    That man who said about wins and loses is Man City’s real coach Pep Guardiola. He’s one of the best (if not the best) football coaches right now. And he just won the Premier League for the third time in a row. That’s why Ted and Beard were so excited
    Upd: he just won the treble with ManCity

    Anyone else notice that Jamie got injured during a heroic defensive play - JUST LIKE ROY?
    Also... When Ted asked Jamie what he would say if he could to his Dad, Jamie's answers were 1. "Fuck you" and 2. "Thank You". JUST LIKE TED says to his mom later in the episode!!!

    When Mae is talking about how parents fuck you up, she's actually reciting a poem by Philip Larkin called, "This Be The Verse":
    They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
    They may not mean to, but they do.
    They fill you with the faults they had
    And add some extra, just for you.
    But they were fucked up in their turn
    By fools in old-style hats and coats,
    Who half the time were soppy-stern
    And half at one another’s throats.
    Man hands on misery to man.
    It deepens like a coastal shelf.
    Get out as early as you can,
    And don’t have any kids yourself.

    Beard giving Nate a headbutt is also a callback: When Nate admitted to kissing Keileigh, but didn't admit to outing Ted's panic attacks, he asked Roy to headbutt him. Roy refused, but Beard said, "I'd be happy to headbutt you."

    There is an absolutely ridiculous number of Wizard of Oz references in the show. From the very, very first episode. (“Coach, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.”) The pinball machine (which was in s2 as well), which cuts to Rebecca's red-soled shoes. One of side banners on the pitch during a match said "No place like home." The movie last episode playing Over The Rainbow. Ted referencing the Wicked Witch when talking about Beard and Roy wanting to murder Henry's bully. The yellow (lego) brick under Ted's chair. The biscuits being yellow bricks, if you want to stretch that far. Heck, Roy's tie-dye shirt looks exactly like the spiral at the beginning of the yellow brick road!!
    I thought of the parallell that Jamie's the scarecrow (needed brains), Nate is the lion (needed courage), and Roy is the tin man (needed a heart). And Ted is the wizard who helped them find it, even though they had it in themselves all along. (The wizard also not originally being from Oz, and bumbled his way into becoming their leader anyway.) And the wizard says, "I'm a very good man. I'm just a very bad wizard." Just like Ted isn't that great a coach, but he's a great man.
    (Ted is simultaneously Dorothy, which obviously makes Beard Toto.)

    In case it hasn't already been mentioned, the scene where Roy & Keeley follow Jamie through the streets of Manchester features a blue moon - which is a reference to the official Man City song, "Blue Moon" - that we also hear the fans singing pre-match.

    If Phil doesn't get at LEAST a nom, there is no justice in the world! He's been amazing all season (well, all series!), but this episode in particular. There are some choices I disagree with - chiefly, playing the boot room scene for comedy and the whole thing with his dad - but overall it was great I thought. The scenes with his mom nearly made me cry. You can definitely tell where Jamie got his sweetness from, and what a contrast those two are to Ted and his mom, or Rebecca and hers. Gotta love a mama's boy XD And can we get a shoutout for stepdad Simon? He's SO Ted-like. Kudos to Georgie for finding herself a good'un after the horror that was James.
    As you said, I could see the show going the ambiguous route for ships. Simultaneously making no one happy (no ships for anyone!) and everyone happy (all ships are possible). I have my choice of ships for the characters, but I'd much rather everyone be single than have a ship I don't like be canon lol.

    • @ulfsam-mule-son9726
      @ulfsam-mule-son9726 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't think the boot room scene was played for comedy as much as comedy was used to try and lighten what otherwise would have been a VERY heavy Jamie-in-despair moment. He had been so affectless up to that point that the outpouring of dark thoughts would have been maybe too much. Certainly had me fighting my eye allergies regardless. What do you mean the 'whole thing with his dad'? Rehab is a bad thing? Confused. [There is also the darker interpretation that his Dad is in the afterlife watching the game.]

    • @laurelf.2057
      @laurelf.2057 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@ulfsam-mule-son9726 Edit: Disclaimer that this is just my opinion.
      Well, that's the thing. Jamie is a comedic character 90% of the time and the emotions and thoughts he was going through in this episode, particularly at that point before the visit with his mom, that I think they should have been played straight. You can still get little bits of comedy in there, like the conditioner line or Roy being freaked out, but I didn't like that it wasn't taken very seriously.
      With his dad, the YT comment section isn't the place to get into that sort of discussion, so I don't want this to be a Thing, but for me, I'm very very tired of the "you have to forgive your abuser" narrative. Because you absolutely do not. With all the horrific things James did to his son, I think it would have been a powerful message to send to have Jamie move on *without* forgiving him. At the very least to not reach out to reconnect. If James goes to rehab, great, but the implication that that makes him a good person and that Jamie needs to forgive him and reach out I really hated.

    • @aimeeparrott9204
      @aimeeparrott9204 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nobody told Jamie to reach out. That was ALL him. The forgiveness suggestion came from Ted because it would be good for Jamie to let go of that anger. Speaking as someone who comes from an abusive family, I think it's very healing to get to a place of forgiveness. It doesn't mean you need to let the abuser back into your life and I don't think the show was implying that at all.

    • @ulfsam-mule-son9726
      @ulfsam-mule-son9726 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@laurelf.2057 Well obv, and what I posted was just my opinion. All good. 🙂 Sounds like you might have a personal connection to the whole forgiveness question, and I certainly can't & wouldn't contradict you because we don't have the same experiences. I do think forgiveness for the emotional well-being of the victim is a pretty time-tested idea. MLK, Gandhi, and wise spiritual leaders going back beyond recorded human history have mostly been unanimous on that front. Which isn't to say that I have been able to accomplish it myself, but I do see it as a goal that I hope I can attain some day. Forgiveness of an abuser is really the only way for the victim to let it all go and stop allowing it to impact their current life and future. Otherwise the abuser is still in the victim's head and interfering with the victim's chances to live their best life. So forgiveness really is for the victim - it is how they defeat the attempts of an abuser to control/influence them forever.

    • @joeypotter6051
      @joeypotter6051 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm with you on the boot room scene. It was a shame that it was played so overly comedic, I'd have preferred it to be more intense. I kinda understand why they did it that way, for the pacing and balance of the episode, but still. I feel like mostly this show leans into a more British humour but every now and then the more OTT American style comes through and those are the scenes I like less. But I adored Jamie and his mum together.

    The mother of the kindest man I have ever met. Everybody is eating kababs from when Will Isaac and Colin went to Taste of Athens.
    Man City cheering for Jamie.
    His dad in rehab.
    Whatever the whisper was from Roy.
    The Pep talk is the reason I coached (another sport) for 20+ years.
    I think this show is brilliant because so many of us have lived many of these points to be who we are now.
    Jamie sending his dad a text.
    Ted looking in like a proud a dad at JT/Roy/Keely.
    The beard monolog. Ungh
    I love how simple the Nate's facial expressions are so good. He is a fantastic actor too.
    The F-U T-U convo was absolute tears for a grown ass man.

    Love your reactions, as always. I am not ready for the finale tonight.
    Jamie's dad going to rehab was not what I had on my bingo card for this season, but seeing that hit me like a ton of bricks. It makes sense why nobody would have heard from him since some rehab facilities don't let residents bring their cell phones.
    Getting Beard's past explained why he's lived such a wild life and why he's so fiercely loyal to Ted but also pretty closed off and distant to everybody else (except for Jane, who maybe has lived a similar life making them such kindred spirits).
    Jade's sudden exit skills are on par with Batman.
    I also enjoyed Mae's reciting "This Be The Verse" by Phillip Larkin.

      Probably way off base here because the show has rarely done 'artsy' other than Ted's Amsterdam hallucination, but the quick shot of Jamie's Dad does look similar to how the afterlife has been presented in other shows and movies in the past.

    The mention of Les Misérables in the hallway scene with Nate and Beard is a great call back to season 1. In season 1 we learnt that Nate was involved in musical theatre in high school as the understudy for the role of Anita in West Side Story at his all-boys school.

    I have to say, emo Jamie is sooooo weird! I was thrilled that you got the Wizard of Oz/No place like home/Kansas connection on the first clue. I was born and raised in Kansas and I have heard Wizard of Oz comments my entire life so I notice references to it instantly. I'm having some doubts about a 4th season or a spinoff and the upcoming game vs. West Ham for the title I could see going either way. But Ted going back home to Kansas seems to be a lock, no matter what, and Beard would be conflicted by his loyalty to Ted, his love of Jane, and his pride in Richmond. The ideal head coach going forward is Roy - the one who sets the tone for the team and builds the culture. Nate as assistant - doing all the things Roy sucks at. Can't wait for the finale.

Jason Sudekis has said that they will do their end of the season writers room meet like always and if they have a good story idea to continue, then we will see more Ted. I may get in trouble for this, but: This episode explains everything about Jamie, from "Lust Conquers All" to teaching Roy how to ride a bike.
    9:55 I'm trying to decide if Barb is Keeley's version of Higgins, or Coach Beard.
    27:45 This is 'The Lasso Way'. He keeps Jamie on the field until he's got his swing back; but takes him off once he's scored the goal because that ankle needs tending to. Giving Jamie back his power is more important than saving him as a player for the next game.
    23:43 Higgins is traumatized from Zava.
    29:40 Ted is in even rarer form here. He knows what the problem is, but if he came out and said it, Beard would push back. Instead, he comes at it sideways; and Beard has to give the Lasso answer himself. Ted knew that would happen of course, but he was so carefully not saying it that even Beard couldn't call him on it.
    31:40: "If you bring that Judas back here, I will burn this place to the ground." Ted could have said "I could have said the same about you" on the spot. Instead he waited two days.

    Love your channel.
    Couple thoughts
    1. Jamie's mom is played by the niece of Pete Best, the original drummer of the Beatles before being replaced by Ringo.
    2. Pep, the Man City coach, was mentioned in Beard's video.
    3. Request: Since you are a former athlete, did you have a Ted Lasso or Beard or any other such characters during your athletic career.
    4. Watching several interviews, I didn't realize the Jamie-Roy-Keeley storyline is based on Bull Durham. If you haven't seen it, would you do a reaction video?
    5. We need to start a book club and we start with Trent's book.

    4 points behind is big, because now they’re one point behind with one game left. Even if losing that penultimate game, real world City wouldn’t bottle the last game. It’s happened too often. But this is TV, so you never know. I imagine someone’s last game will be against West Ham. Don’t know whose, and which game will have the last second goal that changes everything. Maybe Nate reveals the secret weakness that he’s placed at the heart of Rupert’s Death Star, and the winning goal will be scored by.... oh, let’s say that plain-speaking Dutchman.

    Instead of it being an example of Swiss neutrality, I took the reference to Bumbercatch being passionately anti-democratic as a commentary on the fact that Switzerland is a direct democracy, where in addition to electing their government representatives, they also have the right to vote on specific issues (and even mount an individual challenge to laws they disagree with). The people are in fact sovereign. Which means that democracy is a never-ending process there, which I suspect may weigh heavily on some people, and be enviable to others.

    3:38 The change in Ted's demeanor when his mom is around is more stark than a direwolf. 😁 And yeah, the jar thing is pretty nasty. 🤢

    I personally think that Nate quit because he realised that Rupert wasn't worthy of his respect anymore when he realised that Rupert was trying to actively torpedo Nate's relationship with Jade (or more accurately attempting to bring Nate down to his own philandering level). And if the approval he got from Rupert for his work was empty, then there was absolutely no joy in him working for West Ham. His triumph had all turned to ashes in his mouth. So he could either swallow these and continue to work there, or leave. Since the respect of a father figure was central to his psyche, he could only leave. Which is also why his first reaction to the embassy from the team was the hope that they had been sent by Ted, his football father, and the forgiveness for the prodigal that implied. Which is why the embassy from Ted's Shadow worked where the other didn't.

    There's something I've been wanting to talk about and I don't know where, so I'll just do it here. At the beginning of the season, everyone's predictions concerning Nate revolved around his job. He was gonna have successes, but also losses in account of his inability to connect with the team and inspire them. As a result, Rupert would end up firing him. But the show went into a completely different direction and practically ignored Nate at work and rather focused on his personal life. We've seen some conflict with Rupert, but again, it was regarding relationships, and not his performance as a coach. And it seems that West Ham is doing really well, so that must mean that Nate ended up being surprisingly good at his job.

    I feel so conflicted with this ending. On the one hand, I *hate* the implication of show ending with Ted going back to Kansas. He's made a _home_ here in London, he's seeing professional success like he never has before in his life, and he's moving on from his divorce and the ugly circumstances surrounding it. On the other hand, yeah, he knows all too well the impact a parent can have on their child's life and he needs to be there for Henry. I just hope Ted will have a good system in place back in Kansas for maintaining his mental health...

    Yes give Phil an Emmy!!!
    As for tomorrow's ending.
    As to the league, with it being one point of a difference. If Man City lose and Richmond draw they will be level on points and would go down to goal difference... Might be a bit much for the American crowd to get their head round... But could be interesting to end the season level on points with the champions and lose out due to not scoring enough during the season.
    Though i think this will play that way until half time and Nate will have the idea on how to get the upper hand. Alowing Ted to take a backseat and see that the team is in good hands with Nate and Roy.
    As for Rebecca and the 'mother' Prediction. I think Ms. Cakes has something "cooking"... But as you said lets not make any Predictions.

  • @ianp1986
    @ianp1986 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m so not ready for it to be over! I’ve loved your reactions throughout. Now there’s a gap, do you plan on watching the other Die Hard films? As for the final episode, I think Richmond will fall just short of winning the league. The fact that they were 4 points behind City and are now 1 point behind (it’s 3 points for a win in the Premier League) means that I think they will win their last game and they’ll think they’ve won the league and then City will win their final game in the last few seconds to win the league by a point. That almost happened stroke for stroke in real life in 2012. As a Man United fan, it still hurts! That season came down to goal difference (the difference between goals scored vs goals conceded) which is what separates teams that finish level on points but that is probably too hard to explain for people that don’t follow football. That cliffhanger with Ted saying he has something to tell Rebecca being that he’s leaving just seems slightly too obvious for this show, but I have no idea what else it could be

    My prediction (posting this before the finale) is that Ms. Kakes probably got knocked up by Rupert. And he gave her the boot.
    It would connect everything up. She'd go to Bex and reveal the affair. Bex would need to scheme how to leave Rupert and need advice on how to screw him over in the divorce (probably taking West Ham would do that). And Baby Kakes might need an adoption from someone who wants to be a mother....
