Also if morty did rick wouldn't have been able to merge all the realities to that single original time stamp if he didnt have another remote or device to do so. Thats why rick didn't explain how the remote worked till after morty was done with it. Thats why he didn't stop morty or warn him of its use till after so he could add salt to the wound. Was it a waste of time oh definitely but the fact rick went out of his way to do all this shows how well prepared he can be. Also to not make fun of him.

jake philips I imagine it would have been improvised by the Storyboard Artists, rather than the animators. Actually producing animated sequences for something they don’t know would be approved, would be a big wasted effort if they said no.

Whereas in live action, they can afford improvise more. A quick shot from a different angle takes much less time in live action than in animation.

If it does not save further ahead of the save point, which it shouldn't, then Morty is learning nothing from the failed attempts, which makes the device useless.
