In June 2011, pioneering dubstep/drum and bass producers, Nero, teamed up with the world-famous BBC Philharmonic. The result is this unique blend between two music genres. Orchestrated and conducted by Joe Duddell (joeduddell.co.uk/). Performed live at MediaCity in Salford.
Hosted by BBC Radio 1 (The Zane Lowe Show) and BBC Radio 1Xtra (MistaJam).

Welcome Reality is one of the best albums in any genre since it's release.

Nero clearly has incredible vision and knowledge of classical music. They are the only electronic group I'm aware of to have recorded a fugue. As a trained classical pianist I appreciate this. I saw them in an intimate show about 10-12 years ago and they were incredible! Truly unrivaled talent!
It feels like things are coming full circle in a roundabout way , thinking about recordings of strings and horns being used with synthesisers and winding up with this
Almost 8 years later and still brings me to tears at the end. Beautiful!

As a dubstep/drum & bass fan, and not really much into classical music,this is just superb. I love how all the orchestral thing suits with dubstep. This is probably one of the most beatiful things I've ever listen to.

I'm so thankful that I was able to live in an era where genres across the world respect each other and mix it up from the norm. This is outstanding, can't wait to see where it goes from here.
I tried listening to this again pretending that it was back live on the radio. Such an unforgettable, once in a lifetime moment. I cancelled all my plans just to listen to it that day with a beer. I haven't had chills like that in a LONG time, I've missed those dam chills you get from some special pieces of music!

Far to much talent and musical ability for this to qualify as popular contemporary music unfortunately.
If it were you would see a lot more money being spent at the symphony...
i think he meant contemporary in the sense of symphonic music. most composers today are not that great.
Cyge Firstcaste i really want to see more electronic symphonies, an orchestra has a lot of potential but most composer stay tied to only playing very classical sounding music. the best thing i can find are soundtracks. in soundtracks the composers are usually forced to break the classical standard to create more emotional, interesting music.

So uplifting and awe-inspiring in every sense. It projects hope, foreboding and so many other emotions. My day is instantly amazing after hearing this in the morning.

13:32 the orchestral version of Guilt by Nero.
From this point on is where I felt they had stumbled upon something that felt just exhilarating. I do like the symphony as a whole and it was building up to this point of the song. It really felt heart pounding and brought a tear to my eye out of shear emotion when it started. It startled me because it has a different emotion than what the rest of the symphony portrays.
They could have done Guilt in an orchestrated way and I think it could have reached out to a wider audience. If they had a live singer singing her parts it would have pushed the envelope for me during the performance.
This one part of the orchestration really stands out to me as the bread winner of the song.
I tried to listen to the track Guilt but it just doesn’t sound as good as the way they did it at the end of the symphony. Man the possibilities of the Guilt being an orchestral track.
This is proof that great music transcends boundaries.
Im using this to convince my highschool band director to do a dubstep/concert style set this year

Nero WERE the first to write and record a "Dubstep Symphony". This was recorded live on 6th June 2011 and was later added as a bonus track to Welcome Reality. While Skrillex's Bangarang only went into production in June 2011 and was release in December. I think both are brilliant. But Nero did do it first.
Daft Punk did it 1st if we talking just dubstep. if we go even further back, Kraftwerk.

I never tire of listening to this, I'm not an orchestra fan as such nor am I an avid dubstep fan but absolutely love this. To the haters, once you get ya head round the fact that the orchestra are making the sound with their own hands rather than using electronics it will dawn on you just how amazing this actually is. I will listen again and again and again. Love it and those that produced it :))

This is a wonderful, remarkable collaboration.
From what I read; both Nero, the orchestrator's of the PhO, and the musicians therein; loved combining the classical elements with the electronic - enjoying the challenges presented with fusing the differing musical competencies.
I love that they even dared do this, let alone succeed so distinctively; I hope these collaboration's continue to prevail.
I'm struggling to find a more satisfying drop, than one encountered at the 4:53 mark (there - or there about's) - the build up is essential, and achingly beautiful, the ensuing drop......well just listen.
(ensure good headphones or speakers, to truly appreciate).

11 years later and this still hits
I was there. Still come back and look at it every year or so. It sounded amazing but there was speakers there too that amplified the sound. But it was extremely hot inside there and it was a very long wait before it started

i was in high school band from 6th-12th grade, while that might not sound like much to you, I spent all my weekends and summers at band practice on top of course regular school periods. we went to competitions for concert and marching band, we went to every game and played nonstop and then marched while playing an entire set. its fucking hard, sweating bullets in full costume and gasping for air. so if you like these guys at least know they arent having to run around in a very specific fashion at the same time, lucky bastards. i like this song.
please please someone recreate this, either the same artists or different people. but this combination of absolute classical instrumental sound with something modern is something that should be repeated over and over!

It's amazing how the orchestra played something that seems unorthdox. Even the classical and traditional need to evolve sometimes.

This video gives me goosebumps. Saw them live @ I love techno 2 days ago and the same thing happened :-) I truly hope this extremely talented duo keeps on producing great music, it simply makes the world a bit more beautiful.

It's one thing to come on stage and have a prerecorded song and play it up there and it another when people spend a lot of time and effort and you can see that on stage... This was absolutely beautiful
Nero have inspired me immensely since i first heard them 10years ago. Now studying music at uni I'm working on something like this, it'll be a huge project and painstaking but watching this makes me want to really go for it now.
I love both electronic and classical music, and this was such a treat to listen to. Can't describe the amount of goosebumps this gave me!! It was epic and so beautiful.

This is amazing, I love the track.
I love this. Anything that gets kids interested in classical music. I love good dubstep, and in my mind, Vivaldi's Four Seasons (Summer presto section, 2:06-2:13) has one of the best classical "drops." Loved that piece since I was 14.

Just saw Nero live in concert last Saturday. As a classical music fan I'm such a die hard fan of NERO. I shook hands with Dan Stephens!
I don't feel the final part was mixed with DubStep, buuuut more techno/orchestra hybrid inspired.
That's just me tho lol

It's all Nero dubstep tracks performed by the orchestra.. just doesn't have the heavy bass in like the original, still amazing though

There are no statistics on what I'm about to suggest but usually, in my experience, people like Rachmaninoff are quite creative, and all the creative people I've met seem to be quite open minded. Maybe you can't see it because you're a bit more closed minded?

4c00h You'd be dissapointed to find out what 19th century composers would say about each other (well, basically, each one said horrible, narrow-minded things about the genius of a younger generation, all composers that we consider brilliant and visionary now). :D
But if he were to diss this, it wouldn't be necessarily about the idea of dubstep, or the idea of combining those two, but about the sad and lazy result
Harmonically speaking this dubstep composition seems very poor. It's creative in its research of new sounds, but composers such as Rachmaninoff saw both the form and the content.
This is pretty much the pinnacle of my life.

I think their is to much snobbery when it comes to Classical music, I think its a great idea to mix genres of music, just to see how it turns out.

Okay, just wanted to clear something up here. This has nothing to do with classical music; just because there's an orchestra involved doesn't mean it's classical. Generally, "classical" music (big generalization of a lot of other stuff) has its own unique compositional style, focusing on the interplay of melody and harmony in a bigger, more complex, more flowing way than what you see here, which is mostly rhythm and harmony. It has much more akin to modern cinematic music. That really ticks me off. Barely has much to do with dubstep either.
Also what really ticks me off is that these guys didn't take advantage of the fact that they had a whole fucking orchestra at their disposal. You've got an orchestra with how many people in it, and all you do is give them single notes, percussion, chords, rhythmic figures, and arpeggios... sure.

if the snare is playing half step, than it is categorized as dubstep. And there are two sub genres of dubstep, the UK dubstep (more lyrical melody), and then you have the American dubstep (melody is played on bass and usually a synthesizer playing the overtones) CMIIW.
how can you criticize such a masterpiece... sorry the world of music isn't as stagnant you'd like it to be...
But it sounds good.... just because not everyone in the orchestra is playing intricately woven counterharmonies doesn't mean it's not a good piece of music. Look at the four seasons, apart from the ridiculously complex 1st violin, the music itself is relatively simple.
Yes and ists not Dubstep. Its a Mix between Clasic and Dubstep. Its not Dubstep. Its not Clasic. Its a MIX. AND ITS EPIC!

it's sad they don't interact that well. the dupstep and the orchestra are seperated things in this shymphony instead of intermingling they play at different times. kills the dynamic. all the trouble of putting so many people together for nothing
