- We have now officially hit the mark on episodes that haven't been seen by many Match Game fans in a long while outside of Canada. The last time this episode was show in the USA, it was 2006. Enjoy this stretch of episodes upcoming now! Robert Culp, Brett Somers, Jack Klugman, Jo Ann Pflug, Richard Dawson, and Pat Carroll
Had no idea Robert Culp was so funny. And Pat Carroll was a hoot!
pretty fair players , too
Robert Culp played such diabolical bad guys on Columbo so well.
her bar line was funny
Pat would fun to have a couple beers with.
Oh, those goofy '70s wide lapels and polyester suits. Thank God for The Ramones.
Jonathan Winters and Gene used to be neighbors. Must have had some crazy parties!
Not as crazy as Larry's parties.
Gene didn't drink and after the mid 50s Jonathan Winters got sober. Still I'll bet it'd be fun to hang out.
Arpège is a 1927 perfume by Lanvin. It is considered to be one of the world's classic scents.
Jack Klugman, "What's the difference??!!!" to Brett.
The biggest helmet hair on TV!
I just want to pat her hair down. 😁
This is great, the first thing I thought of was nympho but I KNEW it would be a loser
9:34
Someone at the soundboard got trigger happy with the " 'Awwww' crowd sweetener button", playing it just BEFORE the last two answers are even revealed. Haha!
LOL
They need another stage for Sue and Barbara's hair.
Their hair had their own dressing room.
You two are funny. 😂
Robert Culp was 43 here and Pat Carroll was only 46 and she is still alive!
Jo Ann's dress/blouse is beautiful!!!💙
Dawson,s first head to head match win! on the fourth attempt though
and yet they STILL pick him (go figure)
I believe it was his 9th total attempt (not including the three missing episodes (31-33).
That sure is some big hair!
Yep! Enough hair for three women!
Welcome to the '70's!
She's in training for Vegas
21:05 I want to see what sort of shenanigans Jo Ann, Richard and Carol were engaged in-looks like they were having fun, and Carol may have started it. What a great guest star she was!
Klugman is off to the races again.
Yes, but, he doesn't know when to stop. It was funny once, but his constant attacks on his wife are sophomoric at best.
@@nuwavedave Some people will agree with you on your opinion, but there are some who thought Jack Klugman was funny to. Personal preference I guess.
well turtles do not come out of their shells period! but I love this show anyway! I forgot them!
I noticed after the commercial break Gene goes without the lapel during the Super Match
And keeps the hand-held mic during the regular game.
Wonder if the "Chase" 2 episodes earlier did damage to it and it just now showing up. ;0) We never did see what happened when Mclean caught up with Gene. Other than them running to the right of the scene, they tried to follow, the panel laughing and Gene coming back on stage from the left side holding mic wire, picking up the hand held and getting back into shot for the commercial break. Then Gene telling Mclean sorry I thought one kiss per ep was enough.. Would love to know what happen but I just evil that way.. ;0)
@@sdlively27oh yes, I remember that whole ridiculous scene that stole the moment from that sweet contestant and Brett who had just won $2500. I felt so bad for that girl left standing there alone when a host's first duty is always to the contestant. Shame on McLean and Gene. I'm all for antics but there's no excuse to abandon a contestant alone on stage.
I thought nothing could outdo Barbara's hair. Then here comes Sue! Lol
They all look stoned!!!
2:20 That was used in a GSN Match Game promo in 2000

Was it an original broadcast error or an error during the recording of this episode off of TV that there's a small strip at the far right of the screen during the opening, that the orange screen showing the celebrities doesn't cover the whole screen?
I think the camera was off its mark?
Pat Carroll always looks like she just got up and came to the show in her moomoo. But she,s funny.😊
Pat Carroll: voice. If only she knew how true that statement would become later with Ariel in The Little Mermaid
Why does Brett and Jack remind me of Archie and Edith?
Dark Helmet is going to lose all her cash in Vegas.
Is it too soon for Annie Hall?
Yes, but I had the same thought.
Thomas Simmons I had to review why I wrote this. 8:29
Thinking of the era, I said Grayson Hall (actress on Dark Shadows from 1967 to 1971 and Academy Award nominee for a film in the 1960s).
Knife? KNIFE? it could be any kind of knife. Unless pat said scalpel, RIOT!
they said, same thing.
The start of Richard being picked, women giving him his number (probably) and a lot of angry, whiny, bitter old ladies and men in the comment section complaining about him.
ROFL! Another fine episode! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! ;0) ROFL! love ya Jack! ;0) ROFL! Love ya audience! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Kathy! I went with Larry! ;0) What's the different! ;0) Little slow there Gene but I still love ya! ;0) Gene got a haircut I think.. ;0) shed? Boys!
I like Brett but the girl can't handle five seconds of silence
She loves the attention, no doubt. 😏
she disrupts the contestants and other panelists to the point of distraction
she can really be obtuse at times , too
and , she criticizes other panelists for taking to long but takes umbrage when she is disparaged for doing the same thing - it gets old
@@michaelnivens6267 - very much so.
fight the shredder!!!!
So they are starting to choose Richard.
This was only Richards first win. they chose him 3 times before
Unfortunately, yes
This was the ninth time Richard has been chosen so far. It was his first win. (Note: episodes 31, 32, and 33 are missing/lost, so the following stats don't take those shows into account.)
Bert Convey has already had 4 wins; Charles, Stu Gilliam, Betty White, and Jo Ann Pflug 2 each; Brett, Michael Landon, Richard Thomas, Ann Elder, Carolyn Jones, and Bobby Van 1 each.
Considering that RD is the only celebrity to have appeared on every episode and has been chosen more than any other celeb, it's interesting that it's taken this long for him to actually score a successful head-to-head match.
During this first season in 1973 Match Game became the #1 most watched daytime TV show and remained there until 1976 when Family Feud took the top spot away.
Richard Dawson was on both shows. I don't believe it is a coincidence. Dawson was the draw. He was the most watched from '73 well into the 80's.
I also believe I've noticed that young female Match Game champions were more likely to pick Richard than the (somewhat rare) men and older women.
Men seemed more inclined to select the lovely Jo Ann, game show host Bert Convy, CNR, and other guests/semi-regular panelists. Except when Richard provided the $500 or $250 Super Match wins.
Champions often seemed to feel obliged to pick the celebrity who had given them the Super Match answer they won money with. I.E., when Brett gave the answer "Belly Dancer" for $500 the contestant went back to her for the H2H match. I believe the H2H attempt was unsuccessful. It is logical to play it that way, though.
In this game Barbara did the same, winning $500 with the answer Monty Hall (host of Let's Make A Deal) and $5000 on the H2H. $5500 won with Richard Dawson, bringing his total for the season to $8,750 given away on MG.
(Richard also broke a 3-3 tie with scalpel to win the regular game for Barbara as well.)
Joanna Phlug Needs To GO, A.W.O.L.
Brett never shuts her babbling, drinking mouth. She’s very annoying & sometimes the other celebrities think the same 2. She leans on u 2 steal N answer. And she ain’t funny. That laugh omg.
I do agree that is why Jack left her !
Calm down angry, bitter old cat lady..
Take your meds and a nap.
💯💯💯👏👏👏👏🤣🤣🤣
