It's crazy how much is being constructed, added, and improved every single year. In most other cities the metro systems stagnate for years and new lines take ages to finish. The Seoul metro is truly worthy for a city of 25 million.

But the big problem in Korea is that most people think it's not a city unless there's a subway station nearby. This is a very bad problem. The reason why this is unfair is that the subway system in Korea is owned by the state, so subway construction requires government approval. But where I live in Pocheon, there is no subway. Even though it's a city And even it is included in the Seoul metropolitan area. Additionally, Pocheon City's subway construction project was canceled. So, Pocheon is the most underdeveloped area in Gyeonggi -do.
I didn't see it, but the subway will be built in 2029. However, the original plan was for the subway to be available in 2027.

Fantastic video! Thanks so much for the work. For those wondering, there are quite a few other lines planned. I guess they're not being included here because they are not confirmed yet, but here is a further breakdown:
    - Wirye Line, currently under construction in South East Seoul. Will open in 2025 and is part of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway, but is actually a tramway (hence why it was probably not included)
    - Sillim Line is expected to be extended one station North to connect with the Seobu Line in Yeouido. There are also plans for a separate branch to the South West called the Nangok Branch Line
    - Line 3 will be extended in the South East to connect with Line 5 in the city of Hanam
    - Line 8 is expected to be expended further to the North East, eventually to either Line 4 (probably) or even Line 1 in Uijeongbu (less likely). There are also plans to extend Line 8 further to the South to Pangyo
    - Line 9 trains will start track sharing with AREX on limited service to Incheon Airport, starting around 2027
    - There are proposals for the Shinbundang Line to be expended farther to the North West past Yongsan Station, up to Samsong Station on Line 3
    - Incheon Line 2 will be extended to the North, with a new branch connecting with Incheon Line 1, and eventually with Gimpo Goldline and even crossing the Han River
    - The Sinansan Line is also expected to have a second phase, ultimately extending the Line with Yeouido to Seoul Station
    - The Seobu Line will in the future probably extend further to the North East to the city of Goyang. A further expansion by 1 station to the middle of SNU Campus is also in consideration
    - A new line between Daejang (GTX D) and Hongdae (Line 2, AREX) has also been approved
    - Line 5 will be further extended to the West, on an alignment close to that of the Gimpo Goldline
    - The Gyeongbukhoengdan Line is an LRT line proposed in Seoul, which would form roughly a semi-circle in the North part of the city
    - The Mokdong Line is an LRT line proposed in Seoul, in the South-West of the city
    - The Myeonmok Line is an LRT line proposed in Seoul, in the North-East of the city
    - The Ui LRT is proposed to be extended by a new branch connecting with Banhak Station on Line 1
    - GTX D will very likely become a longer line, probably being somewhat parallel to Line 9 in the South part of the city
    - GTX E and F are also in planning, with the alignment expected to be announced soon
The proposals above have fairly good chances of being built, but there are many other proposals which are less likely and which are still early in their planning. These includes Suwon Line 1 (tram), Dongtan Line 1 and Dongtan Line 2, Seongnam Line 1, Gwacheon-Wirye Line, Singuro Line, a bunch of small tram-like lines in Incheon, Suin-Bundang Line extension to Osan, as well as other extensions to the following lines: Line 3, Shinbundang Line, Line 6, Line 8, Everline, Incheon Line 1, Incheon Line 2, Wirye-Sinsa Line... And I'm probably forgetting some more.

There is a possibility that Line 9 and AREX will be merged (probably in 2027). It is already connected directly from Gimpo Airport Station, and in theory, it is already possible to pass through, except for train system problems. Recently, the relevant local governments have reached an agreement on the budget issue and are likely to start working soon.

Is this the alternative to GTX-D? Because GTX-D is planned to link ICN airport and Gangnam as Seoul's 2nd airport express service because at present there is no direct connection between the two considering Gangnam is the second business district of Seoul. Will it be possible for Line 9 to offer "through service" or "through running" with AREX? Through service or through running is commonly done in Tokyo. There are passing loops in Line 9 stations but problem is there are no separate platforms for the airport service.

Sinasan Line is also planned to extend from Yeouido to Seoul Station. Shinbundang Line is also planned to extend from Yongsan to Seoul Station then to Samsong, Goyang Province partly sharing tracks with GTX-A. The latest iteration of Western Metropolitan Express (GTX-D) will be an X-shaped line, with another branch going to ICN airport and passing through Gangnam with a stop at Samseong connected with GTX-A, C and Wirye-Sinsa line. Samseong is planned to become a massive transport hub below ground with multiple levels and platforms.

Another great video, I loved seeing Seoul get its fair share of recognition, and I will love to see what video you will come up with next! Now then…
8:15 nine days to go ❗️❗️❗️Whoop whoop.
Ahem. Last month it was announced that the station name for Choseongri will be Cheongsan instead.
8:25 Most likely impossible. The station is undergoing construction alright, if you can call installing some basic structures and stopping there while designing the rest of the station ‘undergoing construction’. Most sources predict a 2026 opening.
8:34 GTX-A might open in March. Also, Yongin station hasn’t quite finished its construction yet and won’t be open until June.
9:13 If my understanding is correct, Sinansan line will open its branch towards Wonsi(or int’l theme park?) on April 2025 as well. Why they don’t just go ahead and open it all the way to Seohwaseongnamyang is unknown to me. And to say that the section towards Hyangnam is undergoing construction is… well, maybe not 100% accurate. The railway is under construction, but it’s not for the Sinansan line, but rather the regional Seohae line. Extension to hyangnam will require a few more additions (such as extra rail at Hyangnam so that the train can turn and return to base), which isn’t even undergoing design.
11:17 some say that the current plan is to open by 2029. But more importantly, in recent months it was said (but I haven’t seen any big articles about it) that Indeogwon-Dongtan will NOT have the Seodongtan branch, and that instead line 1 will he extending to Dongtan.
    Now for some extra notes:
    1. You left out the Wirye line, which of course should not be included because it is a tram line. But it is the first commuter tram line in Seoul in OVER 60 YEARS should it open in 2025 as planned.
    2. I’ll be damned if Wirye-Sinsa opens by 2028, GTX-C by 2028, Seobu by 2029 and Pungyang station by 2026.
    3. Gyeongui-Jungang line also has Hyangdong (near where Changneung will be) planned as an infill. Idk when they will even start constructing that one though.
Also planned are Hoecheonjungang on line 1 (between Deogye and Deokjeong) and Punggi between Onyangoncheon and Baebang.
That is all. Great video once again!

11:14 The Dongtan Indeokwon Line (Indeokwon-Dongtan, Seodongtan-Dongtan) Seodongtan section will open simultaneously with the Dongtan Indeokwon Line as it is finally confirmed that the section will open as Line 1 on October 12, 2023

Taiwan still orders and operates Hyundai Rotem's new train even after the 2020s, and the linear construction of their railway tracks is also left to the outside nation (mainly Japanese companies), and the slow speed of the construction itself is incomparable to that of the Korean railway. Quality is similar, some say that the Seoul Metro is overwhelmingly better because you can experience the quality of the Tokyo Metro while paying less than half the price of the Tokyo metro.
But there’s no way that any metro system can become extensive as the greater Tokyo area railway before 2050.
But if any metro system were to become as extensive Tokyo, and surpass it, Seoul would definitely, surely, without a doubt, be the first one to do so.
