God that's refreshing...A guitarist's guitarist that puts the song and the sound as his first priority, rather than oohing and aahing everybody with shred. You know this guy could tear it up with speed if he wanted to. And that sound! I feel like I'm watching the sunrise from earth orbit. Absolutely first-rate musicianship and sound and total respect for the song!!!!!
hello , try also the luke cyrus version. simple but oh so moving ! and check out his guitar tone.. hypnotic. and , all respect due to Johnny, my preference goes to Luke.
The depths and layers that he is able to achieve in the chord augmentation incorporated with the different octave passage ways enabling Johnny to weave in and out of the melody is astounding, And it is pretty fucking bad ass. Love it!
Johnny A's version of Wichita Lineman is a masterpiece and has always been my favorite version of the song next to the original by the late and great Glen Campbell.
Glens version on the Jools Holland show, is THE BEST...Glen is older, i think its '09 , but he absolutely kills it, And i was around in 69 when it outsold the Beatles. Who werent too bad either-
Expert & wonderfully understated rendition. It's curious to see so many other performers attempt to embellish on a (perfectly) simple song - and, in the process, never come close to the intent of the original. This classic song plays (and sings) itself.
This man's talent is off the chain... if you ever get an opportunity to see him... it's a NO-Brainer... hands down... one of the most amazing under-the-radar guitar geniuses out there... Seen him countless times ~ and his presence/personality is Boston-strong and appealing !! Cheers
Saw him backing JOE in Bournemouth, England a few years back. A man who respects his instrument and is worthy of it. Tuneful, melodic and restrained. Long live.
Funny I don’t know you From 7 years ago. You might have beliefs totally different From mine and we could be enemies! But this is a testiment to awesome.music. Whatever we believe we can both recognize and appreciate this woderful piece of music For what it is; sheir genisus. In this we can be united...
This song has such a life of its own, and this guitarist just gave it a "never expires" shelf life! That guitar has an amazing tone! Nice back up players too! More please!
This is called dynamics. Sensitive touch, soulful playing. Many, many young guitarists don't get it--always balls to the wall, even on ballads. Great song and playing.
Johnny A thank you for giving me something worth escaping to, especially on this day in time we are all faced with dealing with the insanity of what is happening in our fragile world, gonna raise my glass to you tonight sir for your talent, your hard work and perseverance over the many years you have been doing this go home put this song on continuous play and just drift away into your music, what a beautiful way to go!
One of the most beautiful songs ever written, with or without words. And I need you more than want you,and I want you for all times. Thanks for the post. I can't imagine this being played with any more feeling.
Played with great taste. It's nice to see a modern artist give such sensitive treatment to a poignant melody. It allowed a song that in its original form may sound dated, to have a new life.
Such a clean, quality tone Johnny has. Would love to see him in the midwest again. I was goingbto see him at Knuckleheads but covid took it away. Massive skill and talent!
Johnny A, this glassy smooth guitar work truly inviting! Just come on in, have a drink, relax, listen to the master. Savannah Ga. way south on the warm atlantic ocean, palm trees, sand, and johnny. a. SWEET!
Agreed! He is an amazingly talented musician. I've met him several times after shows and he has always been very gracious to fans and accomodating with autographs and pictures.
I fell in love with this song for the first time driving across Kansas keeping in touch with my husband via the cell phone (the new lineman). The chords are absolutely gorgeous!
Saw him perform this at the 'Turning Point' in Rhinebeck, NY. Amazing trio and Johnny is a master of technique, tone and arranging songs for guitar. I don't think he ever got the attention and accolades he deserves.
Jimmy Webb is a marvelous song writer! Hearing this arrangement by Johnny A, I can't help but see the face of Glen Campbell in my mind. It was Glen Campbell who made this song famous; and for good reason. Glen Campbell was (is) one of the finest guitar players and singers I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. Interestingly, it was this song arranged by Johnny A that got him noticed by Steve Vai. It's a magical song.
I respect all the instumental guitarists out there, re-shaping the face of rock today, because this is truly irresistable. Satriani, Hendrix, Page, Beck, Petrucci, Vai, Malmsteen, Santana, Healey, Clapton, Les Paul, Hammet, Johnson, Moore, Johnny A, Gilbert and the whole works are accomplishing feats never before dreamed, and know how good it could later be... Sensational.
The first time I heard Johnny A's interpretation of "Wichita Lineman" was on "Idiot's Delight," hosted by Vin Scelsea on WFUV (public radio at Fordham University, NY, NY, and online), and it's just as magical now as it was back then. Transcendent music.
A very nice heartfelt instrumental interpretation of "Witchita Lineman". Your guitar captures the mood of the song....wide open prairie spaces, loneliness, hope.
God that's refreshing...A guitarist's guitarist that puts the song and the sound as his first priority, rather than oohing and aahing everybody with shred. Guitar playing like this is few and far between nowadays, and thats unfortunate.
I couldn’t be more impressed with Johnny A’s guitar playing in this song…Absolutely brilliant! 👍🏿💥👍🏿💥
I'm sure Glen would be proud of your rendition of probably one of the most song of Love. Thank you Johnny A
the finest example of this beautiful tune, solo guitar, I have yet heard...absolutely beautiful..
hello , try also the luke cyrus version. simple but oh so moving ! and check out his guitar tone.. hypnotic.
and , all respect due to Johnny, my preference goes to Luke.
I was captured and hooked the first time I heard it on his LP. Here live, oila! Merci Monsieur Johnny A.
The depths and layers that he is able to achieve in the chord augmentation incorporated with the different octave passage ways enabling Johnny to weave in and out of the melody is astounding, And it is pretty fucking bad ass. Love it!
He really captures the essence of that song. A lonely, far away from home feel. Johnny is about the artistry. Great Job, great post

Wow. That was beautiful. Didn't think a version without Campbell's voice would be so moving...
Campbell? Who is Campbell? There is Johnny CASH?
I don’t think anyone can listen to that without hearing Glenn Campbell’s voice
This song is beautiful it should be put on a platinum disk and shot into space so it outlasts us!
Not only is the musicianship above standard, but there's something to be said for great sound mixing. This has a Moody Blues feel to it. Superb sound.
I can watch this over and over and over and over again....never ever ever delete this...PLEASE....this is my sanity in an insane world!!

Favorite cover of all time respectfully impeccably done, and heartfully.
Wow! What a gentle spirit he has. Expensive chords!
truly beautiful and moving....this is almost as good as hearing Glen sing it!
This is called dynamics. Sensitive touch, soulful playing. Many, many young guitarists don't get it--always balls to the wall, even on ballads. Great song and playing.

Such a nice song played with emotions. I love your version, thanks.
Been loving this ever since he did it. This makes my heart just ache ... Johnny is fantastic.
Supreme mastery of his instrument. The endless ways he makes it sing.

Wow, my first listening experience! Live, Hallowell, Maine. Johnny blew the room away!
Played with great taste. It's nice to see a modern artist give such sensitive treatment to a poignant melody. It allowed a song that in its original form may sound dated, to have a new life.
"Wichita Lineman" will never sound dated. Timeless. What a treatment Johnny A gives it. Wow. Meditation for my ears.

What a Sound , Johnny A ! 💕💕💕 And in my Memory , I See YOU Glen Campbell !💕💕💕💕💕
I have not heard of Johnny A before today. This is great material. He may be the best kept secret in the guitar world.
Just met him a half hour ago at a local SAm Ash. Super nice guy!
Perfect in every way! God bless Jimmy Webb and Johnny A.
Johnny A, this glassy smooth guitar work truly inviting! Just come on in, have a drink, relax, listen to the master. Savannah Ga. way south on the warm atlantic ocean, palm trees, sand, and johnny. a. SWEET!
Soulful and smoky and so understated-what a touch--never fails to move me emotionally!!
Agreed! He is an amazingly talented musician. I've met him several times after shows and he has always been very gracious to fans and accomodating with autographs and pictures.

Masterfully played, Sir. You did justice to an immortal song.
What a Song , and so Beautiful !

Just coming back to this...forgot how good of a guitarist Johnny is!
MAGNIFICENT ! Haven't used that adjective in a long time....
Truly one of a kind. This man is soooo gifted. Amazing playing.
