Cool vid. When I played in Kunark I played Iksar that traveled to Antonica in my 20s, so kinda reverse of the video (iksar trying to survive in Antonica cities). But I'm so familiar with Kunark zones to this day and could traverse them by loc and zone walls; spent a lot of time in warsilks at giant fort soloing and loved dalnir. It was a lonely zone but I was kind of a loner. Swamp of no hope was cool too, but I found it more difficult solo than a lot of others
I played a Iksar war and a friend convinced me to do the same thing. We were in our 20s at the giant fort in warslick when he convinced me. What a run. Going through OT was terrifying. Killing the guards in EC to get xp and NFreeport faction ahh that was something I'll never forget
The EverQuest Bard is quite possibly my favorite MMO class of all time. The flexibility and versatility of the class, as it fits into the game design of EQ specifically, is absolutely perfect.
@@Nowthats Amen to that, I ain't gonna lie my hands loved the auto song stuff even if I hated it lol. I also feel the same, the only class I can never find again in any mmo and I miss it so much I play emu to get a taste here and there.
Glad to see new videos, it brings me so much joy to see EQ players of all varieties step foot on p99. What is taken for granted in other versions is daily life.
I can feel the fear from 25 years ago!! I was 15 years old, staying up late at night alone in the dark smoking weed and playing this game. Really the only video game I’ve ever played (besides like Nintendo, sega etc as a young kid, have never played video games as an adult). You did a great job of painting the picture as to why this game is so exhilarating, and nerve wracking, but no one will ever really know. And I was playing when there were no guides or any websites or social media, i mean you were in the game and _literally everything_ was adventure, risk, discovery, mystery, unknown, oh and did I say RISK? I eventually committed to a Rogue, at a certain point enough players had gotten high enough level (40’s) and after that enough had done so with the very little played Rogue and had gotten to level 50, highest level, and it became known Rogue was one of thee best classes around, certainly highest DPS, broken really, so I picked rogue and committed and got him to 56 (by that time the level cap had changed to 60) and that’s when I stopped and gave my account to a friend. At that point rogues of my level were selling (the accounts) for up to $5000 US cash.
Just started on Green. I come from FFXI Classic (Horizon, basically the P1999 of FFXI, with ~1000~3000 players online usually, currently) and played a little bit of EQ1 back in 2001 too. Very similar games, really, both last bastions of the classic MMO experience not found anywhere else, from the long time it takes to level up, to the total group focus (in FFXI Classic grouping starts after level10~15, so a bit later than in EQ1, but still), to danger of the world and difficulty of monsters, down to having support classes and crowd control spells... very similar games indeed. Even many of the the comon terms used (NM is one that always comes to mind). There is even a version of the EC Tunnel in FFXI Classic: the Rollanberry Fields Player's Bazaar (what you call Bazaar in EQ1 is called Auction House in FFXI, and Bazaar in FFXI is the direct player seeling/trading. There is a considerable Auction House tax which is huge for more expensive items and many item can't be Auctionhoused but can be player Bazaared and/or traded, hance both the Auction House and player informal trading, as well as WTB/WTS/WTT shouts/yells coexist). Oh, and Bard in FFXI is an advanced job you have to unlock, one that at higher levels require a lot of skill to play (the player has to maintain different "spheres" of area buffs usually, one for casters and another for tanks and damage dealers, and has to keep refreshing them up back and forth as well using other spells, pulling and giving occasional help with heals and sometimes sleep mobs). Anyways, I stared a Dwarf Paladin, level10, just took the boat to Freeport, Lortheron is my name, if you ever want to say hi. : ) I just wanted to say thank you for all the tips and amazing series of videos you did here. Both your videos and my time in FFXI Classic inspired me to play EQ1 Classic on P1999 and I'm really loving it. Thank you. Much love dude. PS: please, if you have some time, check this video out, th-cam.com/video/MUAJ-cJbOFY/w-d-xo.html , I do think you'll be intrigued by the similarities and would to hear back from you about this.
As a 21 year old who grew up playing WoW but appreciates classic gaming, your videos are always a window into a period of time I never got to enjoy myself--I'm a little too impatient for EQ (especially P99) myself, but I have watched pretty much all of your videos over the past few months. Thanks again for the great narration and content!
Dude, I'm in unrest now and grouped with Oyuun that shaman last night. Crazy. Lots of good players. Falconpuunch was killing it, shout out him Inyoback, Phreedo, Absinthium, Erin, Nivera and many more.
I remember when I played I used to think players that started during the Kunark era were noobs. I loved being an OG EverQuest player. I even fought in the Ranger best of the best tournament. This game gave me some of the best memories and friendships of my life. But it had to end for me to be where I am now with a beautiful wife and daughter. Gates of Discord put my obsession to rest. Thank you GoD :)
Ehi, i remember catching the stream that night! The high risk more earned reward mentality is what the Soulslike genre is all about, so I totally get how good earning stuff can be after a hard day's work. But the first two hours of playing for me were learning to navigate the wiki, dieing from fall damage in tge starting city, and trying to find my body. Probably more like two and a half tbh. What I'm saying is that there's difficulty, and there's deliberate obtusiness
I loved Dalnir, i especially loved tjhe boss, since for the longest time, only mage water pets could tank him because he had an ice proc on his attacks that would cut through people
10 seconds in and I realized you must have done the same thing I did. Back in summer of 2000, I reached the Field of Bone as a lv5 dark elf cleric, and around lv20, my guild helped me with invis and SoW to make the run through Cabilis to get to LoIO. I'll never forget how tense it felt the whole time.
Great video, started to play after watching reptox videos, made a necro and got it to 32 ish but irl grinding started so havent been on for a few months. This video reminded me why p99 was so awesome playing, make more of these !
Yoo explains the dark elf bard. And man still feel bad about some of those deaths at unrest. This we2low btw. Funniest thing about all of that some how we lived through all those big pulls hahaha, you saw just like last night
5 hours taking the boat around to get spells is why Norrath reminds me of America; hardly anyone takes the bus. People pay for porting, basically cars lol

You're kidding LOL I was just leveling through Unrest, stopped at having a 23 Rogue and a 22 Cleric like a few days ago, I've played with so many people from that area. Firedeez and Wetoolow are a duo, Oyuun is great and Inyoback is a really good Rogue. To think I could have said hi if I stuck it out just a little bit longer. =P Great video!!
Another great video! Bards are so much fun. EQ did a good job of making the classes so interesting, with such a simple overall concept. It is truly a special piece of history. But corpse runs definitely made you hate life!! Haha
The only place I remember having trouble with cabilis was near the shaman guild, but man that first run through without really knowing is a clencher for sure
Classic everquest is one of the bestt online 3d roleplaying games ever made due to needing to team up with people and the sense of discovery the game has
I picked this up for the first time in 2021 and I am SO glad I didn't play it back in the day. Even if I had internet and a computer to run it, this would have been the end of my life, never to be seen again. This game is so fuckin hard and it was the only thing and the best thing at the time. I would have been a problem player, I only got my paladin to 33 because I had a baton and a badass armor kit from my buddy that was showing me the ropes
Back on blue use to play with a pick up ikky shm, war mnk trio some high lvl took us to Dalnir .. we didnt know about the boss by zone out that AOE nukes… three hour CR got like 3hrs sleep that nite before work.. ugh. But did rockthat crecent armor till end game
4:48 I use to play classic when it was the main game, I got to level 35 as a kid. (I think max level at that time was around 40) checked zek: I've got a level 14 necro there
He keeps saying “I lost 20% expand traveled over an hour FOR NOTHING.” Huh? You earned a bunch of exp, you learned, you got an eating you can actually wear and likely other gear you can sell. Dudes acting like all that happened was he died twice in an hour. Now that happens. Sometimes you’re on for hours before even finding a group, getting an entire group together, getting all members to where you want to grind, and then your group wiped within 20 minutes, you spend another hour to get everybody back and loot corpses and start grinding again and shortly after you wipe and half your group leaves, and you can’t find anyone else to join and now it’s too late in the evening/morning and if you don’t have a class that can solo, that’s it you’re done. THAT… is for nothing. What this dude was not for nothing.

Holy smokes it's you. Thank you so much Flatts. Your videos inspired what I do. Gotta give credit where it's due.
Roll up a permadeath Reptox and come join us :D
Thanks for inspiring me to play p99- been having a blast and meeting good people. My 1st EQ experience has been a blast!

Oh that's sweet. Nice to hear about it coming back :)
Love you vids man. You're really good at telling stories with your adventures in EQ. Keep them coming!

Syriex and Grazo (after dying and releveling) of Legacy of Ik are still kickin it hardcore! Grazo is level 41 now and Syriex just hit 39!
I gotta get closer in level for us to team up again :)
If I had known I would have logged the druid on and got those spells for ya haha.

Oh no, just good old P99 here
Ion man. You make such great quality videos with your own unique twist!
Unrest was THE MOST BAD ASS at 1, SO effin’ scary-this was 1999/2000
Haha you "got Everquested"
I just had to. Saw that short you did of getting screwed over epically
Pre Plains of Knowledge, ouch travel so bad
Yeah it was brutal but the world felt bigger cause of it

Pro tip, even a bad dual analog stick is better than any keyboard/mouse for bard kiting in circles.
But a good controller can make a lot of things possible nowadays. Scripting macros for the buttons goes a long way
Love your edits! Hopefully we can play on green someday!
Thank you for watching. Yeah maybe someday we'll team up

p99 short on warriors or what?

Eq2 still populated?
I'm sorry but I just cannot understand why people would play on p99 except that its free?
It's not for everybody but for some the difficulty is gratifying when you do succeed.
