      my old 980 ti OCed to 1450, my new 1070 does around 2050. I only paid 5% extra of what i got from my 980ti when i sold it for my 1070 and i dont regret that. Wont be long now until Maxwell is left behind in the dust like nvidia is known to do with previous gen architectures.

  • @Grid21

      Of course the gtx 980ti requires more power it's so much more powerful than the 1070 and has way more texture units than the 1080 which they had to lose to make it more powerful by 10 fps

    Not feeling so bad about my 980ti now, even though I paid the full 650 for it...to be fair though I built new in Feb...so I had no idea what the new cards would offer and I couldn't wait to build a new system. My old system was 5 years old (core i5 750) with the exception of a GTX 970 I bought last summer. That system is now my Son's and it still does everything he wants to do just fine.

      @TheFather_ 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Science Studio ah sorry, haven't noticed it, did you ever think to repeat the test on 980 Ti OCed on 368.22 driver version?
      because i lost 10 FPS in Witcher 3 by updating to latest drivers, haven't tested other games but i rolled back either ways, this driver version is the best optimized for 900 series, and Nvidia as usual gimps older series performance on new drivers, remember kepler and maxwell drivers problem which showed how nvidia always gimps old series performance when new series comes out to better market them.

    • @GregSalazar

      Cards alone would draw a maximum of 300w together in full load but if you have something like a seasonic it should hold quite well a system that goes ~400 in full load assuming you have an i7. Performance-wise 2x 480's should be better but some titles have issues with both xfire and sli. I'm pretty sure a few days after release we'll have comparative benchamarks and if it truly reaches a 1080 then it should be the xfire should be the winner.

    I am glad to hear about this. I found your video to be extremely helpful and I am now informed about this. I will keep my 980ti for now and wait for 1080ti. I game both on 4K and triple monitor surround with 3 1080p monitors. I switch between those two setup depending on the games I play. I am hoping that 1080ti will be the dream GPU for no compromise gaming with at least surround gaming.

    weird.. this is the only benchmark vid showing the 980ti beating/matching the 1070... and the fps seems surprisingly low for 1080p.... maybe i should just go 1080p/144hz instead of 1440p/144hz

    • @franciscogarcia86
      @franciscogarcia86 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +MidWeSTi I've looking at that one, it combines well with my black/red setup. And Gsync is useless for a good card on 1080p

    • @MidWesti
      @MidWesti 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Francisco Garcia exactly. and yeah BenQ makes the "coolest" monitors IMO. from the style and color, to the headset hanger, the carrying handle, the metal stand, and the simple fact that its the official MLG monitor.. all these things have a "cool" value to them. not to mention quality and simplicity.
      right now my rig with the 1070 will be well over 60fps and in to the 100s.. Gsync is really only utilized when your dippin sub 40s.. 1080p 144hz will be perfection.

      No, they were not lying. His results are bogus. GTX 1070 reviews have been out for weeks, and almost every single one shows the GTX 1070 being faster in the vast majority of games. That includes some of the ones he used for testing. His big ego wouldn't let him admit that he was wrong when he made the video predicting the the GTX 1070 wouldn't be as powerful as 980 Ti and Titan X, so he did this. Pretty ridiculous.

      don't cry, most reviews are paid reviews plus a gtx 980 ti overclocked beats a 1070 overclocked. Just not stock and most vids you saw were stock speeds.

      @Kleptomaan1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yeah i agree, i would like to see how the dx11 vs dx12 performance would compare. to be honest i would like to buy a card that sees the performance improvements over dx11 since dx12 would be the norm for games coming out within the next year or two (especially AAA titles). For example i would be very pissed if i bought a 1080 and in dx12 the 490 performs better at a lower price point within a year or two. Sure dx11 will be with us for a while longer, but if you are someone like me that buys a 450$ -600$ gpu and expect it to last you another 4 years before your next upgrade, then this type of stuff matters.

    • @necrisro
      @necrisro 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Kleptomaan1 True, so much money does not allow missing technologies, which is why i sold my 960 when dx 12 titles dropped results, it would have been buried by the end of the year... that's why i will go with AMD's RX 480 this time around. Oh... and 200$ freesync monitors.

    Right now, buying a 980Ti secondhand is a lot cheaper than a 1070; average 980Ti ebay price is $400, but 1070 is about $700. Considering they offer such similar performance, and that I'm using the NZXT G12 GPU Watercooler, 980Ti is a clear winner during the GPU shortage.

    Hi Greg, it's a really nice and professional review although you have made one mistake. When I've gotten my hands on 1070 I also overclocked it to 1910Mhz and started my benchmarks (94.6 avg fps. in Valley Benchmark and mid-high 15000s in FireStrike) After few days i decided to check the temps. and performance after overclocking the vram to eff. 8500Mhz. And suddenly i see 100.1 avg fps. in Valley Benchmark and low 16000s in FireStrike) I think it's something to take into the equation. Greetings.

    This makes me even more happy to stay with the 980ti until the next iterations of GPUs arrive. It plays every one of my games @ 1440p flawlessly, and I'm so far behind on AAA titles in my Steam Lib. that I won't have time for new games that might tax the older card, like Deus Ex: HR, where it seems I might have to turn down shadows and other minor things to get smooth gameplay.

    Shoutout: Somone should seriously look into the whole coil whine thing and making a thorough investigation why it happens, if high quality PSU really makes a difference or maybe what you can do about it...
    There are a gazillion reviews of 1070 and 1080 out there, but close to no one even mentions coil whine as a problem or at all and I find it strange since I've had coil whine on one 970 and two 1070's on three different mid-range PSU's.

    Thanks for the comparison. I just would like to correct something: an SSD would help with game performance IF the game has constant active caching (GTA, sandbox games as an example) because a HDD will only transfer a sustainable rate of around 20'esh MB/sec to RAM compared to an SSD, average of 150MB/sec to RAM.

    Excited for the 1080TI, it'll most likely be the first non-Titan GPU I have in my system (unless for some reason the Pascal Titan is just THAT much more powerful than the 1080TI).
    *For the record I do not SLI, and I do not regret buying a Titan X one bit. :3 When I was building my system for school, the 980TI was still a little ways out, and I wasn't about to wait if I didn't have to. So I grabbed the single most powerful GPU I could.*

    Looks like I made a right choice with buying a used GTX 980 Ti for $380. I originally planned to get a GTX 1070, but here in South Korea they launched at $550. The price has dropped since then, but only to $490 at most, so that was when I began looking into used 980 Ti since I found the performance was roughly as good as 1070's although with less VRAM and more power consumption. Plus, I realized the GTX 1070 wasn't going to be a $379 card here.
    This test really was surprising though. I thought the 1070 would have a 5-10% lead on average instead of being completely neck and neck in most scenarios.

    *Finally* someone said it like it really is! Many on YT are fudging the matter because they are paid by Nvidia or have no idea what are they talking about (Linus and Jay im looking you xD). Nvidia`s Pascal architecture still doesn`t have proper, hardware-level aysnc compute. It`s just better in emulation via better preemption and context switching in comparison to Maxwell but cannot actually run the code as intended by developers. I also agree 1070 is not outright better than custom 980 Ti. Kudos as always Greg :).

  • @dsr07mm
    @dsr07mm 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    On paper 1070 should be better, but they are actually same. I was so close to add 80$ more for 1070 and sell my 980ti g1 but I didn't and I'm happy about that. With 1515/8000mhz I get really nice performance. So at the moment best market deal is already used 980ti which is at ~400e price point. I might just add one more 980ti on my EVGA850W G2 and wait for Ti version of 10xx cards if required.
