I remember my mind being blown when I first saw this while in high school. I am in my 40s and this is still impressive, amazing, and she did her thing!!!
There is nothing I find more exhilarating than watching/listening to somebody on the top of their game do what they do best. Linda Eder knocked this out of the park. I mean I have never heard that song performed better.
There is not a handful of men or women on the planet that could even come close to that power and vocal control. Many professionals would never try this song. She dominates the stage with her amazing talent and unusual beauty.
You’re absolutely right! I come back to this video again and again as an example of true vocal power. Katie Perry isn’t HORRIBLE, she actually has quite a bit of vocal power, but she hasn’t displayed this kind of power, not at least in the performances I’ve seen.
What a privilege it is to be able to watch this! A million words could not describe Linda Elder’s vocal gymnastics and strength combined with how easy she makes it look and how much fun she has. Just amazing, no one can even begin to compare!
I saw Linda last night at 54 Below (Michael Feinstein's NYC Cabaret). She closed the show with her iconic rendition of this piece. She was true to form and still hit the high notes at the end of this piece without any effort. What an amazing talent and a beautiful human being! Love you, Linda!
Actually there is someone in Hawaii, who has also sung on Broadway, that I'd say can do it ever so slightly better. Although I think she got her performance inspiration from Linda Eder. While the recording is amateur, here is where she performed it at our local mall in 2008. th-cam.com/video/H3M-sil0vvs/w-d-xo.html
I love her face at about 2:17, when she's reaching notes I can't even dream of brushing against. She gives this smile and look, like "Yup, this is a blast." Linda Eder is a phenom!
It's like she is daring people to doubt then that glimmer right before she goes for that note... you doubters. Get to see her in October at Below Studio 54. I'm planning on crying through her whole performance.
I saw her several years ago in the Chicago area. She did this song and it was absolutely awesome. It is my favorite of hers. Sometimes I will play it several times in a row, LOUD. Such a way with how she sings
I think this performance is even better than the one on the album. On the album, on the high note part right before she goes up the octave she takes a breathe. In this live performance, NO BREATHE! It makes it even more spectacular and impressive. Her breathe control is outstanding!
@@samuelm.5752 I'm glad you think so. I saw Marian Carey at Caesar's Palace about 4 years ago, when she supposedly "hit" the high notes, they were pre-recorded. That is, she wasn't always singing live. I'm sure someone of your vast knowledge already knows this.

The beautiful and magnificent Linda Eder. This is one of those iconic videos a musical lover will come back to over and over. I was in the play Man of La Mancha and I never got tired of the repetitive performances; the production was so rich in soul and meaning, it literally brought me to tears everytime as we sang The Impossible Dream in the finale. It was about hope, purity, and meaning. It made you look to God. It was just exhilarating and Linda performs this song with the meaning, power, and passion the songwriter meant it to be.
Just saw Linda Eder at a small college outside of Oklahoma City and she sang this with a 3 piece band and Yes she still hit all of those notes, she is a remarkable talent. Its spellbinding to watch live.
