      Oh you are so welcome. I have been inthe mindset if there is already a how to video for something. That mine is just taking up space in the internet. BUT, I also have learned that some videos I learn better from others. So maybe I can help people out with my videos

    Thank you SO much for taking the time to make/ share this video! So many of the videos of sock machine knitting are made by people who are very seasoned and they have forgotten to share the spots where it is easy to drop stitches. All of your hints are very much appreciated!
    I look forward to watching more of your videos. Any and all would be appreciated! Kitchener stitch, different types of heels, set up of ribber, etc.

    Very clear tutorial for those with sock machines. I'm still enjoying my knitting but who knows this may be in my future at some point. Thanks

    Hi, my name is Sheila, I really appreciate your videos. They are very well explained and can understand clearly. For someone like me that doesn’t even have a machine,, yet, i am interested to see a step by step video to show us exactly how to start with a new machine. I have been looking into different ones and what size of cylinder to get. What do they mean?

    • @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter
      @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sheila! The cylinders are all the same size. They have different needle counts. Starting low like 48 all the way up to a 90some. The lower the number the thicker the yarn you can use. I can put sport, dk and worsted in my 48. 60, 64, 72 are all sock weight. The higher numbers use lace weight. If you are interested in an erlbacher, or another company. I really suggest calling them. They will ask all the questions to get you started with the right cylinder. I am glad that these videos are helpful to people. I really want to show as much as I can so people can get a better idea of the machines.

    That was incredibly interesting to watch. I never would have guessed all the extra techniques that you showed in the process of creating the hung hem.
    In regards to the rip cord, is that something you put on all sock tubes that you knit for sell? Do you include instructions on how to finish off the live edge?
    Thank you for showing this video. You are a great teacher. Your explanations are clear and thorough. 😊🧶

      @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am glad you learned a few things.
      I use the rip cord on my socks so I can remove them from the bonnet easier. I don't have to cut my waste yarn and it reduces the amount of waste, yarn i would throw away. I do not out it on the tubes I sell. They just have waste yarn so the Knitter can pick up the stitches easier.

    Are you going to put more Ball Bags in your shop? I think I bought the one that John did the yarn. Would like another!

    Thanks to you I have now managed to make a starter bonnet for my vintage machine. There are a couple more issues that I have ..first I need to buy a new buckle as the original one broke. My husband made me an improvised one which does work quite well, but I seem to need to pull down quite hard on the bonnet as I crank. So I'm wondering where I can get an new buckle, as I would assume any new buckle would work on an old CSM.
    Secondly, I'm using yarn cakes at present which sometimes cause a problem with the tension through the yarn carrier eg if the yarn dosen't come off the cake or gets snagged. Is it better to use yarn on cones, so that the yarn runs more freely?
    Thanks for all your help. You manage to explain things really clearly.

    • @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter
      @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome!
      You can buy buckles and weights on erlbachers site. And yes, you can use buckles or weights from anywhere. The total weight i put on my buckle is 5.5 lbs. A set of the 3 weights is about $55. Buckle $25
      I would HIGHLY suggest cones. The yarn should flow very freely to the machine. Some ball winders are better than other for the flow of the yarn. But I use my cones all the time. From erlbacher, 20 cones, $10.
      I also use the drill attachment to wind my cones. Much faster than by hand. Some cones will fit in certain hand winders, but not always.

      @@aquilladahun-aleftyknitter Thank you v much! Mine weights are approximately 3lbs 9 ozs....so probably could improve on that. Also my sock forks need more weight I think too. No doubt I will be back for more of your wisdom! 😊

    My csm arrives in March! So I’m searching for every available tutorial. This was great, thank you. Question re: ravel cord- does dental floss work?

    • @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter
      @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching!!!! There are great videos out there. I have never tried dental floss as ravel cord...I think as long as it's NOT WAXED, it might work. I know I pull pretty hard so the strength of the fishing line really helps.

    Hi! I've been watching a ton of CSM videos lately, trying to learn how they work, and how to make socks different ways. I'm currently building a 3D printed sock machine, and will be done with it soon... problem is, I have no yarn yet, and my question is what is your advice on a cheap yarn that is appropriate to learn on?

    • @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter
      @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the cones of aktive yarn is great. Large quantities, good price, average sock yarn thickness.
      Congratulations on making your own CSM

  • @DennBrown93

    This was so helpful!! Do you always knit from a cone and if so what cone winder do you use?
    I’m a newbie trying to figure out if I absolutely have to or if I can just knit from a regular cake of yarn. lol

    • @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter
      @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter  ปีที่แล้ว

      I talk about this in my episode where I make the fingerless gloves. About 99% of the time I use a cone. I bought the attachment for my drill and I use that and my swift to make my cones. You do not HAVE to use a cone. But I highly suggest it because it is the best way to have the yarn free flowing to the mast of the machine. Some ball winders will cake the yarn to where the strands almost go underneath the cake. That will cause tension issues.

    Thank you so much for sharing. What does rounded or semi rounded heel/toe means?

    • @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter
      @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're welcome. It's the way to decrease the stitches. If you decrease only 1 needle each row, it's more of an angled/slanted toe. If you decrease 2 needles on each side 4 to 6 times (and increase the same way) it gives more of a rounded toe. But you need to accommodate extra foot rows for that since the toe will be a little more shallow. I hope that makes sense. I will add that to my list of demonstrations

    Cool technique.
    Since those machines are pretty pricy, even the cheaper ones, do you have any recommendations of things to make sure to check for when purchasing one? Or a specific brand?

    • @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter
      @aquilladahun-aleftyknitter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. Yes, they can be pricey. But I have made so many amazing socks for my family and myself. That to me, it was worth it.
      I know Erlbacher has AMAZING customer service. I havent worked with any other companies to give an opinion. But that might be a question you ask other crankers with different machines.
      If you are going to buy a second hand one, I would suggest Erlbacher because you can get new parts for those machines. When it comes to an older machine and might need pieces, I am sure there are probably places to source them, but I have not done that. So I am not wmsure how easy it is.
