You are what the youtube used to be about back in the day. A person recording themselves in their habitat and speaking of the things they are passionate about, finding the audience that truly likes and appreciate it. As a big Misfits/Samhain/Danzig fan, I really enjoy your videos on this subject and hope that you'll keep making these videos, despite the fact that you'll (probably) remain out of the youtube's corrupted and shitty algorithm.
That is exactly what I want to do on TH-cam! I don’t care about views, subscribers or appealing to the algorithm, I just want to share what I like with the few others that have the same interests.
Another well articulated review. The impending doom off Samhain while still being fun and catchy. The ranking works well. Great work \m/ (shit yes, Archangel no.1. A difficult but great choice).
I remember my neighbor woke me up at 3am in the morning, he just got the boxset, we listened to each cd til the sun came up, this was in 2000. That’s awesome u did a review on one of favorite bands
Love this album. It's cool you like Samhain. They were a very cult band, no normal people have ever heard of them. My favorite of all Samhain songs is "Descent" off final descent. There are 2 versions of lyrics floating around the internet, the wrong ones and the real ones. It's total poetry.
You calling me weird then? Haha, just kidding. Honestly I am not as huge as a fan of Final Descent. John Christ’s guitar style doesn’t really fit Samhain in my opinion so it sounds kinda off. But it’s not a bad album and I have to agree that Descent is a great song.
Glenn’s weird about the Samhain stuff for some reason and any uploads usually get taken down. I’ve even tried to upload the songs myself and they get blocked.
Excellent album, I can almost play all the songs on bass, except for the song Samhain, and All Murder,All Guts,All Fun, still trying to learn those. Kinda hard to decipher because the album has alot of reverb in the mixes.
November Coming Fire is also good if you liked this album. Live seeing your generation discover underground old school punk and goth! Great shirt also! Try the Cramps if you want to get weird with it!
There is no record before or is there a record after that matches or compares to Initium. This album is a once in a lifetime expression of darkness. Is it hardcore or post-punk? Is it metal? I can’t really say? And I don’t care! I only call this album a masterpiece. Thank you for making this video!
@@thatmediocreguitarist Why do you think I jump on every video that you mention Samhain. I’ll comment on other videos (nice “My War” tshirt btw) but yeah, Samhain has had a musical influence on me as a songwriter that no other artist can touch! Geez, I wish you would listen to Dragon Rapid already! Lol, I’m not saying that we sound exactly like Samhain but they’re always considered within’ my creative decisions. There’s an Easter egg sample in one of our song that I don’t want to mention on here because I didn’t exactly seek permission hahaha
This album changed Glenn Danzig's game. While Hardcore was fizzling out and the Crossover scene was soon erupting, Glenn took a dark turn and got influence by mostly English Dark Wave/Goth. He was listening to bands like March Violets, Sisters of Mercy, Sex Gang Children, Alien Sex Fiend, Foetus etc. He admitted that he was setting up Initium with slower grooves and tribal drums. Earth A.D. was supposed to be slower with a Walk Among US type of tempo. Spot talked them into a Hardcore type of sound. Glenn still doesn't praise Earth A.D.
Yeah I’ve heard a bit about the discourse around Earth A.D. I still love it nonetheless but it definitely would’ve been cool to hear some of the songs on there with a slower pace. But having such different sounds between a lot of his albums is what makes Danzig’s discography so awesome to me!
Honestly I have not really watched any at all. Except a for a few cheesy old ones from the 50s that I’ve watched with my grandparents. I’m not a huge fan of movies in general though.
@@thatmediocreguitarist i like the classics like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Exorcist. Then Again I don’t like movies or music from about 2005 and on (with a few exceptions) it seems like creativity kinda died off after the internet got popular.

the songs are good its like he got into UK Death rock around that time (but with a jersey meathead twist to it) .The overall feel is like an unfinished demo. I like lowfi but this is more like slapping unfished bits together. Still a good album, its no bahaus' first or rudimentary peni death church but c+ for effort.
I agree with you, it definitely has an unfinished, demo-y sound. While Initium is a good album, I think November Coming Fire is the most fleshed out and complete sounding Samhain album.
@@thatmediocreguitarist SInce you seem to really be into that danzig stuff you should really check out the Trasher interview from 1986 by Brian (Pushead). Its on youtube and totally worth it because it shows him being kinda of normal making pasta being interupted by his cats and being a weeb.

Absolutely, and it is fantastic
I'm with you on the church of archangel. Also love the howl as well..this was a very inspirational record for me growing up...
The Howl is great. First Samhain song I ever heard!
Mine was "all murder..." it's also one of the first songs by them I figured out on guitar. 😂

Thank you. Samhain was an amazing band and I'm glad they're still talked about. Archangel will always hold that #1 spot.
Thank you for commenting! Samhain is great
thank you for your review of Samhain Initium. More people need to hear this album
I agree, it is incredibly underrated!
Very respectable ranking and I like how you layed it all out.

Haha, that’s an awesome story!
What a great album to review. Not only is it a great album but there aren't a lot of worthwhile reviews of it out there. Very cool.
Yeah, I think it deserves way more attention!
Good taste in music!!
I only listen to what sounds good!
This band was just gold… Archangel, The Howl, Macabre, All Murder, just great songs for different moods!
Hey, no way! I’ve watched some of your videos you have a really cool channel!
Hey look It’s killbot. But Samhain was gold and i wish they kept that macabre sound. I like it way more than the blues rock sound Danzig had

Try the Unholy Passion Ep (1985) and Samhain III: November Coming Fire (1986)
Nice list. The Howl is my favorite. But I can’t argue with your ranking.
The Howl was my favorite for a while but I listened to it too much and got a bit tired of it. That’s the only reason it’s not higher up on the list.

We've differed some on the Danzig rankings, but I can't agree more with this one. I also like the Misfits version of Horror Business better. 🤘
Yeah, I honestly can’t even pinpoint why the Misfits version is better to me but it just is.
The CD I had back in 2002 had Unholy Passion on it... you've heard that one before right?
