@@zachsteiner imo it’s because Zain and Cody doesn’t feel like a crazy rivalry. It’s not their fault. It’s just the unfortunate result of what happens when 2 friends make it to the top 2. While hbox and armada didn’t hate each per se, they weren’t best buddies who played friendlies every day. There was definitely tension in the air when they played. Definitely some beef, sweaty palms, anger, insane pop offs, etc etc. All of those attributes were present in other big rivalries too. Leffen vs anyone. Mango vs Armada, Mango vs M2K. The 5 gods in general. All of this stuff is not present in the Cody/zain dynamic.

I think at smash con Hbox simply outplayed Cody, it wasn’t necessarily a fluke but I could tell he didn’t have Cody figured out. However here I think not only did HBox outplay him but he did things you haven’t seen him done in years. He showed that he had a solid game plan against Cody that can prove resilient in their future encounters, made evident by loser’s finals. Hoping for a major dub from Hbox this year
Main issue being is Cody has very very good vod review skills, and he is such a sore loser it really fuels him to genuinely learn the mu inside and out. I don’t love the dude, but hbox was his bracket demon for so so long and he overcame it. I would love to Hbox consistently win, but in reality who is more hungry and who is going to put more time into learning from their mistakes?

Practice doesn't make perfect. Good practice makes perfect. It's no use to just grind the game if you're not learning anything new or getting to the point of numbness. Also Hbox was coached by M2K for this tournament.
Hbox practiced quiet a bit ever since before Genesis. Got some new stuff into his gameplan for Cody and Zain and it looks great too. Mang0 plays and plays but nothing will change if he can't innovate like Hbox does once every 2 years.

It’s just that he doesn’t implement them in tournament because it’s like his brain turns off and he just plays dumb, then complains on twitter after. Not an excuse, but I do think mango just needs a coach to remind him to use new stuff in tournament and not just autopilot
