I met Debra almost 20 years ago where I worked and we got a chance to know each other a little bit over the few weeks she was there. And she was awesome. I just loved taking to her. I haven’t seen her since, but I’ll always remember meeting her.
Debra Monk’s just brilliant. Most people see her in film and tv and have no idea how truly talented she is. An American treasure indeed. Bravo. Thank you for this spectacular example. What a treat. This is from “Steel Pier,” a show that deserves so much more credit. I’m enjoying this so much. She’s spectacular. Look what she does with an audience. Wow set.
Just the perfect example of how to sell a song. The audience doesn't quite know to do at the beginning, and by the end she has them in the palm of her hand. Flawless performance!
I watch this when I want to be reminded on exactly how to sell a song. She's effortless. It's a showstopper. You can tell how good she is by how enthralled the musicians are. That's respect.

If one of the great fine arts in music, is having and selling fun, and surely it is, this woman is a great artist. Watch behind her at the orchestrate. They are smiling. As for the audience.... well, they just ate it all up. Its a well written and structured lyric, of course, but Monk squeezes every drip of hilarity and raunch. You wouldn't suspect this represented weeks and weeks of hard work and - ahem - daily grind.
