    I am always watching videos on iPhone tricks. (I'm a senior so I have to keep watching the same ones over and over. )
    I love your calm, unrushed style!
    And, boy, you showed me a good thing or two!

      Thanks so much. The iPhone has a whole bag of tricks I rarely get in to. That's why I made this video. So glad you found it useful.

    Wow, Rich! Far too much in this video for my poor old brain to take in! However, I realize that every part of this presentation depends on videos you must already have made, so I’m not feeling too overwhelmed. The big message I took from this is: “ You have have nothing to lose”. Back in the old days, this simply wouldn’t have been true - it was so easy then to delete a whole day’s work with one wrong push of a button, or even a whole application. But technology has advanced so much that we just don’t have worry about this anymore. You have encouraged me to “ play” with my iPhone and see what magic it’s hiding and waiting for me to find. Thank you, and hugs to Scout.

    • @RichBowlin
      @RichBowlin  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Marilyn! You got my main point - there's nothing to lose! The iPhone is a Swiss Army knife and can do a thousand things. But knowing that is a bit overwhelming. Even so, it's worth fiddling around to see if something works for you. Thanks for watching!

    Here is another great tip.
    You go to a doctor, you get an appointment card
    Take a picture
    Open the picture in photos
    Click the box icon in the lower left
    That will hi-light all text including handwriting
    Click on the hilighed text
    Select more
    Then the top option
    Which will let you save all the info as an appointment in your calendar
    All you gotta do is make a name for the appointment

    Hey there Rich. Great job my friend. Very valuable videos. My wife who is over 81 and has limited hearing, can follow you well and has learned a lot from your videos. Even at 75 some of the tutorials are difficult to keep up with. Your style and timing is excellent and I keep learning new things from you. While I knew about the 5 ways, I didn't know how to set up the short cuts for them. Excellent clear explanation and easy to follow. You are helping so many people but you should have many more subscribers. Hope the rest of the seniors find your invaluable channel. Keep up the great work. You know how to explain it so well.

When I first started working, I didn’t have a smart phone and burned through sooo many batteries. Enter the smart phone’s flashlight, what a relief. One of my 20 something coworkers placed the flashlight icon on the Home Screen for me. I have no idea how they did that, but it is a very convenient place for your flashlight!

    Hey Rich, Thank you for the tips on short cuts as I wasn't sure how to set it up. Here's a flashlight tip I have used several times: when both hands are occupied but I need some light, I say "Hey Siri, turn on flashlight" and your work is illuminated. Also I created a folder on my home screen labeled "Extras" for things like compass, tips, vido memos, FaceTime, QR Code, Measure, HP Smart, Find My & magnifier. As you noted, most of these can be set up in your control center. I also use the file app to access documents that are on my computer when I am away from my computer. Thanks again for an informative video.😎

    Thanks Rich I’m not quite classed as a‘Senior’ yet being 58 years young, but I am a real technophobe!
    I came across your channel quite by accident. I was asking Google to try & help me use the phone callender app. By doing this I have found your channel & I’m sure that I’m going to enjoy it & hopefully learn something new from it too. Mind you learning something ‘new’ shouldn’t be hard because I am really hopeless Ha Ha.
    I’ll let you know how I get on. Oh and by the way I still find it amazing that I can communicate with people from all over the World. I started playing a game a few years ago (to try & improve my memory) as well as loving the game I have also made 40 new friends from all over the World. I don’t know who’s more amazed me or my Children.
    Just to let anyone else who is reading this…… the only private information we know about each other is our names & countries. We are all very much aware of the safety issues.
    Sorry I’ve gone right off track…….

    Question? You actually answered a question that I’ve been attempting to solve for a year with this video. How to create more “multiple app widgets” instead of only the top 4 shortcuts that I created.
    My question, all of these widgets that contain apps that relate to each other the main box each have the word “Shortcuts “ under them. I want to change each of those to specify the theme of each widget. Like personal phone numbers or Dr phone numbers.
    Do you know if that can be done?

    Rich, I’m always impressed by how neat your FILES app is. Much as I return to organize mine, it defeats me. I still have a ways to go! I like and use the tips on Shortcuts. Thanks for showing shortcut creation so simply, yet powerfully.

      Hi Linda! I do keep a pretty minimalist approach to my file structure. Over the years, I've found I kept track of lot of stuff I didn't really need. So I just threw that stuff out. It was sort of painful at first. Then I remembered my parents grew up and survived without keeping track of every pice of paper that came into our home. Now, I try to identify the important stuff and forget the rest. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Rich, thanks for all the videos! I’m wondering what model iPhone and Ipad you use. I’m due for upgrading, my phone is 6+ and iPad 1st gen but a 12.9. 😂. They’re both doing great but pretty dated…any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

      Hi Sue! I have a bunch of iPads I use for these videos. If you like the big iPad, then you can just replace it with a newer version of the same size. Me? I tend to use my 11" iPad Air gen 6. I also use my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9. I even like the new base iPad 10th gen. Maybe you can go to an Apple Store or Best Buy and just see what you like best. I have the iPhone 14 pro and love it. I also have the iPhone 14 Plus and love it too! Whew! That's too many Apple products!

    I love your organized phone and files. I just realized I could remove apps from my home screens and they’d still be in the App Library. (By long pressing the app and actually given that option).
    I’m wondering why I no longer have an alarm icon up by my battery/signal area. I know to swipe down to see the alarm set but if you don’t remember you have an alarm you won’t swipe down to look at it. I tried making a widget for the alarm but I wasn’t given the choice to add alarm just to add the different
    clocks I have.
    I’d much rather have the little alarm icon back up on the top right battery/signal area. It was nice to see it as a way to verify you set an alarm. Can you help?

    How can I use Voice Recording to record my conversation either incoming or outgoing calls ?

    • @RichBowlin
      @RichBowlin  ปีที่แล้ว

      Voice recordings is not for phone calls. I've not looked into it, but there may be applications on the App Store that allow you to do this. But in many locations, recording a voice call without the permission of the other person is illegal. Hope this helps!

      Wow! Thanks. Mostly I just try not to cram 20 tips in one video and also to talk a little slower so people can follow along. My 93 yr old mom reminds me not to talk too fast!

    • @deawallace3584
      @deawallace3584 ปีที่แล้ว

      Idea for a video----teach how to choose the speed and slow down the fast talkers or those with unfamiliar accents. It helps when taking notes, or when, like me, you do not think as fast as they talk.
      Then, I speed up videos that are teaching visually like painting, quilting, and the boring parts of a police chase or prepping furniture before refinishing. Cheap bluetooth speakers are also great for seniors when the videos cannot be turned up loud enough, such as on my ipad.

    • @RichBowlin
      @RichBowlin  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Roger! It's really personal preference. I use Pages for long form writing - not really notes. I use Notes for detailed stuff I need to remember. And I store documents I may not look at regularly but still need in the Files app. Hope this helps!

    I'm 78, I'm trying to teach myself how to speak and understand the German language. I find the voice memos on my iPhone invaluable in this pursuit. I record tracts of german narrative from you tube, transfer recordings on to the voice memos filing system, transcribe the narrative and its english translation into apple notes and don my 'bone phone' (I'm not keen on the apple AirPods) and then head for my daily walking exercise. As I walk I repeatedly listen to tracts of german narrative and thereby assimilate german pronunciation, vocabulary etc. . . . I find the combination of apple notes, voice memos and my 'bone phones to be a very useful combination!

    Hey Rich, great video. I think it might have been better (although not necessarily easier or simpler), to create a quick "list" of short cuts that can be called upon and displayed, then you can just pick from the list the tool you need. Of course making the list is more complicated at the outset and more difficult to teach oldies to create. However, once one person has managed it they can simply 'share' the shortcut with others, which take the pain out of re-creating the shortcut. So someone might create the quick list for their mother or father and then you can show them how to easily share it with their friends!

  • @richardjones9007

    Creating and organizing shortcuts as you demonstrate seems more cumbersome than simply dragging the various apps into a folder on your screen labeled utilities or Clever iPhone Tools. I can accomplish in 30 seconds what it took you several minutes and multiple steps to do.
