer was having to drive around with the front drive shaft out bc the drive shaft was rubbing the plug. So we had to update the internal harness and external harness. Got it all rebuilt and wiring done and I keep getting code 73 for a force motor. Tried 3 different pcs's/ force motors. I ran electrical checks and it's getting the correct amperage I believe. Now I also replaced the throttle position sensor bc it wasnt building up to 5 volts as it should. The new throttle position sensor is still not reaching 5 volts. Still the same code. It clears and reappears instantly. I'm thinking it could be the computer but I don't want to just throw parts at it we have alot invested in it as it is. If you have any clue what it could be I would really appreciate your opinion. This truck is plaguing us and we're kind of in a tight spot and need to get it done. Thanks
I don't know about those earlier trucks but on my 2000, I believe its the fuse labeled IGN 3 controls shit for the trans and when mine blew it did shit kinda like that. There was a pinched wire that was causing it to short and pop the fuse. Probably not the same for that truck but worth a shot 🤷♂️
Now i can get my 80 e swap later on and I’ll come back to this video.thank yo soo much made it seem so easy and not complicated.jeep up the good vids 😎
I need to know how to put back on my wire harness?? And I'm swapping a 4.8 4l60 to a 6.0 4l80 why do I have to tune my computer if it's the original computer the the stock 6.0 and transmission
Depending on what year 80e you get you have to extend a line. Which you can just cut it with a brake line tool and use high pressure hose to extend it. Be sure to use fuel injection clamps, I like to do 2 on each side and flare the end of the hardline too just to be safe
When you re-pin the PCM with the speed sensor did you just load 4L80E files on the PCM and it automatically picks up the added speed sensor or do you need to program and tell it too
SniderTron 3000 will that work for the 1994 era i have the right computer just the wiring harness for a 4l60e only wiring harness i could put my hands on
Swapping out one of these in an RV. My connector which is a 91 is the same one here shown on the vehicle you're working on the green with the two slots and I've have a 92 4L80E that I was planning to put it in the old ones place will this type of swap work with that?
If you want I could send you the pinout diagrams for both of them on messenger Facebook or whatever or by text if you want if that would help but yeah we've been having a bear of a Time getting these repairs done and I'm really hoping that this is compatible it's just one year is difference swapping a 92 in for a 91 but I didn't realize the pinout was going to be different Thanks.
Hello! I’m having trouble with my swap cause the only thing I find is for a 99 and newer models. I have a 1997 and I have completely installed 3/4t running gear in. Do you have info on a 97? ¡Good and helpful job! I have an ls1 with the 4l60 that came on it but i want to swap to an 4l80, ¿can i do the same wiring of this video to make it work? Thanks.

Hi, the 4l80e I got it has 2 speed sensor, now the one on top of the shift switch the plug seems different then the one on the rear of the trany. What will I have to do there? I got the new added plug connected to the pcm already but the other plug doesn't fit that one sensor.

SniderTron 3000 heck yeah, thanks man. I’ll be watching your build now! Wishing I would have went with more of a budget build instead of the way I went. Would of liked to have the money for an 80e and turbo sooner. I’m so broke from the swap 🤦🏻♂️
If you are putting it behind an LS engine with an LS harness and computer, yes. If you are hooking an 80e directly to a SBC or 454, you’ll need a standalone transmission controller.
If you're using the factory 80e converter, I believe you'll need a 6.0 flexplate and spacer. I went with a Circle D converter and that adapts to the 5.3 plate.
SniderTron 3000 ok man I appreciate it I think I’ll just go with a circle d also and save some trouble I don’t want to run that spacer with twins I don’t trust it bad enough I’m going to crack the fly wheel 😂
Oh, and by the way unlike here where you're doing a 4L60E to a 4l80E this is a 4L80E to a 4L80E swap so a 91 4l80E being swapped out for a 92 4L80E like I said all my research told me they should be the same transmission but just apparently the pinouts different. All the info I could find before the transmission got here told me 91 through 93 had the same pinout. But then I looked up 91 pinout again and it actually did show this green connector. Versus the new 92 one which has a square peg in the center for the connector to hold on instead of the two rectangular holes to hold the connector on.
You did it! Congrats! Now do the segment swap, remove ALL trans torque management, and set shift times to 0. I can email my hptuners tune if you want for when I did my 4l80 swap. Shoot me an email.
