Vibrato is super tricky and elusive to many! One of the main problems with trying to figure out how to get the 'ideal' singing vibrato is that there is a mentality that comes with that quest that suggests we need to MAKE it happen. Really, we need to learn to LET it happen (like so many other things in great singing). In this video, I lay the groundwork for you to discover the vibrato you were meant to have!

Great video, as always. It's mind-boggling how much information we get for free these days!
Vibrato is the first thing ever that i've learned. Don't remember how or why, but it always felt natural for me. My advice is this:
Don't force it, let it come naturally, for some it might take more time to develop.
DO NOT try to produce it by chopping up your voice (rapidly constraining the airflow, sounds awful and is extremely inefficient)
The tone produced with vibrato should be always constant, with even and the same volume.
It should be produced by changing the pitch just slightly (let's say one semi-tone higher or lower) and then switching between those two tones in a wavy manner. You can do it mroe slowly at first, and then kinda work with it and try to figure out what feels most comfortable.

I have been singing for 40 years and coaching for 20. You cannot force from the throat and it's a natural outcome of good support...l agree with you on much of this. I find it to be THE hardest thing to teach. I was born with a natural vibrato, blessed l should say, so it's even harder for me to try to teach how. I am sending this to my students who are straight toning everything..

I have been studying singing for... 8 years? (Not really applied the whole time, mainly in the beggining) Using mainly youtube videos, and I can tell two things from your videos:
    - Many things I have learned from joining the knowledge from mutiple sources, are really well explained as a whole in your channel.
    - Since I realize that, I can also tell that the things I haven't learn are explained in a really complete way, that makes me without that NEED to seek many and many sources for each small thing.
    tldr; Great job!

I developed this type of vibrato years ago and can't unlearn it. If I'm not wrong it should be called a "laryngeal" vibrato. Which isn't natural and I don't know how to get that. When you pay attention to the big voices' throats (like Mariah, Whitney, Aretha, etc.), they don't move their larynxes as we do. At this point, I'm somewhat convinced it's either you have it or you don't type of a phenomenon. There have been times I felt it happen naturally but it keeps reverting back to the artificial one. Sounds almost as good but it doesn't feel good to know that I could be better lol

I think I'm doing something wrong, when I use vibrato it sounds almost like if I was whispering and I run out of air fast, any tips for that?

Hey, Chris. Maybe you should make a video about vibrato aesthetics, considering how many different styles of vibrato there are and which should be used for which genre :)

Might do a whole course on vibrato... seems to be a hot topic!

Really good video! In order for me to engage those throat muscles or voicebox (don't know the correct terms) i have to move my jaw a little. Like when I do the vibrato I have to shake my jaw a little bit, and I have to think about my jaw to start the vibrato, but the vibrato still mainly comes from my throat. Is this due to a biological factor, I do have a pretty small male jaw, or am I just doing it all the wrong way?

I’m due to do another vibrato video. I’m gonna answer some of these on a new video!

Having taken to exercise my voice only lately, I find myself unable to make the initial ghost wobble properly. I can’t get it to wobble as much or as fast, and I have to be careful not to wobble with my diaphragm. Doesn’t that first exercise require a good deal of what Kerri Ho calls “agility” in the first place?

what's first, the chicken or the egg? Loosen up... become a cartoon... stop thinking about the sounds you are making as singing and just treat it as NOISE. Then see what happens :)

I can't even mimic the ghost. How do you guys do it? like, i can switch between the halfnotes slowly but then when it the frequency becomes faster it just smoothens into a note and there's no vibrato
