I bought this for my daughter and installed Bazzite it runs 1080p gaming like a dream. 99% of all games run 60FPS or better with full settings. This thing is perfect for a "steam machine" with Bazzite. There WAS a nasty bluetooth bug last update but they fixed it.

The main reason why ValvE hasn't released a new version is because everyone decided to blindly support Ngreedia and Ngreedia hates open source software and don't bother in releasing their drivers in such form.
But since everyone can't understand what a horrible company Ngreedia is, they all will blame ValvE and Linux when their "magical" Ngreedia GPU doesn't work with SteamOS.
So blame the correct culprit, not ValvE or Linux.

I honestly think PCs like this are the future of pc gaming for most people. Graphics cards are just going to keep getting more expensive. With Intel and AMD taking what they learn from their graphics card divisions and sticking them into integrated graphics, unless you have a professional reason for buying the newest graphics cards, I think this is where people will turn to. With nvidia not needing gamers due to how much they make in the AI realm, it's not like we're going to see a big price drop in their future cards. Gamers' best hope for affordable gaming cards has now become Intel's battlemage since AMD will price their cards lower than nvidia, but they'll also perform a bit lower too unless they surprise us. So, they'll be pretty even with nvidia on a fps per dollar scale.

I appreciate that many would be using FSR and framegen on a device like this. But I do think it's important to show performance without these features on since not all games have these options accessible and for some, the visual or latency penalty isn't worth it. It also could also be a good way to show just how substantial the framerate uplifts are with these tools.

it’s interesting to see all these comments on price. my first mac mini was 499 back in 2004 - i still think ~$500 is the sweet spot if you pack enough into it and this one sure packs a punch. the SER8 is on sale for about the same price if you value upgradability but think this one is a better fit for me.

I would just buy a steamdeck or legion go before I bought a box for the price of this. I dont care how much more performance it has. At least the other 2 are actual handhelds not a tiny square that needs a tv or monitor to be used.

well, this is a htpc, desktop and can play games, the ones you mention are only the last one, not the same product or market

funny u mention it, I’m evaluating a Go for 2 weeks (after ditching the Ally after 2 weeks). it’s really tempting to get this form factor - more memory and smaller profile. I’m usually docked from one location to the next so I really question how important a small screen is esp when I can get a portable HDMI monitor if I’m not gaming, I might be able to get away w using my iPadPro as a monitor - it seems silly to carry more than 1 screen around. this is just my personal use case - i have no doubt handhelds are great for others!
