As a kid I learned how the pieces move but I never thought to 'study' chess and actually try to improve at the game, so, here we are at 55 years old (and after watching The Queens Gambit :-) ) and I've learnt more in a couple of days than I have done in all my years of life! It shows the quality of the highest levels of chess. It's not just their insane calcualational skills (being able to effortlessly see many combinations ahead), but also their positional knowledge is on a different level
yes explanation- what's his father's title? carlsen right? and in one of his lessons he made on his own app he mentioned he have had beaten his father and sister when he was 10. So yes magnus had beaten carlsen.

This looks like a Karpov game: constantly increasing the pressure without actually taking anything and wait for the opponent to make a move that will open the door to a particular strategy. It's all about positional pressure that leads to an end game with very little (if none) chance for the opponent to win. I love these games!
It seems like that describes most of Magnus's games. Not a lot of fireworks, just deeply understanding the position and slowly but surely outplaying the opponent.
Andrew Court its basic ladder checkmate , when you force the king one rank/file towards the edge of the board.. that check was to force the king either up a file so the rook mates or down a file so that the ladder could continue ..
14:28 after Rd4 interfering with the rook's defence of the queen, why can't black play Qxd4, defending the rook, and attacking the queen? If exd4 then Rxh6 and black is up a rook. Edit: looks like Qg5+ intermezzo allows exd4 on the next move, winning for white.

That's the observation you make when you say that all his moves work together perfectly, seamlessly pushing forth the attack, building advantages, little by little, until he wins, not by brute force, but by Napoleonic style outmaneuvering, both tactical, locally, and strategic, when you consider how one moves enables another one way into the future. According to Stockfish 12+ Magnus had Average centipawn loss of 8. Let that register. Just take that in. No mistakes, no inaccuracies, no blunders. Aronian had 24, with a mere 5 inaccuracies, no outright mistakes or blunders. By all accounts Aronian had a super GM perfromance. But Magnus played this like Stockfish would have. And as anyone who's played a top engine knows, you don't have to make a mistake to lose against the computer. It's just by sheer strategic calculating power that the computer slowly takes you apart, just as Magnus did here. The level of his performance is unprecedented. He is in a league of his own. Thank you Levy. I watched this video and tried using some of the concepts in my blitz games. I had a fool trashtalking me as he locked in his light square bishop. I rerouted a knight, traded off his most active piece and forced a resignation. It wasn't super high level but it was enough for me. Thanks again!!

Watching Levon with the Magnus, it was suddenly so clear. The Magnus would never stop. It would never leave him alone. It would never give up, never surrender, or get weak and knock over the king, or say it was too busy to beat him easily. It would always be there. And it would die to beat him. Of all the would-be champions who came and went over the years, this thing, this Magnus was the only one that measured up. In an AI world, it was the most machine-like person.

The thing with carslen is that he just winds and you don't know where it came from. No big sacrifices, just perfect moves
