I was traveling in Europe that summer and watched as the wedding was broadcast all across the globe. Diana was radiant and I remember thinking there was never a more beautiful bride. She captured the world's heart and when she died so tragically I remember crying for days, as though I had lost something very precious. :(
I was 17 and had graduated high school 2 months before. Getting up before daylight to watch the wedding is a very fond memory. 3 years later I would be in London strolling through the grounds of Kensington Palace. And on that tragic day in August 1997 I listened to the news of Diana’s death and cried.
I also got up early as a starry eyed romantic teenager and watched the wedding feed, live, the morning I started my summer job!😂 Very fond memories. I really wanted to believe it was a fairy tale.
I would have been eleven and had just left junior school back then (1981). Remember watching the Royal Wedding on TV. In 1997 I was 27 and recall coming back from holiday and discovered the terrible news of Diana's tragic demise!
When The Queen and Prince Philip first come out of Buckingham Palace, the noise from the crowd is astounding, almost as loud as a 1970s David Cassidy concert!
My mother got up before the crack of dawn in the U.S. to watch this wedding. She was pregnant with me and my twin sister. ETA: The rendition of the national anthem here is just spine-tingling fantastic.

As far as we knew back then this was a fairytale. We all know how it ended, not with happily ever after but with heartbreak, strife and divorce. It's awkward to watch this with the knowledge of today. May Diana rest in eternal peace.

One of the benefits of having a royal wedding or any royal ceremony in St Paul's Cathedral is that the congregation can see the ceremony. Westminster Abbey blocks the view for everyone sitting in the nave with the Quire screens, so they can't see the ceremony, unless they watch TV screens. In St Paul's it is open, with better views for the congregation.
