I love how you mix and put multiple images on the same page. I never thought to do that in my 50 years of drawing things. I love hearing your thought process. You are inspiring. :-) Thank you
You’re very welcome! I’m glad you enjoy hearing the process! I’ve really had a lot of fun trying to build the pages like a scene. Can you tell I’m a puzzle person? ❤️😊👍
I'm glad you chose to go with the other sketch book. I prefer a smoother paper. I really like your decision to put the building behind everything. It really gave it some umph! I will have to come back and try it with you.
I’m glad you liked it and I hope you give it a try! Drawing on a rough surface is definitely not for me either. I’ll have to try out more painting experiments with the watercolor one. ❤️😊👍
Love how your scroll and scribbles turn out. It's fun leaning over your shoulder to watch and listen to your processes 😄 I recently tripped on the order button and got my own neocolor ii set. Your intuitive drawing videos helped me through the 'ohcraphowdoIusethis' stage 😅 Happy days to you and yours!
🤣 I can picture someone saying “oops” as they push the order button! I’m glad the videos helped! It’s not always easy when you’ve got shiny new art stuff. I hope you’re enjoying them! ❤️😊👍
Hi! I love your videos, they really inspire me to try drawing/painting things that I normally wouldn't. ❤ Please make a video where you try the watercolor sketchbook 🙏🏻 Thank you for helping me through a months of paint block! Love from Denmark 🇩🇰
I drew along! I tried out my new Sharpie Creative markers along with my Neocolor IIs. The markers are a different experience for sure but I had fun working with them!
such a great idea. I have been sketching something from pinterest or other sources everyday. well most everyday. But I never really though about doing multiples on one page. That really brought it together and I imaging if someone was to just see this for the first time they would be wondering. I love making people wonder. lol. I just subscribed because I have got to see more. Love your work. Have a great day and Merry Christmas.
❤Love how it turned out. I'd like to think the bird set up shop in front of the restaurant to sell some peas. They sell hotdogs, why not have some peas as an option. Lol.😆
@@artbyheather props to you for the one videos a week. That’s still a lot more then some people do. I’ve always had the want to do my own videos but I just never do. So again props to you girl!
Hello Heather! Beautiful drawings! I also prefer smooth paper. I have a lot of thick watercolour paper which I'm moslty using to practice with alcohol markers. Have a nice week
Thanks! I think I’ll have to try out some other art supplies on it and see what I like to use. It will probably be more for painting in, not drawing or sketching. ❤️😊👍
When I started following you and doing my own intuitive drawings I got one of each of the moleskine sketchbooks. I generally prefer watercolor paper because I use a lot of water and the watercolor sketchbooks take it more easily and don’t buckle as much. I don’t mind texture. I usually use the Arches rough paper because of the added texture.
I’m really glad I got it to try. I can definitely see using the watercolor version for painting with more water. I really like the look of watercolor. It should be a fun sketchbook to experiment with! ❤️😊👍
That page turned out really cool!! 👍 It looks like the bird might be interested in the peas, lol!! 😂 That little shack would be very weathered right there by the ocean! 🌊 The salt water would hit it a lot, especially in the winter! 🌬 Great job!! 👏👏
I think it’s good that you went with your tried and true notebook. They are very different vibes. I do watercolor, not watercolor crayons, so I prefer the watercolor texture. In fact, I’ve tried watercolor, pencils and crayons in regular watercolor books and like you, I was not happy with the results. I can certainly see that with watercolor crayons, the regular moleskine is much better for drawing and blending, so I’m gonna have to give that a try.
Very different vibes! You’re right. Luckily, I have a set of watercolors that I can use in it. I’d like to try out some different things and see what I like about it. I’m glad I had another “regular” Moleskine as a backup! ❤️😊👍
I love your videos. I wish I was good at this stuff, I have aphantasia (inability to see pictures in my mind which is a disaster to creativity) and am wanting to do watercolour pet portraits one day. I am wanting to do other art forms like this one too. I bought a 4 pack of woodys and some water soluable oil pastels (neocolours too expensive unfortunately at the moment) cool channel anyway
Thanks! I’m glad you’re enjoying the channel! I hope you like using the water soluble art supplies as much as I do! I didn’t know they made water soluble oil pastels. That sounds fun! ❤️😊👍
If you don’t like the highly textured watercolor paper (cold pressed paper) you should try looking for a sketchbook with hot pressed/smooth watercolor paper. It would be easier for drawing on but still take the water better than a regular sketchbook. Stillman and Burns has some great options.
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve never tried Stillman and Burns. I really enjoy the regular Moleskine paper for my Neocolors. But you never know until you try. ❤️😊👍
We can all be too hard on ourselves at times. If I start being hard on myself, I like to take a break from it and come back with fresh eyes. I also think finding the good in your work is so important. Even if it’s terrible, I will find something that I like about it. The colors I chose, or the way one tree branch looks. It’s a good way to start changing your internal mindset. I hope that helps! ❤️😊👍
You are forgiven! Hehe I would love to see you work in the watercolor one some time, i thought the color looked really pretty but def more for when you use mostly water. Maybe for an intuitive drawing video?
Can you do a video on sort of an in depth technique on how you find the shapes of an animal? And how you do the fur? Thats the part I struggle with. I am good with proportions but I dont know how to isolate the shapes and also make it look like fur or feathers
😅 I’m not very good at tutorial videos. I think there are a lot of really good videos on TH-cam to teach those techniques. That’s how I learned. There is a good painting exercise that teaches you how to find shapes by limiting your brush strokes. I have an older video where I try it. It’s called using only 30 brush strokes, I think. Fur and feathers are really hard to get right. Try using a darker color to start with and then lightly use a lighter shade on top. It definitely takes time and practice, but you’ll get there. 😊👍
Funnily enough, I've painted that exact same Raven reference in my sketchbook! "I'm fondling a sketchbook" "The front is the front" I'm here for the art but I think its important to say I am just as likely to be here for the words behind the art.
I love the final outcome. I do wonder if the second page is any different than the first for the watercolor paper. I've seen other people who use moleskin books and the first and last page is different then the rest
Yes, the first and last pages of the watercolor Moleskine are like the smooth regular paper. They are not counted as pages though. So you still get 72 watercolor pages. If that makes sense. Glad you liked it! ❤️😊👍
Thank you for sharing your exploration of the new sketchbook. It helped me! Where do you find your amazing reference photos to pin on Pinterest? Do you find them IN Pinterest or elsewhere and pin them to Pinterest?
I’m so happy to have helped! All pictures were posted to Pinterest by someone else. I just saved them to one board for practicing and learning purposes. 😊👍
I feel validated re: having been working from the watercolor sketchbook. I hope you do post the work you do in that one, but in the meantime, being able to see how different the pages we've been working on was a bit of a relief. I kept thinking mine was just so much more textured because mine is in person whereas yours was on video so maybe yours was as textured and you just rolled with it and were able to look past it. Nope! I'm dealing with a whole different monkey. Good to know! 🤣
A different monkey, indeed! I’m glad I tried it out with both side by side. I think you can really see the difference between the two. I’ll definitely be exploring in it more in future videos. ❤️😊👍
@@artbyheatherI just went ahead and bought the sketchbook version--I can't wait for it to arrive! Seeing how watersoluble media activates on the smooth surface looks so nice. I want to be part of THAT world. Lol Love your raven, btw!
Those should work the same way mine does. I just know whatever direction you would normally unscrew something, you have to twist the top in the opposite direction. I’m sorry I can’t be of better help. 🤷♀️
Hi Heather, as always I worked with you and loved it, about the sketchbook I don't get it, I am working with you in the watercolour moleskine notebook 200 /72 pages but my paper is smooth, I put every medium in it, same book , same label , I don't get it how that is possible, I am living in the Netherlands, maybe we have different moleskine notebooks/sketchbooks, I don't like coldpress, hope you can work in it. ❤
That’s interesting!.. I’m not sure. I know there is also a Moleskine watercolor album that doesn’t say cotton paper. Maybe that’s the difference.. You might be right, they could make different versions in different countries. 🤷♀️ I’ll still put it to good use. ❤️😊👍

Thanks! I’m glad you enjoy them! I guess you have to make a mess to clean a mess! I surprise myself too sometimes! ❤️😊👍
You do the best job showing use of Neo IIs of anyone I’ve found yet. Thank you!!!
Wow! Thanks for the compliment! ❤️🥰👍
I’m amazed at the details you manage to get with a non pointy vessel. You really know your tools! The crow/raven is gorgeous.
Thanks you so much! I’m glad you liked it! I’ve really learned a lot over the past year. ❤️😊👍

Great decision on the sketchbook vs the watercolor! I like that you are leaving the neo- colors unwatered (?). Such a good video.
