I was really tired when I was finishing this one off so please ignore the two glaringly obvious editing mistakes near the end of the video lol. Anyways I hope you enjoy it!
@@stayathomedad2070 not everyone will necessarily benefit two cameras for what they do and you depending on what you have it may not make sense to sell something and then buy a different camera like the FX30, but I have been very much enjoying the combination of the two for my work.
I don't do sports videography, but because your video is so detailed and at the same time simple to understand you have earned a subscription from me. My main camera is an A7IV and I agree with you on the versatility and I believe that's the main reason people by this camera. Also I will be scrubbing through your videos and maybe sports videography is something I can try out.
Thank you, I appreciate the compliment and am glad to have you around the channel! Although the channel uses sports videography as a point of reference for a lot of what I talk about there is lots of content for general camera enthusiasts as well so I hope you’re able to enjoy!
Picked up an A74 this summer. Thought I was home free with heat issues, being able to make it through football games without a problem, getting b-roll the whole time, pre and post interviews. Winter rolls around and now, indoors, my camera started melting in the gym for basketball/wrestling/etc. at 4K60. Even after doing all the heat management tricks, I still have to shut down during half and go out into New York weather to air the thing out. I don't regret going my route but I'll probably be saving for an FX30 as a second camera over my next expensive lens or gimbal or what have you.
Great point about the overheating and consistency with the Sony a7-4, this is why I opted to get the FX30 because of the more consistent operation without overheating and less Jello effect, although I realize this is because of the smaller sensor in that camera.
Greetings, this was an insightful video for me. I have purchased the FX-30 and own an a7 3. The FX30 lends itself to a more production or cinematic application of a camera unit, while I think the a7 4 and my a7-3 go along the lines for more videography. I was just surprised when you did your interviews that the FX30 with much better audio control didn't factor in to your opinion on this. I do like the concept of the a74 but with the inconsistency with the overheating issues, be they intermittent with various people, and the really noticeable jello effect when panning the camera or a fast moving object in the camera frame. But I do like the A7-4 as a good hybrid camera although I might have to consider the A7-5 was well.
personally i got an a7iii and although yes it’s valid for photography I feel like it’s a tad bit out dated with the video features, don’t get me wrong for photography a7iii is still top tier but I do believe that the fx30 would help me tons more with video jobs. Love the video bro🫶🏾
I have a question. I create my videos using premier pro. Recently I created a video on premier pro and it came out great. So, I uploaded the video to google drive and it still played perfect until I downloaded to my phone. I pressed play and it played great for about 5secs and then the whole video went into super slo motion. Please help me. How do I fix this ?
Definitely want to add an FX30 but for me the A7IV with full frame sensor is a better option for my sports use and stadiums. 4K120 on the FX30 would be at ISO 6400 or much higher in the sports environments I shoot in. With basketball and a 2.8 lens I can shoot at 3200 ISO which is the second native ISO and the image is so clean.
I need an A7IV with a fan, it gets really really hot in the summer where I live but I don’t want to sacrifice for the low light capabilities to switch over to the FX30, I guess I have to save for an A7SIII or an FX3
This was super helpful thank you!!! I’m surprised I didn’t notice the rolling shutter when running with the kiddo. I kinda need the semi mechanical shutter for flash photography in the a7cii thst the zvE1 doesn’t have
What’s up Peter, I have an a7iii and it’s great for pictures I have a sigma 24-70 and Sony 70-200 f4 I’m deciding between a7iv and fx30 and I do social media content and sports videos , you think it’s more worth it to just get the fx30 since I have the a7iii and it pretty much can handle everything with content and pictures?
That’s a tough decision because it depends what the lighting looks like in the environments you film in as the FX30 won’t be as good with low light as the A7IV. It’s kind of a trade off between high frame rate recording and low light performance.
I have the overheating temp set to high and have never had a shutoff due to overheating and have only seen the temperature warming on the screen once so my experience with it in this regard has been pretty good
@@petersarellas ok I hit ya with one more question lol it’s on a different comment … I’m a Panasonic user of 10 years and I currently use the S1h but I’m tired of no auto focus I really want the FX six, but as you know, the S1H has amazing stabilization … I know you don’t get that with the FX six and I do a whole lot of running gun. I’ve got about 2600 to spend and I’m looking at all three of these. I have been feening for 120 P so that’s why the FX 30 look good but I’m also not trying to have my quality looking lesser than anyone else’s and even if you have adequate lighting if it doesn’t clean up good at 2500 from which I’ve seen during the test on the FX 30 I’m now I’m trying to choose between the -a74 and a7siii
If I’m going to do some hybrid - say 70/30 in favor of video but want photo - can these cameras be used to grab stills from video and if so could they be printed ?
Yes they can. I recently made a video about myself grabbing stills from my favourite videos and framing them up. My experience doing so with the output from these cameras was very good and you can check that video out for more reference.
Thanks for touching on the mode dial! That’s one thing I’ve been trying to find out with the fx30, is how easy it would be to switch between different memory recalls, as I do weddings and regularly switch between 25fps, 50fps and 100fps and on the A7iv it’s a simple flick of a switch. With the fx30, if I was already in say memory recall 1, would it be a case of pressing the mode button, clicking down once and then enter to get into memory recall 2? So in other words, when you go back into the mode screen, does it stay at the position you are currently in or default back to the first option and I’d have to scroll down all the way to get to memory recall 2 each time? Sounds like a small gripe but speed on a wedding day can be crucial! Thanks!
Pretty sure it stays in position so when you click back to that menu it will start on the memory recall preset that you’re already using and you can move from there
Any overheating issues with recording on the a7v? Have an fx30 and looking to make the jump to a7v to add photos back to my workflow but primarily focused on video. I shoot basketball and record clips consecutively
I’ve heard of some people complaining about overheating but I keep the flip out screen removed from the body when shooting and set the overheat temp to “high” and have never had it overheat on me
I don't quite agree. The shots shown in the interview part are not comparable. Contrasts, lighting and many other factors are making a significant difference between the two cameras.
Yeah honestly I couldn’t really find a good two shots that I wanted to use to compare so the examples aren’t perfect, but in general they’re both decent interview cameras with the A7IV having an edge from my experiences working with them both
@@petersarellas I congratulate you for the video anyway! Do you still consider that to make talking head videos (as it can be on TH-cam), there would be an appreciable difference between both cameras? This assuming that the lighting would be exactly the same.
@@diegogarcan biggest difference would be the crop factor so you’d have to use wider lenses on the fx30 to get the same frame, but quite honestly cameras are so good nowadays that if you light a shot well it will look good with almost any modern mirrorless or cinema camera
@@petersarellas Yes of course! I also have a zv e10 and it looks great, and while in a controlled environment it might look like a professional camera, there is still a significant difference when compared to an A7SIII, FX3 or FX30. As you say, removing the crop factor and the depth of field, I consider that the quality of the image, the color and so on, is practically the same. So I think for TH-cam videos in a studio it would make more sense to go with the FX30 in most cases.

BTW 240fps HD FX30 is sweet also. It can be upscaled in a 4K timeline. Same as the un cropped HD 120fps
True! Didn’t even touch on the HD 240fps. If you got enough light for it that’d look pretty sweet.
