  • Our first Triumph Tiger 800 XCa review. The Rider's height and weight: 1,74m and 75 kg (5ft 8in and 165 lbs).
    The XCa is the top spec motorcycle in Triumph's new Tiger 800 range. Featuring WP adjustable suspensions, revised engine & ergonomics and a lot of touring features, the new Triumph Tiger 800 just got better and it's ready to fight its main rivals: BMW F850GS and Honda Africa Twin.

    I bought a new 800 XCA last Friday without test riding a demonstrator, I did 400 km with a mixture of road and dirt, OMG what a bike, makes my old BMW R1100 GS feel like a tractor. The XCA is so nice off road in Off Road engine mode, and it is interesting feeling the TC kick in but still accelerating to silly speeds on the dirt. Thank you for your proper off rad reviews and love you videos. Cheers from Australia.

    The review is spot on great job!
    To anyone reading many said the exact same things about my 2017 Tiger 800XCX. If starting all over for 15,000 seems like nothing do it. But seriously the 15 to 17 models are more than adequate. The Hp and and torque about the same. Add an aftermarket Akrapovic can and you’re getting 18’ numbers and smoother engine. The only and most major change to the the 18’ is going to be the TFT display. Also he is reviewing a XCA. Not the base model which doe not come with all the above mentioned. Again, the only new thing that can be reviewed on the new tiger is the TFT display and added controls. Now, don’t get me wrong I wish Triumph had added TFT On the 15’ models.. As manufacturers like Yamaha use TFT displays on many of there new bikes. Ahem Triumph. Overall, if you’re in the market for a new machine this is money well spent ($15,000 ish). If you’re a current Tiger owner your bike has everything the new one does less the TFT.

    Well done. Nice review. I got a tiger 800 recently (the old XCX model - of course it was a good deal because of the new version was coming) and the windshield was the problem, I changed for their additional windshield accessorie......better.....but not enough. You were right when you mention about the engine, the first gear is shorter, but in the everyday use, the old style is fine for me.

    All it needs extra is tubeless rims, so much easier to change tyres without worrying about tubes. (but take a 21" tube on big trips just in case you dent the rim) Thank you for this review, there is a XCA 800 at the dealer and inabout a months it should be mine.

      We'll come up with a direct comparison soon. Until then.. Triumph is more sporty and faster - for the young spirited, while Honda comes with a different approach - a relaxed adventure travel. It's the engine that makes the difference. So it's up to your special needs.

      DriveMag Riders I have Africa Twin, manual, one year and a half.. 21,500km on odometer. Before that I rode gs 1200 LC. I have to say that Honda’s Africa is much better in terms of comfort, easy and enjoyable ride (on road and light off road, I didn’t use hard off road), felt more reliable, simple and perfect. Yes, gs has so much riders aids (cruise cont., dynamic esa, cornering abs...), but I don’t need all of them much.
      Africa has 170cc less than gs, but cruising speed is the same 150-160kph. Over that riding is not comfortable. On lower speed, feeling on Africa is much better than gs.
      I saw triumph tiger 800 xva in showroom, looks really good. I like this engine concept of 3 cylinders. But, never tried.
      Triumph make big step with their bikes in past 2-3 years, I have to say.
      Cheers 😎🏁

    Wow, really nice set of updates to an already great bike.
    I ride a 2013 XC, and I have a friend with a 2015 XCX, and can say from experience that year over year these bikes have gotten alot nicer, with pretty marginal price increases.
    The TFT screen is a really nice update. The windscreen is as clever a windscreen, as I've seen. I adjust mine frequently going on/off road during dual sporting. If it stays put off-road, it'll be a crank-adjust killer.
    The hand-guards look to be the same garbage no-protection, buffet contributing, doesn't stay in place, plastic jobs that everyone dumps for bark busters. I absolutely hate those pepe-the frog headlights. They look "aggressive" i guess, but imho doesn't fit the bike.
    I'm excited to see how all the electronics survive on these bikes. If this thing takes a spill in a water crossing is this going to be a tow? Nice job Triumph! Hey touratech, can we do something about those lights?!

      We'll come up with a comparison soon. As we tested so far, this one is the best street bike and it's faster - the triple is fantastic. Honda comes with a different approach - low-torque twin, more off-road focused riding position, relaxed ride.

      I've ridden Atwins, Super10s, 800GS, and Vstroms, and KTMs - I bought the Tiger and am never sorry about it.
      Every single one of the other bikes is better than the Tiger in some respects. I would even say the 800gs is a "better bike"; but the Tigers have a certain magic about them. They are just "fun" to ride. The triple engine has personality like a twin doesn't, and the bikes look cool without being too flashy.
      I was sold on a dealer-demo Vstrom back in 2013, and on a whim I tool a Tiger out for a test drive and fell in love with it (at almost twice the price!). When my buddy started looking a few years later, he did everything to convince himself a GS was his bike - he bought a tiger. When I trade bikes on dual-sport rides, no one is that eager to get back on their KTMs or Africa twins.
      Get on a Tiger. I think you'll love it... so maybe look at the sticker first because once you ride it; you'll buy it.
      (also FYI, on average, Triumph dealers in the US really suck, so you'll be doing your own service)

    The Tiger 800 XCA, the G850GS and Africa Twin look very interesting - I like all three. But, I would like something a little smaller like the CB500X. Have you tested the CB500X with the Rally Raid kit - suspension and wheel upgrades? Also, I believe there is Rally Raid kit for the G310GS. Both of these bikes are of interest to me because weight and power - I prefer the lower weight and less power, but want to do highway driving @ 100 - 140 kph.

    Hi, i just need some opinion. Should i get the XRX or XCX? I mainly commute 85% of the time, on road touring 10% and off road touring 5% of the time. The off road i occasionally do is loose gravel, hard pack mud and some sand(nothing technical). Im always torn between "having it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it" so is the XRX good enough for the occasional offroad i do? side note: im currently riding a gsr 750 and recently i made friends with a group of adv riders. so at the moment im going offroad with my gsr so that's why im looking at changing my bike. im very interested in going offroading with my buddies but is the extra price of the XCX really worth it?

    • @DriveMagRiders
      @DriveMagRiders  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep in mind that the XC version also comes with tube-type tires. The spoked wheels are also good for bad roads - more resistant. Still, considering your needs, the XR is the natural choice (after all, the R1200GS comes with a 19 inches front, too, and it's good off-road).

    • @faziwuzy138
      @faziwuzy138 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      DriveMag Riders hmm, that is logical. Then how about the XR vs the tracer 900? Slap on some 50/50 tires, skidplates and crashbars on the tracer and do you think its able to handle the very occasional offroad? After all im commuting 85% of the time. Personally im leaning more towards the tracer tho

    Mine was a pile of shit. Transmission failures. Oil consumption. Bad paint, bad powdercoat, flaking finishes, random failures. No longer reliable enough to leave town on after just 3 years and 48k miles.
    Drank oil from new. Dealer told me I didn't have a warranty because I self-serviced it.
    I called Triumph North America. They offered to help me but had to speak to the dealer first. Naturally the dealer lied to them about my complaints. Boom, just like that, no warranty.
    Bad bike, bad dealer, bad manufacturer. Buyer beware.
