There are two types of AITA posts: - The ones with titles like "AITA for throwing my girlfriend's new puppy into a blender" that somehow manage to make OP seem like an absolute saint by the end. - The ones with titles like "AITA for teaching my young child how to share" that somehow manage to make OP look like the most evil motherfucker on earth by the end.
More like - "AITA for refusing to house our in-laws for Christmas after they drove 500 miles here" where it turns out that the in-laws were literally attempting to enslave OP, rob their house and kill their child - "AITA for calling my SO silly for spitting out breakfast made by me" where it turns out OP did intentionally throw their SO's new puppy, their phone, wallet and their newborn child into a blender and doesn't understand what's the big deal.
nah, I just think everyone judges from their political views alot, and it feels like that because people have extreme opinions online. I often disagree with the general consensus in moderate AITA cases (which there's alot of). You see women are often slightly favored in AITA threads is one small example of this.
That dude whose wife cooked got me heated. It doesn't matter if it was completely garbage food. You try it you give her appreciation for her effort to do something special and out of the blue. You make light, joke in a non demeaning way, clean up together, and make it an evening to bond. She legit wanted to show you love and you told her that wasn't good enough and rejected it. That's a super hard YTA
Yeah, that guy's a dick, if I was lucky enough to meet that special person and they did that much for me just for no reason, I would never stop showing appreciation.
Also the other comments. The painting example, aren't they implying that things like, kids drawn stuff for idk, Mother's day or Father's day, isn't good enough either? They try their best, but it won't be a Da Vinci. Absolute AH, all of them.
I think there is nothing inherently wrong about telling someone they suck ass at something…… but she obviously tried so hard. Him describing her trying to make him happy by cooking as a waste of time is what made me mad.
exactly because why expect perfection as if nobody can have flaws?? 😭 i genuinely cant sympathize with these ppl bc empathy shouldnt be this hard of a social skill...
yeah he should have tried it and been more polite about it but he is at best a lah, you know in a world without criticism nobody would get better at anything
The girlfriends in the car had me rolling... 😭 My genuine initial assumption was simply that both of them are just, y'know, kinda stupid. As soon as I read "I was reading my book and watching tiktoks the whole time" I knew she was reaaally straining the story & totally disingenuous about her grudges. I was totally imagining someone smiling and twiddling their thumbs for 48 minutes in the silent parked car.
@@idaowens6237 It comes off as though she lacks practice and experience in sitting with her emotions and identifying them, at this level of disconnection.
For the last story, i think it's just hilarious imagining the kid playing soccer with his friends, he sees the time and goes "oh boy it's 5 pm, time to get my daily hose session, my neighbor is waiting for me" perfect story to end the video on after all those anger inducing threads
@@mindjab lol im cool with it and laughed my ass off at the house tours i wish he'd do more 🤣 i have the same dry humor and lowkey play contempt it's so rare to find it
The last one sounds like it is straight out of a sitcom. 😂 I could easily imagine the annoying next door neighbor kid coming over and having the TV dad spray water on him for a reoccurring bit. It's seriously like Dennis the menace and Mr. Wilson.
AITA is like Quora. It asks for real people with real experiences, and gets creative writers using it to practice until they're good enough to convince everyone that bullshit really happened
To me, the birthday dinner from the wife who can't cook feels even more meaningful than it would have if she was someone who cooks all the time. Like... who cares if the food sucks? Isn't it so thoughtful of her to make the effort and get out of her comfort zone for her husband's birthday? Her trying was a show of vulnerability and trust, and then OP just shat all over it... It could have easily been a story they joke about together ("the food was bad but it was made with love!") years from now but now it is likely a source of hurt for the wife. Sigh.
The worst part of that story 100% of people seem to have missed: she actually SAID NO to what he wanted to do for his birthday dinner! Ordering out was the OP trying to accommodate her not wanting to go out for his birthday. OP is an AH for not trying her dinner (some things like creme brulee can be burnt but taste amazing, after all) but also a *weak* AH for not just saying up front, "it's my birthday and I want to go out to X restaurant," which would've been COMPLETELY understandable. He pretty much backed himself into the AH corner. It's good to appreciate effort, but wow, if your partner wants to go out for dinner, goddamn, go out with them! It's THEIR birthday! *ESH.*
He could have been more sensitive and delicate telling her that her cooking wasn't good. No one wants to eat terrible cooking, you dread every meal, but don't be a jerk about it being bad food
@@WynneL This isn't taking account the possibility that she did indeed practice before hand (we can't assume she didn't since she was confident, you don't just go and magically get better at cooking) and truly thought she cooked a good enough dinner for them both to enjoy. She obviously didn't do this to purposely make him eat bad food for his birthday. If she was excited, she was most likely hoping her efforts didn't go to waste and he would like the dinner. She also didn't force him to accept her want to cook for him. She told him she wanted to cook instead of going out, he accepted, that's his gift. If he really wanted to go out, he could've nicely turned her down and insist that he wanted to go out for his birthday, but he didn't. Let's not forget that he didn't even _try_ the food. It doesn't hurt to take a few bites. It's food, not GREAT food but it's not by any means poison.
honestly considering he didn't even try it there's a good chance the food was good but just looked bad, sometimes that happens. also if he really hated her cooking that much why did he not confirm what they were doing for dinner rather than sit around and wait for her to get everything ready?
As far as the picky eater thing goes, it’s been interesting and fun to introduce my boyfriend to new food over the past year. We’re both autistic and have sensory issues, but I’ll eat almost anything while the texture of a food can really get to him. He’s been really enjoying discovering new food and I’d never think to make him change his diet and sensory issues can be very difficult. Pete is a loser and I’m glad his boss laughed at him. 😂
I don't find picky eating as a particularly damning character flaw, but it does make me chuckle to see people get so uppity about stuff like that. Bless that OP's boss lmao
@@howinnocentistheday I’m sorry you had to deal with that ☹️. My dad is an adventurous eater and also Slovak, so I’d just eat whatever he did. The only things I can’t eat are melons and cucumbers because they have a similar flavor profile. My boyfriend doesn’t like soup because (his words) “he doesn’t like warm liquids”. To each their own 😂
this is exactly my relationship with my partner as well, except he's the one who will eat anything and i'm the autistic picky eater with sensory issues who he's introducing new foods to slowly but surely. and agreed, pete is the asshole and he deserved what he got!
The one about the baby is the wedding I am honestly wondering what OP did just because her sister seems very unusually cold to her and the fact that the family is also against her. It seems like we’re missing the backstory of why this happened and I don’t really want to make a judgment without that context. I’m also wondering if her telling OP that it was child free was to try to get her to not come because she really didn’t want her there.
My girlfriend tried baking a pie one day that just... didn't come out right. Overbaked on one side, underbaked on the other, weird taste etc. She and her mother took one bite and both stated that it was inedible. I tried to make her feel good and started shoveling the cake in my mouth and praising it, then she told me "you don't have to pretend it's good" lmao
@@viktor111h Haha, wasn’t sure if the lack of clarity was because of the quality of this particular creation. 😝 My general rule is, if it’s sweet and fluffy and generally served with icing, it’s a cake. If it’s sweet and found in a pan/not fluffy, it’s a pie. Hope your girlfriend is now making more identifiable confections now. 😂
Love the AITA Series! I also couldnt get enough of the scary videos debunking! I could seriously just watch that for hours since I already do a similar thing with my friend where we watch "Scary" Videos and just kinda rip of them for hours
I usually don't hang around AITA stuff because it's usually made up and can get pretty boring, but John makes it so entertaining to watch. I love these vids so much
The thought of a kid standing there getting hosed down while talking about Bluey is so cute 😂😂😂 It sounds like a fun exchange, and if the parents haven’t come to confront him about it, they probably know it’s something he enjoys.
I love the hose kid one. Sad that an additional comment was missed (idk how deep it would have been) where someone said that the kid could become friends with OPs kids and he responded with, 'no, this kid is my friend, my kids have enough friends.' XD
"I (30f) am a picky eater." John: okay, well this isn't a support group." Your intonation on that response, John, caused me to spit my drink everywhere. Thanks 😂
I love the point John makes that there's always _so much more_ to the story than we're given. Because, yes, everyone will paint themselves to be the absolute perfect God-sent angel and for a good number of these, you just know there has to be a history of something for a the "villain" to be as petty as they are to the OP.
I JUST watched your vod of this the other day. The story about the kid and the lawn had me rolling, it took such a turn I did not expect! It genuinely might be the funniest thing I've heard in a long time and your presentation of it made it all the better. I've been watching these on your twitch channel instead of here but watching it here on youtube I have to say the editing is really nice. I may just have to switch over to watching theses segments here and get over my fear of missing out on content that didn't make the cut. Either way, I'm loving these videos so much and I hope they get more views then they have been
The birthday dinner one makes me so angry. If he wanted to deal with it more maturely, he should ABSOLUTELY have tasted them all and then maybe have gone along the lines of "I appreciate all the work you did, this is an amazing effort and I love you for doing this for me even though it's not perfect yet. Do you want to try it again together until we get it right?" It's showing her that he knows the work she did, that it's appreciated AND it offers a mutual bonding moment to try BOTH of their cooking skills together the next time. Either it'll taste great or it's just a fun time trying it. It could be a thing they do on sundays instead. JFC the ungratefulness of this dude, throw him in the trash.
The comments are infuriating as all hell, too, it feels like a circle-jerking thread of Twitter incels. I heavily discourage going to read them, these people obviously have little human contact
The thing that kills me is that he didn't even try it. All those replies saying, "Well she shouldn't have tried cooking for you if her cooking sucks," but aside from something being a bit burned on one side -- which happens if you don't know your oven very well yet -- we literally don't even know if it was bad at all. He just ordered himself takeout without trying anything while she ate the food she made without any problems.
As a long time autistic viewer, it made me really happy to see you take the “picky eater”‘s side! So many of us are labeled as “picky” because of our sensory issues, even though they can induce actual physical health issues. For me, it’s green peppers/green bell peppers, having them (especially in great quantities) is enough to make me feel nauseous and like I’m having a panic attack, but it’s not something that’s really taken seriously by a lot of people out there and I (along with many other autistic people) are mocked for being “picky”. So genuinely, thank you for that.
Yeah, sometimes it really feels like you're not supposed to eat a certain thing. My dad can't comprehend I hate tomato but like ketchup. I've said to him that not only the taste is 100% different, but tomato (and other soft - gelatinous foods) feels like I'm eating slime or mucus (yeah, sorry for the mental image). It just makes me want to throw up and I can't help it.
See, to me that's a legitimate reason. I get annoyed with picky eaters who have never tried anything besides nuggets and buttered noodles, and have zero reason to not have tried anything other than, "I'm just picky!" Like, you don't even know if you're picky yet, because you haven't tried anything new lol.
I follow other reddit readers and the comments are ausually so mean for no reason, bunch of adults going "well if i didnt eat my dad spanked me and I turned out fine" and its crazy to me, as someone who was hit because I didnt eat certain foods, I didnt get less picky, if anything it made em even worse. People just love to dogpile on others so they can justify their mean attitudes towards neurodivergent people.
@Bane Amesta I'm the same way, and have the same issue. There's been more than a few foods where I like one version of it, and dislike the other - and its always pointed out, as if the weird slimeball texture of a tomato is the same as marinara sauce. Some people just forget textures exist, I suppose🤷♂️
I've realized I may be on Reddit too much. Reading AITA in my spare time is my go to. I had read the majority of these myself already. But John's reactions make them so much better.
There are SO MANY stories where a pregnant woman was ABSOLUTELY the asshole. Like the one where OP hid her pregnancy from her family because it happened right after SIL got pregnant and she knew SIL would lose her shit claiming OP was trying to 'steal her thunder'. Then OP went into PRE-TERM labor at the baby shower and had to be taken to hospital because her life, and her not-yet-fully-formed baby's life were on the line, and SIL got mad and suggested OP did it on purpose, to take attention away from her. Pregnancy isn't a pass to be a dick.
Also like....don't most families WANT kids to be born at around the same time so the kids can play with each other????? So they should be happy multiple young people in their family are having children?
@@Currentlyfreezing 100%. I had my kid late so my son has no cousins close to his age. He's an only child and that sucks for him. Not only that, but the audacity of the pregnant SIL to not give two shits about her own SIL, going into pre-term labor, is just.... as John says, she's not the AH, she's a Disney villain.
@@JSainte17 absolutely :( I hope your kid has many good friends though! I only speak from experience with my cousins who were all 4 years older than me or even more so it was hard to find common ground with all of them. Luckily I have a brother within a year from my age so I wasn't too lonely growing up.
Well picky eating is something I am here for. Some people just have sensory issues. I grew up in a houshold with neurodivergent people. I also don't understand why people get mad at picky eaters. Communication beforehand when attending meals with friends or family is always key so no complications are present. I have people who have unhealthy relationships with food due to ab×se that went on with food. Where they were forced to sit at the dinner table, sometimes missing school, until they finished their plate. Who is it killing if someone doesn't want to eat something?? No one.
usually I don't make comments/replies on videos like this but as a picky eater it is really annoying to have people get frustrated over me saying I don't wanna eat some specific things, I usually bring my own food or snacks if someone says they already planned out the meals beforehand and can't make a separate one. but when they say "Well, why don't you just try new things?" is so annoying, I can and have tried new things, but some things simply just don't work. I'd rather be "inconsiderate" and just bring my own meal instead of throwing up in front of everyone. my pickiness is also due to trauma as a child, so it isn't just as simple as me not expanding my horizons or being a baby. what's most annoying is people getting frustrated over what I order at restaurants, like, they aren't even preparing the meal and me ordering it is an entirely viable option, how is this personal?! sorry for the rant in my reply, you have a very nice pfp btw
As someone who gets a little annoyed at picky eaters let me tell you why: because it feels like sitting at a table with an oversized child. No grownup only eats things they enjoy. Part of being an adult
@@woutertron It's one thing to hate picky eaters for being annoying, but it's another thing to lie to yourself and say that adults don't only eat things they like. Sure, adults are more open to trying new things, but we're not gonna force-feed ourselves something that tastes/feels like literal shit just for the hell of it. Furthermore, we have more say over what we eat than children do, so by that logic, why would you deliberately choose to eat things that make you vomit? And don't even try to use health benefits as an excuse because there are plenty of foods that have the same benefits and *don't* taste like garbage, it's simply a matter of finding which ones suit your tastes and which ones don't. Just say you hate picky eaters and drop the last part, because your logic is utter bullshit Lmao
@@woutertron there is an actual reason for most of this. 25% of the population are “super tasters” - they have 50% more tastebuds than the average person. These people tend to not enjoy bitter/spicy food, strong flavors, etc. of course there are variations and people can learn to enjoy things individually. I hate when people think picky eaters are just spoiled. You can be picky and not act spoiled - they aren’t mutually exclusive. What’s really immature is sitting next to a grown adult who feels the need to judge/force others to conform to _their_ worldview. Talk about childish.
@@woutertron Being a true adult is about empathy and understanding the world doesn't conform to your specific values. Like I said, its not personal, and allowing someone to be comfortable at the dinner table shouldn't be so scandalous. When you force these things you can be creating an unhealthy relationship with food which can be traumatic or help them on their way to developing an ED. It has nothing to do with being childish and to say such invalidates the feelings of others who have led a different life to you. Besides why is your opinion on something you aren't eating more valid than the person who would eat it? Why do you feel entitled to someone else's body? I think if people really stopped long enough to ask, "Why does someone eating what makes them comfortable bother me?" They could trace it back to their family/parents forcing them to eat food even when they cried or they were full. That wasn't healthy and it never will be. Studies show when someone is forced to eat food they are more likely to develop a repulsion to it. In some cases the trauma can morph into phobias or EDs if the situation is a constant in their life. Everyone is allowed to like different things. Everyone is entitled to feeling safe and comfortable with food or dining out. You would avoid the mild irritation of a meal being uneaten if you employed healtht communication ahead of time. As someone who constantly cooks for my family and others I make sure with them ahead of time it's something you can eat. THAT is being a good host. An empathetic person who understands my taste doesn't suit everyone. I have lived by a very important philosophy that I think most people forget as soon as it doesn't benefit them. "Treat others the way you want to be treated." How would YOU like to be treated?
listening to your opinion on anything, whether it be AITA posts, youtubers houses, or video games, is always entertaining and makes even the worst of days 100x better. keep it up john! edit: 100x better because that hose post had me in tears
I think some people in that home cooking story are villainizing the wife's intentions. I do agree that a gift needs to be something you think the other person will appreciate, enjoy, and/or benefit from. The thought does count. In the painting example. If you know the person explicitly dislikes paintings, they're hyper critical of their home decor or something then even if there was a lot of time effort it's kind of being thoughtless to give it to them when you know they will not like it. But that's the problem, the thoughtlessness. But if you take a chance on something as long as it has thought and care behind it, that is something worth appreciating. Continuing with the painting, you may not do the best job ever but you can show a lot about how much attention you give your partner by trying to make something connected to their interests or even connected to your feelings you have with them. The wife does not sound like she was being petty or vindictive. She made a bad judgement call, except not even really because he didn't try the food. Which he should have unless he thought it was unsafe. My boyfriend shares foods with me that I'm fairly certain I won't like but that he enjoys and I just about always give it a chance because I could be wrong. Also, even when a gift doesn't land, you can use it as an opportunity to build that person up. Like committing to cooking with them so they can have the moment they were trying to make. Or, personably getting them a cooking class that you think they'd enjoy and benefit from.
I just want to say, I've been a fan of John's for several years now. I've always enjoyed his videos, and while I sit here, alone at work, I enjoy them all the more because he's one of the only TH-camrs who doesn't inundate his videos with ads. It's so nice to have something to passively listen to while lesson prepping and not have to endure any ads. Keep up all of the good work, John! You're always a delight to watch.
I know of an instance where a pregnant woman was the asshole. She harassed a disabled person for parking in the disabled spot when she was going to park there. She followed the disabled inside and cornered her and said "You took my spot. You have no idea how hard it is to be pregnant. I always park in disabled spots when I'm pregnant." stuff like that. The disabled person snapped and went off on the pregnant lady for not being able to keep her legs closed yet having the audacity to be an entitled (and law-breaking) mother. I've yet to hear a story of In Laws not being in the wrong, but I'll keep searching.
For the fifth story, I completely relate. And it’s not just that he didn’t even try it. It’s also the fact that he didn’t even appreciate the effort that she went through. Cooking is a time consuming and sometimes stressful fucking thing and to have somebody say that they won’t even try your food Just hurts me inside. My boyfriend always tries the food that I make him even though I continuously tell him that I’m not sure if it would be good because he saw how much work I put into it. It’s the classic “its the thought that counts“ kinda thing. On a side note, I could watch these all frickin day. I originally hate streams but I might just download twitch to watch you 😂
Okay, where are we getting this idea he didn’t eat the food? He literally tried the soup and the dessert. On top of that, the wife acknowledges she didn’t cook well. AND rejected _his_ idea for _his_ birthday dinner. Yeah, it was a good effort and he responded poorly. But he ALSO thanked her for her effort!! Why is the OP getting villainized here for wanting HIS birthday to be special? At WORST it’s an ESH.
@@shadamyandsonamylover from the post: "she...... told me at least i could've tried it" he did not try it then. i agree the soup line seems contradictory, but i think it was a case of him just imagining what it would taste like and not what it actually was. because the wife's line directly says he did not try any of the food. "AND rejected his idea for his birthday dinner. " bruh, she just wanted to make a nice home meal for him and give something to him that she personally made. why twist it so maliciously? and based on his words, it doesnt seem like he had any particular idea for any specific restaurant in mind. "But he ALSO thanked her for her effort!!" that he did, but then proceeded to say she shouldnt bother cuz her cooking sucks. so yeah, no wonder she got upset. its not about the fact he didnt want to eat it (tbf he shouldve at least tried). its about the response he gave.
@@parvonik1359 I agree his response wasn’t good. But he says she wanted him to try “everything” which indicates that he did eat some and just not all. You guys are bad faithing the husband hard here.
@@shadamyandsonamylover even if he tried some, it doesnt matter. one food tasting bad does not indicate another tastes bad too. argument stands - he shouldve tasted them all. either way it dont matter. husband responded badly, wife got upset. at least he acknowledges he was being harsh. theyll get over it in a week. im having more trouble with those reddit comments actually.
I love this content. Love how into it you get John and how passionate you can get about these. Also it's hilarious to see your reactions to some of the more outrageous things. Hope this keeps up, it's gold!
on the Birthday dinner story & specifically the painting comment- i made my bf a "shitty" painting of his dog for christmas one year and he still proudly hangs it next to the professional portrait of his dog his cousin happened to get him the same year (we didnt communicate- pure coincidence 😅). he knows i put a lot of thought & effort into it and that i tried something i normally wouldn't have (painting a dog) just to surprise him & didnt have to see all the practice sketches i made to appreciate the still pretty goofy looking result. ITS. THE. THOUGHT. THAT. COUNTS.
That last AITA post is a rare unicorn. That was so stupidly wholesome and just cute. Admittedly, I would be a little worried about the guy being a creep if I was the kid's parents, but after seeing his side of the story it legit just made me smile.
Okay, with the picky eater one, I'm glad John is more sympathetic to ones with sensory issues lol. I'm autistic/ADHD and some things I genuinely cannot or do not want to try and eat because if it smells off or looks weird, I cannot try to force it into my mouth because I know I won't tolerate it (and sometimes I'm proven wrong! I will attempt different foods when I'm ready to try!). And yes, I still get the crust off my bread when eating it, I cut it off myself though xD Also, the boss laughing at the ex-husband is hilarious, 10/10
Lmfao, that lesbian couple from story 3 is absolutely hilarious! 😂 I knew stupid people have a tendency to create problems/drama out of thin air, but this far surpasses all I've ever heard! 🤦♂️ I loved when OP said: "I'm a plan person!". The F%ck you're not! you're a toddler! 🤣 You don't make plans, you fully depend on your girlfriend to make one instead! 😂 And if she doesn't tell you what to do, you literally just sit around and do nothing like a little kid waiting in the car while mommy/daddy goes shopping for groceries! Be your own person for a change, girl! 🙃 It's so comically ironic how OP can't/doesnt want to think nor act on her own, meanwhile the person she trusts to plan her life for he is like: "nah, we don't need to coordinate with our friends, we'll just show up while everyone's leaving with their families and ask them if they wanna hang out with us a bit, surely they'll all say yes!" 🥴 Absolute gold! 😂
the graduation ceremony one has the same energy as that episode of Community where Abed sits in the waiting room for 26 hours and then says he was livid the entire time
I TOTALLY get having a completely child free events, regardless of familial connections, so i was kinda on her side, i cant handle being around kids, they're too much. But then the ending?! Her reasoning?! AN ASTRONOMICALLY BIG AH
This is exactly what I thought!! A childfree wedding excluding even family's children would've been fine.. but the ending? Absolutely not, rude asf stick to the rule if you're gonna have it!
It really paints the story as being not fully contextualized or flat out untruthful. Your sibling doesn't just pull antics like that without reason, something somewhere was a root cause for it and OP either omitted it or is lying about parts to get public opinion on her side.
I got SO upset over the wife cooking the birthday meal story! But even more so at the horrid comments in that thread! She tried to do something nice and special for him and he didn't even attempt to enjoy it! :(
Once I had cooked for my ex (we didn't live together) and had given it to him in a container. Next day he said it was delicious. I knew it was because my father and me had had it that day while my mother was in a mental health facility. So anyway months later he was saying how the salt was very low so it was ruined etc etc. Even if it was it can be added, better than having higher salt which can't be lowered. So anyway I was upset didn't say anything. Then he had cooked for my birthday, it wasn't good at all. My mother and me had to modify it still tasted very bland. I praised how good it was, he should make it more often for me etc etc. We have broken up years ago, to this day I never said it was bad. Some people just like putting other people down to control them and to feel good about themselves. If what this guy did my partner will do to me, I would be sad and crying for days. It's so bad to do to another person who tried so hard. Worse is people being like yeah morally you're the AH but realistically she should cook better to match your standards so soft or gentle AH. Not liking materialistic gifts makes sense because yeah you should know what they need/want/prefer. But for thoughtful ones where you make something like craft or food or poem, efforts matter even if end product is bad. He's definitely the AH, the biggest one at that. Sorry for the rant.
@@BluesofButterfly I literally cooked a roast chicken with vegetables for my ex. It was my first time cooking a chicken solo so I didn’t expect it to take 2 hours. When it was ready the carrots were burnt, the potatoes were still good (my favourite thing to cook is potatoes so they were probably the best thing on that plate) and the chicken was a little bit dry. I apologised but tried to promote the potatoes which they barely touched. For the rest of our relationship he would mention the burnt carrots when I talked about cooking which upset me because I tried to do a nice thing for him and his brother. Some men will only look at the results and not the effort put in I stg
@StarlightLilly DUDE making a whole ass chicken for the first time solo is HARD. If you don't have a controlled temp, other liquid seasonings etc. Veggies can easily get too dark when done all together. The fact that ONLY the carrots got completely burned, and the chicken dry (still happens even to vet cooks) yet the potatoes were fine? You did freakin great, and if the chicken is dry nothing a good sauce can't fix. Your ex is an entitled spoiled AH who did not deserve you.
That last story with the soccer kid got posted on Tumblr and everyone's just having a blast with it. That's amazing. I hope the kid and that dad become friends.
The wife cooking one sent me into a fit. The painting example too. I am a professional artist. I make art for a living. I have had a partner make me a tiny sculpture for my birthday that represented our relationship (she was not an artist) and I have had a family member paint me a picture and gift it to me. Are they masterworks? no. Do I still have both? obviously yes. They made them out of love. Out of thoughtfulness and care for me. They handmade something that was meant to have personal value to me. That means more to me than any masterwork I could get from a technically skilled stranger. My mom saved so many shitty drawings I did as a kid for her too. Because I made them FOR HER. She appreciated the thought and care that went into them. A home cooked meal by my mom is great, she's a great cook. Is she a Michelin-star chef? no. But her cooking has way more meaning to me than any fancy restaurant I have been to. I will never understand the people in that thread lol.
You're not meant to get 'emotionally invested' in people's drama they share on the internet lol. You only have to be emotionally invested in your own problems. You're free to listen to reddit stories as entertainment.
So, on the child free wedding thing. As a general rule, if someone goes no, no kids not even family, I think that's ENTIRELY valid. Because I flashback to when my aunt got married and I was the flower child and...... The thing I remember my mother saying the most is I would scream and run and scream if I got sat down and I somehow kept getting away and running up the stairs of the venue and DANGLING off the tiny balcony ledge thing where people could sit to get a higher view of various events, and I didn't throw any petals I just dumped them all on my aunts dress at the end of the aisle and.... Yeah you know what if you look at your niece or nephew, whatever the age (I was 3 in this situation) and they're a child and you go mmm.... No. Absolutely not no no no, no children. Then fine, I fully understand I wouldn't have let my 3 year old gremlin ass into the wedding either. But you gotta keep it consistent man. Like sounds like the two actually DON'T get along well, and it's just Polite Kindness to keep things from going belly up. But you can't just go not that baby, but every other child is actually fine. I mean you CAN, but you're a huge prick if ya do. But the story smells like febreeze over a trash can of dirty diapers, somethin don't add up.
I once spent 6 months making a painting for my now ex. They would brag about it to friends but never bothered to hang it up. It on the floor for over a year until I hung it up myself. People just don't appreciate hand made things.
I feel so bad for the wife that cooked her husband dinner and it failed. This hits so close to home and I completely understand how she must have felt. I remember making my boyfriend (been together 10 years) a sculpt of his character he had designed years ago and drew comics of. I had sculpted everything including his swords at 1:6 scale and painted it. 3 months of work went into it. It wasn't completely finished but I was so excited to present it to him. When I did we were with our friend and he said it was really good and he liked it. But once we got home he said he didn't like it because "his face looks like a stroke victim" but that it was OK because we can fix it together. His words exactly. I was really hurt but at least we could work on it together. Months later I kept asking him when he wanted to work on it and he kept putting it off until he told me he had no interest in working on it. The statue sat in the closet collecting dust until I got tired of being sad about it so I put it in the shed. I had an acrylic display case ready for it and everything that I ended up using for something else. I'll never forget how much he hurt me. I was so discouraged from drawing and sculpting for a long time after that.
@@vulpesinculta6022 I think he felt somewhat bad. He's just really bad at wording things. I get that he didn't like it because he knows his own character more then I do. But saying he looks like a stroke victim is pretty harsh. I know he would be really pissed off if I told him I didn't like something he made for me. In fact he has. The only difference is that I didn't tell him that it looks like crap. I said I liked it but he got upset when I didn't post about it enough. I could only imagine how discouraged he would be if I said something he made looked horrible. It would be awhile before he would want to work on anything for me. For him to say he wants to work on it then lie about it hurts. Even moreso when he asked a few days later for me to do a few sculpting things for a prop he was working on and get upset when I didn't have the drive to do it. Like it wasn't ok for me to be discouraged.
12:45 with the angel choir and 37:23 are some of my favorite parts of this one XD These and the ghost debunking videos have been so much fun to watch, your reactions are always so entertaining!! I definitely have different opinions about "picky eaters" though, haha, especially as I am a somewhat picky eater myself! I dunno man, sometimes certain flavors or too much of certain textures just make me gag. I don't mind trying new things every so often, but I also don't want to waste food, and if I don't like something, I probably won't eat it all unfortunately. Easier to just stick to the stuff I know I like! I mean, I guess someone who's picky and trying to force their friends to only eat at certain places could be an issue, but otherwise, I don't really see a problem with "picky eaters"...but I know that I'm definitely biased on that, haha
Well you have to understand where the Redditors on the cooking post are coming from. They've never had someone love them enough to cook something for them or attempt to care about them, so seeing someone so loving is probably alien to them.
By that same logic, Pete also wanted to show his love by making everyone eat his food. If we take all posts at face value, as John suggests, her dishes sound just as terrible as Pete's.
@@Lernos1 Maybe their food was as bad but that's not the point. Pete is not an asshole because his cooking sucked. Pete is an asshole because he made fun of his ex in front of both of their bosses when he could have just been quiet
@@pinsandneedles3 Pete isn't an asshole for being a bad cook, no. But he's an asshole for making someone else eat it. Even John agreed that he was an asshole by that point - before the bosses thing came up.
@@Lernos1 They are different situations though, Pete wasn't cooking to show his gf affection. He kept cooking things she didn't like and trying to force her to eat it despite her sensory issues. The last story the guy didn't even try it, he took one look at it and basically asked 'why waste your time cooking when you are so shit at it?' (despite how he wouldn't know the 'water soup' is actually 'water soup' or not because he didn't even try it).
Sometimes I wonder about the authenticity of that subreddit lol. At times they are SO OBVIOUSLY skewed that you have to wonder if people are just karma farming 😂 Love this series, John. I think I’d prob enjoy it a tad bit more if you read the entire post bf your commentary-but I’m just nitpicking. Either way it’s great 😊
I do have to say though, the one about the husband complaining about his wife’s cooking, was HORRENDOUS. She literally took the time to cook and you KNOW she worked hard because she went as far as to make him courses! She worked SO hard to make him something and put her whole heart into it and he just crushed it. All he cared about was having a “good birthday”, but I mean he’d be spending it with someone he loves anyway, plus he had his time with his buddies earlier soooo… That husband needs to reevaluate his priorities and grow a backbone when things don’t go his way
The birthday dinner really makes me upset. I was living in another city with my bf (now ex) at the time during the peak of COVID. I couldn't work and he expected me to do everything including pick up after him. I had no money, and couldn't get work. He was upset with me that I didn't automatically know to get out of bed before him to make him breakfast. He said his ex-roommate (a girl who was so in love with him she jumped into his bed naked and said he would have her or she'd move out) did a better job than me. I decided that night to make an extra special dinner, larger portions with yummy food. I told him I had a nice surprise for him when he got back. Not only did he scream at me for "lying" to him about a surprise cause he expected me to cook, he was mad I made more food because it wasn't in line with his diet. This was after we had gotten into a fight that left me with a foot sprained in 2 places (I honestly thought it was broken) and he denied me medical care for the month I was living with him. My mother had to send me money so I could uber to a clinic. He was a paramedic. I had to clean all of his garbage, cook his food, and drag all the laundry down 2 stories in the hotel all with a foot I shouldn't have been using. If not for my best friend keeping me sane, I wouldn't be here. His birthday "gift" to me during this time? I didn't have to clean for one day. Fuck that lousy insect for telling his wife her loving effort was worthless. Despicable trash. I hope she left him and his nauseating attitude.
for anyone arguing about the stupidity that was the wife cooking dinner post, here's a fun fact: one should try all the food, and one should thank the person for the food. But if you've done those two and feel that you don't want to eat tasteless food for your bday dinner, I'd stand on his side. It takes less than a minute to look up a recipe and maybe an hour to test it out before hand on some other day. Sure it was a nice gesture but id be understanding of my partner if they didn't want to eat burnt food for dinner, let alone a bday dinner. Edit: If anyone's going to say that he didnt know if she was studying recipes, then im sorry but that's still her fault. I've had to teach cooking before and people can *realize* themselves when their food is bad, you don't have to protect them. They've eaten other food, especially from their maid for a long time, so not being able to see how the food is burnt even after trying out before is just stupid.
I dated a guy that had the same philosophy of being completely rude if the gift you give them isn't what they want, the relationship ended very shortly after the first time I saw the tantrum
I don't know I would much rather get "I do not like this" than having the recipient lie to my face about liking it and throw it out after to spare my feelings. Just say you don't like, don't be rude about it of course, but be upfront about your feelings.
@@nickelakon5369 Throw it out? I assume you must be talking about food. If someone made me a gift, I would keep it forever, even if it was made poorly. How disgusting of you to throw away homemade gifts that aren't to your liking.
I LIVE for your AITA videos lately to be honest. I am so with you at the picky eater thing, and the wife who cooked for her husband for the birthday. I laughed so hard I have tears in my eyes I love it! Can't wait for more!
Sometimes when I scroll through Reddit, I wonder why I don't use the site that often. But then I see a comment section like the 5th thread, and I think "Oh yeah, that's why"
Absolutely loved watching your take on these AITAs. I really enjoyed your opinion on the one about the birthday dinner. Thanks for being so awesome, hope to see more of these soon.
Also more commentary from moi; Anytime I hear a story about a picky eater I cringe really hard because that's me. I'M the picky eater but not because i'm like ough I don't like da crusts mama. I have disordered eating from my OCD. But you think people take that seriously? No, i'm just "too picky." Like an ex-friend of mine kept pestering me to try her stupid f-ing scrambled eggs with garlic because I love both of those things, but I know for a fact combined would make me gag. And yet she took advantage of me being literally just out of bed and barely functional mentally and offered me a bite of food, and I ate it not expecting my BEST FRIEND at the time to trick me into eating something I was adamant on not liking for like a month. As a side note, if anyone ever decides they're allowed to just trick someone into eating something without the persons permission (obviously) because you think you know better? I hope stinkbugs invade your home. Plague levels of stinkbug invasion. Btw it made me sick and she was just laughing like oh well I guess we know you don't like it now. Like I knew that BEFOREHAND you insensitive prick! (All this to say I usually side with picky eaters even if it's just being picky bcuz what does it do to you if they don't wanna eat xyz? Nuthin', usually. Ppl eat what they wanna eat, leave 'em be. And if it's a sensory thing or an OCD thing or anything like that, double leave them be or I will manifest the stinkbug army.)
39:03 obviously never had a partner who loved them. I would absolutely keep the painting because that means the person cared enough to try their hardest to make something by hand for me. That is 1000% better than just buying a printed canvas art from Walmart or something
THIS!!! 💛 I don’t care what my partner’s skill level is, I always see the heart they used while making it! It seems that a lot of people siding with the husband don’t understand how much is actually put into something homemade. It’s not just if they’re good at it or not. It’s the time, the materials, and the little details they think of while making something for their person. It’s honestly one of the purest forms of adoration.
Im a picky eater and always have been, some things I just cant even stand the thought of because theres things that trigger me, ive never been diagnosed anything for it because its always been kind of a "joke" eapecially to my family that Im just weird with certain stuff. But even with things that dont trigger me, I am picky. Im a grown ass woman, and if i dont like something, Im just not going to eat it. I dont see the problem with someone being picky. I love John, but the things he says about picking eaters and the gatekeeping of salds and what can be in a salad and having to eat a salad that week to have an opinion on food, it actually bothers me. Just let people eat whatever they want. And here in Norway a salad usually has some meat, some pasta or something in addition to the salad stuff, like for example i love making taco salads.
In my case, a lot of the time it's texture or how something is made. Like, sinew, gristle, cartilage or anything like that is awful to chew and will make me gag if I try to eat it. I dislike peas or carrots on stews and whatnot because they're soft and chewy, but I love grated carrot on salads or peas on Olivier salad cause they have a completely different feel. I strongly dislike the crunch and taste of onions on salad, but am pretty fine with onions in my burrito or fajita, or caramelized on a burger, or just softened in any way I hate fried eggs both flavor and texture wise, same with boiled or poached. But, for some reason even I can't fully understand, can stomach scrambled eggs with some bacon bits. A lot of times I'll just feel something odd in my mouth, and I've surprised myself at the amount of times I've picked out the smallest piece of boiled egg, red pepper, onion, etc.
If my partner cooked a shitty meal for my birthday, it would be the type of memory I remember every year out of fondness. Not everything has to be perfect, sometimes the mistakes, the sweet, silly, and ridiculous memories are the ones worth cherishing. I would hate the food and shovel it anyway because "My partner botched my birthday dinner and it tasted awful but we ate it anyway because we love each other" would make a much better memory than if everything had been perfect.
I have extreme sympathy toward picky eaters… most people who actively avoid foods due to “picky eating” typically do so because they have a disorder called ARFID. If they’re not eating something they enjoy, eating is just not a pleasurable experience to them, and most of the time they’d rather genuinely starve for days if the only things they have access to are foods they don’t like. All picky eaters I’ve met without this disorder will usually suck it up to be nice or convenient or because they want to feel full, but people with ARFID actually feel like there’s no point in eating if it’s going to be a miserable experience for them.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting a childfree wedding. The weird thing is not telling her it wasn’t actually a childfree wedding. That’s messed up. Either it’s childfree or it’s not
There are two types of AITA posts:
- The ones with titles like "AITA for throwing my girlfriend's new puppy into a blender" that somehow manage to make OP seem like an absolute saint by the end.
- The ones with titles like "AITA for teaching my young child how to share" that somehow manage to make OP look like the most evil motherfucker on earth by the end.
More like
- "AITA for refusing to house our in-laws for Christmas after they drove 500 miles here" where it turns out that the in-laws were literally attempting to enslave OP, rob their house and kill their child
- "AITA for calling my SO silly for spitting out breakfast made by me" where it turns out OP did intentionally throw their SO's new puppy, their phone, wallet and their newborn child into a blender and doesn't understand what's the big deal.
More like the devil itself for the second one
nah, I just think everyone judges from their political views alot, and it feels like that because people have extreme opinions online. I often disagree with the general consensus in moderate AITA cases (which there's alot of). You see women are often slightly favored in AITA threads is one small example of this.
PUPPY INTO A BLENDER. WHAT 😭😭🤣🤣
True!! 😂
The story of the kid being hosed and having a conversation with him is damn funny!😂😂
How do you deal with cotton mouth? I hate it!
I absolutely love this it sounds like a scene from an artsy comedy.
John's reactions to all these are great. "Hold me back chat! Hold me back!" Had me laughing. Keep 'em coming John!
The audacity. That would be an outrageous request even if his parents hadn't died. The fact that they did makes this off-the-charts insane.
While I normally don't use this joke, those two DEFINITELY perpetuate the trope of stupid useless lesbians.

@@Demonic_Culture_Nut how are you typing out the thorn consonant
*ESH.*
I can't believe how many people agreed with him! She put in all that time and effort to do something nice and he was a total jerk about it!

Even if I've seen these posts already, it's so fun hearing them again with John's snark. Judging strangers really is a fun group activity
I love the point John makes that there's always _so much more_ to the story than we're given. Where does he keeps his VODS? I’ve wanted to watch them but I haven’t been able to find them!
@Ivory I would reckon they're on his Twitch channel
I also hate tomatoes but like ketchup. I think they just water down and dull the flavor of food besides feeling slimy
Luckily I have a brother within a year from my age so I wasn't too lonely growing up.
bayzed take
"How dare you go into labor early" is one of the sillier things I've heard
The hose situation was such a perfect way to end off 🤣 definitely love this series!
I never knew I needed John to read AITA posts. His sassy attitude and commentary makes them 100% better. Keep making them!!!
"Treat others the way you want to be treated."
How would YOU like to be treated?
listening to your opinion on anything, whether it be AITA posts, youtubers houses, or video games, is always entertaining and makes even the worst of days 100x better. keep it up john!
edit: 100x better because that hose post had me in tears
@@shadamyandsonamylover from the post: "she...... told me at least i could've tried it"
he did not try it then. i agree the soup line seems contradictory, but i think it was a case of him just imagining what it would taste like and not what it actually was. because the wife's line directly says he did not try any of the food.
"AND rejected his idea for his birthday dinner. "
bruh, she just wanted to make a nice home meal for him and give something to him that she personally made. why twist it so maliciously?
and based on his words, it doesnt seem like he had any particular idea for any specific restaurant in mind.
"But he ALSO thanked her for her effort!!"
that he did, but then proceeded to say she shouldnt bother cuz her cooking sucks.
so yeah, no wonder she got upset.
its not about the fact he didnt want to eat it (tbf he shouldve at least tried). its about the response he gave.
@@parvonik1359 I agree his response wasn’t good. But he says she wanted him to try “everything” which indicates that he did eat some and just not all. You guys are bad faithing the husband hard here.
@@shadamyandsonamylover even if he tried some, it doesnt matter. one food tasting bad does not indicate another tastes bad too. argument stands - he shouldve tasted them all.

im having more trouble with those reddit comments actually.
I love this content. Love how into it you get John and how passionate you can get about these. Also it's hilarious to see your reactions to some of the more outrageous things. Hope this keeps up, it's gold!
I'm glad John is branching out with his content. He seems happier.
on the Birthday dinner story & specifically the painting comment- i made my bf a "shitty" painting of his dog for christmas one year and he still proudly hangs it next to the professional portrait of his dog his cousin happened to get him the same year (we didnt communicate- pure coincidence 😅). he knows i put a lot of thought & effort into it and that i tried something i normally wouldn't have (painting a dog) just to surprise him & didnt have to see all the practice sketches i made to appreciate the still pretty goofy looking result. ITS. THE. THOUGHT. THAT. COUNTS.
its great to see you branch out into more variety content! these aita threads and ghost debunking videos have been a joy to watch :]
That last AITA post is a rare unicorn.
That was so stupidly wholesome and just cute. Admittedly, I would be a little worried about the guy being a creep if I was the kid's parents, but after seeing his side of the story it legit just made me smile.
"YOU HAVE THUMBS AND KEYS" - John Wolfe 2023
Okay, with the picky eater one, I'm glad John is more sympathetic to ones with sensory issues lol. I'm autistic/ADHD and some things I genuinely cannot or do not want to try and eat because if it smells off or looks weird, I cannot try to force it into my mouth because I know I won't tolerate it (and sometimes I'm proven wrong! I will attempt different foods when I'm ready to try!). And yes, I still get the crust off my bread when eating it, I cut it off myself though xD
Also, the boss laughing at the ex-husband is hilarious, 10/10
Lmfao, that lesbian couple from story 3 is absolutely hilarious! 😂
I knew stupid people have a tendency to create problems/drama out of thin air, but this far surpasses all I've ever heard! 🤦♂️
I loved when OP said: "I'm a plan person!". The F%ck you're not! you're a toddler! 🤣
You don't make plans, you fully depend on your girlfriend to make one instead! 😂
And if she doesn't tell you what to do, you literally just sit around and do nothing like a little kid waiting in the car while mommy/daddy goes shopping for groceries!
Be your own person for a change, girl! 🙃
It's so comically ironic how OP can't/doesnt want to think nor act on her own, meanwhile the person she trusts to plan her life for he is like: "nah, we don't need to coordinate with our friends, we'll just show up while everyone's leaving with their families and ask them if they wanna hang out with us a bit, surely they'll all say yes!" 🥴
Absolute gold! 😂
Yep, it's like those two ladies share one braincell in total and they left it at home that day.
Just when I thought these AITA videos couldn't get any better....John portrays a mustache twirling villain
The incel responses to the fifth one made my blood boil. Imagine being that entitled. The last one gave me a good laugh, though. 😂
Boo! You're a ghost! Love your yt name 🎉

Oh, THAT'S what that smell is, it's the big whopping stench of an immature, unwashed manchild who still lives with his long-suffering mother.
the graduation ceremony one has the same energy as that episode of Community where Abed sits in the waiting room for 26 hours and then says he was livid the entire time
I TOTALLY get having a completely child free events, regardless of familial connections, so i was kinda on her side, i cant handle being around kids, they're too much. But then the ending?! Her reasoning?! AN ASTRONOMICALLY BIG AH
Yeah I was fine with her at first but what a twist!
Yeah, it's the kind of Reddit post that can remind people to take breaks from social media.
@@starlightlilly7203 I'm glad it's the ex as of now. You deserve to be appreciated. 😊
"They're men aren't they" absolutely floored me 😂
I cannot describe in words the excitement I feel when you post another one of these.
The hose story is the best thing I've heard in a long while. Also, love this content you're posting.
5:18 Why would you change the name of an already estabished business and confuse your customers into thinking you closed down? This is really dumb
Forget Blue Pill or Red Pill, The Hose would be my moral dilemma standard from now on.
These would be more interesting if everyone on Reddit didn’t lie about everything. I can’t get emotionally invested in literally anything they say
Your first mistake was taking these any more seriously than just entertainment.
Yeah as the above commenter said, they’re fun to read cause they’re entertaining. I just treat them as “what if” situations, nothing more.
i mean that just the internet in general, redditors dont want to get doxed so you just read with a grain of salt
"They're men aren't they?" Nailed it.
If we switched the genders we would have femcels and white knights defending the lady.
:( just be glad you're no with him anymore, you can do much better.
@@faithpearlgenied-a5517 she didn't say it was an ex.
I appreciate the kind words regardless. Thank you
@@vulpesinculta6022 I think he felt somewhat bad.

Those guys would probably get a drawing their 5 year old made and be like "this sucks" and throw it in the garbage
Hi John! I use your videos to get more work done. Thank you for uploading again!
Yay, please do more of these!Great narration plus your sense of humor, everything is just perfect.

I do have to say though, the one about the husband complaining about his wife’s cooking, was HORRENDOUS. She literally took the time to cook and you KNOW she worked hard because she went as far as to make him courses! She worked SO hard to make him something and put her whole heart into it and he just crushed it. "they're men, aren't they" has me dying 💀
I needed this! Thank you, John! 💜
I loved how mad he got at the girlfriend-car one, that was hilarious.
Loving the variety in videos recently!
I didn't know how much I needed this. Haven't even started watching the video but I know this is perfect John Wolfe material
I dated a guy that had the same philosophy of being completely rude if the gift you give them isn't what they want, the relationship ended very shortly after the first time I saw the tantrum
I don't know
I would much rather get "I do not like this" than having the recipient lie to my face about liking it and throw it out after to spare my feelings.
Also more commentary from moi;
Anytime I hear a story about a picky eater I cringe really hard because that's me.
And if it's a sensory thing or an OCD thing or anything like that, double leave them be or I will manifest the stinkbug army.)
genuinely love these please keep doing them its so funny to see your reaction to these because its always so warranted
Just watched what I believe are all of your AITA videos and these are great. There should be more of these regularly!
I strongly dislike the crunch and taste of onions on salad, but am pretty fine with onions in my burrito or fajita, or caramelized on a burger, or just softened in any way
I hate fried eggs both flavor and texture wise, same with boiled or poached.
Spoken like someone who's had experience with any type of normal relationship with other humans before (unlike the Reddit commenters?); agreed.
Maybe I'm hormonal or something, but I kind of teared up with the last one, that's so fucking funny and cute
The replies on the birthday story shocked me at first, but then I remembered that Redditors are kissless virgins, so it makes sense.
"Picky" eating is also an autistic/neurodivergent trait
There’s nothing wrong with wanting a childfree wedding. The weird thing is not telling her it wasn’t actually a childfree wedding. That’s messed up. Either it’s childfree or it’s not
As much as I love the horror related content these videos are great.
I love these videos, John. So needed after a long day 😂 AITA thread feels like some weird version of the stages of grief
