I am so appreciative of the fact that they specifically said he didn't get lucky and talked about all the training he has done to be prepared for this exact situation.
Well thank god you’re appreciative
Now I can go on with my life.. wow
Yes, his training surely helped a lot, but he still got lucky too.
@@ottomatic3123 Are you surfers ??? Because IN FACT: he WAS unlucky... His training saved him.
Me, too. I love that he got back out there and surfd another 3-4 hours. Way to go.
@@GUELLOX4 who peed in your Cheerios? The OP is right; it's refreshing to hear how someone prepared for a situation like this young man did. A good lesson many people certainly need to learn, and a worthy reminder for the rest of us.
I was body surfing in the pacific ocean around 1982. A wave slammed my body to the ocean floor like i was a rag doll. I remember the wave holding me down and my body scraping the ocean floor...my face scraping on shells. I lost sight of up and couldn't see the sun...i swam up as i could and it took forever to get to the top as i gasped for air. The ocean nearly took my life that day...God had other plans. Im thankful to be alive.
I wasn’t surfing, but when I was a child in Mexico I was standing on the beach in the water and I had my back facing the water and I was at this particular beach that was known for dangerous waters/monster waves and some massive wave came up from behind me and everything went black and all I remember is waking up on the sand. Another wave ended up throwing me back on the beach. The Heavenly Father definitely saved my life that day and continued to do so through out my life.
and that was only a 3 foot wave
and that was only a 3 foot wave
WHOA!!! 👏🏽👏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
witch god?
The implementation of the inflation vests has saved so many lives for sure.
If he didn’t have that he was toasted
I agree
“You train to survive the wipeout, you don’t train to…”. That was a GREAT quote! It applies to everything in life. Well done! 🤙🙏
Yeah I read a quote about disaster response that echoes something similar: "you don't rise to the occasion, you sink to the level of your training."
1:55 - the shutting off your mind to accept the beating is the truth. Making yourself ultra relaxed through the worst of it really does work. Can’t imagine the difficulty at Jaws.
Major respect to this young man!
"I like to go into the darkest part of my brain and shut everything off... and pretend my forehead didn't just touch the middle of my back."
Everyone who wears a vest needs to say, "...thanks Uncle Shane..." 🤙
💯 no air in your lungs = no survival without that tech 🙏
Exactly his training had nothing to
Do with it lol
@@BandchoAKASAINTZILLHis experience and training had a LOT to do with his survival!
@@BandchoAKASAINTZILL his training had EVERYTHING to do with it. Take your lols elsewhere.
Gnarly .. great his training paid off
Best back flips gymnastics I have ever seen and on a monster wave. 10 out of 10. This guy deserves a gold medal.
He got the best waves of the day after that wipeout.
the year?
So heavy. Much respect.
Glad to see this young man is doing ok, I saw the wipeout on another channel but there wasn’t any discussion of if he was all right. His preparation + the vests did exactly what they are supposed to and thankfully his talent will continue to shine for us landlocked surf dreamers!
"Skippin' over the ocean like a stone" - Harry Nillson
😂
"Whoooaaaaaa woooaaaaaa wa waaaaaaaaa " 😂😂 Love this song, it's on my 70s playlist.. my car music...
ohhhh how i love and miss harry!!!
Man harry Nillson with the facts
Hats off to Ty for going back out! Never saw a wipe out as bad as that!!!
Obviously you don't watch a lot of surf videos.
This is an exceptional young man. Big cojones!
Probably a contender for Wipeout of the Year
But he wasn't even close to dying so he'll probably don't win it.
Of the century. I haven't been surfing for long but it's the most brutal Wipeout i seen so far contending closely with a the guy who got shot out of the Nazaré wave i believe... I think it's the guy that broke his back.
@@Ultorvindex That was dumb..
Idiot of the century
Thank God he was trained to maneuver and endure the Wipeout.
Santa Cruz surfer here. I have so much respect for Ty. I’m not even *half* as skilled as he is. I was just at Mavericks watching from shore and was amazed. I hope Ty is safe out there. I’d hate for what happened to Mark Foo happen to him. Same for his freediving adventures. I hope he’s careful. I knew Jay Moriarty and he died while freediving.
Mavericks was crazy, and I was sorry to see what happened to the Santa Cruz Wharf. I hope the rest of the Wharf does okay.
reminds me of the great movie "The Big Blue" (also a great place on Koa Tao for a dive vacation)
the inflatable vest definitely helped
Saved his life*
@ yes it did
Awesome wave and ride and just as awesome wipeout. 10 out of 10! 🌊
The textbook definition of surf warrior.
I love that thisbis news in Hawaii and i like the lingo.
This guy is so monotone and calm about it. I think it takes a lot to get any emotions or reaction out of him. He’s like a rock, literally just the way he skipped down the face like a skipping rock.
Never go back out after a major crash call it a day.
The first time I cartwheeled on the water doing 100 km was the last time I ever water skied😂
Last time I fell off a 4 story building I also walked away relatively unscathed. 😂😂
Yessah Maui No Ka Oi💪🏽🤙🏽
What a legendary moment
You think this would be survivable without the inflation suit ?
Not too confident it would be. The safety aspect has come so far. Still...what bravery, what commitment, what poise, stunning performance by these young men. Mind blowing.
Being that he had the wind knocked out of him I doubt it would have ended well without the safety gear!
To be honest no, this guy hit the water and it was worst case scenario getting the wind knocked out then getting pushed deep probably 6-10 feet underwater with your board tombstoning right below the surface so pulling the cord on the inflatable vest is a life saver. How could he have swam back up to the surface after getting completely winded and then imagine how turbulent the water is after that wave smashed.
Definitely wouldn’t want to find out. Dude put the work in to make sure he could survive though
It wouldn't be survivable had he lost consciousness, either, because then he wouldn't have pulled the cord.
when I was young I used surf, people have no idea of the force & power unleashed here. it's a miracle anyone survives these monsters.
why do i feel like only in California or Hawaii news will you hear someone say "gnarliest"
Geez that is amazing. So glad he survived.
Yikes! The wind got knocked out of me and I was doing those cartwheels with no air in my lungs.
That sounds like a tad bit of a challenging situation.
Wow!! I’m glad he’s ok!!!
Mahalo!
This guy’s a Super Athlete. My Man. I will be watching for ya.
Not sure you’d be unscathed if you hit a brick wall at 80? Glad he got some more waves after the wipe out.
That’s what I was thinking like you’d be skinned alive according to his description
Hit a wall at 80 your dead. This dude is exaggerating. Well done for surviving but you can't compare this to crashing your car into a wall🙄and if your forehead touches the middle of your back I'm pretty sure you would have a spinal injury. But cool to watch. Glad he's OK. And lives to tell the tale
@@Animists-Autism-Channellol he’s a kid.. plus doesn’t seem like a guy you’d have an educated conversation with …
Thank God you are ok! Never forget to thank Him!
If you had the ability to go back out for several hours just for the thrill of it, you certainly exaggerated the nature of the impact - 80 mph into a brick wall, the kind of impact that would kill a man. As somebody who has fallen down a mountain, I can tell you that a serious accident leaves a person wanting to call it a day. While I’m glad that this video preaches the significance of training, your story is an exaggeration, a distraction from actual disasters suffered by people whose accidents actually or very nearly equate to (or exceed) the brutality of 80 mph impact into a brick wall, whereafter even basic mobility is a serious challenge if not impossible.
Boss! 🙌 big respect to big wave riders.
Without that vest? He woulda died. These guys amaze me. Love watching.
Im pretty sure 80mph into a brickwall would leave catastrophic damage to the body, not a very realistic comparison. I understand its extreme and dangerous but I'd pick the wave over the brickwall at 80 every single time.
Getting held down by white water for long periods is terrifying and mentally challenging. I’ve been held down in big surf w/o floatation in the washing machine. It’s brutal. I cannot fathom this size waves.
Respect!!
Ohhh to be 20! That’s when you can handle and sometimes easily recover from these types of things. Be smart. Be brave and go for it. Yolo. But I’m sure his practice and dedication to learning and perfecting his craft paid off tremendously. Way to go young man!
Incredible survivor- ride em Son! ❤
Glad you're ok, dude.
If you hit a brick wall doing 80mph you would without a doubt be dead. Its silly when people compare hitting water to a brick or concrete wall.🤦♂️
Braddah is craaazy!!!
He caught some great waves that day.
5 min breath 🫁 holds... impressive AF 👌👍👍 surfs up dude 🤙
Glad you're okay
I watched that wipeout a bunch of times yesterday. Great wreck, lifetime hilite reel for the guy. I cast it to my big TV so my wife could see it. She was not stoked.
I’ll do the same and my wife totally misses the point and will comment on how nice and sunny it is there or how she wants to go on vacation …..
Well, there are some wives surfing this now so not every woman misses the boat…
0:30🤣🤣 Priceless Description. He's lucky to be Alive.
While I appreciate the courage and commitment it takes to surf waves of this magnitude, I really think we are going to hear in the future about CTE effecting these guys.
Nuts to think guys did this no leash with birdwells god bless co2 vests
he had the much improved n 2 o
@ nice
Surf Warrior His training paid off Glad he’s Ok ❤
The primal rush of being deep in the curl, water surrounding you on all sides. The energy of a typhoon roaring all around you. You feel the different textures of the water shifting under your board. Trying to rip it out from under you. And IF, you do everything just right. There's a slim possibility you'll shoot out the wave and begin the '"ride". How long that ride lasts, is determined by the unfathomable complexity of it all. Can't imagine something more intense.
Peace!
Dude.....awesome wipeout!!!
Nothing awesome about it..
Just amazing!😲❤
Clearly this guy has never crashed his vehicle at 80 miles an hour into a brick wall or anything else and it's probably never fallen off of anything higher than a countertop because if it really did feel like that then he definitely would have been dead
This wipeout was a little more worst than Makua Rothman's wipeout but Makua's wave was a lot bigger.
No matter what people think of Mr Galland Sr, he's a father who lost a son to something he doesn't understand, and he probably feels like he failed his son. That's a tragedy compounded.
My boy is tough dough. Im glad he good
I'm sure it was quite a rough crash but to say that it was like hitting a brick wall at 80 miles per hour??? If you did do that you would be dead. Real fast.
Happy he’s ok!
The epitome of rag-dolled.
Now that is commitment!
He will certainly be ready for Mavricks when he gets back.
God given
If you hit a brick wall at 80 you would be dead...duh
I went out on 18 foot day , man that day was a bad day got held for couple more waves with my leash snapping . Only thing was hold my breathe see which way I floated that’s what saved my life lay your body out like air glider it will help which direction you need to go
" . . . settle in for the beating. " I feel ya, brah.
he had so many good ones during that session
Wow 😮
Glad you are okay !
😮 wow!!!❤
Wholly Shiite brah I'm glad your OK and survived 🙏 ❤❤
That’s being ejected out of the car onto the freeway at 80 mile an hour! Interesting training for relaxation, kind of like how intoxicated drivers avoid the worst injuries due to being in such a limp relaxed state after a major crash!
3 or 4 more hours after a "slight whiplash?" Whoa.
THE ONLY THING UNUSUAL ABOUT THIS WAS THAT HE HAD AN INFLATABLE LIFE VEST.
Glad he is ok 👍Super Heavy Yikes!
PEARL!! And oh man, I was thinking he was gonna body board that out for a min. Wipe Out of the Year? 🤙
“Just some casual whiplash”
The Guy Is A Ultra Expert and His Youth Is What Saved Him..
I was held down 2 waves once at Todos Santos and it's life changing when you experience something like that..and it ages you fast.
Sincerely,

Certified Boogie Man 69 GOD RAP GOD C The Real MC Ghost 👻
Thank Jesus you are ok!
Nice to hear he had on an inflatable vest. That saved his life, I'm sure.
Never seen one like that
Media "whoa"
Jaws "next please"
😅
Goin hard man😎
These guys are awesome
The Eddy is tame compared to Jaws
I think he's gonna need a bigger board.
Hammah!💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Who else thought this was a shark attack ?
love from brianhead
I thought I was a pretty good body surfer until I grabbed, or got grabbed, by a wave when I visited Hawaii. I was used to the waves in Florida. I was near Diamond Head when I swam out a little ways to catch a wave. I saw a pretty big swell coming towards me and started swimming to catch it.Before I knew it the monster had broken and slammed me under it. I didn't realize how much water was in the wave! All this happened to me in '69 while I was on R&R from Vietnam. I knew I was out of my league real quick so I got out of the water. That's been over 50 years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday.
Eardrums will get blown out
The buoyancy popped him up
Glad you popped back up that was gnar gnar! I wonder what brand name vest he was wearing. I had one fail, but his did not.
I warm people about getting the wind knocked out of them and being KO’d at the same time. If this ever happens to someone they will sink, and then involuntary apnea will fill the lungs with salt water causing cardiac arrest and drowning.
Stay awesome, my friends!
Nerves of steel.. I think you mean balls!!!!💯
