2:48 Fujifilm has incorporated 8 elements with the lens focus group that move when focusing. Thus they have managed to minimise aberration fluctuation from infinity to MOD, by moving the aperture together with the lens focus group.
To move the focus group, a DC motor is used for autofocus. They have incorporated three bearing mechanisms with the DC motor for smoother autofocus performance. The bearing mechanics ensure highly accurate control of the DC motor.
    It's a technical masterpiece. -Fujifilm

I’ve watched and read pretty much every other review and you’re the first one to show the sound it makes. Not a dealbreaker but something to consider for sure. Have you used the 50mm 1.0? It’s so heavy and clunky but might be better for low light AF

    • @LeeZavitz

  • @paceyombex

Tried that exact lens today, and I think they do. The downsides I could think of from the old lens are AF speed and accuracy in AF-C, and lack of WR, and they "fixed" those on the new one, while maintaining pretty much the same MSRP. Worth every penny IMO, especially if you don't already have the old one.

Just got this today and have the same feelings you shared. Super sharp, though I expected quicker AF. And don't like the af motor nearly as much as the silent motors.
Curious behavior when hitting the preview button. I can hear the motor resetting or something. What's that about? I was thinking about this lens or the Viltrox 75mm. A good bit tighter at 75mm, but it is super sharp too, and gives fuji a run for the money in all aspects. And it's only $549 vs Fuji's $999.

That new 56 isn't in my budget range. But, I was lucky enough to find a barely used V1.0 56 at a great price because the owner is upgrading to the new stuff. Love it. I think someone mentioned that the linear motors weren't used in the WR because it would have increased the size/weight too much. Not sure if that's true or not. I need to practice using the LCD to compose rather than the EVF. Do you have an tips/suggestions for shooting with the LCD? Sometimes I just can't see it well enough. Old eyes!! LOL! I have a vague memory of reading somewhere that in order to use linear motors with some lens designs, especially with many heavy glass elements, you would have to make the lens substantially larger. If that’s so, I guess they wanted to keep the form factor familiar, and was content with the focusing speed?

@@LeeZavitz The new 33mm is way better, id say one of my fav ever lenses.. of any brand! i might try the 50mm 1.0.. tho I hear the AF is problematic there too.. its such an important focal length to get right!! Thanks for the reply mate

The optical formula is quite a bit different between the lenses. The 85mm 1.8 is nothing special.

the 50mm f1.0 might be a better (pricier) option. Linear motors and even better bokeh

@@TheFredolegrand I'm with you, my friend. Blatantly, Fujifilm didn't put linear motors inside their new 56mm lens, so as not to eat into the sales of the 50mm f1.0.

I can't help it, but the model's outfit is a rather strange and insensitive combination of more fashionable styles. Not suitable for this type of video shooting. Anyway, this video review is one of the good ones on TH-cam and the model is also very beautiful. 😊

best thing about this is how much cheaper you’ll be able to get the old one for. the improvements are so minimal i dont see how buying the new version for a grand is even worth it.
