I've been playing 35 years and collected a lot of guitars, I sold most and bought one of these. I couldn't believe how much I was spending, but holy hell, its the most versatile ,playable guitar I've ever had, worth every penny! You can get any tone you need with playing with the volume and tone, if you love a les Paul, get one, you will not regret it.
I second that your comment as I have an epiphone honey burst les paul as well as an epiphone 59 heritage cherry burst I also own an eastcoast bourbon burst les paul as well as 2 harley benton les Paul's a black beauty and a lemon drop
Yeah, I just got my first '59 VOS Les Paul a few months ago. It's all that and a bag of chips. I love all of my Les Pauls but this one is extra special.
I know this is an older video but I just tried one out 2022, all I can say is the hype is real, I was stunned and almost bought one for $9000 CDN but came to my senses! I was hypnotized and almost did it...I will save up , sell some gear and one day will buy one!
I went to a guitar shop to test a few new LP Standards and of the three, one was OK but nothing to write home about. Then I tested a 58 & 59 CS VOS and was blown away… the difference was like a VW Golf and an AMG Mercedes. The price difference is absolutely worth it when it comes to the CS models, imho. I absolutely agree… be patient, save a little longer but get the instrument you will want to keep and play for a lifetime.
I own 2 epiphone les paul guitars one in honey burst and a 59 heritage cherry burst and im just unable to put them down when playing either one i just feel its part of me there such a joy ti play though there both from epiphone
I just ordered a Murphy Lab 59 VOS Les Paul Standard - Factory Burst. I can't wait to get that thing in my hands! I should probably run out and get some adult nappies so I can be fully prepared for when I play it for the first time!
Differences between a Gibson USA Standard production Les Paul and a Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul include: (Standard have a two piece mahogany body glued together v Custom have a one piece mahogany body), (Standard use modern wood glue v Custom use Hide glue), (Standard truss rod is surrounded by a tube affecting neck resonance v Custom has no tube surrounding the truss rod and more care is taken with the truss rod cavity), (a better quality of wood is used in Customs usually resulting in a lighter weight), (a different, higher quality receipe mixture is used for the Custom Nitro as compared with the Standard), ( the Standard used a short Tenon Set neck v the Custom has a Long Set neck Tenon joint which enables better sustain), (Standard uses Burstbucker Humbuckers v Custom uses Custombuckers), (The Standard Bridge has an adjustment screw that goes into a basic metal post into which the adjustment screw goes into - this negatively affects vibration of saddles v the Custom adjustment screws go directly into the wood and higher grade aluminium tailpiece and Brass saddles are used), (Standard electronics are orange drop capacitors v Custom electronics are Paper Oil Bumblebee Capacitors leading to a more varied Tone adjustment).
Remember that prices aren't that expensive if u compare back in 60s Paul's were about $850.00 USD but minimum wage was like $1.29 a hour so it's all relevant, so to say. I just bought one! Love the neck!
To me, the most iconic and coolest guitars on the planet are a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Telecaster. Jimmy Page fooled us for years because in some ways they can sound similar. My first love is the Les Paul then a close second is the Tele. I can pick up either one and not miss a beat. I can't afford the holy grail of even that VOS one. I would love either one though. I can hear the sustain even when you were not playing it lol.
Dagan, thanks for this posting, I have seen a lot of videos reviewing this guitar and this is one of my favorites. I recently got an R9 in VOS Royal Tea Burst, the feel and sound is beyond of what is being described. I think this is worth the price.
I tried one of these out last week and i totally get what you are experiencing, they are magnificent instruments, yes at $6600, you would expect no less but my mind was blown also, the best I have played. I have a number of Gibsons, but sadly no custom shop models. Some of them will be going shortly to help finance the purchase of a ‘59 VOS reissue asap!👍👍
Update! I am selling most of my guitars to get a 59' or 58' Custom Shop Les Paul. I was lucky enough to play an original 54' Les Paul Goldtop with the original p-90's in them. Yes, the magic is real. Even that said, I will be going with the 58' or 59' with the custom buckers. Great video! that guitar is killer in every way.
i want one and i have the money but, i also already have 2 gibson les pauls which i love so i feel like i cant really justify buying one for that kind of money. a firebird would probably come next on my list to get eventually if i can find one.
You *can* get right up to the dusty end on a Les Paul - you just need to be sat down! (Or prop a leg up on a monitor) I’d love to try one of these to see how it compares to my 1990 LP Custom (completely amazing and will never part with)
I got mine from PMT Bristol in 2016. My dad was brilliant enough to get it for me as an 18th birthday present. I've loved it ever since. Theres a whole video on my channel for the story, and of course, the guitar porn if anyone is interested
I have one of the 60th Anniversary R9’s. I’m gonna be honest, most modern day players are gonna prefer the Standard 60’s USA production LP. Why? These R9’s got BIG OL’ FAT huge necks (compared to most modern neck carves) and the Custom Buckers are VERY bright, being low wind and unpotted AIII’s, I mean BRIGHT, like THE true tele-on-steroids sound. It’s THAT classic 60’s early 70’s vintage rock sound, but NOT the more modern LP thick crunch most players think of when they think Les Paul. Also, being unpotted they can get a little squeally at high gain high volumes. But if you’re really REALLY chasing THAT vintage sound, these will get you there. Otherwise leave ‘em for the collectors, save a shit ton of cash, and get one of the new USA 50’s/60’s Standards. These new USA line Standards are DAMN GOOD, I prefer mine to my CS R9 (for most applications).
I have a 60th anniversary 1960 LP and have played the epiphone one… and while the epiphone is undoubtedly the best epiphone les Paul I’ve ever played… it’s NO WHERE close… there’s just something about the FEEL of the CS historic reissues… Before you even HEAR the difference… the feel is quite different. Blindfolded in your hands the Historic feels organic and the Epiphone feels very sterile and cold… weird to try to articulate actually. But there’s a tangible difference in every way. Even acoustically they sounds light years apart to me.
Don't get me wrong, the Epiphone 59 les paul is a freaking beast of a guitar! I know cuz I bought one lol and it truly is a great looking and amazing sounding les Paul. But this is the holy grail of guitars period! And it looks and especially, sounds like the holy grail lol.And it's more like 1/6 the price to be honest with you.i don't think it's gonna sounds 6 times better, but this guitar is gonna have the sound, the look, and the feel to exact specifications as an original 59 les paul. Which is why it's twice the price as a Gibson Les Paul standard🙂
I actually own both the 59 epiphone…it’s a really great guitar for the money…comparing it to my 2007 Vos lemonburst R9…nah…just nah……The feel of the custom shop is like a warm bath just perfect ..the epi..is just stiff..in a sense…Hower the epiphone the appointments with bb 2 and 3..pickups CT’s pots..Mallory cap…hey can’t ask for a better bang for buck…It took me years to finally get a R9 and used at that…but it was on my bucket list……
Honestly, I think the 58 sounds every bit as good. I could care less about Murphy aged or flame tops that jack the price up. I hear the 59 pick ups are a bit higer output though I can't hear it. Gibson jumps on the band wagon for any excuse to jack the price up. Jimmy Page played a 59.... let's jack the price up. I'm sorry I don't get the murphy age thing I can age my own guitar with my own belt buckle and save a stack of cash. Idk I'm gonna order the 58 custom shop vos plain top from guitar center & if if it's not the best guitar I've ever played, they can have it back. The 45 day guarantee is the only way in hell I'd ever buy a guitar I couldn't play 1rst. Unfortunately in the city I'm in, there's no new custom shops to try b4 u buy. I guess we'll see how good Gibsons quality control is. Seems a bit of a crap shoot but if I can return it, how can I loose? I know as with all guitars there's likely 1 in 20 that's a true ringer. Best bet is to play it b4 u buy it. I've heard that most Les Paul custom shops sound great, I guess I shall find out. 5000 is still alot for a 58 plain top but im in it for the sound 1rst & then the looks. If you can't play worth a damned, a custom shops not gonna make you sound any better. That's the funny thing all these collectors that are half ass players and still drop the cash for a flame top that makes them sound no better as a player. No way would I drop a thousand more dollars for a year 59 as opposed to a 58 if there's no notable difference in sound. Having said all that, I can clearly hear more clarity in the custom shop Gibsons than the standards not that the standards sound bad but if your gonna only own one Gibson, why not pay the extra cash to get that added tone that the custom shops clearly have?
How come when I look to buy a great Gibson custom shop guitar like the one you have in this video... That there is none that looks as good as yours? I've gone to Sweetwater, American Musical, Musician Friends, ect. And they all look like crap, but want $5,000.00 to $19,900.00 Anybody got any suggestions where I can find one that looks as good as what the guy in this video is playing?
I've been saving my gig money for the past year and a half and I'm £400 off (3 gigs) from getting one. I'm no banker and it will be getting stage time multiple times a week!
Maybe switch the format to just talking specs and details about guitars. The playing demos are just an annoying waste of time because you tube compression makes every guitar sound the same
What he said. And there are serious differences between the originals and these guitars. I know because I have two 60th anniversary versions. Top carve is way wrong.
I've been playing 35 years and collected a lot of guitars, I sold most and bought one of these.

Dagan was enjoying playing so much there has to be enough video for a sequel. Which I would gladly watch.
I know this is an older video but I just tried one out 2022, all I can say is the hype is real, I was stunned and almost bought one for $9000 CDN but came to my senses! I was hypnotized and almost did it...I will save up , sell some gear and one day will buy one!

One of the most standard and best Les Paul models 👍
It's really hard not to play Paradise City when you switch to the neck pickup on a Les Paul, isn't it? Truly amazing guitar btw!
Yessir!
The binding on my 2007 SG over the last few years is starting to turn pink. I love it.
I own 2 epiphone les paul guitars one in honey burst and a 59 heritage cherry burst and im just unable to put them down when playing either one i just feel its part of me there such a joy ti play though there both from epiphone

This CS 59'er is to die for! I would gladly pay $7K for this if i had that kind of cash for a guitar.
I appreciate you demoing this with clean and overdrive.
This is my Dream guitar

And after all that they both play and sound the same.
@@paulsmyth508 have you compared both side by side?
A beautiful guitar, and one day soon, I'll be buying one!
Yes, I agree. I hope for the same for me.
Remember that prices aren't that expensive if u compare

You are awesome and I LOVE that you play metal with these demos screw playing jazz show off music I want to hear the tones we play!
Billy Gibbons! Have to love his style

Got a 2017 R9 from Wildwood Guitars. It is an amazing guitar. Plays so nice and the pickups are killer. Well worth the $$$
Dagan, thanks for this posting, I have seen a lot of videos reviewing this guitar and this is one of my favorites. I recently got an R9 in VOS Royal Tea Burst, the feel and sound is beyond of what is being described. I think this is worth the price.
The best sound of all the MV that I ever seen on this channel

Do you play USA LP standards? Curious how the neck on the 50s standards compare to the 59 and 58 custom shops LPs.
I've got a 2020 Model of the same Paula... and its a Hell of a Guitar...
Dagan...one of your best Videos so far.... nice Tones...
Sooo good I went out and bought one! (cause it doesn't quite sound like that when I play it 😂)🤘
I bought one back in 2012 thinking I would flip it. Then I played it. I still have it
I would gladly pay five grand for that if I had five grand.
Update! I am selling most of my guitars to get a 59' or 58' Custom Shop Les Paul. I was lucky enough to play an original 54' Les Paul Goldtop with the original p-90's in them. Yes, the magic is real. Another great video!
Great Video! I Have This In The Golden Poppy Burst-It Is Incredible And Worth Every Cent!
Amazing! Great demonstration Dagan! 🤘🏼
Gotta love the Blackstar amp, it sounds awesome
Jesus Lord, I'd kill for that guitar.
JUst a FYI< Gibsin did NOT use "HIde glue" on the old Les pauls.
They used Phenol Formaldehyde to the glue the maple tops.
i want one and i have the money but, i also already have 2 gibson les pauls which i love so i feel like i cant really justify buying one for that kind of money. a firebird would probably come next on my list to get eventually if i can find one.
I’m saving to get a custom shop 59.
The holy trinity page/ kossoff /Moore. These are the only three I listen to.
Shame, you're missing some fine LP playing.
You *can* get right up to the dusty end on a Les Paul - you just need to be sat down! (Or prop a leg up on a monitor)
I’d love to try one of these to see how it compares to my 1990 LP Custom (completely amazing and will never part with)
I’ll take two to go! 😁
👍
Lad can rock for sure

What about that Sambora signature Kramer on the wall…?

Love the guitar, but im more of a Dirty lemon burst guy.
Hey, do anyone know what's the model of the brown (wood-ish?) guitar on the back?
An old Kramer he removed the paint from. I think there is a video in his Kramer Custom
@@danielcook3361 Thanks mate
Up to eleven)
How does it stack up beside the Epiphone '59 Les Paul Standard? Besides the Epi being roughly a third of the price, I mean.
