Wow, that deck is in amazing condition. I still have the 8 track version of that model ( 38 ) In almost the same condition. I pulled it out of storage ( 6 years ) and the dam thing still works great. I also have the DBX controllers and they still work. I always belived Tascam Reel to Rell machines were fantastic machines mechanically and sound quality. I am a service tech and repaired and calibrated many of them and they all come out well in the end. Enjoy that one !

They are outstanding decks both recording and playback. You can't compare these to normal 4 track home reel to reels like a Pioneer RT-909 or an Akai GX-747. These are 2 track 2 channel vs 4 track 2 channel. The quality at 7 1/2 IPS is much better than those 4 track decks. At 15 IPS is where the magic starts. Much more realistic bottom end and better dynamic range. I've owned many decks that record at 15 IPS and 30 IPS. I've always preferred 15 IPS. The only thing I have to complain about the Tascam 32 is it almost sounds too good. Meaning it sounds so much like the source material I wish it had more of an analog sound, like the Studer's, MCIs or the Revox B77.

Honestly that’s a tough call, they are both great sounding decks. The E2 is probably a little more robust in design and sound.
I would put the E2 more inline with the later Tascam 42. I have a 42 I am restoring now.
