- In this video I show you how I process a raw Shetland fleece. I walk you through the entire process, from fleece to yarn. I did my best to keep everything as short and as informative as possible.
If you’re brand new to wool processing I think this video should provide everything you need!
Check out the awesome sources I found and thank you SO MUCH for watching 💖

this is the best shetland processing video i’ve ever seen. it’s such a pleasant watch. super engaging but not overstimulating ❤
Wow thank you so much!! That’s the best compliment 🫶🏽
What beautiful spinning - such consistency - oooolala !!!
when i saw how much you put into the intro to this video i hit SUBSCRIBE! this video was 🎉
Waking up to a nearly 50 min video to enjoy with my morning coffee was joyous and an extremely comfortable start to my Friday 🥰
Good morning 🌞 Yay!! Thank you I hope you enjoyed it. It was initially 2 hours 😂🫠
This is super helpful! Can't wait to dive into the videos linked below your own to learn more about the history of shetlands especially. We bought four shetlands last year, and between them and the finn sheep raw fleece I picked up at a fiber festival a few weeks ago, I now have 5 bags of raw wool sitting in my study, staring me in the face.... LOL. Great to see an instructional video specifically about shetland fleece processing --- and helpful too to know you've only done this a few times and yet you already have a good sense of confidence about what you're doing. Makes me feel like it's okay for me to jump in and get going!
Wow that’s a lot of fleece to process! Maybe send some to a mill if it gets too stressful. Thank you for watching, I’m glad my video can be of help. You got this 🐑💪🏽
You did a very nice job on your video .Thanks for the additional research and good camera work .Looking forward to seeing your Shetland project .
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! More to come down the line 😊
Wow I loved this (and you)! I’ve had a tough time finding people filming their process start to finish, so watching such a pleasant person doing just that was perfect 🤩
Yay thank you so nice 🥰 same I was always searching for the full process and never found a solid video. I’m glad I could fill that void 🧡
Thank you so much for the wonderful video - and I also have to say that yours is, unless I'm mistaken on the design, the first Geogradient that I have really liked!! Beautiful work!
Thank you for watching 💖
Nicely done video! Thank you.
Bless you!! My friend and i have come to the same conclusion... people who own the sheep and alpacas don't ever have enough time to seperate locks and process fleeces like you do... only people who aren't raising the critters have enough time to spend on so much processing
Thank you 😊 For sure! The lock by lock method takes soooo much time I couldn’t imagine doing it that way with multiple fleeces. I would probably keep 1 fleece and send the rest to process at a mill if I were raising them 😄 do you raise sheep and alpaca? Super cool!!!!
This was my first real wool tutorial video and you made this so easy to follow! A natural teacher! New subbie !
Thank you so much 😊💙
subscribed within 3 seconds !
Loved watching you spin, such a calming voice...keep videos coming... BLM!
Thanks for sharing your process!! this is really motivating me to dig into my fleece stash!
You are so welcome! I’m so glad 😀
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I've been considering getting into spinning and the idea of taking it all the way from the fleece to the finished product is very compelling but i have a lot to learn before i can even begin to consider starting.
💖 you’re welcome! Definitely start with some prepared fiber and a drop spindle that would be way less intimidating. It took me like 8 ounces of wool to get consistent with the process. The woolery sells this fiber called Heinz 67 (a blend of lots of wool) that’s excellent when you’re first starting because it’s not as expensive. I hope you start spinning ☺️ it’s truly addicting and so relaxing once you’re past the learning curve
If you're just starting out, the Falkland from RH Lindsay is quite a good deal (all their stuff is great priced) and then if you end up not liking spinning, it's great for wet felting xD
I LOVE raw wool though, and think spinning your own processed wool always feels extra special

I’m so excited to watch this!
Already loving how you are coming with the facts and info.
This was so cool to see Escarla! I love seeing the start to finish but it definitely is tedious! 😅 You did a great job.
Woo hoo! Thank you for watching, haha i definitely prepared for this one. But it will be a while until I process it all 😅
This was so incredibly fascinating to watch! I’ve seen this process on other videos but your video made me feel like we were just spending the day nerding out over yarn! ♥️♥️♥️
I used to dye wool yarn I found on eBay with Kool-Aid back in the day (2005) and watching you thwacking brought back memories!
I definitely am the Black Sheep of my family!😂😂😂
hiii! thank you so much!! i'm so glad you felt that way 💕i love that, kool-aid for dyeing is underrated. BLACK SHEEP UNITE 😁
I appreciate the time and hard work you put into making this video. Great job on your handspun!
Hey queen!! Thank youuuu. Glad you see the amount of effort 😮💨💖
Thank you so much for sharing your entire process! I really appreciate all the details from your research to showing us the different types of locks to the finished yarn. It was so fun to see everything from start to finish!
Thank you so much!! I tried to include everything I’m always curious about 😊 I’m glad you enjoyed it.
wow, that's so much work! obviously the processing the fleece, but also your editing skills are a huge inspiration 💓
Thank you so much 😊❤
Yay!! Hey girl! Loving that shawl! Love the content for this video. Thank you so much for sharing! ❤
Thanks girlie 🥰 I’m so glad you loved it!
This was such an awesome video! 🧡
Thank you so much 😊💗
I love this video so much!!! Thank you for sharing with the rest of us! It's really fun to watch your method and what your results are. 😊
Yay! Thank you❣️ I can't wait to make something with the yarn when I finish it all. Appreciate you 😊
I found your channel for the first time today. Superb tutorial! Wonderful listening to you, too.
Welcome welcome! Thank you so much 💚
This video is SO COOL!😍
THANK YOU 😁💃
Finally finishing this one! You’ve inspired me to pick up my knitting tonight. ❤
yay!! that makes me happy 🧶can't wait to see your chained oblivion!
Oh my, I would never have the patience to go through this process, but (or maybe therefore) this was so so interesting to watch! I’m so thankful you took the time to show this
Lol it’s a lot of work but it makes you love the yarn like never before. Hope you have a great weekend 💗
Wow- beautiful yarn! Thanks for filming the whole process, I’ve washed my roo’d shetland fleece and now am inspired to get going on the rest!
Thanks so much for watching!! Yay, I’m glad I could inspire you to continue. Haha fleeces take so much energy 😂
yay! another video :)
🥰🤎
Enjoyed watching your process and spinning/finishing techniques. Love to keep learning!
Thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed :D
What a lovely video! Thanks for showing the whole process! 🥰 I really want to start spinning and eventually working my way backwards all the way to processing a fleece 🐑
Thank you so much 🙏🏽 Yessss that’s how I got hooked. Drop spindle, then wheel, then a yearly fleece. I hope you start learning soon ☺️
@@escarla I’m still at the drop spindle stage, hopefully I will graduate to a wheel soon ;)
It looks so soft! I love the little
curls. I’ve never touched wool in this state. #goals
Hehe it’s soft and woolly. Hope you get to try it out one day!
hi babes - just subscribed🥰💕
HI PEARL 💗😘 cause it’s the juuuiceee 🧃thank you for subbing 🥹 I’m so happy you’re back on the tube!!
We have four Shetland/Hebridean cross sheep on our smallholding. I started knitting last year but I've never spun before. We just had the sheep sheared and two of the fleeces are only fit for mulch but the other two look pretty good - one black, the other moorit with blaeget markings. I've been thinking about having a go at spinning for a while and a friend has lent me one of her spinning wheels so I'm going to give it a try. I'm not sure where I'll find the time but I suppose I'll squeeze it in somehow! I'm thinking about socks maybe, if the wool is hardwearing enough? Otherwise, maybe a shawl of some sort? Hmm ...
Why that fleece look like my natural hair, tho?? Another great podcast! Learned a lot! 💗
Lmaoo I was thinking the same thing the whole time. I was blending into the background of the thumbnail 😂
Your videos are such great quality! If you don’t mind me asking, what do you film on? And what editing software do you recommend? I like that you crochet and you also seem like a tech lover! Thank you love your vids !
Thank you!!! I use my Lumix S5 with mostly the Lumix S fixed 50mm lens and I use premiere pro to edit 😁
Hey! When weighing you have to count the washingbag you weighed it in before too. Weighing after washing you forgot to count that in so that 60gr is probably mostly that bag is my guess
Yes!! I was more of stickler with my first few fleeces but I don’t consider the bag weight much. They’re incredibly light.
This is lovely!!! Where did you get your spinning wheel? it looks gorgeous!
Thanks for watching! I got it from the woolery several years ago. The price has increased quite a bit since 😢
This is so relaxing. ☺ Question. Can I spin my knitts in the salad spinner (after first wash, before blocking), or would it felt/ loose stitch definition? I know: I am supposed to be gentle to wet woolly goods, but it looked so satisfying.
Thank you!! Yes, absolutely. Things will only ever felt if you change water temps from hot to cold and then agitate. I use the salad spinner with all garments that fit.
Actually the lower the micron is the finer the wool
Haha yesss after posting I certainly shook my head at myself 😅
