In 73 i was 14. Life was pretty simple. Ride my bike in the mornings, play baseball, have lunch, hang out awhile then about 4 oclock MG would come on and we'd enjoy the air conditioning and the crazy celebrities. Summer vacation that year was care free.

Blue (blank) Sky, yeah I guess, would have thought Moon would have topped that. There’s a lot of answers that wouldn’t have surprised me if they were up there, Iike Jeans, Ribbon, Velvet, Suede Shoes, Monday or Danube even. If it was in Canada I’m pretty sure Blue Nose would have been mentioned, as in the famous Nova Scotia Schooner the Bluenose….it’s been on our dime since 1937.

i was a sucessful contestant on MG74 i think episode 77 or close i would have o check..but at age 82 one gets slightly, or "muchly " forgetful.. i was successful until both Richard and OMG Betty White blew it for me..I was shocked at Betty's answer was BANANA for what THE GIANT GORILLA name ? put in his giant martini.. i said Coconut but Betty said BANANA UGH... Betty really! in a MARTINI ?..and for BLUE Richard said for BLUE I SAID NAVY ..SO DID RICHARD .. I GOT BUZZED,,,But the audience were not pleased cos most thought it was a match NAVY BLUE..anyway thanks to whomever uploaded these fun shows i cannot believe i am 82..hope i race Betty lol
i was browsing because i was trying to find out WHEN GENE WENT FROM BEING THE CALLED " HOST" TO BEING THE " STAR " no one seems to have noticed .

There was allot of turmoil going on in the late 1960's and early 70's, too. We have a tendency to romanticize history especially in the times where we are children or young teens. we didn't know all the drama that was taking place at the time.

Yes .I understand that tape issue.Have had the same problem with audio reel to reel tape and 1/2 inch video reel to reel. The coating comes off and gums up the heads and tape guides and squeals like this tape.Had to keep stopping the machine to clean the heads to finish the tape transfers.
Seems like all of those bad tapes came from the same batch in that era.
Might get lucky that somebody that has a another copy from laying around in their closet as they grabbed it as the affiliate stations clean out their tape storage area years ago.
I'm glad the tape tracking and color was not affected with it.

It's nice to see what happened to the lady that won quite a few games before being retired. It's a little jarring when you're watching Buzzr and a contestant suddenly disappears between episodes (not counting the time in 1978 when a contestant had to leave because of a family emergency).
I thought of Doctor Who for the Super Match, but it was still relatively young in 1973 (ten years old!) and wouldn't have really been known in America yet like it would be when Tom Baker took over two years later.

interesting backstory with "the waltons" (richard thomas and michael learned) - at this point (in it's first year) most people didn't think the waltons would survive, (it ran for 9 seasons) cbs in it's infinite corporate stupidity was influenced by a ridiculous 1972 congressional hearing about the "quality" of television and started to purge urban (progressive) shows. the waltons were a political pawn by cbs to appease congress (and anxious white conservatives).
most audiences were unaware of the behind the scenes cultural fight for the "conscience of america", the smothers brothers had been infamously cancelled (1969) over their argument with cbs about censorship. america was still knee deep in the 1960's culture war. the country was still culturally and generationally divided. hundreds of kids were still coming home in body bags from vietnam, massive demonstrations, a racist backlash to civil rights and integration, the sexual revolution, women's rights, and nobody on prime time television was allowed to talk about any of it.

Yes, and it’s interesting to hear Gene make comments about inflation and the trying economic times people were experiencing. The money seems low to us (and the prices on TPIR seem ridiculously low) but to the people at the time it was a shock. Similar to what we’re going through now. Makes me wonder what kind of reaction future generations will have to time capsule shows featuring the 2020s.😮

Funny that Gene had a blue suit on during the show and then closed it out with a brown suit. Obviously the ending is from another episode.

The wardrobes were all (or mostly) changed for Gene's sign-off. Was this how it originally aired, or did you splice that in because of the audio issue?

Today is May 19, 2020. As Covid-19 (the Corona virus) rages on, the people who follow the scientific advice KNOW that tRUMP is the worst U.S. president if ALL time. He is narcissistic; unintelligent; racist... and, all around, unfit to be President. He has handled THIS virus epidemic (in THIS country) like it's a hoax, made up by the Democratic party; and, he has handled this virus epidemic as if it will magically disappear. He has suggested that people can have disinfectant injected into their bodies, if they have the Corona virus.
tRUMP WON'T be elected again!! He's just plain awful!! He WISHES he could FIRE this virus; but, viruses don't work that way.
Wake up and smell the coffee! January 20, 2021 we willl be saying, "President Biden"; and, Trump will be preparing to go to prison!!

      Probably true.
And now, instead of making more fuel efficient cars, they’ve going to “hybrid” vehicles which means we’ve regressed to mining precious metals. The car I bought in 1998 is more fuel efficient than any new car today, even some of the hybrids. Insane.
