  • Director Yorgos Lanthimos and actress Emma Stone joined NYFF Artistic Director Dennis Lim for a Q&A following Bleat, a silent black-and-white short film set on a remote Greek island with a herd of goats. Showing for the first time since its Athens premiere last year and designed never to be presented with a recorded soundtrack, this unique 35mm screening of the silent film (an NYFF61 Spotlight selection) featured live accompaniment by an ensemble of musicians and a choir, performing pieces by J.S. Bach, Knut Nystedt, and Toshio Hosokawa.
    This film was commissioned for the program The Artist on the Composer, Bleat is a Greek National Opera (GNO) co-production with NEON, a nonprofit organization funded solely by its founder Dimitris Daskalopoulos. The annual program, which invites contemporary artists to create new works that embrace classical music performed live, is curated by GNO Artistic Director Giorgos Koumendakis and NEON Director Elina Kountouri. The GNO’s participation in this co-production and its U.S. premiere was made possible by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to enhance the GNO’s artistic outreach. Additional support for this New York Film Festival presentation was provided by Superprime Films.

    bleat looks amazing, i hope i'm lucky enough to watch it someday. Emma Stone is always beautiful and charming, but i noticed how she tried to be funny and teasing with Yorgos but he seems very shy 😅 that's why Ryan Gosling is missed in her interviews because he is the only one who responds to her provocations and jokes with the same grace

    Can't wait to see the film but this is a terrible Q & A . In the previous press conferences and interviews Yorgos seems very polite and his overall personality was so likable, which ironically contrasted with his films. May be the interviewer is too serious at times but this is a waste of 20 minutes.

    Worst QnA ever. They are talking about things THAT WE KNOW. What was the purpose for? What was the reason of this on-time stage? I know there was a strike on the industry but…as a cinephile, it was just a pure comedy. Not cinema.

    They are both so pretentious. why would you make a film no one can see!!!

    • @cinemmatics
      @cinemmatics 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      because maybe ... just maybe ... people are allowed to create art and decide with whom and in what context it's shared in! you aren't entitled to see it and you calling that pretentiousness is rather immature. it was filmed with an intention to be played in front of a live orchestra, hence it not being more widely accessible. if you listened to this q & a, you'd hear yorgos say it was commissioned by the greek national opera. they're not just keeping it exclusive for the hell of it, though they'd have every right to keep it to themselves, to friends and family, etc. it is a privilege to see someone's art, not a right. grow up.

      I don't believe in the same thing you believe in and you assume everyone else should. she is boring and very overrated .she is cute but a lot of ya'll drink the cool aid .Poor things is her shedding her good girl type roles and playing a prostitute with a lot of nudity and lots of sex. women want to be respected like men for their mind but always resort to sex to get attention.

      There goes that word art again, we have all be brainwashed that if we called some one an artist that it means what ever they do is creative ,we treat these people like gods.But treat the plummers and blue collars workers like crap.yet they keep the city running .I'd rather be stuck on an island with a plummer than a useless actor!

      It's created to been seen only with live orchestra... I saw it in it's premier in the national opera of Greece and I don't think it would be the same in an other setting...

    I really wanted to see "Poor Things" when I first saw the trailer and I love Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo, until I started seeing early reviews about what exactly was needed to show true female sexual liberation, which required freedom from any kind of shame, with rauchiness and horniness.
    A MAN wrote the book, a MAN wrote the screenplay, a MAN directed it, but I am really disappointed that Emma Stone, as producer went along with it.
    I'm old enough to be Emma's grandmother and I went through the sexual revolution as a teenager and young adult and the discriptions I have heard about the movie from reviewers and directors and stars is something I have heard before. Well, if you are really liberated then you will do this or try that otherwise you are not liberated. The author of the book is dead, but the other two seem to be insisting that the entire world should see their idea of actual liberation and Emma, if she is librated should be willing to do that.
    It doesn't really help describing the closed set with only 3 or 4 people other than the actors on the set, because today could be millions watching it. We can bet on how long it will be before the clips of just this part of the movie are all over the internet, "See Emma at her Oscar winning rauchiest." My guess is it could happen the day after the official opening because there are some really good camera phones out there and I worked in a really big theater when "Magic Mike" and "Fifty Shades of Gray" came out. The part that really bothers me is someday all kinds of little classmate will be saying, "Wow, have you seen this, it is their mother."
