Shout out to Saori Hayami she has been doing a fantastic job with her voice work for Ryu this season and the emotions you feel tear into your heart especially with her chanting that spell during the flashback. Man, that emotion alongside that new OST called not meet doubt, that she also sang just incredible close to tearing up in that scene.
Episode 19 was HEAVILY edited. Add about 10 times as many monsters and 10 times as many injuries and you have the LN. They weren't untouched, there was no Ryu standing around chanting or watching Bell. They were fighting the whole time. Even while Ryu was chanting she was dodging, attacking, and getting hit. She had no choice, with her leg there was no way to outrun them. Also, on Bell's way back they should have cut Ryu's lines as they really don't make sense. In the LN, he was fucked up trying to get to her, covered in wounds and blood from head to toe. He was near death by the time he reached her which is why she was begging him to go back. When she was begging him to let her down, he was making a sickening, gurgling noise as he walked unsteady. He literally sounded like he was dying while trying to carry her.
Two things.... First, it becomes clear this episode that both Bell and Ryu consider the other a real Hero. If they became partners for life, they would truly be unbeatable together. Second, that scene of Ryu screaming for "Bell"(Not "Mr. Cranel" was hella powerful. The sorrow and yearning in the VA's effort. Incredibly.
Bell is pretty much going to be unbeatable by himself like Ottar. And he'll definitely be unbeatable paired with Ais. While he cares for Ryu as a dear friend. He is still enamored with Ais. She is who he wants to stand beside.
@@christophercorbin9387 if they had Ais with him this season, she would have soloed the juggernaut and floor 37 would have gone much easier. You can't have him adventuring with Ais until they are pretty much the same level. He won't be able to grow. And the next arc has less (although some) to do with Ais and more with Ryu. Yet Bell's feelings for Ais are reaffirmed and strengthened. I wonder why that is if Ryu is suddenly now the one. And why Bell is so worried about Ais asking Tiona about an adjective Lefiya called him in SO13? I mean if he's going to be connected to Ryu why should he care what Ais thinks? When Bell has to face the black dragon and what's at the bottom of the Dungeon, Ais will be the one at his side since the dragon is to Ais what the juggernaut was to Ryu. Ryu is fantastic enough as she is. A character who fell from justice and went dark now on a redemption arc trying to regain the justice she lost. There is no need to make her out to be more than she is. I probably should have saved this for the other post but nah it's fine here. By day she's a waitress, by night she's Bat....no she isn't Batman, saving Goth....Orario every night. Orario is fairly peaceful and Ganesha Familia is not incompetent. Yes she goes out occasionally when she sees a call for help but it isn't an every night activity. Even what happened in FC1 took a few days to resolve and she wasn't doing anything else in the meantime. And the calls for help happen during her normal day. She isn't perched on some rooftop looking out over the city. Also, Astrea Familia wasn't 3rd strongest in the world. The Knight of Knights' familia would automatically be stronger. You can make a solid case for Kali to have been stronger than Astrea even 5 years ago. And if the KoK wasn't in Poseidon, you can make a case for that familia as well since they were strong enough to aid Zeuz and Hera against the Leviathan. There may very well be others as the world keeps expanding. And Ganesha Familia wasn't equal in strength. They have 11 level 5s currently. It is highly unlikely Shakti was the only level 5 back then. And it is also unlikely that any of those other 10 were level 3 and leveled twice. So they had at least one and probably multiple level 5s, several level 4s, and hundreds of other members. I don't care who says it, Astrea Familia does not match that level of strength. You're misleading anime-onlys by stating these things. It's perfectly fine to say Astrea was one of the top 4 or 5 familias in Orario without overstating them. These ladies are badass enough without having to be blown out of proportion. Next you'll be saying Ryu can solo Luffy, Naruto, Ichigo, and Goku.
@Madcat17 I'm well aware of why Ais hasn't been a big part of the story. She needed to be apart from him so he could grow and not have her solve everything. I said Ryu has been the one by his side, not that she is "now the one." There is a difference. Problems are brought to the Benvolent Mistress, she hears about them, then goes out and fixes the problem. Not making that out to be more than it is. Yes, Bell cared about what Lefiya said because he loves Ais and didn't want her to think poorly of him. That whole sequence had nothign to do with Ryu. However, had Lefiya said things infront of Ryu or Hestia he probably would have reacted the same way, not wanting anyone to think such things either. The Black Dragon has a lot more to do with Ais story, true. But Ryu as well as the others will have to work together on that one. The Knight of Knight's is suposidly level 7, but we haven't actually had confirmation of that. And him being at the school of level 1s and 2s is hardly power. We know nothing about Poseidon's Familia's power, except that they are more powerful than the fishing family full of level 1s and they helped the Zeus and Hera Familia fight the Laviathan. Had the Astrea Familia continued they would be on track to have atleast 9 level 5s/6s. Ryu was growing at the same rate as Ais, and Kaguya and Alise would have been there before her. During the dark ages they were teamed up with Genesha Familia all the time. The Loki elites were level 5 back then, and just hit level 7. More than likely Shakti was still level 3/4, not level 5 until after the dark ages. What Genesha's familia does have is numbers. But, the story states it over and over again... This is the age of Quality over Quantity so the two familia's were very close in said "power." Not sure whats with the Ryu hate. Shes caught up to Ais now, end of story. I'm not overstating anything, nor am I misleading anyone. I stand by every statement.
@Christopher Corbin the phrase "some type of job by day, but by night they become a vigilante/hero/crusader for justice" is going to evoke the image of Batman, or for those old enough the original Green Arrow, or the Shadow, or any number of heroic types who went out every night fighting criminals in high-crime cities. You knew very well what words you chose, and that it's going to have people thinking she goes out every night just like the others. Except Orario isn't that bad and she doesn't listen to police scanners or sit on high rooftops. Ganesha doesn't have a Lion Signal they shine because they can't handle things. You chose your words deliberately to evoke that image hyping her up, and when I said slow that down, it's not every night, like some lawyer caught leading the witness you start saying I didn't say that. Of course not specifically., you didn't. But the subtext of the words you chose speak volumes. Same thing when you said their ship would get stronger when it doesn't because Bell doesn't feel that way. You encourage the new fledgling BellxRyu shippers when they shouldn't be. And here the original poster is swooning over them, and you again choose your words very carefully to imply there is more to Ryu being beside Bell other than the circumstances and that Ais is not anyone to worry about. Of course it's slightly vague which leaves you a chance to again say you're not saying anything. Even if the KoK isn't level 7, we know there is a level 7 that can at least challenge Ottar. It wouldn't matter if he was the only member or there were 100 level ones and twos. His familia would have been stronger than Astrea. That already drops them to 4th. Argana and Bache are currently level 6. Most likely level 5 5 years ago but possibly level 4. For them to have made level 6 they had to have had equally or more powerful opponents they overcame to rank up. So there had to more level 5s and possibly 6s at the time. 4 level 5s or 2 level 6s would again make them stronger than Astrea was at the time. You can dismiss Poseidon all you want, but they've been fighting the monsters in the deep seas for decades. And it's highly doubtful Zeus and Hera would invite a bunch of 2nd class adventurers yo help them. That makes no logical sense. Quality over quantity eh? So Astrea might have 9 level 5s (since Ais' feat was soloing Udaeous it might have pretty tough for any Astrea members to reach 6) today while Ganeshq has 11 plus an unknown number of 4s. Backtrack 5 years the scales still weigh the same. Ganesha has quality and quantity over Astrea. Again, simple logic. I mean, they spend less time in the Dungeon than even Astrea since they are the main police force, they aren't going to level up faster so they weren't all level 3s back then. They may be "close" but Ganesha was stronger. So to say Astrea was 3rd in the world was definitely an incorrect statement. I'm sure there were weasel words there too. And yes Ryu caught up to Ais because Omori had to come up with something to keep Loki Familia on the sidelines. I don't care for it because I truly think it hurts her in the long run and it is sketchy. And I know I'm not the only one who doesn't like it. I already said I reserve judgment for when I can read it, but I think he screwed the pooch on this one. And so what if she caught up to Ais? She'll be a great party member but it won't make Bell fall in love with her. I don't hate her at all but I don't like making the anime-onlys think there's more there than actual. I don't see how you can't realize, but that by day by night imagery calls up someone who is always out there every night which is not her. And your encouragement of a ship that isn't leaving port is just going to make the shipper wars even worse. You use words way too skillfully to not know what they imply. I love Ryu as a character but I don't like what Omori has been doing with her in volume 18 and also making her a distorted mirror of Ais. Ais was going into the dungeon every single day. All she did was focus on killing monsters until the twins came and started breaking her out of her shell. Ryu was part of Astrea Familia. They spent a large amount of time patrolling the city. Which means much less time in the dungeon, especially compared to Ais. How, logically could she keep pace with Ais? Either her stats would have to be a lot lower on rank up, which means she won't be nearly as strong, or Omori is fudging the numbers to make it work. This putting her on a parallel track has done a great disservice to her character and it was unneeded. Now so many people want to compare the two, and because Ryu has had a lot more screentime, Ais is getting trashed by people. Especially those who haven't read SO. He could have left her her own character, had her level up more slowly so there would be fewer comparisons, and let her stand alone. Now he bumps her up to 6 and puts them right back parallel. I really don't think it's fair to either girl, or to Bell for that matter.
It took Bell a little above 4 minutes to get back to Ryuu, and he did go across the whole thing full of monsters desperately to get to her... al the while charging the explosive with his argonaut ability for 240 seconds... which is a lot compared to how much time he usually gets to charge... all to save her...
As a long time fan of Danmachi, it makes me super happy to see you guys liking the series and advocating for more people to watch it! It's probably one of my favorite series!
Yup unfortunately it seems like its mostly got people who saw the 1st seasons continuing with the show and not many new watchers though I hear the LN at least is pretty popular in Japan if I'm not wrong I think they said it sold more than SAO
But to be fair though even when accounting for the good moments in the first season of the anime there were a lot of missteps. Skipping over important details that helped the set up a lot more, and this did continue in terms of issues for seasons 2 and 3. I don't know if sword orotoria did all that well honestly but the fact that hasn't gotten a season 2 tells me reception was likely not that great for the anime at least. This is isn't a jab at the light novels but looking at what the anime delivered in the first season that while it wasn't bad it didn't leave a good first impression. However I think what ultimately saved this series was memoria freese, the danmachi mobile game that showed people details and extra stories that gave the series more life to it which in turn likely helped the light novels sell that ultimately led to season 2 being greenlit. While not perfect as it did rush 2 story arcs but still did good enough to make season 3 Happen which really turned things around and I think that's where the anime staff realized where they had to put their efforts on that led to season 4 being the surprise hit for 2 seasons. I don't even think bleachs return topped that shock value. But yeah there's a lot to consider about danmachis history as anime and what helped it survive to get a second chance and unlike others who wasted it, danmachi made it's 2nd chance count.
Remember the monster bodies do not actually disapear... that is an anime thing... so the rotting bodies of the monsters in the coliseum are everywhere... that is why the monsters can't smell them under the cloth...
With Ryu its such a complex situation where she was always on this line of the survivor guilt that she was feeling and that promise that she made with her friends, living or dying. She was always in this endless loop of a curse it felt like and having that conversation with Bell about her and Justice and how he sees her as a hero will gradually start that healing process she desperately needs, but also having that conversation in general with someone she cares about will help immensely.
The thing about the juggernaut Bell is fighting(Floor 25 I think) is weaker than the one that killed the Astrea Familia(Floor 30) because the Juggernaut is stronger the deeper the floor it spawns in

@@gluebreeza1999 yep. Alise was a Level 5 when her fire power was active Tbh if the Astrea family knew it was coming and how to fight it, they'd have done a lot better. Alise & Ryu could've tag-teamed it until it was safe for the mages to attack
I think it's the same strength juggernaut, I don't think the 5 floor difference matters. It definitely would've made a difference if it was spawned on floor 37 since that's when monsters start becoming level 4, right?
@@recent935 The story emphasizes that the Juggernaut's strength directly correlates to the floor it spawns in so it would definitely make a difference. Since floor 27 has lvl 3-4 monsters its most likely high 5/lower 6 since it was able to kill Udaeus so the one that killed Astrea familia would have been around lvl 7 also a single level makes a HUGE difference in Danmachi as shown many times. and lvl 4 monsters appear as low as floor 27 just not as frequent like in the deep floors
Hi guys!! Thank you for supporting this wonderful series despite not giving the biggest viewership numbers in your channel. I agree, this is a HIGHLY underrated series. It is a disgrace that it wasn't even nominated in the fantasy genre in the chrunchyroll awards.
I would say Bell did use Ryu advice when she said turn your knowledge into wisdom, when he was charging up the explosive with Argonaut since he can imbue his ability into weapons like he's done before against the goliath (season 1) fight and asterius fight (season 3). That's how I see it implementing her teachings by recalling past experiences that worked before.
Episode 20 was the best episode of all the 4 season. And as both LN reader and anime watch I truly appreciate people's who really understand how good and vast danmachi is. Love your video too😉😉
With Ryu chanting she was depicted as fighting whilst chanting and not standing. Hence why you at 14:25 you feel she could've made it where in reality the situation was too dire for her to escape then she made the sacrifice play to destroy the bridge and push bell to safety.

Danmachi has all the unlikable tropes of a generic Harem anime, but they make it work, somehow; we can see all the payoff a mile away, yet they still hit so good.
Just some info on the juggernaut, they get stronger when they are spawned on lower floors, so for example the one bell fought is actually weaker than the one astrea familia fought.
As a huge fan for years I do my part as best I can, but sadly not many listen. When ep 20 came out I even posted to Chibi Reviews trying to egg him on to cover it. Way too many of the major anime content creators glaze over the series. The problem is sadly twofold this season. Season 2 caused a lot of people to jump ship due to poor adaptation, and the series only being on HiDive hurts it even more. On top of all that the name has never done the series any favors outside of Japan (where it is actively popular). I am glad you're still covering it and enjoying it though, and I am here for these reactions.
Gigguk mentioned in his winter preview that he treats it like SAO and he'll binge it at some point, but I think he also said he's only watched the first two seasons. I don't know if Chibi Reviews will give it a chance or not. Mother's Basement showed a scene of the juggernaut with a positive comment about fantasy anime this season in general, but I couldn't tell if he has watched it or not ot if he is even planning to. I got into a few spats with detractors, like one who called it SAO 2.0 (for the record I like SAO, and he was saying that to trash on it). Too many assumptions are made about the series unfortunately.
@Madcat17 Yeah, it is so weird. Especially comparing it to SAO. They are literally nothing alike. If you were gonna compare SAO to anything it would be .Hack, which it clearly came from. Chibi Reviews mentioned it a few times in the past but stopped during season 2. It probably left a bad taste in his mouth. Season 2 is really divisive, and sadly that is all due to JC Staff. Mother's Basement has talked favorably about the series in the past, but to be honest I don't really like the guy after he trashed Goblin Slayer via Twitter. A ton of people went crazy after ep 1, but didn't watch past that to see what that series is really like. Kind of like how people hated on Executioner and Her Way of Life after ep 1 even though the series is really good. Been enjoying the LN since I watched season 1 on a whim.

And there are a bunch of people who follow those 3 (and a few others) and if they don't give their seal of approval then it's considered no good. It's funny but I really don't care for any of them that much. CR"s Re:Zero content was good, and MB's Promised Neverland content was good, and Gigguk has some fun videos, but I start to roll my eyes when they start judging anime like some arbiter from on high (maybe I'm being harsh about that). Work"s been busier, so after I caught up on Re:Zero I haven't had much time for reading LNs (except whatever spoilers from D18 and SO13 I can find). I'm keeping up with Edens Zero and FT 100 YQ in manga but they're every 2 weeks. Instead my son and I have been showing a couple of his friends different anime when they come over, and I've been playing Tales of Arise. So I got to rewatch ERASED and part of Violet Evergarden this weekend.

I too have asked many major anime youtubers to cover the series but have not seen any fruit. I remember chibi mentioning he started season 3 but no finishing it. He actually talked favorably and mentioned he'll get up to date with never promised to finish it this season.
@Madcat17 Yeah, sharing the same VA and there being a ton of female characters does indeed make people jump to conclusions. Add in the name and they just want to stay away from it. It took me a drought of books to read to pick it up on a whim. I am so glad I did. Indeed, I honestly don't get why so many people hang on their every word and only like what they say is good. I'm not much one for herd mentality though. I like what I like and while I try to recommend series I am not gonna judge what others like. Haha, I feel you. I've been busy too. So busy I am only really watching 4 shows this season: Onimai, Trigun (I was a senior in high school when the original came out on VHS), Reborn to Master the Blade, and Danmachi.
I have only watched the anime but I have a theory that the colosseum could be the dungeon trying to forcibly create xenos. By dying and being reborn over and over again it might be trying to force the monsters to evolve. Fantastic vid as always!
The juggernaut that astrea familia has faced is actually is stronger than the one that bell faced the juggernaut's depends on the floor they spawn the stronger they are the one that astrea familia faced is 3 or 4 times stronger than the one bell fought
and Bell would be dead if it wasn't for that scarf that protected his neck. I am sure Lee and the crew understand this but they are just hyped in the moment and I love that!
The monster didn't look any different between then and now, just to be clear. Thats the way it looked back then, and any damage they did to it healed over by the time Jura called it out again.
A little note to really emphasize the, at the very least, level of respect that Bell has for Ryuu. She is the only living character that he has described as a hero, period. He doesn't even really see Ais as a hero, but he openly sees Ryuu as one. This coming from someone who idolized the idea of a hero enough to actually manifest a skill relating to them.

I can assume that they disguised themselves not as a monster, but as a dead monster, since the smell of a barbarian's heart can probably only appear after the death of this barbarian Therefore, the monsters fighting each other did not try to start a fight with those depicting a dead monster, but they don’t have enough brains to doubt why the monster is dead, but has not disappeared
Btw Bell was also fkd up by the juggernaut int his first try, he even lost 1 arm and then was saved by plot armour, i mean Marie lol, and second the juggernaut is stronger the deeper in the dungeon you are.
With the amount of time they spent together, and the hardships they went through. Seeing one another's true self in all angles, while trying to survive in a place where they are heavily disadvantaged. They better get married after all this. Ships be damned, they are obliged to get married for the audience.
First of all both the juggernauts are not the same. The power levels were different cuz the one spawned infront of bell was spawned on 26th or 27th floor and the one spawned infront of Ryu 's previous party was spawned in deeper floors so it was stronger and faster then the one they r facing . I am not sure if it was said in anime or just in ln but it was addressed by Ouranos when it first spawned infront of bell . Hope it helps in n understanding the power scaling . And feel free to correct me if am wrong ☺️.I really ❤️ur reactions guyz , keep it up u guys are doing amazing.
Episode 19 was actually a disapointment for readers. It didn't have nearly enough monsters, there should have been no standing around, every inch of ground was a bloody battle. Ryu was holding off a horde while chanting her spell, not just standing there at the bridge. Then when Bell reached her he should have scooped her up in his arms and shielded her with his own body as he set off the explosion. Episode 20 on the other hand was a perfect adaptation from the novel. What isn't covered is how much good Ryu actually has done in the city. Her actions brought the dark ages to an end, saving hundreds of lives. And once she became a waitress, she still went out at night as a vigilante protecting those who couldn't protect themselves, taking out criminal organizations, ending slave trades etc... The Astrea Familia were tied for the 3rd strongest familia in the world at this point. The posibility that something like this would happen was unthinkable.

It is on the level of saving private ryan ( Better in some aspects) It will break your stereotype regarding indian movies that they are only song and dance and fun . It will change your top 10 movie list of all times. One of the most important films ever made. Very much grounded and realistic. A correction: the juggernaut that killed the astrea family was a different spawn. The one Bell fights is a different juggernaut entirely that is estimated to be level 5, while the other one was around level 6 or 7. Bell is high end level 4 right now in the anime and having 5 bells on astreas familia would still end in a massacre. Their familia was made of mainly level 3 and 4s. The juggernaut also dies after a certain amount of time passes without dropping any items.

And the next arc has less (although some) to do with Ais and more with Ryu. Yet Bell's feelings for Ais are reaffirmed and strengthened. I wonder why that is if Ryu is suddenly now the one.
And why Bell is so worried about Ais asking Tiona about an adjective Lefiya called him in SO13? I mean if he's going to be connected to Ryu why should he care what Ais thinks?
When Bell has to face the black dragon and what's at the bottom of the Dungeon, Ais will be the one at his side since the dragon is to Ais what the juggernaut was to Ryu.
Ryu is fantastic enough as she is. A character who fell from justice and went dark now on a redemption arc trying to regain the justice she lost. There is no need to make her out to be more than she is. I probably should have saved this for the other post but nah it's fine here. By day she's a waitress, by night she's Bat....no she isn't Batman, saving Goth....Orario every night. Orario is fairly peaceful and Ganesha Familia is not incompetent. Yes she goes out occasionally when she sees a call for help but it isn't an every night activity. Even what happened in FC1 took a few days to resolve and she wasn't doing anything else in the meantime. And the calls for help happen during her normal day. She isn't perched on some rooftop looking out over the city.
Also, Astrea Familia wasn't 3rd strongest in the world. The Knight of Knights' familia would automatically be stronger. You can make a solid case for Kali to have been stronger than Astrea even 5 years ago. And if the KoK wasn't in Poseidon, you can make a case for that familia as well since they were strong enough to aid Zeuz and Hera against the Leviathan. There may very well be others as the world keeps expanding.
And Ganesha Familia wasn't equal in strength. They have 11 level 5s currently. It is highly unlikely Shakti was the only level 5 back then. And it is also unlikely that any of those other 10 were level 3 and leveled twice. So they had at least one and probably multiple level 5s, several level 4s, and hundreds of other members. I don't care who says it, Astrea Familia does not match that level of strength.
You're misleading anime-onlys by stating these things. It's perfectly fine to say Astrea was one of the top 4 or 5 familias in Orario without overstating them. These ladies are badass enough without having to be blown out of proportion. Next you'll be saying Ryu can solo Luffy, Naruto, Ichigo, and Goku.
@Madcat17 I'm well aware of why Ais hasn't been a big part of the story. She needed to be apart from him so he could grow and not have her solve everything. I said Ryu has been the one by his side, not that she is "now the one." There is a difference.
Problems are brought to the Benvolent Mistress, she hears about them, then goes out and fixes the problem. Not making that out to be more than it is.
Yes, Bell cared about what Lefiya said because he loves Ais and didn't want her to think poorly of him. That whole sequence had nothign to do with Ryu. However, had Lefiya said things infront of Ryu or Hestia he probably would have reacted the same way, not wanting anyone to think such things either.
The Black Dragon has a lot more to do with Ais story, true. But Ryu as well as the others will have to work together on that one.
The Knight of Knight's is suposidly level 7, but we haven't actually had confirmation of that. And him being at the school of level 1s and 2s is hardly power. We know nothing about Poseidon's Familia's power, except that they are more powerful than the fishing family full of level 1s and they helped the Zeus and Hera Familia fight the Laviathan.
Had the Astrea Familia continued they would be on track to have atleast 9 level 5s/6s. Ryu was growing at the same rate as Ais, and Kaguya and Alise would have been there before her. During the dark ages they were teamed up with Genesha Familia all the time. The Loki elites were level 5 back then, and just hit level 7. More than likely Shakti was still level 3/4, not level 5 until after the dark ages. What Genesha's familia does have is numbers. But, the story states it over and over again... This is the age of Quality over Quantity so the two familia's were very close in said "power."
Not sure whats with the Ryu hate. Shes caught up to Ais now, end of story. I'm not overstating anything, nor am I misleading anyone. I stand by every statement.
@Christopher Corbin the phrase "some type of job by day, but by night they become a vigilante/hero/crusader for justice" is going to evoke the image of Batman, or for those old enough the original Green Arrow, or the Shadow, or any number of heroic types who went out every night fighting criminals in high-crime cities. You knew very well what words you chose, and that it's going to have people thinking she goes out every night just like the others.
Except Orario isn't that bad and she doesn't listen to police scanners or sit on high rooftops. Ganesha doesn't have a Lion Signal they shine because they can't handle things.
You chose your words deliberately to evoke that image hyping her up, and when I said slow that down, it's not every night, like some lawyer caught leading the witness you start saying I didn't say that. Of course not specifically., you didn't. But the subtext of the words you chose speak volumes.
Same thing when you said their ship would get stronger when it doesn't because Bell doesn't feel that way. You encourage the new fledgling BellxRyu shippers when they shouldn't be.
And here the original poster is swooning over them, and you again choose your words very carefully to imply there is more to Ryu being beside Bell other than the circumstances and that Ais is not anyone to worry about. Of course it's slightly vague which leaves you a chance to again say you're not saying anything.
Even if the KoK isn't level 7, we know there is a level 7 that can at least challenge Ottar. It wouldn't matter if he was the only member or there were 100 level ones and twos. His familia would have been stronger than Astrea. That already drops them to 4th.
Argana and Bache are currently level 6. Most likely level 5 5 years ago but possibly level 4. For them to have made level 6 they had to have had equally or more powerful opponents they overcame to rank up. So there had to more level 5s and possibly 6s at the time. 4 level 5s or 2 level 6s would again make them stronger than Astrea was at the time.
You can dismiss Poseidon all you want, but they've been fighting the monsters in the deep seas for decades. And it's highly doubtful Zeus and Hera would invite a bunch of 2nd class adventurers yo help them. That makes no logical sense.
Quality over quantity eh? So Astrea might have 9 level 5s (since Ais' feat was soloing Udaeous it might have pretty tough for any Astrea members to reach 6) today while Ganeshq has 11 plus an unknown number of 4s. Backtrack 5 years the scales still weigh the same. Ganesha has quality and quantity over Astrea. Again, simple logic. I mean, they spend less time in the Dungeon than even Astrea since they are the main police force, they aren't going to level up faster so they weren't all level 3s back then. They may be "close" but Ganesha was stronger.
So to say Astrea was 3rd in the world was definitely an incorrect statement. I'm sure there were weasel words there too.
And yes Ryu caught up to Ais because Omori had to come up with something to keep Loki Familia on the sidelines. I don't care for it because I truly think it hurts her in the long run and it is sketchy. And I know I'm not the only one who doesn't like it. I already said I reserve judgment for when I can read it, but I think he screwed the pooch on this one.
And so what if she caught up to Ais? She'll be a great party member but it won't make Bell fall in love with her. I don't hate her at all but I don't like making the anime-onlys think there's more there than actual. I don't see how you can't realize, but that by day by night imagery calls up someone who is always out there every night which is not her. And your encouragement of a ship that isn't leaving port is just going to make the shipper wars even worse. You use words way too skillfully to not know what they imply.
I love Ryu as a character but I don't like what Omori has been doing with her in volume 18 and also making her a distorted mirror of Ais. Ais was going into the dungeon every single day. All she did was focus on killing monsters until the twins came and started breaking her out of her shell.
Ryu was part of Astrea Familia. They spent a large amount of time patrolling the city. Which means much less time in the dungeon, especially compared to Ais. How, logically could she keep pace with Ais? Either her stats would have to be a lot lower on rank up, which means she won't be nearly as strong, or Omori is fudging the numbers to make it work. This putting her on a parallel track has done a great disservice to her character and it was unneeded. Now so many people want to compare the two, and because Ryu has had a lot more screentime, Ais is getting trashed by people. Especially those who haven't read SO. He could have left her her own character, had her level up more slowly so there would be fewer comparisons, and let her stand alone. Now he bumps her up to 6 and puts them right back parallel. I really don't think it's fair to either girl, or to Bell for that matter.
It took Bell a little above 4 minutes to get back to Ryuu, and he did go across the whole thing full of monsters desperately to get to her... al the while charging the explosive with his argonaut ability for 240 seconds... which is a lot compared to how much time he usually gets to charge... all to save her...
As a long time fan of Danmachi, it makes me super happy to see you guys liking the series and advocating for more people to watch it! It's probably one of my favorite series!
Yup unfortunately it seems like its mostly got people who saw the 1st seasons continuing with the show and not many new watchers though I hear the LN at least is pretty popular in Japan if I'm not wrong I think they said it sold more than SAO
But to be fair though even when accounting for the good moments in the first season of the anime there were a lot of missteps. Skipping over important details that helped the set up a lot more, and this did continue in terms of issues for seasons 2 and 3. I don't know if sword orotoria did all that well honestly but the fact that hasn't gotten a season 2 tells me reception was likely not that great for the anime at least.
This is isn't a jab at the light novels but looking at what the anime delivered in the first season that while it wasn't bad it didn't leave a good first impression. However I think what ultimately saved this series was memoria freese, the danmachi mobile game that showed people details and extra stories that gave the series more life to it which in turn likely helped the light novels sell that ultimately led to season 2 being greenlit. While not perfect as it did rush 2 story arcs but still did good enough to make season 3 Happen which really turned things around and I think that's where the anime staff realized where they had to put their efforts on that led to season 4 being the surprise hit for 2 seasons. I don't even think bleachs return topped that shock value.
But yeah there's a lot to consider about danmachis history as anime and what helped it survive to get a second chance and unlike others who wasted it, danmachi made it's 2nd chance count.

The anime did downplay why Ryuu couldn't follow bell... she WAS keeping so many of them at bay at that bridge...
With Ryu its such a complex situation where she was always on this line of the survivor guilt that she was feeling and that promise that she made with her friends, living or dying. She was always in this endless loop of a curse it felt like and having that conversation with Bell about her and Justice and how he sees her as a hero will gradually start that healing process she desperately needs, but also having that conversation in general with someone she cares about will help immensely.
The thing about the juggernaut Bell is fighting(Floor 25 I think) is weaker than the one that killed the Astrea Familia(Floor 30) because the Juggernaut is stronger the deeper the floor it spawns in
Not to mention Bell would also have died to a weaker version if that scarf didn't protect his neck lol

I think it's the same strength juggernaut, I don't think the 5 floor difference matters. It definitely would've made a difference if it was spawned on floor 37 since that's when monsters start becoming level 4, right?
@@recent935 The story emphasizes that the Juggernaut's strength directly correlates to the floor it spawns in so it would definitely make a difference. Since floor 27 has lvl 3-4 monsters its most likely high 5/lower 6 since it was able to kill Udaeus so the one that killed Astrea familia would have been around lvl 7 also a single level makes a HUGE difference in Danmachi as shown many times.
and lvl 4 monsters appear as low as floor 27 just not as frequent like in the deep floors

I would say Bell did use Ryu advice when she said turn your knowledge into wisdom, when he was charging up the explosive with Argonaut since he can imbue his ability into weapons like he's done before against the goliath (season 1) fight and asterius fight (season 3). That's how I see it implementing her teachings by recalling past experiences that worked before.
The Juggernaut vs the Astrea familia was brutal, can't even call it a fight it was a one-sided massacre 😔

With Ryu chanting she was depicted as fighting whilst chanting and not standing. Hence why you at 14:25 you feel she could've made it where in reality the situation was too dire for her to escape then she made the sacrifice play to destroy the bridge and push bell to safety.

Danmachi has all the unlikable tropes of a generic Harem anime, but they make it work, somehow; we can see all the payoff a mile away, yet they still hit so good.
Just some info on the juggernaut, they get stronger when they are spawned on lower floors, so for example the one bell fought is actually weaker than the one astrea familia fought.

As a huge fan for years I do my part as best I can, but sadly not many listen. When ep 20 came out I even posted to Chibi Reviews trying to egg him on to cover it. Way too many of the major anime content creators glaze over the series.
The problem is sadly twofold this season. Season 2 caused a lot of people to jump ship due to poor adaptation, and the series only being on HiDive hurts it even more. On top of all that the name has never done the series any favors outside of Japan (where it is actively popular).
I am glad you're still covering it and enjoying it though, and I am here for these reactions.
Gigguk mentioned in his winter preview that he treats it like SAO and he'll binge it at some point, but I think he also said he's only watched the first two seasons.
I don't know if Chibi Reviews will give it a chance or not. Mother's Basement showed a scene of the juggernaut with a positive comment about fantasy anime this season in general, but I couldn't tell if he has watched it or not ot if he is even planning to.
I got into a few spats with detractors, like one who called it SAO 2.0 (for the record I like SAO, and he was saying that to trash on it). Too many assumptions are made about the series unfortunately.
@Madcat17 Yeah, it is so weird. Especially comparing it to SAO. They are literally nothing alike. If you were gonna compare SAO to anything it would be .Hack, which it clearly came from.
Chibi Reviews mentioned it a few times in the past but stopped during season 2. It probably left a bad taste in his mouth. Season 2 is really divisive, and sadly that is all due to JC Staff.
Mother's Basement has talked favorably about the series in the past, but to be honest I don't really like the guy after he trashed Goblin Slayer via Twitter. A ton of people went crazy after ep 1, but didn't watch past that to see what that series is really like. Kind of like how people hated on Executioner and Her Way of Life after ep 1 even though the series is really good. Been enjoying the LN since I watched season 1 on a whim.

It's funny but I really don't care for any of them that much. CR"s Re:Zero content was good, and MB's Promised Neverland content was good, and Gigguk has some fun videos, but I start to roll my eyes when they start judging anime like some arbiter from on high (maybe I'm being harsh about that).
Work"s been busier, so after I caught up on Re:Zero I haven't had much time for reading LNs (except whatever spoilers from D18 and SO13 I can find). I'm keeping up with Edens Zero and FT 100 YQ in manga but they're every 2 weeks.
Instead my son and I have been showing a couple of his friends different anime when they come over, and I've been playing Tales of Arise. So I got to rewatch ERASED and part of Violet Evergarden this weekend.

I too have asked many major anime youtubers to cover the series but have not seen any fruit. I remember chibi mentioning he started season 3 but no finishing it. He actually talked favorably and mentioned he'll get up to date with never promised to finish it this season.

I have only watched the anime but I have a theory that the colosseum could be the dungeon trying to forcibly create xenos. By dying and being reborn over and over again it might be trying to force the monsters to evolve.

The monster didn't look any different between then and now, just to be clear. Thats the way it looked back then, and any damage they did to it healed over by the time Jura called it out again.
A little note to really emphasize the, at the very least, level of respect that Bell has for Ryuu. She is the only living character that he has described as a hero, period. He doesn't even really see Ais as a hero, but he openly sees Ryuu as one. This coming from someone who idolized the idea of a hero enough to actually manifest a skill relating to them.
in astrea record story in the dan machi mobile game you see way more of astrea and the familia which made this episode hit way harder , def needs a anime adaption
I can assume that they disguised themselves not as a monster, but as a dead monster, since the smell of a barbarian's heart can probably only appear after the death of this barbarian
Therefore, the monsters fighting each other did not try to start a fight with those depicting a dead monster, but they don’t have enough brains to doubt why the monster is dead, but has not disappeared

With the amount of time they spent together, and the hardships they went through. Seeing one another's true self in all angles, while trying to survive in a place where they are heavily disadvantaged. They better get married after all this. First of all both the juggernauts are not the same. The power levels were different cuz the one spawned infront of bell was spawned on 26th or 27th floor and the one spawned infront of Ryu 's previous party was spawned in deeper floors so it was stronger and faster then the one they r facing .
I am not sure if it was said in anime or just in ln but it was addressed by Ouranos when it first spawned infront of bell . Hope it helps in n understanding the power scaling . And feel free to correct me if am wrong ☺️.I really ❤️ur reactions guyz , keep it up u guys are doing amazing.

Episode 19 was actually a disapointment for readers. It didn't have nearly enough monsters, there should have been no standing around, every inch of ground was a bloody battle. Ryu was holding off a horde while chanting her spell, not just standing there at the bridge. Then when Bell reached her he should have scooped her up in his arms and shielded her with his own body as he set off the explosion. Episode 20 on the other hand was a perfect adaptation from the novel. What isn't covered is how much good Ryu actually has done in the city. Her actions brought the dark ages to an end, saving hundreds of lives. And once she became a waitress, she still went out at night as a vigilante protecting those who couldn't protect themselves, taking out criminal organizations, ending slave trades etc... The Astrea Familia were tied for the 3rd strongest familia in the world at this point. The posibility that something like this would happen was unthinkable.

A correction: the juggernaut that killed the astrea family was a different spawn. The one Bell fights is a different juggernaut entirely that is estimated to be level 5, while the other one was around level 6 or 7. Bell is high end level 4 right now in the anime and having 5 bells on astreas familia would still end in a massacre. Their familia was made of mainly level 3 and 4s. The juggernaut also dies after a certain amount of time passes without dropping any items.
