I would think to make these kinds of movies today we would need actors like Loretta Young and all the other members of the cast. This will never happen again. They could never be replaced with what is in Hollywood nowadays.
I agree. There was a whole system behind this kind of film. Stars, producers, dancing teachers, singing lessons, elocution. All that work to make someone with "It" a movie star! The studio system had its flaws, but the movies will never be the same.
Doctors not only smoked but even endorsed various cigarette brands. Internet example: "Lucky Strike: The first brand to use a physician in its advertisements, claiming that 20,679 physicians said Lucky Strikes were less irritating." Cigarettes have actually been prescribed to patients from the 30s through the 50s.
@robertbruner7429 Thanks for that interesting information 😊 I'm shocked that cigarettes were subscribed to patients, never heard of that ! Thank god we now have the truth behind many dangerous bad habits
I worked at The Institute of Living in Hartford Ct back in mid 60s. Everybody who worked and resided there then smoked...from custodians to the shrinks and patients. There were lighters mounted on the walls. Almost funny. Doubt its like that now though.
Plot- After her second miscarriage, Paula Rogers (Loretta Young) learns she is sterile. On the way to a reception for her professor husband, John (Kent Smith), a distraught Paula accidentally hits an orphan (Tommy Rettig) with her car. Thinking Paula is drunk, farmer Raymond Bascom (Will Wright) takes the boy to the hospital. Unwilling to confess her role in the hit-and-run for fear of derailing John's career, Paula volunteers at the hospital and helps Davey recover without admitting her guilt.
Loretta Young..such beauty. I still cant believe she was seduced by Rhett Butler lol with resultant daughter who couldnt be acknowledged publicly because Loretta was a Catholic sinner. Thank God times have changed.

It wasn't because she was Catholic, it was because it would have ruined her career.
