Christmas 2011. I had just started my first year of uni and had gotten into electronic music a bit more. Even the shitty student clubs we used to go to were dropping the occasional Dubstep and Drum & Bass that made the whole place go mad. It was the days of Flux Pavilion's Louder and Pendulum's Voodoo People Remixes. And of course Nero's tunes were getting rinsed everywhere. New Life, Promises, and all the Dubstep remixes that were en vogue back in the day. Eventually I found this mix. There's something about these short clips of each track that blend into each other so perfectly, creating a medley of the musical journey that was Welcome Reality. Naturally, I ended up buying the album. Don't get me wrong, the album (and especially the extended version) is amazing. But already back then, perhaps foreshadowing that I get way into DJing one day, I thought electronic music sounded best when mixed, so I came back to this video a lot. Anyway, back to Christmas 2011. It was the first time since going to uni in September that I came back home and saw my friends again. Naturally we went on a mad binge to demonstrate how sturdy drinkers we had become. My memories of the events of that night are hazy at best, but it was one of the best nights out in my life. The next day I woke up with still outrageously drunk. All I knew was that I wanted to listen to this mix, so I went into the living room where my mum was waiting with breakfast, suspiciously trying to gauge the state of my hangover. I told her there was something I needed to do and plugged my phone into the big fancy stereo. I know the sound quality of this video isn't great but it still sounded a million times better than the cheap speakers I had at uni. I sat down on the couch with a cup of coffee and looked out onto the garden onto which the winter sun was shining. For some reason I still remember the exact sight. The mix sounded absolutely incredible on the stereo, it was like experiencing the mix for the first time again. While it was playing, I was reflecting on what a crazy but positive turn my life had taken since moving out and moving to a different country for uni. The music pulled all the right chords in the right moments. It was one of the most intense and memorable listening experiences. Hearing this now makes me nostalgic to a point that's hard to put into words. So many emotions came together that day. Sure, I was still pretty intoxicated, that always helps with enjoying music and amplifying emotions. I don't know why I cherish this particular memory so much. These days I practically only listen to Techno and a bit of Drum & Bass, but this is what I consider to be the first step of that musical journey that has been the most important thing in my life for the last 8 years. Thank you Nero.

I thought this mix was a fever dream till I rediscovered it tonight. I ripped this onto my old PC in high school, burnt it to a disc and bumped the ever loving hell out of it in my GTI circa '11-'12. What memories
I have been a fan of EDM for years now so many good albums out there! But Nero’s Welcome Reality the BEST EDM ALBUM of all time and it is now 10 years old……this album is a masterpiece with some of the best Dubstep tracks I have ever heard! Thank you Nero for the memories.
I wish these records were easier to find in music stores. I know that things are mostly digital these days, but I love to have physical copies to read the inside sleeve and enjoy the artwork while jamming.
Anyone else realize that if you listen to the album in order its just one big song, they all connect! The most obvious one is at the end of me and you and the beginning of promises.
Walking home drunk a friend pulled this album cd from the passanger seat of a unlocked car. This untimely harmless criminal event proceded to unlock a unexplored region of my brain, and this mix is the perfect amalgamation of what my brain remembers listening to this cd for the first time on a old sony head deck with fusion subwoofer
