I agree with you John somewhat BUT both Lucy and Carol are great in separate ways. Lucy was not funny in person but give her a script and she was a comic actress GENIUS!! Carol was and still is a great great comic so it is like discussing apples and oranges. Carol is such a sweet down to earth celebrity. Just adore her.
I can hear Vivian Vance talking about Lucy in a interview like this, I can guarantee that she would have been censored!! Not just honest about it was to work with Lucy, but censored!!
you gotta feel sorry for lucy. without desi (and with the sychophantic gary morton) lucy fell prey to writers who concocted more and more unrealistic (and unfunny) scripts so that to believe it at all, you'd have to imagine that lucy went from being kooky to being psychotic. one example will illustrate: when she's about to be hauled off to jail for mistakenly being taken for a pro shoplifter, she wants to use her one call to call and cancel her hairdresser appt. not likely, no nowhere.)
Carol Burnett deserves to be known as the best female comedian, not Lucille Ball; she is much more diverse, takes many more chances, and frankly, is just funnier. Also, she treated her costars a lot kinder than Lucy did....
