I agree, even for those who believe that much of politics is bought and paid for...sold by the bunch? That's still a strange setup to segue into that way of thinking.
@ I wasn't a fan of polyester (double) knit or micro-miniskirts, but most of the clothes were far from hideous, and in general they looked a lot better than the styles the last few years, where everyone looks as though they've been poured into clothes that are at least two sizes too small, with suit pants and jacket sleeves at least 2 inches too short. In the 70s, people who wore such ill-fitting clothes were only the poorest ones or comedians like Laurel and Hardy.
1:49. She reminds me of that chick that was in the Romeo and Juliet movie (Olivia Hussey) This contestant has a beautiful simple face and lovely long hair. I think she would cut my refractory period down to about 1/3rd of the normal time and that is on a bad day.

@@tomloft2000 I read that Dawson wanted out of his contract with MG so he could focus on FF, which is more than understandable, but he was cut no slack because he was such a strong draw. Barker annoys me to no end in his apperances on MG. Despite the good, charitable things he's done for animals over the years (sincere kudos to him for that), he bugs me the way he behaves on MG, very smarmy. His façade of easy-going assuredness belies the insecurity that one could glimpse during his appearance coinciding with the switch-to-a.m. rigmarole at the end of 77 in that week's appearances, particularly the end-of-week ones when, one can suppose, tension might've understandably been in the air (e.g. in episode 1090 - to Gene: "Oh, is that what we're doing[, accommodating Match Game]?" And his slimy innuendos such as the one you cite (akin to 'while you're down there, luv' to Learned) which are very telling and lend definite credence to the sexual harassment and discrimination by him that came to light in the 90's and 2000's when such behavior was beginning to be less and less acceptable than in the days 'when America was great,' in the Seventies when it more socially-acceptable to publicly objectify people for a laugh.

Brett and Charles both made their first appearances the following week, the third week of the show's existence. But, they were still not "regulars" at that point. Not sure when they became regulars.
Charles and Brett's first episode are next weeks panel, episode 11-15. Charles becomes a regulars in episode 106 and Brett in episode 26. Funny how Mark Goodsman said on the 1975 New Years Eve MG episode that Charles, Richard and Charles had been there from the beginning when actually Richard was the only one there from the beginning in episode 1. Well if you count Gene as well.. ;0)
I think the earlier episodes are a little too staid and a tad boring. I think the show was much better when the questions became less generalized and more "story" oriented.
I once read a rumor that the panelists were moved around after Richard Dawson was upset when a contestant on episode 6 called on 'Richard" for the Super Match and Jim Rayburn thought she meant Richard Thomas and went with him, but Dawson claimed she was looking at him. Since they were seated in such a way as to make it almost impossible to tell which one the contestant was looking at and since Dawson made such a stink about it, they moved the two Richards so that it would be easier to tell which one the contestant was looking at when they called "Richard" and they moved the others around as well to disguise the fact they were moving the two Richards. I believed it since Richard Dawson is so well known to get petulant and argumentative. But he was also the leading force that drove the show into the hilarity gutter we all loved it for.
Smokr I just saw that episode and even though we can’t see from her eye point I think she meant Dawson and so did the cameraman because the camera idmm went to Dawson then to the other after Gene somehow thought Thomas ...
Never understood why the show would book two people with the same name on the same week but I guess they could only book when the panelist was opened so I guess that is what happened. I would say part of the leading force. Gene had already known the game needed the comedy to make it in the ratings as that is what save MG60's from being canceled, it was but with still episode to be shot they changed it and the ratings went up so the network uncanceled it and it lasted until 1969 the first go around. As you can see Richard was already joking and kidding around from the start so you could see where the show was headed, and I believe other panelist were also but not as much as Richard..
I liked Bob, especially on The Price Is Right. But I didn't watch TPIR as much as I do MG, just seemed kind of boring even with Bob talking, like Gene did, with the audience and the contestants and being funny at time. I still like Gene better I think thou.. ;0)
