    I agree with the two problems you've highlighted with the Cavalex 56 Mick. The kinematic couplings are a problem on many locos, especially the Hornby class 60, where I ended up gluing a fixed coupler to the bogie frame instead to cure it from sticking and derailing the attached wagon. The Kinematic system simply doesn't work reliably under the load of long realistic length rakes, as you and I both run. The manufactures should return to the bogie mounted NEM sockets across all rollingstock. Regards Julian

      Thanks Julian for watching the channel. At last some one who agrees with me that these couplings can be a pain. I agree they should go back to the old way. All the best. Mick

      @@michaelsmith-hn1cn Hi Micheal I agree regarding kinematics however there are 10 times as many people who are also adamant that they want them. Its a no win situation. We have revised the design moving forward however to hopefully improve the way that they operate.

      @michaelsmith-hn1cn  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree. If you have a average size layout they most likely work but when pulling a long rake of coach's or wagons they don't because the weight is pulling on the return spring and does allow it to centre up.. Mick@@outonroad

      @@outonroadHi Cav, it is certainly difficult to keep everyone happy. Maybe some sort of mechanism to lock the Kinamatic central would work? Question is how.....
      I also run long rakes and have to say they do cause a lot of derailments- however in my case all the wagons I use also have kinematics too!

      Hello guys I’m the same as you with the first wagon/coach being pulled off the track either up or down grade, so I started putting more weight in the front wagon, seems to cure it. My American locos with body mounted couplers (Kadee) have no problems with a lot longer trains

    Fantastic layout and running session. Personally Im not keen on scale weighted wagons as you're putting a lot of wear on the loco motors and gears. Id imagine the heavily weighted and long trains may lead to earlier expected failure of the drive train and \ or motor.

      Thanks . I take your comment on board. I don't filled the wagons completely , I put a bit of foam in the bottom first. I have been lucky so far with no problems. If i think they struggle I double head. Thanks for your comment. Take care. Mick

    Hi Mick, I agree with you on the pulling power of the Cavalex 56 I bought mine to pull 15 TEA Tanker wagons on my inclines it stops with the wheel slipping not to impressed my Bachmann class 90s with BO BO Bogeys pulls the 15 TEAs no problem I think Cavalex should have all wheel drive cheers Al

    • @outonroad
      @outonroad 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Can you please stop spreading mis-infomation. There is nothing wrong with the class 56 drive system and if you were having issues as you keep saying then its because your loco had a problem. Instead of jumping on the 4 axle drive because you had a bee in you bonnet about it how about contacting us to have a look at the loco and sort the issue out.

    • @michaelsmith-hn1cn
      @michaelsmith-hn1cn  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Al. Yes Cavalex should gone all drive, to me they have let down a fantastic loco. Thanks for the comment. Mick

    • @michaelsmith-hn1cn
      @michaelsmith-hn1cn  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did not slag the loco off, I said it was a fantastic loco but on my railway the kinematic couplings do not like heavy stock on them. They do not center up after taking a curve because of the weight on the return spring. Has I mentioned this happens with Hornby and Dapol. Also it does wheel slip with a load behind it as shown on the video. I will in future increase the speed or double head. All drive would have helped and that's my opinion and there is nothing wrong with the drive train on the loco. Mick

    • @outonroad
      @outonroad 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@michaelsmith-hn1cnI wasn't referring to your comments but the person who I replied to. He has a bee in his bonnet about all wheel drive but that was not the issue he had. 4 axle drive has as much if not more tractive effort than all wheel drive. If your loco is not performing then you need to get in touch with Cavalex as these locos are very strong pullers. We did a test against a Hornby all wheel drive 56 and the Cavalex one destroyed it.

      @@outonroad I’m not spreading mis-information just saying it won’t pull 15 of your TEA tankers up my slight incline and if you had a phone number I would talk to you cheers Al

      Hi John. I had a friend around to help, after hours of insulating the tracks at various points, my friend asked what was controlling the turn table. I said I had a polarity module. He suggested I disconnect it. Bingo that was it. Thanks for asking. Mick

      Hello Tom & Rebekah. The Royal mail end is 14 ft or 4.27m and the other end is 10ft or 3.5m. Track plan on video 53 or 87. I have changed slightly around building sight, look at the video showing you what I did. Sorry can't remember video Number. All the best. Mick

    Mick @ time 31.49 loco coupling not siting correctly on wagon coupling could that be the issue of de-railment . Cheers Paul

    • @michaelsmith-hn1cn
      @michaelsmith-hn1cn  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes that is the cause, because the kinmatic couplings don't return to the center after each curve because of the pull on the springs. Mick.
