I'm just cracking up here watching you drive around and picturing the scene from Planes Trains and Automobiles when they get pulled over in their car that's been through hell and the cop asks, "Do you feel this vehicle is safe for highway travel?" and John Candy responds "Yes, yes I do! It's not pretty to look at but it will get you to where you want to go." I've been binge watching the series since I discovered it 2 days ago. Loving it. Very impressed that someone would take on a project like this in their garage with mostly basic tools. Keep'em coming!
Hi, here I am again. If driving doesn’t fix your PSM try this: The steering angle sensor must be re-initialised when the battery is disconnected and connected. Turn wheels to straight-ahead position. Switch ignition off and then on again twice. Start engine. From the straight-ahead position, turn steering wheel approx. 20° to the right, past the straight-ahead position. Drive the vehicle straight ahead for at least one second at a speed above 4 km/h (2.5 mph). The steering angle sensor segment is recognised again in this process. Once the sensor has been successfully initialised, the fault code that is stored in the fault memory is documented using the fault deletion counter. The fault memory erases itself automatically. The PSM indicator light in the instrument cluster goes out.
Be extremely careful on those test drives. If you get pulled over they can throw the book at you. No seatbelts, no mirrors, no windows, I didn't look to see if you had brake lights/tail lights, but all of those things can add up pretty quickly to a whole stack of violations. It won't just be a single citation for "driving half a car". The other thing that I'll say is that I had a car once throwing a dash light for the traction control system (or something very similar) because a brake light relay had died. So you could be getting some of those errors because not all of the components that it considers part of those subsystems are installed and connected at the moment.
Check the PASM box in the passenger footwell. They can be a little temperamental with the wiring. I remember I hit the box with something once and it threw the code. Made sure everything was connected by tightening connections and it went away
Congratulations! Your joy at having the first drive was plain for us all to see! Much like the sadness at having to trim the caterpillar in the previous episode!! Great job done well 😎👍🏻
I’m glad you start about those wheels. Here in Europe approx 99.5% of people would find them absolutely ridiculous. But also 99.5% would love your other cars ;)
Great work Mat, just spent a load of time dismantling my Turbo and rebuilding, spent a lot of time watching your vids to help me. If the car is off battery for too long it loses a lot of individual memory so you may need to do a Vehicle Handover in PIWIS, same if you've swapped modules etc. from another car. Most of those errors should go away once the car knows the modules are there and they communicate with each other. The fuel tank may need to be recalibrated, there is a process for this (again via PIWIS). Good luck.
Great videos Matt. Loving the build and looking forward to the end product. Just a tip. When using the handbrake push the button in when engaging the brakes. It saves the teeth on the ratchet. Otherwise they wear and when you least expect your handbrake won’t hold any longer.
I don’t know if you already did or not but don’t forget to torque all the suspension when you first started to move parts from the old car to this one!!! Don’t want to see you get hurt or damage anything 🙏🏻
Dude just the thought of how much work and emotional stress that would go into rebuilding a car let alone a Porsche is unbelievable.. seriously inspirational stuff! keep up the great work Matt!!!!
Just fill the gas tank and the level gauge will work fine … has to have at least half a tank to register on the float, bottom half is guesstimated by the ecu …..
Have the same situation with mine considering the gas. The gauge and trip meter does not move until I refill the tank more than half-full. PSM I would try to rotate the steering wheel completely to the right and left but. Just don´t remember if the car has to move or not. Try both.
The 997 is designed so that it requires a gas fill-up to hit a certain level until it will register. Based on the shape of the tank something like the last third of the gauge is actually just an estimate
As an owner of a 997.2 GT3. You might want to fill the gas tank completely. I know you said you have put numerous gallons in the car, but with my car, I have to get more than a half tank to get the guage to work properly. Unless checking the tank for what you're familiar with is that easy and not time consuming. Also, do you have aftermarket suspension? That could be why the PASM light is on. But I'm not sure about that since I still have stock suspension.
To diagnose all the electrical issues I think you’re going to have to get your hands on PIWIS software. Version 2.x will suffice for this car. Without it you might be chasing ghosts. The software is not very hard to come by but the specific odb2-connector is. Happy hunting
F@ck yeah buddy!!! Just have a look at the right rear wheel, it's at a weird angle! Those other errors are easily fixable, just make sure those sensors are correctly connected and pins aren't bent. So next up is all the fun cosmetic stuff
Hi Matt. God only 6mts. It Seems away longer than that. It's so good to see it back on the Road lol. And Running so Perfect. It's such a Credit to you Matt. Well done. 😅🇨🇮
Great progress. Looks like a bit of a deathtrap in it's current state. What vin do you use for registration? Donor car? It would be crazy if it has a clean Carfax.
Well done Matt.....all your hard work & dedication has rewarded you with a 997 turbo that runs smoothly, without any major problems.......happy for you! However, please, please, please don't take this unfinished car out on the public roads again until ALL the usual things, like seatbelts, airbags, lights, seats, bodywork, etc are all fixed in or on the car. I can't even begin to count the number of offenses that had been committed in that admittedly short test drive. The UK police would have loved you & I'm sure it would be the same in your part of the US too! Keep up the great work ! 👍👍
My 997 turbo has the same fuel gauge issue. What makes it work for me is filling it up all the way. Sometimes I run it low and running to get to work. I only fill it up halfway sometimes and it will show that it’s low or empty.
I'm sure you have already checked, but make sure those wheel spacer don't allow the tyres to touch your lovely newly painted guards on full compression!
@@matt13ross The E36. It's possible that it isn't for the e36 but maybe the e90 series. I have some from when I did my system but it could have been for the E93. Hopefully i will be buying my t56 in the next couple of weeks for the e36LS build. (Fingers crossed) Oh well, still like the truck wheels!!!
@@matt13ross yeah I guess that makes sense, because it's a GT3 that's been to the track. I've got a 997.2 Carrera S, and I'm used to that spec lmao. *I was just kidding about the truck wheels.

Congratulations on getting it running. The exhaust sounded great to me.
Coming together nicely. The rear looks awesome without the tail lights. Looks like the 991 model especially in the colour

Not sure on wheels yet!
🔧 awesome job Matt
For the tank level, you should top it up, It happened to me, I solved it that way
Soul exhaust for the win!
Some dead battery codes will need to be cleared with a proper scanner, then try to drive, some miles with different speeds.
Nice work man, nothing of what you’ve done is easy. Huge accomplishment ✅🤜🏼🤛🏼

lol I was literally thinking to comment on your truck wheels when you said that! Subscribed!!
Haha thanks for the sub!
Hope you make a video doing cable management once you start tackling the interior!!!
Which ones? They're all OEM lol

Well I wasn’t going to say anything about your truck tyres but now that you told us not to….😂😂 I like them as much as I like the stach.

Awesome work! Must be so rewarding! That tweeting noise is definitely a bad turbo or exhaust manifold gasket.
Yes I gotta look into that.
Faulty brakelight Switch causes PSM Errorcodes.
Replace it with OEM Porsche part. Costs around 20$
Fixed my PSM light.
Oh hell yeah!
I have a 997 turbo and gas issue will go away after you fill 1/2 way it’s a u shape gas tank with one float..
I feel like it's over 1/2 way.
Hell yeah, use that 93 octane gasoline! Those truck wheels though...🤓
15:21 maybe it's just me, but the camber on the rear wheel looks way off.
