I did this in highschool back in the 90s. Mowing lawns, pulling weeds, raking yards. Every bit of money I made went straight into my BMX. I was smiling while watching this episode.😊
Same thing! I’m actually currently doing that right now. I’m working on a plan with my neighbor. He pays me and then every bit of my money goes into the bank account and I’m planning on buying a new mountain bike and a pick up truck.!
That's how you raise a good kid and not a spoiled brat. Hats off to you guys. You have a great son and he knows the value of an honest days work. He'll go places.
Parents should not make their children the recipients of unearned favors. This will lead them to feel that they are entitled to the best of everything, and they will not learn to appreciate the value of labor.
I live across the street from a very large trail system right in the middle of my city that the city does not maintain. They will remove downed trees from time to time but no trail maintenance. So I decided to take it upon myself and probably spent upwards of 80 hours raking and leaf blowing and sawing trees that had fallen across the trails (that were small enough to cut with a handsaw) and boy would I have loved to have someone like Seth offer me bike parts for all the hard work and effort. But honestly, all the thank yous and appreciation from all the hikers, bikers and dog walkers made it worthwhile. Not to mention they were far far better to ride and safer too. I'm going to guess there's probably 20 to 30 km of trails. I didn't get to do them all but most of them... Even had a few kind people appreciate my work to the point they decided to help.
That's what makes a community leader, bro. A non profit conservancy group is only a few steps away and will be more effective with similar work you're already doing
same ..city spend millions on trails here ..but made a mess ,,only thing they got right was ..Signs ,,we got 5 sign wrong side of trail telling mountain bikers left up right down .steep paved hill trying to cause a head on crash ..City not worries about lawsuit from it cause crown corrupt as they get ,Plus very sick in the head .Im trying to fix the mess but there trying to kill me ..cause this place is a overweight pig farm..back bacon eh.
Sounds like you need to start up a trail stewards group. Get the city's blessing and they could help support you with tools and such. Look around and see how others do it. Good luck and have fun!
Seems like he got paid pretty well per hour. My parents did this with a cheap BMX in the 80s. They paid for part of it, then they made a chart with a dollar in each box that I owed. Everytime I did a job that paid $1, I crossed out one box. It took me awhile and it was a crappy bike, but I was still excited about it.
My daughter wanted to upgrade her bike. I did a deal with her that I’d get her the parts and she’d build the bike. She put in a lot of effort, learned a ton of stuff, and not only appreciates her bike but knows how to maintain it. Super proud dad
Hell yeah, this is awesome! Even better than just giving it to him. It's kinda how I got my first adult, brand new bike. I had no money and my dad scored a good gig of cleaning brand new houses after construction. It was hard work because the houses were extremely filthy, but after two weeks I got a bike that eventually got me into proper riding!
I didn't expect a Perkins Bros x Berm Peak crossover; but I guess it makes sense that two big, western NC YT creators would end up running into each other.
Sick vid, but is no one gonna talk about how generous this guy is? That is a serious bike, traded for an old one and a days work. Seth is anyones dream uncle.
Thanks for building with us! Love to see the Perkins builder brothers *father /son, on berm peakl. Next video should have Erik building a Seth sweet wooden feature!
This all of a sudden hit me in the feels because a friend of mine didn't know he had a heart condition and passed away very young. I'm very glad for everyone who is a part of his life that he let them know there was a problem..
My cousin's son died with the same heart condition playing basketball at my old high school. I am glad this kid knew enough to tell his parents about it.
Basically all palpitations Are caused by Stress or anxiety. Especially ones at a younger age. But if unsure get an ecg done. I also get some palpitations when going on stage, doc said it’s totally normal.
So, I rode at Berm Park for the first time in mid July. And this friendly dude volunteered to let me follow him into Click Bait. We ended up talking for a good bit and he gave me really good advice on what trails to ride that day. He ended up being in my TH-cam video and by watching Seth's video tonight, I realize that it was Erik Perkins. Not only does he have a million subscribers on TH-cam, he freaking shreds! Small world.
The love in that kids' eyes when he looks at his Dad made me want to call my Old Man. The respect and work ethic that the kid showed towards Seth gave me a whole lot of respect to the young man. After a hard days labor (with two adults yankin his chain), he still shredded. This was a really cool video. Thank you.
Best video in a long time. That being said Seth produces great videos all the time!!! This just is a Gen X heart warmer. I remember my grandfather making me work for everything!!! At 47 I appreciate every minute of it. Wish I could go back most days. Really touched a good place with this video. Thanks Seth!!!
This is such an awesome video Seth, love seeing Eric (Perkins Builders) collab and giving Chase an opportunity to shine on TH-cam + new bike thanks for the rain :-)
Cool, I used to watch Perkins brothers building videos, good to see they are into mountain biking and doing well. Seem like a really good family and his son is a good worker, great video as usual!
Love this episode. When I was 12-13 I spent 2 months over the summer working with my Grandfather helping him build their house, to get me a 1999 Specialized Rockhopper Full Squish. Yes I am old :) I still have the bike to this day and ride it, despite the insane geometry compared to new bikes! Kid's lucky! 1 day of work for a whole ass bike!!!
I think this is an awesome video and I think that Seth tried to address it a few times that he knew that the value of the bike was way more than the value of the work that Chase was doing And a lot of people commented that is set unrealistic expectations of work. That wasn't the point of this video at all and I think that they were hung up on that one point so much they couldn't enjoy the video for what it was. Thank you Seth for doing the things that you do and I appreciate seeing how many people actually got what you were doing with this video. Keep living your best lives out there! 😁🐙🌻🐾
Great video. Sorry to hear about the heart condition. My son had SVT and it really put a damper on things for a while. Once he was old enough and ready, his electrophysiologist did the ablation surgery and took care of it. If it's an option, don't wait. It's surprising how easy it is. Great job working for he bike! Now he needs a continuing education on keeping it tuned it up!
Thats what his condition sounded like to me as well. I had to get an ablation done for SVT last year and it was very easy and really helped me enjoy mountain biking much more.
I hate to hear of his heart condition. My son went through this as a thirteen year old. It can be really hard to have to stop something you are passionate about. This too shall pass. You and his dad gave him something to work for and also a lifetime of something he can love. Great job.
I started mountain biking last year, and a few day ago, i went for my 3rd ride. I was always a road biker, but i still managed to get rid of the fear of the trails quickly, so now the trail was just fun, only scary going up😃
Good for you Seth. Builds character and discipline. I cut grass and shoveled snow as a teen to earn cash. When you work to earn something, you appreciate and respect it more. You also take better care of it.
That's a very good way of prompting Chase to take care of that bike without telling him. The work he did to have that bike makes it more valuable to him. Good job. Props to Seth and Erik for showing Chase one of the essential traits which can be useful later in life. "Hard work forever pays, Chase."
I love how much you use the word haggard… And I also thoroughly enjoy seeing you give people parts that I’ve already picked for my bike… The green handlebar grips and the green pedals have already gotten numerous compliments… Even from the rude guys at the local bike shop. I need to make it down there.
I relate to Chase with the heart condition. Swimmer why whole life, cycling gave me a way to push myself and know when to soft pedal and enjoy the descent / scenery. Congrats on the new bike. I think I'll go for a ride soon.
Very cool at every level! Chase is an outstanding young man and he will clearly appreciate having the bike. He is clearly going to be a force in the MTB community, you and his father, Eric did that! I'm sure Chase would be up for coming back and doing more work (learning) how to do a bike rebuild.
This is a great angle on your usual content, fantastic. Let's celebrate the bike as the positive thing it is in families and friendships. Happy new year to you and yours.
Hell yeah! I earned money by mowing lawns with my little brother starting in 4th grade and we made enough to buy our own bikes. Really taught us the value of hard work.
When I was 16, I worked for my great-grandma all season to earn money for a bike. I mowed her lawn, trimmed trees, turned on irrigation, swept up the driveway, and other outdoor chores all around the house. I was there every week. When my birthday rolled around, she paid for the bike and put the money towards college. I remember spending time with her and getting to know her better. She helped teach me how to work hard and I put thousands of miles on that bike.
Seth you’ve got a trip in on Monday and I’m crossing my fingers that it’s Chicago! Include Chicago as a part of your toughest cities to bike in series. Plus we’ve got Big Marsh! Chicago’s pump track! See you soon!!
ure a good guy Seth , love watching these videos , that kids gonna have loads more fun riding now on that new bike ! cant wait to see the refresh on that older norco though 👌🏻🤘🏻
Kid got to learn how to maintain/build proper trails ! And gets a new bike in return. WIN WIN! 🏆 🤙 praying you heal kid. Finally went in cause my heart was acting weird. So maybe this is a sign for the youngsters. You can have heart problems and be PERFECTLY HEALTHY!
work for couple hours and get a bike like that.... in 86 i was 13 and worked the entire summer to buy a all withe gt pro performer with 6 spoke mags , rear frame stands and a handler seat !!

I’ll fly over from europe to work on your trails 😅 I can even work for a whole week for a bike! Anyway great video Seth, teaching the kid to work for what he wants❤
This is so awesome thank you we preached the same thing with Bmx and since I race cross country as well Cycling is the only sport you can actually get out and share with your kids if it’s a daily ride or a USA Cycling event
Every person who owns the status runs it in the high position. The bottom bracket is already so low you get 1 million pedal strikes without running in the high positions. What bike you get?
A GT Dyno?
same
@hanselgretel8563 one day of work come on that's not earning jack squat
Same thing! I’m actually currently doing that right now. I’m working on a plan with my neighbor. He pays me and then every bit of my money goes into the bank account and I’m planning on buying a new mountain bike and a pick up truck.!
As a 3rd worlder who spend his childhood in Russia I envy you guys. We were forced to do all that for free by our families and school officials🥲
Seth if you wanna fly out a teenager from the UK to work for a bike, i'm here🤷♂
Same
Sameee
real where is he btw?
Haha now I hope he does 🤘🏽

Feature more dads being positive influences on their kids, Seth. This is so important to our culture. Another great video. A+
That's how you raise a good kid and not a spoiled brat. Hats off to you guys. You have a great son and he knows the value of an honest days work. He'll go places.
He still got the better end of the deal, and by a super sizeable margin.
Parents should not make their children the recipients of unearned favors. This will lead them to feel that they are entitled to the best of everything, and they will not learn to appreciate the value of labor.
Yeah, we he enters the workforce and demands a few thousand per day at McDonald's he will be loved.
2 hours of work for a $2000+ bike does not teach the value of hard work. It teaches the value of having a dad who’s friends with Seth.

so cool to see a couple dads helping out a young man! this is what the world needs more of!!! happy new year yo!!
Good kids have great parents, great kids have exellent parents, in both cases kids MUST be rewarded, even if is through working

I worked at a camp from 8am-3mp every week for 7 weeks this summer to get my enduro. Always feels good to work for something that you deserve

For that bike! I'd say a 2 week summer camp of trail maintenance and bike repair classes for a bike like that! You're a prince, Seth!❤✌️🚴♀️
Bro, this kind of content… this is the best bike channel on TH-cam. Love it!!
Great video. Sorry to hear about the heart condition. My son had SVT and it really put a damper on things for a while. All these techniques we did as a kid when building dirt jumps many moons ago I didn’t know they had technical names lol
I love this story, work for what you love to do! Great Job Seth and Eric! Teaching the young studs to work for what you love.
As a dad about to take his son out for a ride today, this is right kind of inspiration!!
Berm Peak and Perkins Builder Brothers. Two of my favorite channels!
Seems like a very well deserved opportunity for this young man!
Great job!
Really Great episode Seth, I love seeing a dad and his son enjoying the trails together.
I hate to hear of his heart condition. My son went through this as a thirteen year old. It can be really hard to have to stop something you are passionate about. This too shall pass. You and his dad gave him something to work for and also a lifetime of something he can love. Great job.
17:40 Seth’s got the cobweb in his helmet 😂
Figures. That's hilarious. Good catch.
Now I'm imagining Chase sweeping the trail and ducking under the spiderweb like 🙄😏.... 😂🤣
This is so awesome Seth, absolutely love seeing you be a great influence on kids!
Seth is a awesome person!! So cool what ya did for chase. And he worked for it with no complaining. Work hard & get nice things💯
You should build a soft tail with only rear suspension
a hard front?
That sounds like a pretty dumb idea. I love it!
I started mountain biking last year, and a few day ago, i went for my 3rd ride. I was always a road biker, but i still managed to get rid of the fear of the trails quickly, so now the trail was just fun, only scary going up😃
Do you need an expensive bike or is any mountain bike gonna do !?
Keep at it 🤘🏽
Im a roadie, trust me, you can juggle both. Road is very disciplined.
MTB is technic/fun. I love them both
I do a bunch of trails and singletrack on a cyclocross bike. Underbiking is fun. Slow on the descents. But loads of fun.
Good for you Seth. Builds character and discipline. I cut grass and shoveled snow as a teen to earn cash. When you work to earn something, you appreciate and respect it more. You also take better care of it.

I like riding bike with my kiddo as well. He is currently 8yrs and rocking 24´´ full (Norco Fluid) :) Those days at the mountains are priceless.
What a surprise, to see Erik and Chase on a Seth video! Two of my favorite channels.
My son, my riding partner, and my best buddy ever is now 22 and off to the Army in a couple of months, so this video really hit home. Thank you!
Old school way of life. Work for what you want. Although the kid got the better end of the deal for sure.
This is a great angle on your usual content, fantastic. Let's celebrate the bike as the positive thing it is in families and friendships. Happy new year to you and yours.
I was smiling so much when you said "he's gonna want it in the low position"! This kid is going to make so many memories on that bike!
I don’t ride, but love all Seth’s videos. Really enjoying the city rides… but this one is the best, wholesome and fun.
Perkins bros construction and berm peak collaboration??? I think we need this
The Status bikes are such great value! What a great kid, straight A student and all. He deserves it and all the blingy extras.
Thanks a lot, Seth. You´re such an inspiration. Cheers from Mexico!
This is awesome. Great job sir. Thanks for sharing this with us. Lucky kid.
Yoooo let’s go chase. That’s sick🎉 congrats on the new bike🎉🎉🎉
Hell yeah! I earned money by mowing lawns with my little brother starting in 4th grade and we made enough to buy our own bikes. Really taught us the value of hard work.

I never had a good bike when I was a kid, however I am happy for Chase..
Sweet ride young fella!
Seth you’ve got a trip in on Monday and I’m crossing my fingers that it’s Chicago!
Include Chicago as a part of your toughest cities to bike in series.
Plus we’ve got Big Marsh! Chicago’s pump track!
See you soon!!
This video had me smiling the whole time. The Perkins crossover was just a bonus on top!
Nothing in life is free. My kids have heard me say it a million times. Great work Dads.
Seth showing he is both a great guy and Dadding HARD 🤣. Glad to see your nose is doing better and Berm Peak is being maintained 😁
Gotta love seeing Seth out here giving back to the community!
ure a good guy Seth , love watching these videos , that kids gonna have loads more fun riding now on that new bike ! cant wait to see the refresh on that older norco though 👌🏻🤘🏻
Perkins Builder Brothers is a great watch. Really cool that you know eachother.
Awesome kid! Amazing dad and great on you Seth for helping them both out! Nothing feels better then putting in some sweat equity for something.
I can sit down and define a good day by seeing a new Seth video!😊
work for couple hours and get a bike like that.... in 86 i was 13 and worked the entire summer to buy a all withe gt pro performer with 6 spoke mags , rear frame stands and a handler seat !!
I mean, you're giving him unrealistic expectations of work wages, working an afternoon for a multi thousand dollar bike lol
Get yourselr a wide flat shovel with no edges or cutouts for better packing or use a curved flat spade for packing. The ones with cutouts and edges make it alot harder trying to keep things flat
That old green bike was fine.... It just needed an externally routed dropper which is very cheap.
first time seeing a status 2 since its launch!
GREAT, GREAT VIDEO SETH, I THINK THAT EVEN THOUGH ONE GIVES THINGS TO THE CHILDREN, WHEN THEY WORK TO ACHIEVE IT MAKES THEM APPRECIATE THINGS MORE AND NOT FEEL THAT THEY ONLY DESERVE IT. GREETINGS FROM SINALOA MEXICO
Seth is the best! That's an awesome build! Chase is stoked!
I enjoyed working in a bike & ski shop as a teen in 1996 it was a break from the landscaping job.
Bikes were expensive back then too 😂
Good on you Seth, that kid did well and will have happy days on his new bike.
The dad sipping coffee saying "...but he hasn't racked a lot of dirt recently" gave huge dad energy.
A days labor for a $3000 bike? That's quite a killer deal, it's super awesome that Seth and his dad were able to do this for him!
Every person who owns the status runs it in the high position. The bottom bracket is already so low you get 1 million pedal strikes without running in the high positions. And even then you still get 800k pedal strikes 😂
I’d agree with the assumption, but once you ride it for a bit you figure that out. Sick bike, I know he will love it just as I love mine.
Good to see the Perkins channel shown on other cannels! Chase is a good young man!
Dad looked like he was enjoying watching his kid work!
Nothing but love for this channel, beautiful humans
Wow I watch most of your videos and I've never seen that last part of the trail (stone mountain part) press on in the good work sir 💪👍
For a newbie that dude was packing dirt like a HERO 💪⚡
Why are you warming my heart so much, like that? Peak wholesome.
Your channel is a source of inspiration and enjoyment. Keep it up, you're doing a great job!😱🏆🪝
4:37 this is every guy ever
That's a lucky kid, gets a good lesson that hard work pays off and gets an awesome bike, preying for his heart
That was great Seth. I think he appreciates that bike so much more working for it.
Seth Perkins of Perkins Bros!! Awesome collab. Nice, Seth.
Love it! Shouldve have had him put the bike together too!
That car vacuum and sealant deal at the end was the cherry on top 😂
Woah, did not expect a Perkins crossover episode. Awesome 👍
Dork disks are great, you should keep it.
