Immortal! The Andy Griffith show is destined to live on as long as television sets exist. Simply because Barney Fife is the greatest character in television history. Don Knotts set a bar for future comedic actors American Airlines couldn't pass over. He proves once and for all the greatest gift a performer can have is the ability to poke fun at yourself. Knotts acted through a nonexistent ego. Full of false bravado one moment, abject humiliation the next. Through every pratfall the most loveable everyman that ever existed. Only after he left did the Andy Griffith show descend from its mountaintop. Best show of all time while he graced the screen. Period and exclamation point.

@@ak8990 If an episode is in black & white, it includes Barney, and is a gem. If it's a color episode, that coincides with when Don Knotts left to make movies. Those episodes are virtually NEVER seen on TV reruns. Why? BECAUSE NOBODY WANTS TO SEE THEM! Boring schmaltz.

Ellen Corby was a good actress. IRL she was foul mouthed, a bohemian lefty from the 20s with communist associations and some questionable but kept private romantic situations. Will Geer had a similar past.
Yet she typically played the ultra conservative, traditional church lady. Good actress.

@@brianarbenz7206 Really? When the leftists that she associated with were the likes of communists like Will Geer (who played Grandpa Walton along with Ellen), who was not only an open homosexual & card-carrying member of the US communist party, but he was also the lover of Harry Hay, a communist gay rights advocate who was also a card-carrying member and a very vocal supporter of NAMBLA, an organization that advocates for the rights of adult men that s* xually enjoy young boys. So, let that be a taste of the type of people in 'The People's Party'. A bunch of rich degenerates that fight for their right to enjoy underage boys.
Also, I enjoy how in Geer's wiki page, it goes on about how he's such a staunch, good little communist, but right under it, the article goes on about how he 'maintained a garden at his vacation house, called Geer-Gore Gardens, in Nichols, Connecticut', and how 'He also had a small vacation house in Solana Beach, California', no different from all the other champagne socialists who preach absolute mandatory financial and social equality from the balcony of one of their many vacation homes.

    "an" was never in Andy's vocabulary: a apple , a hour , a insult.
2:49 The speedometer must have been on the floor.
Everyone in suits and ties to go for a drive. LOL
You left out one of the best parts when Mrs Lesch offers Barney a replacement after being caught.
2:19 The car tracked well, Barney didn't watch the road for 20 seconds.

Hmm-let’s take a look at this car. A 1958 Custom Sedan on blocks since 1959-low mileage with white wall tires. Now my guess is that it was a 1958 Ford Custom or Custom 300. A lot of car. My guess is something was majorly wrong with it and it was a lemon straight from the factory and possibly was robbed of parts to get other cars going.

Observ45er The price index is the same but the dollar was worth a lot more than today. I bought a 1970 Cougar XR7 in 1970 for $3,500.00 with a monthly note around $120.00 per mth after finance charge . I was bringing home $155.00 week as a skilled tradesman and I rented a two bd. rm. apt in a nice area for $145.00 nth. wow, those were the days.

    • @Observ45er
      @Observ45er 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +sthpac69,
Not sure what your point is.
What do you mean by "The price index is the same..." It changes by the inflation.
      ...
Also, You have it backwards. The dollar is worth LESS today. That's why it takes more to buy things and pay you...
      ...
I did this comparison a couple of weeks ago. From mid 1963 to 2018, prices changed by a factor of over 8.
      ...
30.6 cpi in 1963 (mid year)
      252.89 cpi in 2018
      8.264 Inflation Factor
      $300 $ in 1963
      $2,479 $ in 2018
      ..
So in today's dollars, Barney bought a 2009 car for $2,479.
      ...
Kelley numbers for 2009 "Fair condition" 50 k mi cars:
      Taurus - $2,859-$3,758
      Focus - $1,876 - $2,617
I'd say that the numbers look ok.
