When are people going to learn? Nothing happens in Baator that isn't part of Asmodeus' plans. If you think you're pulling one over on him, he's got you exactly where he wants you. 🤦

I mostly agree. But an aspect of Tiamat roams Avernus (I think). I guess I look at possibly a greater god, certainly a powerful draconic one, and think, "does Asmodeus allow Tiamat to, for example, gate in devils, or does he bend over backward to not cross her"

Would add that, again, very much opinion, but I see a strong opportunity for narrative involving the Abishai. Whom do they serve? She is their creator.

glasya is her father's daughter, she plots and schemes on behalf of her father waiting till the day that she can assume his power. Her father would not have it any other way, what makes asmodeous well...himself is that he has so many pieces on the playing field that she never has the chance to make it happen. Glasya is a powerful ally, one whos greed is predictable and as long as asmodeous can stay many steps ahead of the schemes of his allies and his enemies he can count on his daughter to do what she does best until one day she gets the best of him. either way asmodeous is a proud father.

Asmodeus from AD&D2ndE Planescape and the Guide to the Nine Hells, feeds directly off of souls from people that commit suicide. Did a few mini games where the PC loses all faith and commit suicides but still stubborn enough to have some faith and belief in themselves. They show up in the Ninth Layer seeing the unimagine truth of reality before them.
Then on a daily bases roll int/wis/cha checks to keep from losing their sanity, and experience slow regeneration as cornugon devils claw at them and drop them off of cliffs.
If the PC manage to gain sanity points they transform into free willed fiends or wights.
What is the nature of endurance, ..?
Even in death you can not escape from one's own self.

Oh, and I am with you on Asmodeus orchestrating everything. I mean, Asmodeus doesn't just live in Baator, he's such a part of it that he essentially *IS* Baator. Coincidentally, I made her often have her fingers in cults, thieves' guilds, and command Erinyes in the Prime Material in my campaigns in the 80s... sometimes opposing other "Nine Hells" forces in the process. She seemed to fit even back then. I admit my interest was first lured in by my lust for her artwork. Don't judge, I was a teen. ;p

really where did you find this?

    • @LightStreak567
      @LightStreak567 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@Scortch-lo3xy From a D&D 3rd Edition sourcebook called "Lords of Darkness". In the pages detailing Sfena, it says she was born in 1278 DR, that is three years before the events of the Icewind Dale game, and she founded the Iron Throne 21 years before the Baldur's Gate game's story in 1347 DR. She was trained as an assassin in Baator, working for her mother Glasya (The identity of Sfena's father is a mystery) who kept her on a tight leash and prevented her from advancing in the baatezu hierarchy.
21 years before the Baldur's Gate game, during a mission on Faerûn, a strange incident occurred when she was captured by storm giants: her body transformed into a hard crystalline substance, which had the effect of removing her connection to Baator, forcing her to stay in the Material Plane. Sfena decided to create the Iron Throne as method to cure herself. Her plan was to construct a rich and powerful mercantile organization and trade it to a powerful devil in exchange for a cure. Even though the iron crisis was stopped by Sarevok's sibling who was raised by Gorion, Sfena still managed to make the Iron Throne fairly rich in the few following years. But in 1371 DR, which is two years after the events of Baldur's Gate 2 Shadows of Amn (and one year after Throne of Bhaal) and one year before Neverwinter Nights, Sfena was betrayed by her lieutenant, a male half-moon elf named Maready tipped off Glasya on where her daughter is, and Glasya forced Sfena to return to the Nine Hells, allowing Maready to take over as leader of the Iron Throne.
With this information in mind, its easy to realize that selling the Iron Throne to a devil when it is the richest mercantile organization in exchange for a cure for her condition is the very reason why she permitted Sarevok's foster father's plan to poison all the iron in the Sword Coast and hoard all the pure iron so that people will buy weapons, armor and farming tools made out of pure iron from them, which would make the Iron Throne filthy rich.

I can imagine that Asmodeus may know that this was his plan, but Glasya believes she's getting away with the whole thing. I can also imagine that even Asmodeus is himself playing the role of puppet, perhaps to a master he thinks he bested & killed. The Nine Hells are a fantastic web of intrigue. Who knows, maybe even the Blood War as a whole is part of a larger plot to say ensure the Illithid pan temporal Empire all run by a Supreme Elder Brain, or other such mastermind?

@@AJPickett why not throw in a Matermind who has never revealed himself at all? It's not hard to imagine such a force being able to completely erase all of his history through assassination & memory corruption.
A GM could mine other settings for the puppeteer behind Amadeus besides D&D, even if they have a D&D counterpart. From In Nomine you could pull Kobal the Prince Of Dark Humor, he's using the Blood War & the War of Good versus Evil to weave a cosmic joke by the general upon the particular.
Also in the RPG In Nomine Kronos is in control of the concept of Fate, the worst possible future, I can Chronos as a Yugoloth ascended to Godhood running both sides of the Blood war to drive the Multiverse into an Entropic ruin of wreckage & misery before finally snuffing it out altogether.
The Eldest Brain could be another such Mastermind, it acts as a Pan-Temoral MEGA Brain using all of the lesser Elder Brains as neuron bundles & the illithid as nerve endings, the slaves of the mind flayers are the equivalent of muscle tissues etc. Basically this mastermind is a giant organism that is spread out across all of interplanar space time.
The final option is to go META & have the characters find out about the nature of their existence & realize that they are merely playthings of other intelligence on a higher realm of existence. IE the characters find out that there really is a Gaming Operations Director (GOD,) or Gaming Operations Director Doing Sadistic Stuff (GODDESS.)

    Her failures? Planned.
    Her acts of rebellion? Staged.
The stories of her deeds? Propaganda.

Well, of course he doesn't. He just puts that ambition to use. Look at the arch Devils. Most of them would gleefully betray Asmodeus and he knows it. But he keeps them all balanced against each other so they never dare make a move. So that the only safety to be hard is in law. HIS law. Grinding that into them until they cannot imagine ever going against it. But there is always cleverly manipulating the letter of the law for your benefit.

Mephistopheles also openly and flagrantly vies for Asmodeus' throne, to the point Asmodeus is just as openly annoyed by him, but he keeps Mephistopheles around because he's useful. I think the same goes for Glasya. He knows neither of them would be able to properly take him down, not with the amount of surveillance he has on them, but he knows they're good at what they do and he has to choose whether he wants someone good at the job or someone that isn't constantly scheming against him. And good luck finding the latter anywhere in Hell.

Glaysa is so interesting, I wish she got more focus. Shes literally the daughter of Asmodeus, like how unique can a devil get? Maybe one day we will get an adventure path where she and Fierna are major players.... Like a Reckoning of Hell 2 type situation but instead of devils fighting devils its adventurers being used as pawns in an infernal chess game. I can see the archduchesses trying to off their fathers, but taking on Asmodeus is a big nono so theyd prolly just be eliminating Levistus and Belial.

So if you buy into the belief that Asmodeus is actually the creator being Ahriman, that would make Glasya something akin to a deity herself by birthright. If that were true then either Asmodeus is keeping her power potential in check, or the fact that she was sired by his Avatar and not him directly means that she was never meant to inherit but a fraction of his power.

Asmodeus already knows all that she could use to steal that divine spark he wretched from his brother and nurtured since. Who better, right? All of it is a blank space that has been filled in after these figures were written up and put into the game setting by the original authors.. they didn't care about the little biological details, if demon or devil lords want to produce offspring, spawn, minions or monsters, they do something flashy, evil and magical that there is a chance adventurers or rivals can mess with in the form of a dramatic, story event... otherwise, it doesn't really matter at all right?

Glasya has been stuck with the unenviable task of playing Dragonchess against the man who invented it, after herself just learning the fundamentals of Checkers.
She's a serious contender that definitely takes after her father and displays incredible potential, but... well, Asmodeus is Asmodeus. That's going to end as well for her as he decides it does.
I've come around to the conclusion that the only way to defeat Asmodeus is to come at him with such overwhelming force and power that no amount of scheming could even hope to turn things around. Unfortunately for those interested in seeing him dethroned, I'm pretty sure the only known beings capable of this are Ao and Tharizdun. Ao, being Ao, never would, and if Tharizdun ever gets sufficiently free to attempt the deed, then the fate of Asmodeus is the least of the multiverse's concerns.
Also, it seems likely that Glasya's Devils assist mortals in getting out of contracts even if the mortal refuses to enter one with her. The Devils surely act as if they won't (if they can squeeze something out of you, they're sure to try), and I'm certain the vast majority fall for it hook, line, and sinker, but it only makes sense that they would assist regardless. It's a fantastic way to undermine her enemies and curtail their growth and power, and it costs her literally nothing. I suspect this is essentially unknown do to the fact that almost all would go for the deal, and those who don't are probably threatened with a fate far worse than death if they mention the assistance to _anyone._

There's also the matter of Armaros, one of the"Rabble of Devilkin" (powerful devils who were stripped of their positions for one reason or another, but are considered too valuable to kill. supposedly, he's one of the most powerful Archmages in the multiverse and even more powerful than asmodeus, who is the only one allowed to visit him. • @venkelos6996
    @venkelos6996 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

A thing that always confused me is that Glasya is "just a Devil". Whatever the various Lords of Hell are, she is like another one of them, but Asmodeus is not. His own backstory is complicated, but it's weird that whatever he really is, or whatever projection he can make I'd, can unite with one of them, or a fallen Angel; whatever Bensozia was, and create Glasya. She doesn't seem to have any exceptional power, beyond being a mighty, unique Devil. She didn't seem to inherit any abilities from Asmodeus, as a great, winged serpent thing, and that always made me wonder if he just "created" her as his daughter, as another power play within the hierarchy? I also assume that even she knows nothing about his true form, and secret objectives, whether she is of his blood, or not.
Maybe it's just the Evil part, but I am always surprised with how conniving, and backstabbing, Devils are. Law is a part of them, and I always assumed that they craved, even needed hierarchy, rules, and contracts, but then every one of them looks to break things; twist outcomes to their benefit, and grab up as much as they can. It's almost like they are secretly Chaotic, bur averse to actually breaking the rules, so they struggle to find holes, and they seem incapable, every single one of them, to find any benefit in their current spot, or the success of the system they set out to make. Maybe they need to be that way to rise to such lofty heights, and maybe only the Lawful Neutral of Mechanicus could so enjoy just being a cog in the wheel, instead of the will behind what the machine does, but while it is predictable that they'll connive, I'm always surprised none are without naked ambition. I had an idea for a character, and Glasya was actually related to it, which is why I bring all this up here, but part of hus theme was loyalty; just to her, instead of a more worthy monster. I get that trust is impossible for such a being, even when Law is important, but he would be very loyal to her ,and try to achieve her goals. His ambition would be to see hers realized, and hope to be appreciated, and fawned over by her, in payment for his services, but maybe then he'd still be the bizarre, unique example among the lot. I obviously never got there, as the part if bring an adventuring character, doing whatever, would actually feel minor compared to entering her service, and doing her bidding, hoping that at least a fragment of actual appreciation might squirm into her, despite what she really is, but it still sticks with me, from time to time.

I read in one 3.5 source that the only devils who can bear children are erniyes, brachina (which are evolved erinyes) and unique females like Glasya; with the first two, it might have something to do with how they're direct descendants of the original host of fallen angels that, er, fell with Asmodeus.
Male devils, however, cannot sire offspring with other devils, but they can with mortals, and most sources say that can be worse than being killed by one.

So.. like nudibranchs, try to stab the other with a harpoon penis because the loser has to rear kids which causes them to become weak and usually die post child birth.
      New lore discovered?

Nailed it. They’re not constrained as mortals are, so why wouldn’t they? Address them as they appear (if your characters are so brave), or by an honorary/title, if it’s been made known. Refer to them however you want; doesn’t matter if they’re not there.

I mean since true polymorph is a thing in dungeons and dragons anyone of high enough magical power can but it’s more than likely they will mostly keep to mail forms as they are a humanoid and the humanoid male form is stronger thereby being more suited to fighting and b It’s probably part of a self image thing once you’ve spent 1000 years looking one way you probably don’t want to change too much

Ok so, I’ve been subscribed for a while and I’ve gone back to watch the older videos, but never once have I heard an explanation for why we call this “the mighty glue stick”. May I ask where that came from?😅

AJ started the channel crafting D&D figures and sets for tabletop play. He would talk about lore as he crafted. The lore took over. The name remains. :)

Why would anyone take Glasya up on that offer? Your soul is forfeit either way

If I were to guess, it'd be more like the sort of deal you make with a debt consolidator, or ambulance-chasing lawyer, combined with the promise of giving you a better deal for your "money" on top of getting you out of your previous arrangement. You're still boned, but in a way that's easier to swallow.

AD&D2e " Guide to the Nine Hells,"
Glasya first appear in D&D in this book, more or less. My first games shop I went to at 21 years old ran some ranches games with her character. Any player who had a character that figure out how to make Soul Stones/ Coins had Glasya showing up in game along with night hags.
When 3e came out, we just pushed her up into lesser god hood and ran Glasya at the challenge rating of a Titan CR25. We even ran a campaign where everyone had to draw an index card as to what character we were playing that given day. So we all took turns playing a teenage Glasya on a power trip. Sounds really silly but if your character can't teleport cause the location prevents it, and you have to run for you life from demons. The game goes from silly to " dam I don't want to lose another character level Hd when I end back up in Baator again."
