    The best post about this forum is how there would be titles like "AITA for poisoning my whole family" and it's the most reasonable story that justifies everything, but then you'd see "AITA for not paying for my roommates vacation" and the poster is the most psychotic poster you've ever seen.

      My mom isn't an artist, she's an accountant and not a realtor but her aunt got her sell some property.
      The reason I know this is because I remember my mom was stressed trying to find a buyer because said aunt would not sell it for less.
      Mom did succeed but she did that for free.

    RE: the roommate from hell story with the black mold
    I've lived in scenarios like that, with people who are, to be frank, too dumb for their own good. So I can definitely see this being real. Also, in my experience, water heater malfunctions/repairs are typically handled by the landlord as part of the contract, since it's their property (especially in the case of apartments), unless it was caused by the tennant.

    AHole boss is 100% fantasizing about Nadine. That's the only reason I can think of that he doesn't want to feel emasculated by her seeing him eating alone at a sport's bar. And also the only reason I can think of that he'd suspect his wife might be upset by his mere presence around another woman in his off hours.
    Dude totally abused his position of power and there's nothing Nadine probably feels she can do since he's the boss's son. And this is why nepotism and family company's suck. Because the people they abuse have no where to really go to deal with the issue.

    Definitely going to watch the full VODs of this later. John has the perfect demeanor for this kind of content.
    Personal story: I went to my neighbours' daughter's wedding when I was a similar age to the OP in the first story. My neighbours asked me if I could take a few videos to show to one of their parents, as they were too sick and frail to attend.
    We didn't talk about money at all. I enjoy working with cameras so I got the bride's walk, the vows, the kiss, the joining of the in-laws' hands, the reception entrance, the toasts, the first dance, the father-daughter dance, and short videos of people enjoying themselves. I did what, really, was a professional videography job.
    When I handed the camera back the next day, my neighbours gave me $150. I tried to refuse because I enjoyed myself but they told me that I should always value my time and skills and that what they were giving was the minimum acceptable reward. They'd planned to give me $50 but, because I went all out, they added $100. They also made sponge cake for my parents and I.

I told them I’m moving out, and was met with a long text message about how I was destroying their chance to save up for top removal surgery for one of them. While I won't judge people for ordering in, since sometimes cooking can be very hard for people, but it hardly makes sense that they are buying expensive figurines... when they are saving for a surgery... it's their fault for being irresponsible with their money and not yours for leaving. Not that this is always the case or the reason for any threads in the video, but some of it genuinely is just people in abusive relationships (with their partners, family, friends, whoever) who are manipulated into thinking every action they make is the wrong one. And I think some people look to Reddit, or the Internet in general, to get a second, third, forth, hundredth opinion outside of the manipulation because they don't have anywhere else to speak about this anonymously.

      I think it might be one of two options:
      1. They want internet points. To be told they are a good person, how bad the other people are, words of sympathy, etc. Whenever these stories are massively altered or completely fake doesn't matter, the goal is the same - validation and attention.
      2. Some people got put down so badly in life that they can't recognize when they did nothing wrong. I am an example of someone like that. For many, many years I blamed myself for a lot of things which weren't my fault. Including an emotional state of a grown ass adult as a teenager... Living in a toxic environment messes with your head. Listing all possibilities would take all day. @Andy made a good point about manipulation, for example.

    The landlord is required to fix the water heater where I'm from. Hot water is considered part of habitability and anything to do with the house's habitability is covered by the landlord unless otherwise stated in the lease. (Basically if it comes with the house and will be left when you leave, it's the landlord's job to fix it.)
    Also people are weirdly just unhinged about black mold. There was some growing on the ceiling of the bathroom in my college dorm and I told the RA who told the custodians. The custodians then kept asking 'where?'. The big black patch on the ceiling right above the showers. WTF do you mean where?! But for weeks they pretended not to know what black mold we were talking about and just kept wiping down the shower stalls with cleaning supplies (not even how you take care of black mold). I stopped using that shower, obviously and just went up to the next floor. Other girls kept using it even though I kept telling them what a health hazard that was - a bunch of them were chronically sick, probably because of that. Finally I took pictures and sent them to the dean and it was taken care of the next day by professionals wearing actual gear and the bathroom was quarantined until they were sure it wasn't coming back.

    I'd like to throw out there that in cases like the 2nd one, sometimes there are people who are "good" like that. They are people pleasers. They put up with a lot out of fear of loss of friendship or being kicked out. I've seen people that put up with way too much. My partner is the same way, and it's upsetting how badly he's been treated. Sure, it could absolutely be fake, but that's a very real situation.

    • @LovelyComplex14
      @LovelyComplex14 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's true. As a people pleaser myself I've been in some fucked up living situations to where I was paying most of the rent, bills, and groceries in an apartment of 5 people, 6 cats, and a dog. And literally no one cleaned. Super traumatic. So I definitely believe that roommate story. People can be horrible

    I can guess why husband's evicted family was evicted. The place was probably left uninhabitable by what sounds like a hoard - and they managed to make this nasty hoard in just a week. Imagine what a house they lived in for months would look like. Also wife's mom is the fuckin' boss. Taking care of her and cleaning up the mess.

    I didn't know I wanted John to read AITA so bad till now lol
    2nd story: (as far as I've ever dealt with apartment complexes is as follows)
    Landlords have to fix all damage to their property but will not pay for the damage to the tenant property. That's what should be in leasing contracts say they are responsible for repairs to the property if faulty appliances and so on. It's kinda illegal, if in contract that they are responsible for their property fixes, that an apartment complex doesn't fix the water heater and flooding to their own property and also make you pay for it. When it's their property that caused the issue, they must pay and fix. They wouldn't pay for damage to your stuff as that's what renters insurance is for. And they wouldn't pay if you did something to break the property causing the heater to break and flooding. You would then pay.

      i think this guy hit the nail on the head with his theory. I'd totally bet that she avoided him for so long that he'd just say "screw it" and give her the photos because being paid became more of a hassle than it was worth. Make him jump through enough hoops so he just relents and goes "Fine, just take the damn photos"
      Good on the guy for sticking to his guns and deleting them instead

    • @eyesofthecervino3366
      @eyesofthecervino3366 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wonder if he could've gotten his money if he'd tried going to extended family first. "Hey, I was promised $50 for these pictures, but now she's avoiding me, and I think she maybe doesn't have the cash and is embarrassed to admit it. Do you think you'd be willing to cover the cost, and then maybe you can get these to her?" It's a bit shameless, but on the other hand if they're not willing to shell out for her pics, either, then at least they'll have a harder time bullying him when she comes to rope them into the drama on her side.

    About the engaged roommates, I've also got a pretty wonderful landlord who gave us a very, very thorough rundown of what we were responsible for and what they're responsible for. They've got responsibility for a lot of very big and serious things, and I'm very sure it's in our lease that something like the water heater would be covered by them too!
    Sometimes, just barely, landlords are at least a touch charitable to tenants via binding leases.

    I'm actually glad you decided to make a TH-cam video of this! I watched the VOD a while back and towards the end you came across one of the top posts that was like "AITA for despising my disabled little sister" or something similar. I was kinda hoping you'd read it, cuz while it obviously sounds horrible and like an automatic YTA rank, there was a lot to dig into with it. From what I can recall, OP was basically forced to give up her entire life to act as a 3rd parent to her younger sister, unable to do after school activities or be with friends or anything that most kids could do growing up. Commenters helped her realize what she was actually feeling was anger and hatred for her parents that was being incorrectly directed towards her sister.

    For the second one- as a student ive had to live in a bunch of different apartment buildings, and a lot of them have it in the renters contract that the building owner is responsible for maintenance and such as long as the damages weren't caused by me; so if the water heater blew up and it wasn't their fault, I could see the landlord paying for the fix. HOWEVER, that would also mean that the landlord would be calling inspectors about the black mold; maybe the op couldn't contact them because they weren't on the lease and the friend wasn't doing it for whatever reason?
    I've lived in a couple apartments where there ended up being water damage to my unit from another unit and although it was something I was required to report, it was ultimately the landlord's duty to get it fixed
