Thank you very much for this video! I have a 17' VW Golf R, and the screen was honestly my only complaint. I order the screen and bezel from my local VW dealer and had it in 1 day. I followed the video in detail and had the new unit in and completed in 20 mins. The one thing I did differently was I didn't disconnect the battery, and I had zero faults. CHEERS!
Fantastic demonstration of how to get out the media screen. My Discover Pro was switching on and off with every bump and the dealer wanted to take apart the entire dash to find the problem. Turns out the main connector on the back of the screen was just loose (which the dealer assured me was NOT the problem . . . because they checked).
Did you need any other device attached to the golf or was it a simple plug and play? All of the features still work. Radio, car infotainment screen where it shows gas left or the vehicle mil condition, backup camera functionality, Looking to replace the 2020 6.5” Jetta R screen to the 8” let me know thanks!
Brilliant video, I want to do this to my golf r. A few questions, I dont have maps or the app connect feature on my current one, it looks like you swapped yours over and on the new one you got the option? Do I need to buy one with app connect already installed or do the 8" screens all have it
I was tired of all that retrofitting and recently I built my own head unit based on Raspberry PI 4 (very powerful single board computer). I used OpenAuto Pro as a head unit software. Much cheaper and much more flexible solution.
Great video, man. It's short, but not too many corners cut. I just wanted to see how you reattach the vents. In my case, I bought the trim that doesn't have new vents.

Thanks for the video, I just received my new display and trim today. Unfortunately it didn’t come with radio display removal keys so I just ordered those on Amazon and maybe get them tomorrow. I found the display with Nav for 330 and gloss black w/vents for 160. The items are a lil less now that they are almost 5 years out

You ever consider swapping the gauge cluster for the new VW Digital Cockpit? One of the main things I want to do on my 35th Anniversary GLI and would love to see a video like this on it
Awesome video, I watched other videos and they mention needing to know if it MIB 1 or 2 or 2.5... does it matter? Mine is a 2015 golf tdi with the old vw specific adapter in the center console rather then USB... does that matter for this? Does this work if you wanted to do a virtual cockpit?
You will need MIB 2+ for this to be plug and play. Check my description. I linked the VW infotainment guru that can answer any and all of you questions. Although pricey, he has all the connections to get you what you need. Thanks for watching.
Good explanation .. in my case i want to replace that system of 8 inch for a new version in 9.2 inch wich is even more digital...do you have any installation video of that? Thanks..!
I just bought the screen but now I'm wondering if the actual screen size is bigger? Like is there more actual screen real estate? Doesn't look like there is? In fact, it looks smaller.
Hello , could you help me please i have a Golf 7 of 2013, the radio doesn't work anymore. I thought to change by myself , do you know if this radio would work with my car with a simple plug and play or will i need a code ? Thank you
I ordered the screen from ebay actually but I linked all the information in the description for you to search the correct product number. Thanks for watching and the support!
I plan on buying a 2017 GTI SE, I believe these do not have navigation on them, what would I need to do to add this 8 inch screen and navigation to a stock 2017 SE ? Do I need a different brain for the infotainment system? Also does this car have the MIB 2 I see people talking about? Thanks for your help.
Your 2017 should have the MIB2 in the glovebox so it should be a plug and play install with the faceplate. However you will need the gps module to run nav. I would highly suggest contacting PeterDNA on IG bc he is the ultimate guru at this and will gladly answer any questions.
Hey Ricky, greetings from Brazil :) Just a quick question: is it really needed to disconnect the battery to replace the display? I'm afraid to lose some configuration or mess something keeping the battery disconnected... Thanks!
Massao Hayashida hey I was wondering where can you get the parts in Brazil do they sell them at any Volkswagen dealership? I been living here for 3 months and I was thinking about doing this conversion to my car
@@inakiwest9638 I bought the display from Brazilian Mercado Livre website, there are some sellers there and I chose the cheapest one. Hi, I was wondering if you can help? I bought a second hand screen on ebay and set it all up like in your video but the screen was black. It played noise of the radio but nothing worked on it. Do you know what might be the fix to this?
Is the blue connection secure? As in.. did the connection click into place? Some users had to shave the tab for the connection to fit. Luckily I didn't have to. Hope it's not a faulty unit.

Ron, I am very content with the unit however if you have a 2015, it won't be truly plug and play. You will need mib2 unit inside the glovebox to run the bigger screen
Hey there - yeah this is a straight swap, plug and play if you already have the MIB 2 brains in the glovebox. No software updates were needed for mine to run
@@ilimit thanks man I think I will. To keep costs low I might go for the 8" Discover Pro rather than the newer 9.2" model since you need a newer head unit mib2.5 for that in addition to the plastics
Do you think this would be possible on a golf mk7 gte, literally to swap it over. It currently a Discover Pro MIB2 fitted. But my concern is the car menu where you can veiw the hybrid part of the information. Does it need to from a gte? Hopefully that makes sense.
I believe so. There's a really good chance it is just plug and play - and whichever button you have to select hybrid functions - I think one of the buttons on the face plate will go ahead and access the information. However it won't be specifically marked hybrid, obviously. I wish you could luck in your search!
Since I have a 2017 vehicle in the states, I can just swap the face (display only). Any 2016+ GTI/R in the US should already have the MIB2 brains from factory. So for that, it is a plug and play solution (as show in this video). However if you have a 2015 GTI/R - you will need to also swap your MIB1 to MIB 2 which is found inside your glovebox, and that is more involved.
Looks really good and this is making me want to do this retrofit on my 2016 Golf R. But I'm not sure that I would be ok with the trim piece not matching in color. That would be a deal breaker for me.
you could always find one that matches. or get some vinyl that is the right colour and wrap the trim piece so it matches. this isn't too hard if you just need gloss black

That is a question I can't answer. I believe the button should function normally as it would in your GTI. Instead of going to navigation probably to the normal function of your car as of current state.
i l i m i t ok thx ;) so just the screen is enough, right?! Because i've read in some forums that you must change the modul or whatever in the glovecompartement

For anyone that is considering doing this upgrade. Do not buy from Eurozonetuning. They are asking 800 dollars for the nav version. I was able to find mine of Ebay brand new with the 7.5 bissel for 405 tax and shipping included. You do need to swap over the stock vents and the hazard button. Still, the overall install took less than 25 mins. Thanks to this install video.

I’m not certain, possibly. Try the link in the description.
how much did you pay for your kit? I'm considering it but seems pretty steep
I took a chance and sourced the parts from eBay. I forgot how much but significantly less than the kit!
@@ilimit nice, thanks!
So it wouldn’t work for 2015 gti?
Unfortunately not. You will need a full MIB2 swap in the glovebox as well.
did your old unit have CarPlay & Nav?
Yes it did
i have a gti 7 no facelift with the composition touch, can i just make like you and its good? or do i need somthing special?
2016+ GTI will work. Check out the description link to the guys who can answer all technical questions 👍
i l i m i t ok thx ;) so just the screen is enough, right?! Because i've read in some forums that you must change the modul or whatever in the glovecompartement
Wich model do you have on the video?
What year is your MK7? All I know is 2016+ GTI / R will basically be plug and play. I have 2017. Contact Bill from EZT (description link) to confirm!!
i l i m i t my gti is from 12/2016
Hello from Austria.
May it possible, that you post the long coding information of your 5F?
I want to change something at my Radio in my MK7.5 and therefor i need your info 'bout it.
Hope you read this post and maybe give me this little information.
Thanks a lot for helping. :-)
Best regards
Markus
For anyone that is considering doing this upgrade. Do not buy from Eurozonetuning. They are asking 800 dollars for the nav version. I was able to find mine of Ebay brand new with the 7.5 bissel for 405 tax and shipping included. You do need to swap over the stock vents and the hazard button. Still, the overall install took less than 25 mins. Thanks to this install video.
Thanks for the advice!
Would this work on a 2014 golf R ? plug and play?
I don't believe it will.
i l i m i t would I have to buy the cables for it I’m guessing ?
