- Stuart Skinner allowed four goals on 21 shots in Game 3, and the Oilers lost to the Stars and now trail 2-1 in their series. TSN Hockey analyst Martin Biron joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss what he saw from Skinner throughout the game, whose return made a bigger impact between Roope Hintz and Adam Henrique, and what adjustments the Oilers need to make before Game 4.

Oilers beat themselves every time. If they can just win some face offs and win a second period, they can be Stanley cup champs. Their 2 goal lead submissions have become so procedural, you’d swear they rehearse it in practice.
It interesting everyone is talking about Edmonton losing like Dallas didn’t beat ‘em. What happened isn’t just your goalie or one d player. You got out worked for two periods… team got worked hard in game 3. Give credit to dallas
Don’t disagree but if we had a goalie that was even close to Ottinger we’re prob winning or going to OT at least. Goal one he’s sitting on the goal line slow to react no anticipation. Goal 2 he has 3 seconds to cover a rebound right in front of him and he can’t. Goal 4 was just ugly no excuse for that one, seal the dang post. Sure Dallas played well but with a useable goalie we still at least push it to OT no doubt in my mind.

How many teams have win a cup with a below average goalie (without a great goalie?)

I agrée the oilers just got out worked after the 1st. But weak goals and weak defensive plays don’t help. They can’t beat anyone when they quit skating.
How about demoting Skinner to #3 and roll with Pickard and Campbell

@@WildMan576 That's an outdated view. Knoblauch improved their team defense dramatically this year. 5th in the league while he was coaching in the reg season. They have the 9th ranked defense in these playoffs. If Skinner wasn't .885 then they could be rank 5 or 6 pretty easily.
Skinner is 21st out of 26 goalies in these playoffs in GSAx. They need to stop using him. Pickard and possibly Campbell are better choices right now.

No one can just admit stars are good. They are a top team in so many categories yet the story night after night is what the other team did wrong and how they should be better , regular season this regular season that. Stars are a good team. Time to match them or go home
They are getting plenty of credit but the oilers beat themselves at the end of the day. If the oilers keep playing the way they did in the first period, they win the game

@erikholden8809 no Dallas did what Dallas does. They have done this all year, it was never in Edmontons court to decide this series. This is Dallas's series to lose, get over the fact the Oilers aren't at that level, they are good but the Stars are showing their deficiencies nightly. Game 4 will be even worse, game 4 on the road is generally when Dallas demoralizes the team and runs away with the game and series

I said it before many times Skinner and Nurse are not the players you want on the team to win the Stanley cup, especially Nurse at 9.25M.

Nothing gets older than media and fans pretending Stuart Skinner is an elite goalie..tonight was a normal game from Skinner..not bad but not great..this is WHO HE IS!..Oilers need to play elite defense to win with an average #1 goalie...but I know these people will get paid to act disappointed in Skinner for not playing like an elite goalie...why does Skinner have to "match" elite Oettinger when elite McDavid can't match Jason Robertson..what TERRIBLE takes by TSN tonight.
Another example of how the Canadian media disrespects southern market teams. The Stars have been to the conference finals 3 times in the past 5 seasons and have a coach who has been 4 or 5 out of the last 6 years. Dallas fans have known this was coming with our 2017 draft class getting into their prime with veteran leadership and fresh youthful talent. Jim Nill is a heck of a GM. If anyone actually watched any Stars hockey north of the border, they should have known that the Stars were tied for most comeback wins (with the Avs). 6 more wins!!!
Side note: Not one person in the media has talked about Draisaitl..... Its like hes never played on this team.
Interesting to note, the Oilers have also been to the conf finals 2 out of the last 3 years. And last year were really the only team to give the inevitable SC Champs a run. And that's not my opinion, that was stated by a couple of Knights players last year.
Oilers inability to step on the enemy's throat when they're on the mat is a chronic flaw.
Started the 2nd period like the game was already over.
And Skinner's frantic, spasmatic play sure doesn't help.

Biron's claim about the Oilers' not-so-good PP is interesting, and there's no doubt that not scoring a PP goal hurt the Oilers in game 2 when they had managed to score just 1 goal in total. Game 3 featured 3 Oiler goals but so many defensive miscues particularly in the span of just over 3:30 in the 2nd period that would turn a 2-0 Oiler lead into a 3-2 deficit. From then on the Oilers never led.
This series for the Oilers is not over yet but lose their Wednesday Mountain Time game, and I see a win by the Dallas Stars of game 5 or 6 as more likely as an Oiler comeback from a 3-1 series deficit.

Put Pickard in net. Skinner has proven he can't maintain consistency when starting every game. Plus, with Pickard in net, the Oilers will be forced to play responsible defense.

Exactly right I’ve said before skinner let’s in bad goals and than after game interviews always says it happens. Again he cost the rest of the team a chance to win the game . This has happened to many times he let his team down again,it’s sad to say but he truly has shown himself that he doesn’t have what it takes to be a no one goalie in the nhl and never will be , His most famous repetitive quote after a loss where he lets in cheap goals is always the same A well it happens .this tells you a lot about the guy . He continually costs his team games where they still had a chance to win but lose because of his inconsistent solid play in the net.look at the three other playoff team goaltenders and theirs consistency says it all .without a doubt if the oilers don’t reach to the end of winning the the Stanley cup this year it will be no 1 reason again inconsistent and a times poor goaltending by skinner,he is not a number one goaltender,is 2 at times a number 3 . Skinner by his attitude for the most part seem to think if he periodically lets in 1 or2 easy ant stoppable goals the team just needs to just like that go score more goals to replace his poor play . Skinner attitude is always the same after the fact by always saying it happens, well it’s happening to often . Edmonton still don’t have a no 1 goalie which you need to go far in the playoffs. They need to to put Picard next game as he is at least more consistent. I am a diehard Edmonton fan but without great goaltending your up the creek

The adjustment they need to make is learn how to keep playing after getting leads lol. It'll be 2 years in a row where they can't keep leads!
The only reason they played well in the 1st is probably because they played the hell out of their top line that gets gassed in the 2nd and 3rd.

On both goals you blame Skinner for, Darnell Nurse was flailing around like a dying fish. That guy makes over $9 million a year, and he can't take a man? Most defencemen would attack the guy with the puck once he was moved to the outside like that, but Nurse tries to block a pass to a guy who is already covered. He is -12, which is the worst of all players these playoffs. In fact, Oilers have 4 of the worst plus/minus players. 3 of them are defencemen. Sit Nurse and Desharnais, and replace them with Broberg and Stecher. They might not be a lot better, but they certainly can't be worse.

The refs and the commentators are all Coilers fans as expected theyre preparing to gift them another Number 1 pick after McDavid and Crysatl leaves.

Last game the shots were 16-4 Edmonton in the 1st and this game hit were 45-22 Edmonton, by game 6 or 7 Dallas will be tired
