FACT: Okay, I read the comments, I think there are many Americans or foreigners here who don't know that the plane crash sequence is a reference to an accident that really happened. The Andes accident in 1972, a plane from Uruguay crashed in the mountains, it was carrying rugby soccer players, the survivors say that they had to be cannibals to survive. At first they had to eat shoes and laces like 1:56 to survive but then they resorted to cannibalism. They spent 72 days in the Andes mountain in Latin America, only 16 survived out of 40 passengers. There are photos on the internet that they took themselves and in one of them you can see a human rib.
@@danielgrusuk5758 this one is literally a reference to that accident lmao sorry that pointing out that using a tragedy for a reddit show was a bad thing
Rick did all of this. Just because he got majorly salty about the acid vat bit... Even after all this, Morty can still debate on ice-cream Hes related to Rick alright
This episode did a great job of making you care about a character that you don't hear at all throughout the whole episode. The fact that Morty was willing to risk dying just to be with her despite having a last save was so cute. He knew if he went back he would've never met her. All around great episode!
Great job by the animators making this whole sequence. But I just want to compliment the musical choices as well. It develops nicely with the mood, and then cutting back on the final reset really adds to how jarring it is.

I think all gamers have had those two issues. 1: Forgetting to save when you've made loads of progress. 2: Accidentally saving when you are getting killed.
Yeah, I made that mistake with KoToR during the final siege against Malak. I thought I was loading a previous save but my rage blinded me and I accidentally saved over the place I was trying to reload..
Fun fact dan harmon mentioned on an interview that this entire sequence wasnt written by him, roliand or the writers staff when making this episode they had 4 minutes of unused air time and gave the animator for the episode free rein to create whatever they wanted with it, they ended up making this whole sequence which dan and justin loved and they added it into the episode
It was actually the director of the episode, Jacob Hair. He said he read the book "Alive" (the one about the Andes plane crash) in middle school, and joked that it traumatized him.
That’s not a sensible person that’s a person who thinks too much about stuff because once someone is coming up and emotion especially good ones really feel safe and warm
It is based on the real plane accident suffered by some Uruguayan rugby players who collided with a mountain peak and were stranded in the Andes for 2 months, having to eat their own dead to survive.
Morty choosing to go on the march to save his girlfriend's life rather than trying to stab himself was heart warming. It really hit me deep when Morty took off his glove and his hand was frost bitten really bad. Planetina had nothing on this girl
After everything, instead of press the button to reset everything, he really love her and he know if he press it, she cant love him again, so he choose the phone
The hell are you talking about. This girl is awful. What this proves at the end is she's an awful little creep that will pepper spray someone for almost no reason at all. Morty dodged a bullet, and he'd see it if he wasn't being so irrational and emotional. The "virtues" you speak of were all Morty's. It was a testament of what HE was willing to do for HER. There's nothing good to actually be said about her.
How Rick screw up everything if you watch the whole episode. Rick KNEW Jerry would find it and click reset and Rick was watching Morty the whole time at seemed.
That moment when morty decides to instead of saving himself guaranteed, he calls 911 to try and save this reality. He was willing to die for it. Then fucking Jerry happened.
It was good character development for Morty as well. Going against all odds, wolves, freezing temperatures, trying cannibalism, then decides she's worth saving and him dying for. I was actually pretty happy they made it back. Then Jerry, I felt so bad for Morty.

Jerry is essentially a straw man. his whole existence is to be wrong about everything. You know how most feminists shows and movies make the men impossibly idiotic so the women appear smarter by comparison? yeah, Jerry is the same thing but he only exists to show how smart Rick is.

Most of the time I feel really bad for Jerry because he gets shitted on for no reason but then he threw my empathy right out the window in this episode
Technically it was Rick's fault at the end since he combined all the dimensions making the relationship exist again in that dimension. He then had Morty seemingly die in that dimension before leaving entirely to go back to their own reality where none of the dimensional outcomes would exist. Basically Jerry's reset didnt matter. Sooner or later Morty would of found out it was all a fraud.
@@spagbolphin7814 if he's dead how is he going to press the button? Second of all, why didn't he just save his progress more often? Would you only save your game at the very start?
I wonder how many people think about the fact that when Jerry presses the "reset" button what actually happens is that the "current" morty kinda melts in his girlfriend's arms in front of his family and now in whatever current timeline they're in that girl has to live with the traumatic memories of surviving the plane crash, having her boyfriend melt in her arms, and then watching him come back from the dead only to jump into a vat of acid.
That does sound horrifying but I reckon the Rick of that universe can bring Morty back to life and wipe that memory of morty melting out of all their brains
actually, nobody else can see that. This was displayed in one of the visions Rick showed where Morty did the restaurant reset, to order a red lobster. When he reset, he melted to sludge, but nobody, not even the waiter noticed anything strange and they kept on talking.
That's some deep diving right there. Your premise is correct, If Chandrawhateverhisname were right then there would not have been a horde of angry people at the end, including the grieving girlfriend you mentioned. That poor girl so many victims in Rick and Morty's lives.
@Aarogance ah I missed it then. When I watched first time I also didn't notice Jerry dropped the TV remote, I thought he just RANDOMLY took Morty's crap out of his backpack and pressed the button which probably made me pissed off more than anyone else. Thanks for telling me about this other detail.
rick said that every time the controller was used, there was an alternate universe for what did happen, so there is still a universe where jerry didn't ruin everthing
actually in the last scene where only one morty did everything theres no more alternate realities they were all mixed in one so theres actually one reality where she does remember everything but since she see morty jump in the vat of acid she thinks morty is dead, so if morty goes and explain everything theres some lil hope
I think the device only allows one save point. Or rather you always have to go back to the one point. You can't progress through "real time" after you've pressed the button. You always deterministically keep going until the button is pressed again. No matter what, unconditionally, Morty was always going to have to go back to the time just before he met that girl because he pressed the button just before he met her.
The plane crash is based on a true story of some Uruguayans who fell in the Andes and actually resorted to cannibalism to survive, and it is even the same number as the plane that transported them.
Can we also realize those guys laughing at him at the pool just saw morty disolve in front of them. Or that jerry pressed the button and morty exploded. He thinks he killed his own son. Or the old lad just got his wheelchair stolen and the thief explodes infront of him. Fucking traumatizing mate
@Kai sa Kassa the existential horror is that every single person in those infinite timelines believes they are the hero of their own story, and they get exposed to such bizarre circumstances of a teen boy doing something extreme then imploding right in front of them. Those people are actually fully realized people even if there's different versions of them.
As horrible of an outcome as it is, you have to respect Morty for not setting another point in time for the entire time he was dating the girl. He was willing to do the entire relationship honestly, no cheats or shortcuts.

Morty only presses the save button when he knows something might go wrong. He didn't think for a second to save during his relation with that girl. Even with their ups and downs. That's beautiful.
It's so true though to like playing a video game, you get so into it that you literally forget to save for so long, then you get owned by the boss battle and suddenly you're back like 20 lvls 🤣
That's the moral. Morty was too scared to save the entire time because then he'd finally be committing to this girl, and he lost everything. The moral of course being always make sure your magic time machines have two save points.
the whole point was to forget about the save thing that's legit the moral of the story if he never used the save point and just opened the door without being afraid then it would of been all good
You can almost hear the conversation Morty has when he meets his “future” girlfriend. “Hey Sarah! You don’t know me and this is going to sound strange, but we WERE together once!”
Morty really went through a lot in his life. His real actual life with his adventures with Rick is already crazy but he also played the Roy game which he was in for 55 years and then also this one. He's not even 16 yet.
I was just thinking this! That's why he's so much bolder in season 5. Its great character development and it's what drives great shows. But it's a double edged sword bc if there's progress like that then there must be an inevitable end and I never want Rick and Morty to end 😭
Everyone: Roasting Jerry for accidentally resetting Morty’s life like the smoothbrain he is. Me: “Morty is definitely Jerry’s son. He really knew exactly how to get it right all over again and what mistakes not to make on this round, but he spazzed out and ruined it immediately.
He most likely panicked because he lost the one life he actually wanted instead of being an emotional support pet for rick and going on adventures that almost get them killed every time, Kind of like if you bought a brand new 1000$ iphone and accidentally drop it down a sewer you'll panic and try to get it back without thinking
I was thinking the same thing. I mean, you already have lived this scenario, just go through it the same way you did last time. If this had happened to me, that's what I would do. Though, people do cancel others for something that’s not even problematic, so I wouldn’t be surprised if someone got offended despite it being unnecessary.
The number on the plane in the clip "571" is even the number of the flight. Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571

I was just thinking this! That's why he's so much bolder in season 5. Its great character development and it's what drives great shows. But it's a double edged sword bc if there's progress like that then there must be an inevitable end and I never want Rick and Morty to end 😭
Oweeeee
@@ArkansasGamer 100 more seasons of rick and morty forever and seshwan sauce lots of seshwan sauce
@@daveidduha even if it takes nine seasons morty
@@ArkansasGamer iirc there’s supposed to be 5 more seasons? i’m not really sure though, just something i saw someone else say
Dr. Spycrab Ah, an intellectual. 👏🏼
I mean its completely natural most people would probably spaz after all that happened to them.
Of course, there is the possibility that you would forget some minor detail and it would end up happening differently than the original time.
@@nicovulkis1827 if you've gone thorugh so much with someone, it's difficult keeping a cool head and not do anything rational. Plus he kind of fell on the remote
"You killed the entire Simpsons, Morty! They're a beloved family, Morty, the-the-they're a national treasure and you killed em!" I couldn't stop laughing!
