ABOUT CARPOOL:
Carpool is an online show hosted by Robert Llewellyn (Red Dwarf, Scrapheap Challenge, Fully Charged), who gives a wide variety of passengers a lift in a hybrid or electric car and they talk. Good thing the UK gouvt apologised for Turing treatement: "But even more than that, Alan deserves recognition for his contribution to humankind. For those of us born after 1945, into a Europe which is united, democratic and at peace, it is hard to imagine that our continent was once the theatre of mankind’s darkest hour. [...] So on behalf of the British government, and all those who live freely thanks to Alan’s work I am very proud to say: we’re sorry, you deserved so much better."
It is an eternal shame of Britain - along with the sellout of Poland and the extraordinary price all the free Poles paid for Churchill's betrayal. Churchill knew Turing was no risk - he knew the extraordinary things Turing developed to save Briyson
What a delightful interview, and a fascinating piece of history.
Really enjoyed this video, very fascinating and a lovely guest too.
Thanks :)
Alan Turing is my hero. His story is amazing and sad. I encourage folks to read about him (and Bletchley Park)... even if it's just scanning the Wiki page.
About the Apple logo, Steve Jobs was asked whether it had anything to do with the death of Turing and he said no, but he didnt mind people thinking that it did or words to that effect.
Steve Jobs said they hadn't known Turing's story but would have loved to have had that idea if they had. But there was no major cleverness or morality about the name.
Another great video!
Excellent :) Informative and entertaining, as usual :)
Im fascinated by Bletchley Park - fascinating to hear so much about Turing. I have an MSc in Computing, but I dont think I could ever work with codes like that - my talents lie in different areas. :)
There is a movie coming out I believe this year about the code breakers and Mr. Touring is the focus. I don't think it delves into how horrendously he was treated after the war for being gay but I think it will be a great movie.
I guess we all need to get those glasses they have!
Yep. That's the one.
@NickDvB Yes, especially the old one that had the colors of the rainbow.
Been racking my brain watching this as to where I've seen Sue before, suddenly occured to me - did she used to lecture at South Bank university?
Yes I did! I taught at LSBU for many years
@@SueBlack Wow.. Thanks for the reply. I can't believe I have been waiting 12 years for it 🤣🤣
@@toStringy sorry about that 🤪 I just happened to look at the video and the comments. Did you study at LSBU?
@@SueBlack I did, but under Fintan Culwin/Dave Protheroe. I just remember seeing your name on a few things back then!
@blenderpanzi The striped Apple logo came out a few years before the "rainbow pride" flag. It was more to show it was a color computer and to appeal to a younger market. There's also no real evidence that it had anything to do with Turing, unfortunately, since I'd like it to be true.
It came out many years before the pride flag. It was in use in the 90s.
@jacksawild
Good show chaps!
i'm a comp sci major and people have noticed this about me too... why do comp sci people have such weird laughs?
