@@initial8648 Oh yes I remember a long time ago they banned pretty much everyone in a server, hackers and victims in it. I got targeted by some scripts and got tons of cash and who knows what else and couldn't play for a week after that.
It's fine anyways, online is grindy and not fun with all the script kids running around.

This is one of the only times that adding a gpu to a machine literally lowers your performance.
My neighbor did this to their boy. "upgraded" his PC with a GPU slower than the internal igpu.

Ditch the GT 210 for a used (no older than 2 generations behind current) midrange graphics card, double the RAM (either 2x4GB or 1x8GB), and add an SSD at least as a boot drive to complement the HDD, it would be a decent stop gap PC.
I've been there. Assembled a system for myself with i3 4150 (4400 HD Graphics) with GT 610. Not a good idea.
I think an interesting idea would be making this but instead of being focused on being slow focused on the newest 2022/2023 lowest end parts and see how well it performs

i don’t know about anyone else but the 210 would have been my go-to when someone had their onboard graphics fail and didn’t want to go for a more expensive option (like a new computer or a decent card). iirc the retail one can also be adapted to a half-height slot, so it’s useful to “fix” slimline desktops too. it’s not really a gaming video card, just an output card.
Exactly. I bought a 210 when my old PC's graphics card failed. Found it in my Amazon history - £27.56 in May 2011.
Wasn't any point in spending much more, as the PC was already 5 years old and not exactly a gaming powerhouse. Still ran Kerbal Space Program, Civilization V and Source engine games!

Or if there is any A4 series apu. Then underclock the cpu and gpu clockspeed and memory clock as well.
Then, get single channel ram and underclock that as well.
Get the lowest cache HDD possible.
Remove the fan for the cpu cooler.
Let it thermal throttle like crazy.

@@austin3171 I bought one for my headless server so I could hook up a monitor for debugging if I need it since threadripper doesn't have an iGPU. But that's hopefully the only reason anyone would bother.

The GT 210 is a fairly common display adapter for office pcs that don't have intergrated graphics, and can also be used for simple things like bonus display ports.

So technically its possible to lack an iGPU but its unlikely

I think the integrated GPU in the 3000G (with sensible memory configuration) is better than the GT210.
Totally, he could have invested those 40 bucks he used for the GPU on another 4gb of ram and use the APU's integrated graphics with dual channel memory and he'd have gotten better results at the same price, but meh...
Gt210 is for budget online gaming like crossfire,ran,mu,rf etc3x not for AAA titles or entry level cards.. athlon 3000g is much better than this by adding high frequency ram and low latency and make it 8gb or higher but not expect too much fps
Yeah the integrated graphics in the athlon are so much better then the GT210. He should revisit this with the graphics card removed

i agree, its not even a fair comparison. GT210s and GT710 are not sold as gaming graphics, they're sold as a solution to defective onboard graphics or boards that don't have onboard graphics. Heck, they sell those with passive cooling even!

That's nothing, I saw another pc youtuber buy a fake 1050ti from Wish and got scammed and was completely ragging on how bad the scammed card was, how no one should buy it or use it, how it can't game on even the lowest setting of popular titles....yeah, it was my GPU, and I routinely play WOW on it 🥲 In fairness though i did not choose it, I bought it secondhand when my good gpu went boom and I needed whatever was immediately available. And then I just... didn't replace it, since it was functioning fine 😂

The funny thing is that I built my first pc 2 days ago using an athlon 3000g and an a320 motherboard, a single 8gig stick because of expansion, a corsair cv450 watt and a deepcool matrixx 30.
I love how he could have gotten better fps with he integrated graphics on the cpu. But instead, he intentionally made the thing slower. Dedication.

Yes I have same cpu and motherboard but 16gb ram and a ssd without graphics card on low settings my pc run cs go very smoothly and gives 100fps average lol

yeah my school buy the intel i7 gen 8 and the funny thing is that I tried to overclock it and it worked it went from 4.2 to 4.9 ghz so it means that it has proper coiling
Still rocking a 1080 paired with a 5600 (all OC'd) and nvme gen4 and it plays the vast majority of games at 1440p almost maxed. Aside from a Strix board it wouldn't cost much more than your slowest config.

Bear Omega I agree to a point, if all you want to do is play games at high settings. That said, PCs have value beyond just performance. PCs have almost limitless capabilities. Beyond the workstation/productivity aspect, PCs also grant access to a number of popular gaming communities consoles can’t touch, such as DOTA, SC2, WoW, LoL etc. Also, XBox and PS4 require subscriptions for online play, PCs not so much. Furthermore, consider the communication options, open market of accessories, flexibility of control methods, upgradability, etc. So again, while I agree that graphics alone aren’t a good enough reason to go the budget PC route, the doors it opens are well worth the trade off, in my opinion.

@@danielmcmurray3106 I've since upgraded with a 2nd 8gb stick, an SSD (there wasn't one in there), a 2nd 2TB HDD (I just never delete games that I might possibly wanna play) and am currently getting ready to upgrade MoBo and CPU while throwin in an M.2 in the process.
HP love to put single channel memory into their laptops, even my HP OMEN was 1x 8GB instead of 2x 4GB. The former was better though as it instantly allows an upgrade to 16GB.
My advice: if you have single channel RAM, go and find another of the same RAM stick ASAP and make it dual channel; doubling the amount of RAM in the process.
My first gpu in 2021 was a gt 210 got from goodwill for 5$ with a 2130 and 8Gb of ram only could play Mc at 40 fps max with stutters lol

My first Windows computer was running Windows 95 on a 386DX 33 with 512k (I THINK) of RAM. If you read the minimum system requirements for Windows 95 off the side of the box that described my system.

If you do NOT want the kids to have a good gaming experience it's actually a good idea to do it that way. Hell, my college had the PC's connected to servers. They didn't have local drives in them so we couldn't install anything.

I got a used 6th gen i5 for about the same price as the Athlon as an upgrade for the pentium I had at the time and it was just for work. I later on installed a GTX 760 and I've recently been using that PC for playing all of my games and it's really good. I've been playing DayZ, rust, project zombiod, gtfo and very well
My college in 2011, used a pentium 3 system to teach us C++. It's clock speed was slower than my nokia 5230 then.

I bought a used pc for 300$ its ddr3 but 24gb ram 1600mhz , intel i5 4460 3.2 4core , AMD radeon r9 380 2gb , idk what the Mother board is but its an asus and yeah got it with a hdd just put a ssd inside works like a charm.

One thing linus didn't mention in particular is the hard drive itself. He obviously used a WD green, which, if you didn't know, lowers power consumption by slowing down the mechanical parts and read/write speeds. Most hard drives will range from 5400-7200rpm, some going to around 10000 if you are willing to spend some extra dollars on a little more speed, but the WD Green series are notorious for having only the 5400rpm option, with WD Blue having both a 5400 and 7200 option, but quite faster reads and writes.
As for what might make this pc even slower, I believe that you can get PCIe 1x to 16x risers, which would make each individual throughput from the 1x slot 16 times slower, though whether that would just make the gpu completely useless in of itself i don't truly know, it was just a thought that came to my mind when i saw that 1x slot.
